The final weigh-in thread: March 2021 Low Carb Bootcamp

Here's the spreadsheet

I think this has been a really fantastic Bootcamp. Lots of really great losses.

As well as that, though, like every Bootcamp I'm always amazed and often humbled by how much we get to know people. We may all be here because we're trying to lose weight, but there's so much more going on in people's lives.

Tomorrow is the final weigh-in, but I hope very much that people will continue to check in and update us all on 'their journey' (sorry for the cliché)

I tried those brewdog ones too StuntNun, felt similar to you. I could see how they could be good on a boiling hot day in a pub garden but they didn't cut it as my weekly Friday night serving of booze at all. The black cherry one was nicer than the peach

Mimosa1 · 03/04/2021 08:01

Wow @Dailyhandtowelwash I struggle with balancing the needs of 2, hats off to you for managing 4. If you have any tips and tricks, I'm all ears Smile

We're off for a long walk this morning and have an Easter egg hunt organised for the children tomorrow. Fingers crossed the weather holds.

Bestbees · 03/04/2021 09:01

Morning all. Drank lots last night but avoided all the crispy snacks which is good, as that is usually my downfall.

All the talk about the muffins = me trotting off to make some for breakfast. Lunch will be soup probably with another muffin. Dinner is ribs, cauli cheese and maybe some cabbage.

I am aiming to be fairly srrict between this bootcamp, mostly because I have been singing praises of this woe to my parent who I will see next week. I think my dad should go low carb. He is a definite apple and struggles with carb cravings too. My mum is slim, but I think naturally limits her carbs. Eg. She can eat half a piece of toast.
I obviously can't make him, so need to show him not so much weight loss but glowing skin etc.

Normal Saturday order resumed here: DH and DS1 off to play an away match; DS2 having a lie-in; dogs have found a new bit of furniture to chew. All is right with the world.

Exciting food news: a new Turkish takeaway has opened up about 5 miles from me. Had a roast chicken shish and halloumi salad last night, which was amazing. Half left for today (although I may swerve the garlic and yoghurt sauce- I could knock out the national grid with one breath this morning Grin)

Vaccine 8am tomorrow; annual Easter egg hunt tomorrow afternoon; pub at midday on the 12th; hair on the 13th. Feel positively positive!

Very envious of the hair appointment! I couldn't get mine until 25 April.

Can't remember who it was who expressed concern about the number of earrings I've lost but fortunately found most again but just to reassure her, I do now have a mixed pack of plastic backs. Grin

In my defence, I actually haven't lost that many of my good earrings over the 40 years that I've been wearing earrings Wink The recent cluster of "losses" and finding Wink was a) because one of the pairs that dh bought me (the chunky ones with the matching necklace) came with inadequate backs for their weight. So I used the backs from my wedding earrings - and then didn't take sufficient care finding the right set of backs when I next wore them and b) the main problem has been with the "fishhook" earrings, which have a propensity to tip out when I lean over or wrap a scarf around my neck. Included in the pack that I bought last week is some tiny squidgy plastic "keepers" to stop that happening.

My mum's "final" present are fishhook ones but also have a wee hook on the front that you catch the fishhook with, so when the one fell out into the dishwasher, it was just carelessness on my part when I put them on Blush

There's a bit of a backstory Grin I was booked in for 18th Jan; been going there for 20 years; they missed me off the list when reallocating appointments and said the next apt was June! JUNE ffs.

So, I flounced and went to another salon which had just had a cancellation.

I also had a tantrum to get the vaccine. Five people I know who are younger than me and with no underlying conditions etc had it last week, so I got highly emotional and rang the surgery.

Thursday's nowlook was a stroppy one Grin

cheeseisthebest · 03/04/2021 11:29

Haha love the stropping!
I'm trying to sort a hair appointment with my husband's cousin as she can come to the house and do it.
Sorry not been on much I have been reading and keeping up. Weaned myself back off the chocolate last few days. I've realised it is a real problem for me, I need to view chocolate the way a non drinking alcoholic views alcohol as in I will always have an addiction and one bite (one drink) and I will be like Peter Barlow, nicking Cadbury's dairy milk without a thought or care for anyone else!

prettybird · 03/04/2021 11:41

I've just been Halo and resisted a very small square of home made chocolate caramel shortbread (they had been cut extra small in case I wanted one) that friends have just delivered. When I wavered, dh said, "I'm having all four, you're not get one" Wink

I reminded myself that I'm "off" on Tuesday and should stay resolute until then.

....but I'm in the middle of making sourdough hot cross buns, so when I bake them this afternoon, I'll need to try one Blush (whenever I try making something new, I always try it and then I won't be tempted in future as I "know" what it tastes like Wink)

BIWI · 03/04/2021 11:44

Thankfully I don't like hot cross buns - just as well as DH bought 4 yesterday

Ninkanink · 03/04/2021 11:46

My DH made some and they’re delicious! I don’t like them if store bought but these are really yummy. I’ve had some. Thankfully Easter only comes once a year!

cheeseisthebest · 03/04/2021 11:48

I like hot cross buns. I've just ordered two loaves of bread, one pack of hot cross buns and one pack of rolls from low carb company all to go in the freezer.

I'm like that with mince pies. The only ones I like are my own homemade ones (and in the past, the ones my mum made) Grin
BIWI · 03/04/2021 12:01

I'm also very grateful for the fact that I don't like doughnuts!

OP posts:
prettybird · 03/04/2021 12:15

Haven't tried making sourdough versions of doughnuts yet Wink

nowlook · 03/04/2021 13:37

That bread is much better today BIWI. I put it back in the oven, switched it off, and left it overnight. DH says it just tastes like normal wholemeal, but it's definitely heavier, which sounds more like a question of technique than ingredients, doesn't it?

I'm going to give it another bash this afternoon, but by hand rather than using a dough hook on a really shitty Aldi mixer Grin. May also break out the loaf tin.

FusionChefGeoff · 03/04/2021 14:11

Morning all.

Had our first guests for fire pit chilli last night. They brought a Black Forest gateaux but I stuck with Greek yoghurt and some frozen berry mix. Also managed to avoid the nachos.

Any suggestions for what else I could dip into guacamole as I do love it??

Made the pancakes - were a great texture, put a tiny bit of stevia in but they were very savoury. Had Greek yog and strawberries with them but might try cream cheese and smoked salmon next time.

Curry tonight.

Can I have some suggestions for veggie sides I could make?? I have

Cauliflower
Broccoli (mostly stalk - heads are in curry)
Cabbage
Mushrooms
Courgette
Spinach (but sadly no paneer!)
Celeriac
Celery
Shallots
Green beans
Most spices

I've done roasted cauli with sprinkle of cumin before.

nowlook · 03/04/2021 14:24

Definitely bombay celeriac fusion !

nowlook · 03/04/2021 14:28

And then Indian roasted cauli, mushrooms and green beans

here

Ninkanink · 03/04/2021 14:35

@FusionChefGeoff try cheese crisps/crackers with your guacamole. Or crispy bacon (fry streaky bacon then leave to cool). Or you could dip crudités into it, or spoon it onto cucumber rounds. Perhaps toast or fry some seriously low carb bread and make breadsticks/croutons?

nowlook · 03/04/2021 14:56

I can tell you what not to try fusion:

Itsu seaweed thins

Ordered those in the first couple of weeks. Not entirely sure what purpose they serve Grin

StuntNun · 03/04/2021 16:06

FusionChefGeoff how about chorizo or salami chips? Just microwave some slices on a piece of kitchen towel for about a minute. They're like the ones you buy in M&S only much cheaper and you can eat them warm.

I spent a good 5 mins in the supermarket recently holding a pack of these, trying to fathom their purpose. Not enough calories for the price, given they didn't look in any way filling and like they would shatter under a hard stare.

Readying ourselves for barbecue. It's cold, but we have blankets and a (shhhh) firepit.
Bring on the meat!

Ohh, I've done that with chorizo slices in the air fryer but hadn't considered it would work with salami. I have salami (a few days OOD) in the fridge.
FusionChefGeoff · 03/04/2021 16:49

@StuntNun @Ninkanink excellent ideas we have all the things to make those suggestions!!

@nowlook love those Indian ideas - putting my apron on now Smile
