Week 2 - Pre-Christmas Low Carb Bootcamp - the first weigh-in!

BIWI · 22/10/2018 07:30

Morning all!

I love this week. It's my favourite week of the whole Bootcamp, because it's when people are finally convinced that it works!

And already I see some great losses - yes @TightPants that really can be true. No your scales aren't wrong, and presumably you'll be changing your name very soon?!

Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness to record the first week's loss.

Looking forward to hearing more great results Flowers

(Also, veggy low carbing means meal out options are really limited. Although hoping maybe somewhere with some good tofu dishes)

blackteaplease · 24/10/2018 09:47

It's completely worth it @StAlphonzo. Think of your future slim self, and stick with it.

Are you buying both meals out today? Can you take a packed lunch?

FuriousFifties · 24/10/2018 09:48

We can do it stalphonzo and it is worth it, we're worth it.

Youcantscaremeihavechildren · 24/10/2018 10:01

Urgh, started my period today, plus I'm going to be assaulted with all manner of carby twatishness today...its going to be hard, just going to snack on cheese etc in readiness. I think she'll have cold meats, celery etc there today so they'll be something. I really don't want to be that person with my own lunch! I did weigh myself this morning and I've gone lost 3lbs since Monday morning... I'm usually a couple of lbs up first day of my period too..
I'm not drinking enough water, need to try today. Need to get through it today.
Thanks whoever suggested coconut cream, it was lovely in coffee.
B coffee with coconut cream, eggs and bacon
L whatever I can find...
D pork belly, stuffed mushrooms and caballo Nero? (not sure I've spelt that right.. ) , loads of butter. I've realised the stuffed mushrooms I bought yesterday have breadcrumbs on top, I'm going to scrape them off though.
I'm still a bit down and tearful but feeling better about our cat, we've got her sister still and she's giving lots of comfort, although she's very lost. It was really cold last night and I had a ridiculous thought about her being cold outside in the middle of the night, silly I know!

Spiderkitty · 24/10/2018 11:58

It is worth it StAlphonzo! I know it's hard when you haven't seen a lot of movement on the scales, but hang on in there, do you know where you'll be eating? Can you look at the menus online before hand or maybe ask for them to make something "off menu" for you? Most places have been happy to do this for DS who is gluten free.

Well done for your loss so far this week, Youcantscareme, I've found you sometimes have to have a bit of an odd selection when having lunch elsewhere, but I'm sure you'll be able to cobble something together from what's on offer!

One of our cats died very suddenly and unexpectedly a couple of months ago (he had a saddle thrombus) and our other two missed him dreadfully, they've finally got back to normal now, but they were quite unsettled for a while after it happened. You could always think about keeping your girl inside overnight (if she'll tolerate it), one of my outdoor cats comes in every night and it does stop me worrying so much! (The other is feral and won't come in the house at all!)

Rshard · 24/10/2018 12:11

So worth it @stalphonzo! Getting used to navigating things like that is hard at first but definitely gets easier.
Well done on the loss @youcantscareme and sorry to read about your cat.

prettybird · 24/10/2018 12:37

It is not just simply worth it StAlphonzospancakebreakfast - more importantly you are worth it! FlowersSmile

WheelyWheelySpookilicousCotee · 24/10/2018 12:44

I'm a bit late for updating the sheet. I was 1lb down on Monday :)

Which is great considering all the lemsips (sorry Biwi).

Most people are asking if I'm doing the Atkins diet🙄 I just say NO I'm just cutting out starchy sugary things otherwise I feel like I'm explaining things and finding people are quite judgey.

WheelyWheelySpookilicousCotee · 24/10/2018 12:47

Forgot to sort lunch and the shop were I work has carb full food. I swerved it and picked pots of tuna, spinach and cheese from the canteen.

Glad I put the pot noodle back and went to the canteen instead😁

boldlygoingsomewhere · 24/10/2018 12:47

StAlphonzo, try and keep going. It is hard at first to navigate a low carb lifestyle when out and about as so many places only offer very carby foods. At first you also feel hungry more. However, after a few months of low-carb eating I find that I can easily go for long periods without feeling hungry at all - sometimes I have to remind myself to eat! Recently I did a 6 hour journey without stopping for lunch/snacking and felt absolutely fine.
The ability to do this is actually quite freeing - it gives more headspace when you’re not constantly thinking about the next ‘meal’ or feeling ‘hangry’.

Wildheartsease · 24/10/2018 13:26

Umm I love the idea of chicken breast stuffed with pate. (I usually stuff it with garlic cream cheese and spinach but I'm trying not to rely too much on dairy.)

Today
Breakfast - (on the paw) babybels and redbush tea
Eating anything at this time is hard!
water
Lunch - onion/leek/tomato/spinach in butter with eggs fried in the middle. Water
Water
Dinner will be: Chicken legs, skin on with smoked paprika and seasalt+ veg baked in olive oil . Water
supper - water or more redbush tea
Snack - if needed -Greek yogurt and cream
Walks - uphill and down for an hour this am. 20 mins or so on the flat this afternoon.

tootstastic · 24/10/2018 13:37

Time of the month for me too today. I was wondering why the scales haven't shifted for the 4th day in a row, so hoping it's just water retention. I feel a bit tired and fragile and a bit snappy, but the food is going well.

I had a really good breakfast of scrambly eggs in butter with spinach plus Greek yoghurt with cinnamon and not particularly hungry now, despite it being lunchtime, which is unheard of for me.

I've put on some dark denim flares that were a bit tight a couple of weeks ago and they definitely feel roomier, so that was a nice little boost this morning. Tum is looking flatter too.

flyright · 24/10/2018 14:12

bit late to the party - but what an inspiring thread.

Just back from work trip to the States where my low carbing went to pot completely. Had lost 16 pounds over 3 months so hardly speedy and have now put 4 back on.

Back in the saddle and will try to see if I can speed up a bit with the help of this thread. I think possibly I have too many nuts, not enough fat and too much alcohol for sure. We'll see.

Well done on all the great starts - it's fantastic what this WOE can do.

BIWI · 24/10/2018 15:52

@StAlphonzospancakebreakfast Don't give in! Weight loss is never linear, and even more so on this WOE for some reason.

Just visualise yourself on the scales next week if you do give in - you will be CERTAIN to have gained. Given that, wouldn't it be better to stay the same, even if you don't lose?

Please can I do a late join?

Just been directed here having posted here;

Can I just ask - do you all eat beans/ legumes or anything? I've had a really carby day today but I'm determined to start fresh tomorrow rather than wait for a new week and lose precious time.

Love reading what people have eaten its very inspiring!

BIWI · 24/10/2018 16:24

Welcome! If you click on the link to the spreadsheet in my OP you'll see a tab at the bottom with the rules.

Sorry to say though that beans/legumes/pulses aren't allowed on Bootcamp.

StuntNun · 24/10/2018 18:12

Please don't get too hung up on the number on the scales. Even if you follow the rules perfectly you will not lose weight every week. Ask anyone that has had success on this WoE to post their progress graph and you will see a wiggly line with an overall downward trend.

The hypothesis is that when fat cell release their stored fat into the blood they take in the equivalent amount of water. So even though you are burning fat every single day, the retained water means the scales stay the same. This is why we can lose inches when we don't lose pounds - the water takes up less space than the fat did. Then, when a sufficient number of fat cells are filled with water they all release it at the same time and, whoosh, a couple of pounds disappear overnight. If you're observant you'll notice that you pee a lot more on the day before a whoosh, that's your body getting rid of the water.

ClashCityRocker · 24/10/2018 19:07

I certainly feel slimmer than I did when I first started - much less bloated.

I also feel satisfied rather than stuffed after meals, which is good.

WheelyWheelySpookilicousCotee · 24/10/2018 19:09

Found rice cauliflower in Tesco, thank you to the lovely mumsnetter who recommended!

Thai green chicken thigh curry with cauli rice. Have adapted the recipe for low carb. Even made my own Thai paste💪🏻 Currently bubbling away and smells yum

WheelyWheelySpookilicousCotee · 24/10/2018 19:17

I'd love to do a beef bourginon low carb with celeriac mash.....beef, shallots, mushrooms.....
but the red wine is the problem. Anyone have any suggestions on a red wine low carb alternative?

Youcantscaremeihavechildren · 24/10/2018 19:26

I survived a room heaving with sugar! Cakes, crisps, sweets, chocolate, cupcake decorating, scones... There was quiche and salad chips dips etc for the adults, so I made do with loads of lettuce (afterwards realised it had dressing on ooops) and salsa, plus a slice of ham. I'd eaten a couple of gouda and salami roll ups too on the way so it wasn't too bad, just amazed I held my nerve!
Been invited out on Saturday night, really want to go but it involves eating at someone's house in the evening then everyone will be drinking... I kind of think it's better to just not go but I've got serious FOMO....

NLisa · 24/10/2018 19:29

I’m having a really hard day.
The whole day I have been feeling light headed and a bit of a headache. I am drinking a lot in the hope it will get better. And cooking with salt, unfortunately nothing seems to help.
I keep reading the tread so I don’t loose my focus, thank you all for keeping me motivated.

prettybird · 24/10/2018 19:45

NLisa - sounds like you have carb flu. It will pass. Smile

Youcantscareme - can you contact your friend and explain that you are HFLC? Say that you're not wanting him/her to make anything special but you just want to know if you would need to being some extra (say) cheese so that there was enough for you. (if it's lasagne, a bit more of a problem Wink, but lamb roast would be fine with plenty of veg would be ok Grin). And just say you will be drinking water. Say you're on Sober October if necessary Grin

prettybird · 24/10/2018 19:45

...and congratulations on resisting all the temptation! Flowers

titsbumfannythelot · 24/10/2018 19:56

Well that's me back from holiday and ready to kick off bootcamp. I'm not looking forward to the weigh in tomorrow but hoping it'll be a very short lived spike.
