Welcome to week 3!

As BIWI's away, she asked if I would start the week 3 thread. I've stolen her words from a previous week 3, as it's such a good explanation of bootcamp v. bootcamp light. Grin

Having lost about 6lbs I think I'm now going to have to bow out as I got my BFP this morning!

I have found varying info about whether this WOE is safe in pregnancy, but certainly you are supposed to avoid ketosis. I am going to stick to a very light/relaxed version, I am still going to avoid bread and grains, but add in more fruits and nuts and seeds, and stick to mainly unprocessed foods. That can't be bad for baby surely?

Just now mourning the loss of my morning coffee, and blue cheese! 😂

@BIWI - any advice about pregnancy and LC, or is the official advice still to avoid?

oldbirdy · 01/06/2018 08:15

Wow random, congratulations!

I don't pretend to understand this but after my grumble yesterday, today I appear to have lost 4 lb overnight!

The electrolytes have helped my hangover wakeup, too. How many tablets are advised each day? It's weird drinking something sweet tasting.

Thanks for the advice yesterday BIWI.

ajandjjmum · 01/06/2018 08:23

Still the same weight but thank you BIWI, although the loss has stalled, I was impressed in the first two weeks so can't be going to far wrong!

You've put my mind at ease. Flowers

ajandjjmum · 01/06/2018 08:23

*too

MrsBertBibby · 01/06/2018 08:29

Bumped back down at last to last Sunday's weight. Come on.

GiantPandaAttacks · 01/06/2018 08:33

Congratulations random!

Waswittyonce · 01/06/2018 08:36

Congratulations @randomuntrainedcuntowner
Have a wonderful holiday @farine, Mallorca is really lovely, had a fab time there a few years ago, would love to go back one day.
Have been feeling really meh lately, haven't been getting enough exercise and spending too much time working in front of a computer I think.
Am in a just can't be arsed sort of mood, can't get excited about food at all and it's all a bit of an effort. Had first takeaway in six months last night, curry. No rice or naan obvs, just garlic chicken, mushroom bhaji and cauliflower bhaji. I also had a beer to try and cheer myself up (stupid, I know) Blush, one of my previous favourites, but it tasted funny and I didn't enjoy it.
Woke up at 2.30am with a banging headache, which I partially fixed with a glass of water with salt and lemon juice, which I remembered was mentioned up thread somewhere. I haven't been taking electrolytes, so I will get some today.
Do they help with sleeping at all, or does any have any tips? I kind of sleep, but don't wake up feeling like I have, iykwim.

blackteaplease · 01/06/2018 08:40

Congratulations random. I'm sure we have had pregnant bootcampers before if you did want to stick with us.

randomuntrainedcuntowner · 01/06/2018 09:09

I have already fallen of the wagon by having a bowl of crispy minis! 😳 The logic being that I did a ketostix before the P.T. and I was in deep ketosis, figured I need to get myself out of it and dds looked so appetising with cold milk...

But then I'll be back on it but in s relaxed way, already got a few ideas like e.g. having yogurt with berries and seeds for breakfast etc. Also going to a fairly carby place for dinner tonight as an end of half term treat for dd, so if I go off piste a bit today it won't be the end of the world!

maxthemartian · 01/06/2018 09:29

random, congratulations!
And now look away as you won't be having any of this! Apologies for Daily Mail link but it's a no-sugar-added rose for those doing Boot Camp Lite and planning to indulge in a bit of wine.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 01/06/2018 09:52

Congratulations random and Athel! That's great news from both of you!

qumquat · 01/06/2018 09:58

I know the conversation's moved on but like ilove I love The Real Meal Revolution' cookbook. Lots of pictures and gorgeous recipes. It also has lots of info on the science of lchf which is useful for motivation.

qumquat · 01/06/2018 09:59

Congratulations random!

ShagMeRiggins · 01/06/2018 10:19

gammelragz I’m another one who loves th IPD cookbook. Favourites are the Hot Thai Beef Salad (food of the gods) and the recipe for blue cheese dressing. I double it to use as a sauce for a ribeye and firm green veg (asparagus, long-stemmed broccoli etc). Lush. The remaining dressing goes in the fridge for either a future salad or for dipping with cauliflower/other crudités.

oldbirdy if you want to cut back on dairy don’t worry about the butter. It doesn’t have the same stall effect as cream and cheeses, and can really be used liberally on this way of eating.

I have an event in early July so am going to try a dry June for maximum weight loss impact (and see how far I get this time...).

Craving a Greek salad lately. Going to have a rummage for ingredients. Yum.

abbey44 · 01/06/2018 11:12

Congratulations random - what lovely news!

I got that pre-holiday weight back on the scales this morning (that milestone four stone mark since I began LC last September), so let's hope it sticks for the weekend. Didn't think I'd shift it all quite so soon, but bloody glad I have - feel so much better.

Just sticking with the same meals that I've had for this week - it may not be terribly exciting, but it's working, and at least I don't have to think too hard about it.

Divette · 01/06/2018 11:40

Congrats Random! I haven’t eaten yet today-been nervously waiting in for 2 armchairs we ordered a while ago. Gone quite ‘out there’ with the design (even the delivery men said, ‘they’re very different’!) and DH said he’d kill me if I decided I didn’t like them when they arrived (he knows how fickle I am!) Anyway they’re here and I think I like them so phew! Can now think about eating but have no idea what I fancy and actually not much appetite anyway. Will raid the fridge but probably something eggy again...can’t face the mashed butter ones though I don’t think, even though I did see a slight loss today after eating them yesterday!

Oh and a NSV for me-I saw my dad yesterday for the first time in about 6 weeks and he said, ‘You look really lovely darling’ Smile Not quite the ‘you look svelte and slender’ I’d have liked, although not likely at still 3.5 stone over target, and he always thinks I look lovely anyway as his precious daughter (i’m such a daddy’s girl) but anyway, i’ll take it!

KOKO everyone!

Gammeldragz · 01/06/2018 12:35

Just had a big salad with chicken thighs, EVOO dressing and mayo. Veg and fat Halo

StuntNun · 01/06/2018 12:36

Waswitty these Magnesium Glycinate capsuless* have transformed my sleep quality. I get to sleep much more easily and sleep more deeply when I take them. I did ask a doctor about it (because my DS1 has sleep issues) and she reckons it will only be effective if magnesium deficiency is the cause of the poor sleep. It's not easy to tell whether you're deficient in magnesium because the blood test is extremely inaccurate so it might be worth a try.

Great stuff OldBirdy. Afaik the recommendation for the electrolyte tablets is printed on the tube.

Congratulations Random. You should be okay to continue eating low carb during pregnancy although morning sickness can make it difficult if all you want is carbs. I had a low carb pregnancy myself and I recommend sticking to Bootcamp Light (not strictly necessary but going by the precautionary principle) and taking a pregnancy supplement as the baby gets first dibs on vitamins and minerals. There's little evidence for avoiding ketosis in pregnancy as women who suffer from hyperemesis often end up in ketosis for a significant proportion of their pregnancy and there is no impact on the baby. If you're in the UK then Stilton is allowed during pregnancyy* because it is a hard cheese. It's only the soft blue cheeses that you need to avoid.

StuntNun · 01/06/2018 12:37

Oh bollocks. Apologies for the massive bold fail. I should know better than to use my phone for posting.

FlowinElla · 01/06/2018 12:43

Congrats random! I don't have personal experience, but remember hearing that pregnant and breastfeeding women naturally have an easy time getting into ketosis - after all, that is what all the fat was laid down for: fuelling baby development and growth. Eating healthy, natural low carb foods cannot be bad, anyway!

Thinking of going to the cinema tonight, and I'm really anxious about B&J ice cream - it used to be easy to avoid it, but I'm currently feeling "eh, it's small, won't hurt". IT WILL HURT!!!! In so many ways. Argh. Maybe I should postpone the movie till next week, hoping the cravings would die down. Or have another avocado before leaving the house.

traceyturnblatt · 01/06/2018 13:37

Hi all,

Ok confession time - @BIWI feel free to get the big stick, I think I need it.

Yesterday I was diagnosed with another condition that means long treatments, therapies and a huge effect on my daily life. I'm gutted, worried about how it will be for my two little boys and my DH and my work career.

I already have a long term condition that causes me grief most days but I cope with (most people don't know that I even have it), this new diagnosis has thrown me for a loop.

So I had chocolate yesterday and today. I didn't even like it. It wasn't even for comfort and I don't know why I did it.

I'll start fresh tomorrow but just wanted to fess up (and have a wee cry to myself).
