Welcome to week 3!

As BIWI's away, she asked if I would start the week 3 thread. I've stolen her words from a previous week 3, as it's such a good explanation of bootcamp v. bootcamp light. Grin

@FlowinElla oooh, what are goat chops?

MrsBertBibby · 31/05/2018 21:40

Loaf, not load.

I imagine goat chops are like lamb or pork chops, but made of goat.

Laska5772 · 31/05/2018 21:50

ill chuck it then I think rayna

JingsMahBucket · 31/05/2018 21:51

@MrsBertBibby that would be lovely. I love goat meat.

On another barnyard related note, I'm going to make bone broth and subsequent soup tomorrow from some nice beef big bones from the meat counter and pork cheeks I've had in my freezer. Any suggestions for soup add ins that aren't very carby but will make it feel more substantial? I'm thinking of adding chopped kale.

OH made a really good vegetable soup base a couple of days ago and I'll mix the bone broth with that to do a final rich soup.

It's nuts that I'm thinking of making soup even though it's summer but it's started raining where I am so I figure I might as well take advantage of the temporary dip in temps the next couple of days.

Titsywoo · 31/05/2018 21:57

Good day today :)

B - 2 hard boiled eggs
L - 2 Portobello mushrooms with spinach and feta
D - I shared a rib of beef with the kids and had mashed cauliflower, broccoli and green beans with it

clare8allthepies · 31/05/2018 21:59

I was coming to also recommend the idiot proof diet cookbook (and the book is very good too) and I realise that I haven’t read it for ages! Got it out and will have a look in the morning.

Made chicken curry, mushroom bhaji and raita for dinner tonight. It was lovely although I was a little heavy handed with the chilli 🌶. Definitely a once in a while meal not a frequent one as I worked it out to be about 16g carbs.

FlowinElla · 31/05/2018 22:25

shagme Grin

@JingsMahBucket, yes, what mrsbert said - thick, fatty chops of goat meat, ordered online; I only ever tried Jamaican curried goat before, and found these tastier than lamb chops.

BlackMozart · 31/05/2018 22:49

I’ve got goats butter. It’s lovely.

itchyknees · 31/05/2018 22:53

Claire8allthepies how do you do the batter for the bahji?

Yarboosucks · 31/05/2018 23:04

Hi hi!
Food for today
B= coffee with ff lactose free milk
L= Filled halloumi and roast broccoli with olive oil and mayo
S= scratchings and 2 boiled eggs
D= A big avocado and Turkey breast with olive oil chilli flakes and mayo

This is my first day without eating asparagus this week! I have singlehandedly romped my way through a kilo bag from a local grower this week!

clare8allthepies · 31/05/2018 23:17

@itchyknees not a fried battered bhaji like an onion bhaji but a dryish mushroom curry to go alongside the chicken one. Since my partner has started following this along with me we’ve discovered that he loathes cauliflower as much as I do so cauliflower rice is out! 😂

There is a recipe in the IPD cookbook for onion bhaji that makes a batter of cumin seeds, ground almonds, turmeric, salt, baking powder, chilliest, egg yolks, cream and whisked egg whites.

UnimaginativeUsername · 31/05/2018 23:25

Have you tried roasting the cauliflower @clare8allthepies? It is a big improvement over boiling/steaming. I’m not a fan of cauliflower rice - and my children would revolt if I tried to serve it instead of rice.

Gammeldragz · 31/05/2018 23:42

BIWI I hadn't been shopping since the Monday before we went camping and we didn't have a lot else in. It isn't something I plan to keep up, I promise!
Now have some food in and have already got salad made for tomorrow and cooked a load of chicken thighs so I've sorted low carb lunches for the next few days. Veg delivery arrives tomorrow so I'll have plenty of choice then.
Books ordered so planning to meal plan around new recipes and whatever is in the veg box tomorrow as most of our meat is in the freezer.

clare8allthepies · 31/05/2018 23:52

@UnimaginativeUsername in the past I have made out of cauliflower: mash, rice, couscous, pizza and breadsticks. All foul. Any time I would comment wistfully about a food I was missing, for example KFC, my DP would always say ‘can’t you make it out of cauliflower?’ 😂

The only ways I don’t mind it is either in a curry or smothered in cheese sauce so basically where you can’t taste it at all!

neveradullmoment99 · 31/05/2018 23:52

Hello :) Hoping to join. I have been doing the 5:2 as a WOL for over a year now. It has been great. However more and more i feel i am becoming intolerant to carbs - bloating terribly with pasta especially and anything sugary. I have an awful sweet tooth. I really need to change things. I have visitors up on Monday so doubt i can do it until after then. I don't have too much to lose. I never weigh myself, only measure as i tend to obsess about it and it really hampers mood if i don't lose. I am looking to lose around around a stone at the most.

Gammeldragz · 31/05/2018 23:53

Thanks to all the posters endorsing the IPD books, I have ordered both for a few quid each. Especially looking forward to the bhaji recipe as I miss my homemade deep fried onion bhaji (as do the rest of the family!). I tried making them with coconut flour but they weren't great. I find coconut flour really hard to get on with and although I love coconut, the flavour doesn't work with everything!

UnimaginativeUsername · 31/05/2018 23:57

@clare8allthepies: If you ever fancy more cauliflower experimentation, do roast it. You can cover it in spices first too to reduce the chances you’ll taste cauliflower.

UnimaginativeUsername · 31/05/2018 23:58

Would ground almonds work @Gammeldragz?

Gammeldragz · 01/06/2018 01:09

UU I find too much ground almonds in a recipe gives me an upset stomach.
Love roasted cauliflower, DH detests it in any form.

Twoo · 01/06/2018 03:07

Lack of Carb insomnia strikes again.

I made a great tasting cauli purée last night to go with a nice chunky piece of cod. I cooked the cauli on the stove top in bouillon stock and a knob of butter. When soft, drain, add more butter, cream, salt and pepper and blend with a stick blender. Lovely it was.

JingsMahBucket · 01/06/2018 03:23

@Gammeldragz I personally hate coconut flour. I’ve tried it in so many recipes and finally just threw my box of it out. I hate the taste, genuinely. I’m fine with coconut oil and some other things, it’s just the flour I hate.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 01/06/2018 05:23

Morning, all. Heading towards the longest day here, and the cats just know that 4.30 am is our new getting up time. bastards

Sort of NSV here - as a PP said, low-carb even gets you better jobs - I have been offered something I am very keen on, up in Glasgow. So yesterday we had a small celebration, only... I didn't really like my glass of champagne. Forced down another, just because, and liked that one even less...

So a bit conflicted, because a) great, but b) that's awful Shock

Off on holiday for a week in Mallorca - typically for me the weather is unusually wet! So packed raincoats and brollies as well as swimsuits!

Weighed myself this morning and I'm back up again after a mid week drop, so overall lost 3lbs on bootcamp so far.

Will stick to it as much as possible on holiday and see where I am when I get back.

See you all in a week!

Rshard · 01/06/2018 06:45

Enjoy Mallorca farine, love that place

Rayna37 · 01/06/2018 07:01

itchyknees and gammeldragz the onion bhajia recipe from IPD is AMAZING (but use shallots). So, so good. They freeze well, you have to do this or you'd eat them all.
