April Leaving Lockdown Low Carb Bootcamp - week 1

BIWI · 11/04/2021 20:54

Welcome everyone!

Here, as ever, is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness created and lovingly managed by the wonderful @AthelstaneTheUnready

Hopefully you should find that you're already on the spreadsheet - but if not, just add your name to the bottom of the list. Don't try to insert it in the right alphabetical place - Athelstane will do that for you. And don't touch the blue cells or try to enter any other data or comments!

For those that are new, each week I'll start a new chat thread, on Monday, and we'll start off with recording our weight.

However

You don't have to use your weight to measure your progress - and you don't have to be on the spreadsheet if you don't want to be. Instead, take your measurements each week (bust/upper arms/waist/hips/thighs), or find an item of clothing that's just too tight/small right now, and keep trying it on each week.

The rules of Bootcamp are on the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet - but here's a quick summary of the rules for the first two weeks:

  1. Eat three meals a day
  2. Avoid processed foods
  3. Eat lots of fat
  4. Make sure you're eating vegetables and salad with your food
  5. Be careful about dairy, apart from butter which is unlimited
  6. You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water a day
  7. No alcohol
  8. No fruit
  9. No nuts/seeds
10. No sugar/artificial sweeteners

Make sure you have a really good read of the spreadsheet for the full detail of the rules. Also, check out the tabs at the bottom - there's a huge amount of information that will really help you, especially if you're new to low carbing/Bootcamp.

There's also a thread here of FAQs which should be helpful.

Some thread etiquette

The thread will move really quickly - especially at the beginning.

But please take the time to read everyone's posts, rather than just plopping on with your own comments/thoughts/questions. It's very frustrating when someone comes on to the thread to ask a question that's been posed and answered already!

Don't lurk!

I know that not everyone is confident about posting - and also that there are a lot of posters who are regular Bootcampers, and who know other Bootcampers. Please don't think this is a cliquey thread. It couldn't be further from the truth!

Everyone's views and experiences are welcome and valid, so jump in and post.

Any questions, please just post. Or PM me. There's always someone here who can help - and if I or they can't, then we can always find someone who can!

Above all, very good luck to everyone.

I very much hope that by the time we come to the end of these ten weeks, that we really are (as a country) completely ready to leave Lockdown well behind.

Wishing everyone all the luck Flowers

@nowlook - it wasn't that thread, it was the other one, about breastfeeding cookies. I may have been a tad exercised about it Blush Grin

Hi all, I'd love to join if my name could please be added to the spreadsheet (I tried but it won't let me edit the cell). This approach has worked really well for me in the past, but I've never stuck with it all the way to my goal weight, and I have been very badly behaved through lockdown and the hell on earth that was home schooling. Now I am even bigger than before, my heaviest ever. I really have to sort myself out now. And I have to stick to it this time. Good luck to everyone

nowlook · 12/04/2021 18:24

I never heard the like Grin
Can't imagine having to give up if those run out...

AthelstaneTheUnready · 12/04/2021 18:47

You're on, @mistywillow17!

gillyweed · 12/04/2021 18:54

I'm de-lurking (again!) To say hello! I've been on the last 2 bootcamps and weightloss has been painfully slow (9lbs), although if I include the Christmas weight I lost, put on, and lost again I think around 15lbs in 5 months...

I know I'm not strict enough, and too much carb creep is at play, I also think I may have been eating too much fat if this is possible?!

Having said all that, I think I'm on this for life, no bloat, no more snacking, no energy slump and delicious food to boot! Onwards and downwards.

Bestbees · 12/04/2021 19:00

There are so many of us here it is going to be hard to keep up!

I had lunch, then ended up eating a boiled egg and two big wedges of cheese at 5pm. Just focusing on allowed food and not worrying if it is too much as I know this will help in the sticker phase.

Glad to see you back @BIWI. Wouldn't be the same without your big stick herding us!

Looks very virtuous @HillsideView but aren't you going to be hungry? Make sur you eat plenty, it's key in the early stages. Might just be that I am greedy!

@gillyweed I guess it is possible to be eating too much fat, but more likely to be carb creep. If you list meals here then experts can offer comments.

Nearly first day over!

ListenLinda · 12/04/2021 19:16

Wow I forgot how fast this thread moves! Grin
I’m on 5 litres of water today. Me and the loo are very much reacquainted. Loved all my food today.
Snacked on a bit too much cheese today so will knock that on the head tomorrow. I need to up the fat a bit as I definately was ‘peckish’ this afternoon.
Feel nicely full after a tea of chicken thighs, salad with homemade coleslaw. I really do love this WOE.

Timetobuckup · 12/04/2021 19:22

@ListenLinda 5 litres ! That is impressive. I have one more pint to go and I will have managed 3.5 which I was pleased with. When I get back to work everyone is going to think I have toilet issues Grin

Pleased with my food today
Eggs and mushrooms for breakfast
Tuna salad for lunch
Pork steaks with mange tu and garlic mushrooms and leeks

No snacks which is my biggest issue around food so I am very happy about that.

Midlifemission · 12/04/2021 19:22

Hello everyone new and old. So exciting the buzz of a new Bootcamp with the promise of restrictions lifting at the end.
Can't believe we nearly had to cope without BIWI though that would not have been good at all!

This is Bootcamp 3 for me and I am 43lbs lighter than when I started. I am very close to target but terrified of veering far from Bootcamp so am here again for accountability.

My goals this time are - lose 4lbs and then start to try to maintain.
I feel like my food choices are a bit less ideal than when I started so am going to try to up the FLGV and water, along with trying some new recipes to keep things interesting. Also want to try harder to keep up with the threads though I know it will move fast at first !

Thanks to @BIWI @StuntNun @AthelstaneTheUnready @prettybird for the hard work and support.

Midlifemission · 12/04/2021 19:25

@VeryLittleOwl I never get tired of your photos, so impressive ! Everyone should take some photos and measurements really I wish I had taken more.
I spent all the time I was at my heaviest avoiding the camera.

Timetobuckup · 12/04/2021 19:34

@Midlifemission that is a fabulous amount to have lost, well done you!

Any tips for a newbie with 4 stone to lose ?

AthelstaneTheUnready · 12/04/2021 19:43

That's a good point about the threads moving fast actually!

If you post a question, or a NSV, or a worry, and nobody answers...

... shout it again. LOUDER.

Seriously. These threads are VERY good at not leaving anyone behind, but it can get a bit hectic the first week or two.

Rayna37 · 12/04/2021 19:44

Good first day!

Swam first thing then had a mid-morning breakfast at work which is the best way for me to fit intermittent fasting in. A leftover cold sausage and a hardboiled egg today.

Lunch was a can of tuna, in mayo, on salad- spinach, tomato, cucumber, olives. Greek yogurt for "pudding".

Dinner was a current favourite- halloumi, broccoli and Brussels roasted on tray with oil and harissa. A rare veggie meal!

Water Water Water!

Jellycatspyjamas · 12/04/2021 19:49

I’ve had a good day today, no breakfast because I’m used to low carb and don’t usually feel like it. Lunch was a homemade burger on SLC roll with cheese and a salad, dinner has been chicken curry with loads of broccoli and green beans.

Lots of water and fruit tea (pukka do a nice apple and cinnamon one), I’m trying a tea bag in fizzy water post dinner so will see how that tastes.

I don’t usually post my food but am going to try for accountability.

ListenLinda · 12/04/2021 19:51

@Timetobuckup i just refilled my bottle every time I went into the kitchen! I added a slice of lime & a slice of lemon and it honestly made it so much easier to drink!

cheeseisthebest · 12/04/2021 19:57

2 boiled eggs in butter for breakfast
2 creamy coffees
2 cups of tea
Courgette, leek and prawns in boursin for lunch
Steak with green beans and asparagus for tea with butter and homemade pesto.
Few slices of cheese and few crabsticks dipped in mayo.

All of the water and managed to resist the incredible looking dark chocolate brownies my daughters made. They smelt incredible!

ditavonteesed · 12/04/2021 19:58

Hi everyone. So pleased to be joining in again, I haven't stopped in between but Cathy Twat did make a visit last night at work.

I would like to get down 12lbs this boot camp which would take me into healthy Bmi for the first time since I had kids.

ouchmyfeet · 12/04/2021 19:58

Forgot how quickly the thread moves at first but I am all caught up now.

Good day at the zoo so lots of steps for me. Made a tuna Mayo sandwich with a SLC roll and had it with veggie sticks. Was hungry for
My tea this evening, which was aubergine parmigiana and FLGV. Not enough water yet but there's still time

ouchmyfeet · 12/04/2021 19:59

I managed two stone last bootcamp (my first). Would love to do the same again but I'd be happy with 1.5stone

cheeseisthebest · 12/04/2021 20:00

I would be happy to lose 8 or 9 lb this bootcamp. Get me into a healthy BMI.

BSky · 12/04/2021 20:01

Hello all,

Another one de-lurking. I followed the last Bootcamp and couldn’t keep up so promised myself I’d jump in on the first day this time. But this thread has moved super fast.....Shock Anyway I lost 14 lbs (on a good day) on last Bootcamp but realistically 12 lbs. Happy with that & feel soo much better for this WOE. Thanks so much to Biwi, StuntNun, AthelstaneTheUnready & prettybird for all your hard work and support. Also the comraderie of all on the last Bootcamp was really supportive and heart warming at times!

I need to weigh in tomorrow as had a few things of Cathy Twat’s menu over the weekend for OH’s birthday so suspect a few pounds to have crept on. Another one who can’t add to the spreadsheet so please could someone add my name - thank you 🙏☺️

Oneborneverydecade · 12/04/2021 20:08

In what may be a record even for me I've fallen off the wagon already and so tomorrow has become day 1.

L: cold roast chicken dipped in mayo plus 2 lc almond cheese muffins (picnic at farm park with DD)
S: 3 slices meatloaf
D: 2 sausages with boursin courgetti
Then it all went wrong as DH had made apple crumble, and my resolve, well, crumbled

Will do better tomorrow
After gaining about 3lb since the end of the last BC I now have 10lb to get to target (and a 70lb loss)

@Timetobuckup I'm in W Sussex too

MarchXX · 12/04/2021 20:11

Hi everyone,

I'm a bit late to the party (gardening day) and my stats are very simple; 32" waist - that's all I measure as scales are triggering.

During my five years low carb/keto I got down to (and maintained) 30" waist but over lockdown it has increased gradually. However, I was originally a size 24 so I'm not complaining Grin.

I had home made chicken liver pate with sliced peppers and cucumber for lunch.
For tea I had roast pork with mushrooms/courgettes fried in sesame oil.
Coffee with cream to drink plus licorice tea.

Hopefully, next Monday my waist measurement will be a bit less than 32".

Best of luck to everybody and thanks again @BIWI for starting this.

Moonswimmer · 12/04/2021 20:12

Just finished steak and salad (with lots of olive oil) for dinner, and am now trying to catch up on my water, probably meaning I will be up all night weeing... Really pleased with my first day!

Oneborneverydecade · 12/04/2021 20:12

@debka I've been the biggest loser on the spreadsheet for a while who's counting, not me and you've annihilated me. Well done (quietly seethes)
