Week 3 – Keep celebrating the scale and non-scale victories!

Hello Bootcampers and welcome to week 3. Thanks so much to PrettyBird for the previous threads – I hope I can live up to the high standards this week.

Hopefully this WOE (way of eating) is starting to feel easier for you, and you will have seen some good losses in weeks 1 & 2. The exciting thing about week three, is that for those who want to, we can tentatively move into Bootcamp Light.

The key changes are that you can add in some carbier vegetables in moderation, although it is best to stick to those that are 3g carbs per 100g or less for the majority of your vegetable intake. You can add some fruit in the form of berries in moderation, have nuts and seeds in moderation, and can have some alcohol – you guessed it – IN MODERATION. Vodka and soda, dry white wine, or red wine are the best choices. The rules for Bootcamp and Bootcamp Light, along with fruit, veg & nut carb counters are in the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness, kindly organised by SayrraT.

The good thing about Bootcamp Light is that it opens up your menu choices, and hopefully feels sustainable for a lot of people. However don’t be tempted to view this as a free for all – if you suddenly start eating loads of roasted butternut squash, followed by bowlfuls of berries all washed down with a bottle of Prosecco and packet of almonds, it will stall you.

Lots of people find that sticking to Bootcamp during the week, and Bootcamp Light for the weekend works well for them. Others find that they need to stick to Bootcamp in the main, either because their metabolisms can’t cope with the extra carbs (me) or because psychologically they are in the ‘abstainer’ camp (also me) rather than the ‘moderation’ camp. Just do whatever works for you.

Some people find they stall in Weeks 3 and 4, and the initial whooshes of weeks 1 and 2 can quickly become distant memories. Just KOKO (keep on keeping on), celebrate non-scale victories, drink plenty of water, and trust that this will work. Weight loss isn’t always linear, and there are loads of posters on here who have had amazing losses over the last year who are testament that this works in the long term.

So after what feels like an epic OP Grin, good luck on the scale and non-scale victories this week!

I hope you are safely home again now and that your DH is ok. I’m off to bed now so will have to check in again tomorrow.

prettybird · 22/01/2018 23:23

Oh no Beryl SadShock - I hope it's not as bad as you/he fears.

WhoKn0ws - those NSVs are great aren't they! Squeezing into a pair of jeans (or in your case, a bra) and then a bit later realising that the zip is now doing up easily. Grin

One of the bras I am currently wearing was too tight when I bought it lots of back fat Blush but now it fits well. (technically 2 cup sizes too small as it is a 34DD but seems to work ok could maybe do with an E but Tesco doesn't do an E In that style )

BerylStreep · 22/01/2018 23:31

He did it playing sport. It is almost certainly ruptured - he heard a massive twang and the foot was completely floppy afterwards. The really sad thing is he was due to go skiing on Saturday and had been really looking forward to it. I feel so terrible for him. I'm waiting at home for the call to collect him from A&E, but dear knows how long he will be. A&E was full to bursting when we arrived.

I'm passing the time by exploring the Diet Doctor website. It's really good.

prettybird · 22/01/2018 23:38

Was he due to go skiing with you in March? Sad

CointreauVersial · 22/01/2018 23:39

@JingsMahBucket - here's the Keema recipe from the IPD Cook Book - hope you can read it.

I used shallot instead of onion. I made a big vat of it, and it was even nicer the second time around. Not super-spicy, but that's fine by me.

Week 3 – Keep celebrating the scale and non-scale victories!
BerylStreep · 22/01/2018 23:47

PrettyBird yes. I don't know what's going to happen with that holiday now. It's 8 weeks away, but I have no idea how long it takes to recover.

prettybird · 22/01/2018 23:49

A colleague ruptured his Achilles - but I can't remember if it was 6 weeks or 6 months Shock I remember the number 6 Wink

....you'll find out soon enough Hmm

prettybird · 22/01/2018 23:52

Just looked it up Sad: the six was correct. Six weeks to weight bearing and six months to full recovery. Sad

YoLoHogwomanay · 22/01/2018 23:54

oh no beryl I hope it's ok. Do they surgerise these things or can they heal on their own?

I haven't weighed yet this week constipated. I didn't like last week's weight so didn't record it. I'm a daily weigher anyway so I'm waiting for a dip and that will be what I record!

lovely to hear everyone's successes.

today I picked out the middles of two corporate lunch sandwiches. nobody batted an eyelid. I didn't explain or draw attention to it. nobody else cares what you eat!!

I made a delicious dinner: sauteed white cabbage in butter with some chorizo and plenty of black pepper. added a glug of cream and brought to the boil. chucked in chopped feta at the end which melted into the cream to make a sharp cheesy salty creamy sauce for the cabbage. tasted amazing and a small portion filled me right up.

Snowysnowysnow · 23/01/2018 04:24

Manic week at work so too busy to update spreadsheet yesterday. 3.5lb down so making up for last week. Survived a weekend camping sticking to boot camp as well.

Bit a dilemma here. Had a health check and apparently have a mildly elevated colestaeal and doc has recommended a low fat diet. I'm inclined to ignore as I think the driver is being overweight and I need to get my BMI down. Obviously need to research but any sciency thoughts welcomed!

blackteaplease · 23/01/2018 05:42

Checking in for today, there are some amazing losses going on.

I am having real difficulty with my mind set this bootcamp. I'm following and lurking whilst giving myself a mental shake.

BIWI · 23/01/2018 05:43

@Snowysnowysnow - I'm sure StuntNun will be along to explain/reassure, but I think your instinct is right. Unless you have a family history (genetic) of high cholesterol, I'd be tempted to give Bootcamp a good go and see what happens. Particularly if your levels are mildly elevated.

Zoe Harcombe writes a lot about cholesterol. It's a healing agent, and it's particularly important to note that low cholesterol in women (especially older women) can be a negative marker for heart disease! Despite what we've been told ...

BIWI · 23/01/2018 05:46

@Wh0KnowsWhereTheT1meG0es I have two of those, and can well identify with the need to wrangle yourself into them! I was wearing one of them at the gym, in a session with my PT, when the zip failed! Thankfully I was at an appropriate point in the session where I could hastily do it back up again without anyone noticing Grin

@BerylStreep sorry to hear about your husband's injury. Doesn't sound like he'll be making that skiing trip Sad

LeapinLizards · 23/01/2018 06:10

@Beryl hope your husband is ok. Very sorry to hear about his achilles. I have problems with mine - nothing close to as severe as his injury - so I imagine it was phenomenally painful to rupture it. And massively disappointing for him to miss out on skiing.

Biwi I laughed out loud at your sports bra story - it's like something from a Carry On film!

SayrraT · 23/01/2018 07:16

Had a work dinner out last night but managed low carb very easily. Squid to start then braised pork cheeks with sautéed greens for main.

Today we gave an event at work, normally rubbish sandwiches. This time I was in charge of the catering so I chose a finger buffet with several lc options GrinWink

I am 2lbs up this week but I did drink on my birthday so not surprised.

IAmSamSamlAm don't worry I won't delete anyone that has weights in. I checked this morning and you do Confused I don't know what happened. I usually also leave people I recognise having posted on the thread. I really just want to delete those who signed up and didn't ever start.

head I'll leave you, I don't think the spreadsheet volunteers mind adding weights Smile

JingsMahBucket · 23/01/2018 07:18

@CointreauVersial thank you, I can read that just fine. I’ll add that to my recipe book later today. After digitizing it, I’ll add it to the recipe thread.

Rshard · 23/01/2018 07:29

Hope your dh is ok beryl

Loads of fab nsv’s, particularly the sports bra the zips up easily now!

JingsMahBucket · 23/01/2018 07:45

@ilovecherries your transformation has been amazing. That and sports bra stories have refocused me to keep trying.

Oooh I just found this recipe for mushrooms stuffed with cream cheese, arugula (rocket), and salami: www.thefunguymushrooms.com/recipes/funguy-mushrooms-stuffed-arugula-salami-cream-cheese/. I have all the ingredients. I may do this for dinner tonight. I also want to make a broccoli and Stilton soup this week.

prettybird · 23/01/2018 07:46

SayrraT - don't worry, you're not going mad..... IAmSamSamIAm wasn't on the spreadsheet yesterday. Her weight were put in (twice by two different people Shock - must have had the google doc open at the same time Confused)

CointreauVersial · 23/01/2018 08:06

Thanks Jings. I was too lazy to type it all out.

Just scoffing my daily cheesy omelette before dashing off on the school/college run.......

Almahart · 23/01/2018 08:28

I clearly can't be trusted to do Bootcamp without posting regularly. Massively fell of the wagon over the weekend. Back on it since yesterday. Still two pounds down from start of BC but have put two pounds back on.

Yesterday's food - no breakfast, bacon and eggs for lunch, homemade burgers with cauliflower egg rice for dinner. Snacks: gorgonzola and cucumber and asparagus with butter

Today - so far left over cauli rice and hm tzatziki for breakfast

The scales are actually now broken which I don't like = am a daily weigher

Lesson of the weekend - alchohol and bootcamp don't really combine - I lost all willpower

BadlyParkedRangeRover · 23/01/2018 08:31

@beryl so sorry for your husband! Are they going to repair it surgically or go for a cast?
Feel much better today, probably because I didn't eat carby shit yesterday. The thirst I get when I'm going into ketosis is starting so all good. Re- reading 'why we get fat ' by Gary Taubes. Still struggling with the ' you overeat because you are fat ' message. It makes sense but it is so very ingrained that I'm fat because I'm a weak person who can't put down the cakes!

EeeSheWasThin · 23/01/2018 08:39

Had a hopeless week last week (culminating in a visit to Costa on Sunday) and am rewarded for my twattery by a 2lb weight gain.

Back on the straight and narrow...only thing I’m doing well at is the water consumption.

Will someone post 144lb on the spreadsheet for me please? Thanks.

PennyMise · 23/01/2018 09:09

Thank you.@Beryl for updating the spreadsheet. So sorry to hear about your DH. He must be gutted to potentially not be able to go skiing.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 23/01/2018 09:17

I had a lovely dinner last night - pizza stuffed peppers! Basically pizza toppings put into a pepper, smothered with a garlic cheese sauce and baked. Will put the recipe into the recipe thread when I get a chance.

This morning's excitement is trying to hold one of my rabbits still whilst she gets acupuncture. Wish me luck, I suspect I'll have lost a finger or two by the end of this!
