Week 3 – Keep celebrating the scale and non-scale victories!

Hello Bootcampers and welcome to week 3. Thanks so much to PrettyBird for the previous threads – I hope I can live up to the high standards this week.

Hopefully this WOE (way of eating) is starting to feel easier for you, and you will have seen some good losses in weeks 1 & 2. The exciting thing about week three, is that for those who want to, we can tentatively move into Bootcamp Light.

The key changes are that you can add in some carbier vegetables in moderation, although it is best to stick to those that are 3g carbs per 100g or less for the majority of your vegetable intake. You can add some fruit in the form of berries in moderation, have nuts and seeds in moderation, and can have some alcohol – you guessed it – IN MODERATION. Vodka and soda, dry white wine, or red wine are the best choices. The rules for Bootcamp and Bootcamp Light, along with fruit, veg & nut carb counters are in the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness, kindly organised by SayrraT.

The good thing about Bootcamp Light is that it opens up your menu choices, and hopefully feels sustainable for a lot of people. However don’t be tempted to view this as a free for all – if you suddenly start eating loads of roasted butternut squash, followed by bowlfuls of berries all washed down with a bottle of Prosecco and packet of almonds, it will stall you.

Lots of people find that sticking to Bootcamp during the week, and Bootcamp Light for the weekend works well for them. Others find that they need to stick to Bootcamp in the main, either because their metabolisms can’t cope with the extra carbs (me) or because psychologically they are in the ‘abstainer’ camp (also me) rather than the ‘moderation’ camp. Just do whatever works for you.

Some people find they stall in Weeks 3 and 4, and the initial whooshes of weeks 1 and 2 can quickly become distant memories. Just KOKO (keep on keeping on), celebrate non-scale victories, drink plenty of water, and trust that this will work. Weight loss isn’t always linear, and there are loads of posters on here who have had amazing losses over the last year who are testament that this works in the long term.

So after what feels like an epic OP Grin, good luck on the scale and non-scale victories this week!

prettybird · 22/01/2018 20:29

Meant also to mention I played a bit on the spreadsheet with my starting weight (putting it back to my original starting weight from back in May) and the spreadsheet says I have lost over 20% of my weight back then Shock

I've remembered to out it back my 2018 start weight! Wink

Rshard · 22/01/2018 20:30

I’ll put the paella recipe on the recipe thread, already looking forward to the leftovers tomorrow!

BerylStreep · 22/01/2018 20:31

Wow this is moving fast! I hadn’t even managed to read all of week 2!
Congrats to all those who are doing so well. It is heartening to read.

I however am a very slow loser. I have lost a 1lb apparently so am now only 2 lbs above where I was before Christmas which at least means I am heading back in the right direction!

I am going to stick with bootcamp lite, as trying not to eat 1 or 2 squares of dark chocolate I end up eating too much cheese and at 5ft 1, nearly 54 and peri menopausal the calories probably matter (to me anyway). I am 13:8 now so by my birthday beginning of March I’d like to be in the 12’s which at my pace may not be doable but we’ll see. Then I will re-evaluate what to do from there because I would have 3 stone to go.

prettybird · 22/01/2018 20:49

I do feel better for it. I'm also watching "How to lose weight well" and just asked dh "I never looked that fat, did I?" about the lady who was 14 stone 3lb - and he said, "Yes, you did" BlushShockBlush He then went on to say that at one point it was getting difficult to put his arms around me in bed BlushShockBlush

Twoo · 22/01/2018 20:51

Thank you for your reply Pretty’. That makes total sense.

ilovecherries · 22/01/2018 21:03

The nurse worked out my percentage loss this morning, prettybird. 26%!!!!Blush I'm not sure whether to be delighted or mortified to be honest. And I actually honk I could stand yo lose another two stone, even though I'm only a few pounds from my healthy BMI target. I don't think I will be joining the maintenance thread for a while yet. Blush

ThunderboltsLightning · 22/01/2018 21:06

Great video about LCHF. I find this sort of thing really motivating

headoutofthesand · 22/01/2018 21:13

3lbs off here which means I have lost 8lbs in the past fortnight. Whilst I'm really pleased, that half stone is one I often yo yo around. The next few pounds will be tougher.

I had a bad day today with too much dairy (Total for breakfast; cheese snack; Total for tea (as I had one in the fridge at work and it was that or a banana); another chunk of cheese just now and, worst of all, a biscuit which I had to eat as a lovely client was visiting from overseas & had brought them for me as I had previously mentioned liking them and you can't get them in the UK.

Gail that lunch looks delicious.

Some of these weight loss tales are so inspiring. I'm 10st6 at the moment, my goal is 10st but I would love to get down to 9st4 (mid healthy BMI for me) and this reminds me that it should be possible if I am disciplined and want it enough.

PennyMise · 22/01/2018 21:52

Hello all! Checking in late but have somewhat successfully navigated my little boys bday. No alcohol - one mixing bowl spoon lick yesterday to check the frosting and one small bite of cake today which I immediately found super sweet. So I haven’t been on the straight and narrow but didn’t wobble too badly. Several more bdays coming up in the next few weeks and more confident about stepping away from the sugar.

Can someone please add my weights to the spreadsheet? Starting at 157.5 lb- then 154.3 and now 152.1 (70 kg - 68.4 - 67.6).

Steady progress 😁

Great job, everyone! Thanks for all the support

headoutofthesand · 22/01/2018 21:53

SarryaT I only post using the app and it's a bit much to expect anyone to update the spreadsheet with my details each week so why don't you remove me and I'll just track my weight myself.

nekobus · 22/01/2018 22:07

Well done ilove that's fantastic! Some great tales of weight loss and NSVs on here.

Today's food:
B - creamy coffee and tea with soya milk. Was not v hungry
L - Brussels in butter, with some bacon crumbled on top, found it hard not to eat the whole lot...
D - 2 fried eggs, sausages and some feta
S - babybel, leftover sausages
Water - just about there with 3L if I include the fruit teas!

Wh0KnowsWhereTheT1meG0es · 22/01/2018 22:56

A small NSV from me. Someone mentioned sports bras getting looser the other day. I have one which is like a crop top that zips at the front. When I bought it about 18 months ago I had to wrestle myself into it and it took quite a lot of effort to do the zip up. Tonight I put it on and noticed that it was as easy as popping on a zip front hoody. Might need to buy a new one soon Smile

BerylStreep · 22/01/2018 23:07

ThunderboltsLightning that was an excellent video. So interesting.

PennyMise I have updated the spreadsheet.

My poor DH is at A&E at the moment – likely ruptured achilles. I’m just hanging around waiting for him to call to say he is finished. Sad
