April Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp - week 1

BIWI · 11/04/2021 20:54

Welcome everyone!

Here, as ever, is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness created and lovingly managed by the wonderful @AthelstaneTheUnready

Hopefully you should find that you're already on the spreadsheet - but if not, just add your name to the bottom of the list. Don't try to insert it in the right alphabetical place - Athelstane will do that for you. And don't touch the blue cells or try to enter any other data or comments!

For those that are new, each week I'll start a new chat thread, on Monday, and we'll start off with recording our weight.

However

You don't have to use your weight to measure your progress - and you don't have to be on the spreadsheet if you don't want to be. Instead, take your measurements each week (bust/upper arms/waist/hips/thighs), or find an item of clothing that's just too tight/small right now, and keep trying it on each week.

The rules of Bootcamp are on the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet - but here's a quick summary of the rules for the first two weeks:

  1. Eat three meals a day
  2. Avoid processed foods
  3. Eat lots of fat
  4. Make sure you're eating vegetables and salad with your food
  5. Be careful about dairy, apart from butter which is unlimited
  6. You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water a day
  7. No alcohol
  8. No fruit
  9. No nuts/seeds
10. No sugar/artificial sweeteners

Make sure you have a really good read of the spreadsheet for the full detail of the rules. Also, check out the tabs at the bottom - there's a huge amount of information that will really help you, especially if you're new to low carbing/Bootcamp.

There's also a thread here of FAQs which should be helpful.

Some thread etiquette

The thread will move really quickly - especially at the beginning.

But please take the time to read everyone's posts, rather than just plopping on with your own comments/thoughts/questions. It's very frustrating when someone comes on to the thread to ask a question that's been posed and answered already!

Don't lurk!

I know that not everyone is confident about posting - and also that there are a lot of posters who are regular Bootcampers, and who know other Bootcampers. Please don't think this is a cliquey thread. It couldn't be further from the truth!

Everyone's views and experiences are welcome and valid, so jump in and post.

Any questions, please just post. Or PM me. There's always someone here who can help - and if I or they can't, then we can always find someone who can!

Above all, very good luck to everyone.

I very much hope that by the time we come to the end of these ten weeks, that we really are (as a country) completely ready to leave Lockdown well behind.

Wishing everyone all the luck Flowers

Welcome everyone.

I've been fluctuating between 11'5 and 11'8 for like.... months, and I think being fed up about lack of progress has resulted in some carb creep since last bootcamp . Only in terms of some peanuts etc, I haven't had a cheat, even at Easter! So think I need to re-summon my energies and focus and feel more positive about it. I'm not going off plan, this way of eating works for me even if it's really slow going. . My goal by the end of boot camp is to be under 11 stone comfortably. I'm getting married at the end of July so would love to feel good about myself then! My overall goal is 10'7 (I'm 5'5 but broadly built!) but I'm not sure about that being possible this boot camp.

Today - most of the day just nibbling on Gouda hastily on the morning and a few creamy coffees as I was out of the house and toddler wrangling all day, dinner was tikka soya strips, lots of asparagus, celeriac with cheese and full fat Mayo.

colouringindoors · 12/04/2021 22:03

Craving chocolate now 😩

colouringindoors · 12/04/2021 22:04

What can I do with pork chops tomorrow?!

Ninkanink · 12/04/2021 22:07

You just have to push through it - you will go through withdrawals. Best not even think or especially talk about it or you will reinforce it. Distract yourself instead.

Have some cheese, a few olives, or something else low carb. Then make yourself a cup of tea or another hot drink, and go to bed.

Ninkanink · 12/04/2021 22:09

Pork chops can be fried or roasted. FLGV with lots of butter and salt on the side. And when we say FL we really mean it.

Ninkanink · 12/04/2021 22:10

(FLGV = fuckload of green or good veg)

You could make a creamy sauce for your pork chops. But I prefer to have creamy coffees so I only make creamy sauces once in a while, maybe once a week.

colouringindoors · 12/04/2021 22:12

Fried with lots of butter and salt sounds tasty - thank you!

Might need to buy a bit more green veg to get my FL!

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 12/04/2021 22:17

@VeryLittleOwl

Your wish is my command, *@BIWI*

These are photos I took during the October 2020 boot camp - 14lbs lost and nearly all of it came off my middle.

Bloody hell @VeryLittleOwl Shock

That is amazing, congratulations on beating the shorts and well done!!!

Doilooklikeatourist · 12/04/2021 22:21

@colouringindoors , are they the lovely fatty spareribs or shoulder chops ? in which case I’d suggest braising and making a pulled pork type chop
Or if loin chops try frying with olive oil and butter , and making a creamy mushroom sauce ( St Delia has a good recipe , just leave out the flour )
In both cases , serve with FLGV
A tip I use , is always have freshly ground black pepper and sea salt crystals on , well everything savoury
Went shopping in actual shops !
Need to get out of the jeans and jumper combo

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 12/04/2021 22:39

It’s so nice to hear everyone’s meals and enthusiasm, feel like I’ve come home Grin

Couldn’t do a prep shop yesterday after all, and working today so breakfast and lunch were a bit sketchy... chorizo, cheese and pilchards Blush

Mushroom stir fry with bacon tonight, fried in butter with extra FLGV.

Always takes me ages to get going with enough water, about 1.5ltrs today so not too bad.

Reading all your lovely meals and writing a shopping list... on an A4 sheet Grin

Angliski · 12/04/2021 22:41

Boiled eggs and ham for breakfast
Salad with curd cheese and lamb sausages
Salmon and flgv with oily nutritional yeast dressing yum

Already feeling less carb cravings :)

MrsKoala · 12/04/2021 22:55

@colouringindoors

What can I do with pork chops tomorrow?!
Just reading the good granny cookbook by Jane Fearnley-whittingstall and she has a recipe for pork chops Auberge saint Pierre which I may try tomorrow with mash celeriac & leeks and flgv roasted in olive oil, s&p and fresh Rosemary.

In Wales here. And very jealous Grin

@BIWI @StuntNun @AthelstaneTheUnready and all you organisers and advisers thank you as ever for this wonderful community.

OneFootintheRave · 12/04/2021 23:22

Placemarking as the watch button does not work.

Doilooklikeatourist · 12/04/2021 23:23

Yes @OnceUponAMidnightBeery in Wales too ( Carmarthen )
Even the multi storey car park was open
Can’t get coffee and cake though ( probably just as well )

colouringindoors · 12/04/2021 23:40

Thanks Doilooklikeatourist and MrsKoala much appreciated!

Wow!!! Thank you I thought we were still trapped 😂 Will be heading out ASAP, just to look and goggle at the crowds Grin

Waving to fellow Welshie - any more of us on here??

I’m soooo close to the border, everyone is using the backroads to try and get to the pubs unnoticed 😂 the b-roads have more gridlocks than the M25 🤣

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 12/04/2021 23:47

Ooops. I added so much butter the stir fry turned into a slowly wilted in butter sauce affair Blush

Was planning to add the leftovers into an omelette for tomorrow’s lunch, just found DH ate all the eggs. He did this last time too.

Any idea of the carb count for a medium sized husband? and any good recipes?

LyndaSnellMBE · 13/04/2021 02:44

Thank you for adding me to the spreadsheet @AthelstaneTheUnready. I’m v happy to be joining you all. I’ve been low-carbing for a few years but am easily tempted back to the dark side, so it feels good to be accountable. Dinner tonight was large prawns sautéed in butter and garlic served with chopped raw spinach and avocado. So good.

MrsOmelette · 13/04/2021 05:54

@MrsKoala that recipe book sounds intriguing, I may have to treat myself!

Morning everyone, hope your second day all goes swimmingly.
Today’s food...only two meals as not new:
L - scrambled egg & spinach
D - cold chicken, homemade coleslaw (just discovered how amazing - and cheap - homemade mayonnaise is), courgette chips & kashke bedemjan. I left out the walnuts but looking forward to having them in it in a couple of weeks.
2 litres of sparkling water & copious cups of tea with unsweetened soya milk.

50FootWave · 13/04/2021 05:57

Morning everyone. Sounds like everyone had a good start yesterday.

Logging food for the day, then off for a run.

B: cheese & ham omelette
L: chicken stir fry, FLGV
D: raspberries & cream

2l water

Happy Tuesday!

@AthelstaneTheUnready

NEW LINK ALERT! NEW LINK ALERT

USE THIS LINK TO GET ONTO THE SPREADSHEET:

SPREADSHEET

I've just made a new spreadsheet because someone added a 'comment' to the first one. And that leaves a tag with their real name on it.

It's absolutely fine to type information into the cells, add stuff, whatever. That's entirely anonymous.

But if you add a 'comment' to a cell, it WILL display your real name - see picture.

Selfishly quoting so I can find the spreadsheet more easily today Grin
nowlook · 13/04/2021 06:16

Raspberries, 50footWave? On day 2? Shock Grin

Did you start early?
No fruit allowed for the first two weeks of bootcamp. And you need to be drinking 3 ltrs of water (but not before your run...)

I'd be popping those leftovers in a Chicken Alfredo MidnightBeery! Minced DH is better for dog food (cats are too discerning).

Happy camping today all!

Ah crap, i managed to miss this thread!

Well, you've found it now! It's only day 2 of a 10-week bootcamp. Just jump in!
