The final weigh-in thread: March 2021 Low Carb Bootcamp

BIWI · 28/03/2021 23:52

Here's the spreadsheet

I think this has been a really fantastic Bootcamp. Lots of really great losses.

As well as that, though, like every Bootcamp I'm always amazed and often humbled by how much we get to know people. We may all be here because we're trying to lose weight, but there's so much more going on in people's lives.

Tomorrow is the final weigh-in, but I hope very much that people will continue to check in and update us all on 'their journey' (sorry for the cliché)

Been introducing more carbs stuff here and there, but still avoiding pasta, rice and most root veg, lost another cpl of pounds and am now in the 150’s and I haven’t been here in probably nearly two years!

I think changing eating, less booze and doing more exercise regularly has been the catalyst. I can definitely tell I’ve lost some, as stuff fits better, but at the same time it’s not hugely noticeable. it’s a reminder
of how insidious slow weight gain is - I.e. you don’t really notice until one day and then it’s ‘bam! Nothing fits anymore’

pelosi · 30/03/2021 18:57

Hi all, just caught up on the thread. Congratulations to everyone who have recorded losses and KOKO to those who haven't.

2 weeks ago I had a week off low carb, as I took my mum to Starbucks drive-thru for a treat as she's shielding, and had a sugar and milk free Frappucino, which unfortunately triggered a few days of carby twattiness. It was a case 'oh I'll just have one more burger etc'.

Thankfully it only lasted a week and I've been back on it since last week.

I've finished my first ever BC with a total loss of 17.6 pounds, and I still can't believe it! I'm now 1.5 stones from my target weight.

This is the first time I've lost weight since 2014, and I could not have done it without you all and BIWI 's big stick. I look back and cringe at some of my first few questions ("Can I eat double cream?") but glad I asked them anyway

I'm very much looking forward to the next bootcamp Smile

BIWI · 30/03/2021 19:43

@pelosi

Never be afraid of asking a question! There's always someone who is wondering the same thing.

Brilliant progress.

Well done @pelosi 💐

That's a good point about coffee shops though - what is the most bootcamp friendly coffee that isn't just a black coffee?

Dailyhandtowelwash · 30/03/2021 19:55

I’ve been having mine with unsweetened almond milk.

So my friend was so frantic at work that she couldn’t escape at all so I’ve bought some pork belly strips from M&S on the way home and will grill them when I get back with some nice green veg.

StuntNun · 30/03/2021 20:22

Hopeislost lots of places will do an Americano with "pouring cream." Otherwise I might go for a flat white since it has less milk than a latte. I like black coffee though so I usually have that unless I'm in Starbucks somewhere with particularly terrible coffee. It didn't take that long to get used to coffee without milk... on the other hand I cannot abide black tea.

cheeseisthebest · 30/03/2021 21:04

Well done everyone. I do need to break my sweet craving after dinner. I managed to break it for weeks and weeks but been struggling lately. Doesn't help that my husband always has something sweet in the evenings. I think it's very much psychological, thinking I deserve a treat.
So ridiculous

BustleInYourHedgerow · 30/03/2021 21:58

@BIWI well done on the couch to 5k!

@cheeseisthebest I'm the same struggle with the idea of something sweet after dinner. I occasionally have Greek yoghurt with a tea spoon of cacao and some raspberries as I don't eat breakfast. Not doing intermittent fasting or anything just never been a breakfast person, don't like eating first thing in the morning.

L: mushrooms, leeks and spinach fried in butter with some chilli and a fried egg on top.

D: lamb stew with feta and roasted tenderstem broccoli.

Cup of tea with cream

pelosi · 30/03/2021 22:09

Thanks @BIWI !

@Hopeislost I tried to order a frappucino using the tips in the website below but think it was confusing for the barista. Plus the fact it was a drive thru didn’t help!

MrsOmelette · 31/03/2021 06:49

I’d have black coffee or herbal tea when out, though I used to know my local cafe used unsweetened soya milk so I’d get a pot of tea there.
Can’t wait till Friday for my final weigh-in, though it’s not really as I’ll just keep on keeping on for the next year or so! ☺️
It’s my youngest’s birthday today, I got the four year old to help make banoffee cake last night and lick the spoon at end so I wasn’t tempted...she didn’t complain haha.
Today’s food: L - spinach omelette, D - beef & vegetable stir fry.

StuntNun · 31/03/2021 07:45

Cheeseisthebest I got some aged cheddar to have instead of something sweet after dinner. I think it's easier to change a habit than to try and stop it. The flavour and fat content of the cheese make it very satisfying.

VeryLittleOwl · 31/03/2021 07:50

I delayed my final weigh-in for a few days because I've been (apologies in advance) more bunged up than the Suez Canal. I suspect due to not enough water. Shipping is now moving again, so I'm finishing this boot camp at 146.8lbs (10st 6.8).

Initially I was a bit disappointed only to be 4.6lbs down this boot camp, as I was 2 pounds lighter than this a few weeks ago, but I need to look at the positives - I got started on this boot camp early because I began the year at 11st 1lb, so I've lost 8lbs this year. I'm lighter than I was 10 weeks ago. This is the first time I've ever completed two boot camps in a row (I usually get a couple of weeks into the second one, get disappointed that the weight isn't falling off in the same way as it did in the first, stop posting and give up). I'm into the healthy BMI band.

I've still got about 20lbs to lose and if I'm going to stay on track and lose it I need to accept that it's probably not going to happen as fast as the first getting-on-for 20lbs. If I can readjust my mental target to 7lbs per boot camp and keep plodding on with it, I'll get there eventually.

1stMrsF · 31/03/2021 08:02

Morning! It's taken me until now to catch up with the thread again, I've been busy, mostly due to enjoying the sunshine which is a good reason!

There are some amazing results here, including lots of successes that aren't just lbs on the scale. Well done to everyone Star

I entered Monday's weight on the spreadsheet and was very pleased with an almost 10lb loss for this bootcamp, but even happier to get on the scales this morning and see just over another lb downside I've updated it Grin

Had a lovely walk with DH on Monday, when I had a rare day off whilst the DC were still at school. We also scrubbed down the garden furniture and power hosed the patio on Sunday so we have enjoyed the warm afternoons and are all ready for Easter weekend when we'll be freezing socialising in the garden again - yay!

RagzReturnsRebooted · 31/03/2021 10:13

Argh, wrote a long post and lost it so I'm sulking now. BlushAngrySad

pelosi · 31/03/2021 11:10

I hate when that happens... type it in bullet points whilst it’s fresh in your memory Ragz 😀

prettybird · 31/03/2021 11:37

The MN app has a horrible propensity to "eat" long posts, which disappear into the ether Angry But it doesn't do it every time Confused, so I keep forgetting to copy a long post before attempting to post it, just in case Sad

ZiggZagg · 31/03/2021 11:58

Hello!!

I've just made the cheese muffins which smell absolutely divine!

I've got my mojo back I think, fingers crossed I can stay on plan now!

Hope you're all good and enjoying this fabulous weather. I've cleaned the garden and just sitting having a cup of green tea in the peace.

RagzReturnsRebooted · 31/03/2021 12:00

@prettybird it wasn't even that, I accidentally clicked on something and opened another page. Fat thumbs (on mobile). It was that issue all last week though, I did start copying and saving posts before posting. However, it seems I can finally tag people with one click rather than typing the names out, as that didn't work before.

@cheeseisthebest I had a similar few days, after I had the first mug cake as I wanted one the next day. Just kept thinking about how good it was and craving it. Scary! Then the 3rd day I found a different recipe (no almonds, half the calories, perfect excuse!) so I had to try that... Failed on day 1 of my no sweet things until Easter!

Yesterday I had wine with my neighbour while we did a Zoom intro session (for a local sea swimming group) in the garden. Wine makes me snacky, but I had peanuts instead of something sweet as wine is sweet enough. Small victory.

Back still a pain, had diazepam over the weekend (thanks to a colleague, working with GPs has its perks!) which helped but does make me sleepy so really only good for evenings. Felt OK after a few days of that though, then did some weeding yesterday and suffering today. I'm fine as long as I don't sit too long, but I LIKE sitting (lounging back, very bad posture!).
Done the pilates exercises again though, thanks to whoever posted that video.
My weight seems to like 93.1kg. Was that weight last week, then dropped a bit, now been 93.1kg for the last 3 days. Exactly the same, that's a 100g increment that my body can stick to, which seems impossible given the difference in input and output each day. Homeostasis is impressive!

BIWI · 31/03/2021 12:07

@RagzReturnsRebooted

How many peanuts though?! They are pretty carby at 10.9g per 100g.

That, along with the wine, would have added a considerable amount of carbs to your day.

Mimosa1 · 31/03/2021 12:46

Ragz, I have the same with a set weight my body likes and I've been eating very little to try to shift it and I actually think I might be eating too little so I'm going to try a few different things while we're between BCs. Mostly though, I want to see if I can maintain. I'm so good at losing weight and hopeless at keeping it off!

I've had what I think is an NSV. I bought a new suit this week and the size 14 trousers are wearable (size 10 jacket, as I'm very pear shaped) but quite snug on the leg. I was going to buy a second pair in a 16 in case I need them.. but decided not to. If I find I can't fit into these trousers, I know I need to get back on track!

lurknolinger · 31/03/2021 13:38

Great post VeryLittleOwl this really resonated with me. I finished with a 3lb loss for this boot camp. Which I was annoyed at myself with as I'd previously been 4lbs lighter but got bored with the slow weight loss and was 'Cathy Twat' for a couple of days right at the end. But like you I need to look at the positives. I've also never done 2 BC's back to back. I'd started this BC earlier in January and has already lost 5lbs of Christmas weight before it officially started. And I now weigh 3lbs less than I did at the end of the pre Christmas BC, so it's still a win. If I hadn't joined this one I would definitely be heavier. So I'm going to work on KOKO and accepting that 7lbs each BC is a good achievement- I've got just over stone to go, so it will be slow but giving up isn't going to make it happen. I rarely post but I want to participate more next time round, thank you to all these that do, I found the support, recipes and motivation on this thread really helpful. You really are a lovely bunch. Glad you've got your mojo back ZiggZagg, just in time for the next BC. I met you on one of Shags fabulous styling sessions last year, and love hearing your updates- hope you are still enjoying wearing your dress and belt. Smile
Oneborneverydecade · 31/03/2021 14:30

Happy birthday to the littlest omelette @MrsOmelette. My youngest turns 3 in April. We've decided to pay for nursery for the summer term and I was hoping for some advice on clothing. What does your lo wear for her outdoor nursery please?

Oneborneverydecade · 31/03/2021 14:32

Well done! @BIWI I'm 2 runs behind you and still cannot believe I'll manage 20 mins.

@cheeseisthebest I'm struggling with wanting something sweet too, a piece of strong cheese is a great idea

Oneborneverydecade · 31/03/2021 14:34

Forgot to add that the Cook paneer, aubergine and spinach curry was delicious, thank you to whomever recommended it

@Midlifemission?

pinkpinkeverywhere · 31/03/2021 14:38

@Oneborneverydecade I often fancy something sweet after dinner but find that a couple of strawberries fills that hole.
