Week 3 – Keep celebrating the scale and non-scale victories!

Hello Bootcampers and welcome to week 3. Thanks so much to PrettyBird for the previous threads – I hope I can live up to the high standards this week.

Hopefully this WOE (way of eating) is starting to feel easier for you, and you will have seen some good losses in weeks 1 & 2. The exciting thing about week three, is that for those who want to, we can tentatively move into Bootcamp Light.

The key changes are that you can add in some carbier vegetables in moderation, although it is best to stick to those that are 3g carbs per 100g or less for the majority of your vegetable intake. You can add some fruit in the form of berries in moderation, have nuts and seeds in moderation, and can have some alcohol – you guessed it – IN MODERATION. Vodka and soda, dry white wine, or red wine are the best choices. The rules for Bootcamp and Bootcamp Light, along with fruit, veg & nut carb counters are in the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness, kindly organised by SayrraT.

The good thing about Bootcamp Light is that it opens up your menu choices, and hopefully feels sustainable for a lot of people. However don’t be tempted to view this as a free for all – if you suddenly start eating loads of roasted butternut squash, followed by bowlfuls of berries all washed down with a bottle of Prosecco and packet of almonds, it will stall you.

Lots of people find that sticking to Bootcamp during the week, and Bootcamp Light for the weekend works well for them. Others find that they need to stick to Bootcamp in the main, either because their metabolisms can’t cope with the extra carbs (me) or because psychologically they are in the ‘abstainer’ camp (also me) rather than the ‘moderation’ camp. Just do whatever works for you.

Some people find they stall in Weeks 3 and 4, and the initial whooshes of weeks 1 and 2 can quickly become distant memories. Just KOKO (keep on keeping on), celebrate non-scale victories, drink plenty of water, and trust that this will work. Weight loss isn’t always linear, and there are loads of posters on here who have had amazing losses over the last year who are testament that this works in the long term.

So after what feels like an epic OP Grin, good luck on the scale and non-scale victories this week!

Nekobus - that's the bread recipe I always use. Yes, Rshard, it needs a 1lb loaf tin, In fact, I just had to buy a replacement, as I've made that loaf so many times all the non-stick had worn off the old one.

H&B also do ground flaxseed, and if you ever go to CostCo they do massive bags of it,

Anyway, I've been steadily plodding along with the low-carbing; good as gold food-wise, although I did a bit of mindful cheating yesterday evening, and had several glasses of prosecco at a party. I did however stick to cheese and salami at the buffet table. The party was fun, but today....oww, my head! I'm not used to it.

All I've eaten so far today is avocado, filled with bacon pieces, salsa, cheese and cream, then grilled. It was so yummy DH and DD1 made some for themselves. I'm now about to drag my sore head into the kitchen to make a curry.

I feed my horse linseed, I buy 20kg for £20 Grin

PennyMise · 28/01/2018 19:05

Just checking in, guys. Some great NSVs!! I’ve been quietly chugging along. Had a good glass of red wine on Thursday, enjoyed it and didn’t want more. Let’s see what tomorrow’s scales bring!

TimbuktuTimbuktu · 28/01/2018 19:13

I am afraid I need to check back in for a beating with the big stick. After not losing anything for 10 days I Hoyt a bit despondent and ended up going a bit mad on Thursday. Loads of sandwiches at a catered lunch thing and then got a McDonald on the way home. Friday was a write off as well.

Back in the zone today and the scales are back to where they were but I just need to start seeing some losses. I really don't want to have to give up dairy!

Rshard · 28/01/2018 20:13

Thanks very much black, pretty and nekobus.

Rshard · 28/01/2018 20:14

Also thanks to cointrea,

Thanks for reply YoLo.

LeapinLizards · 28/01/2018 20:38

I'm reading Charlie & the Chocolate Factory to DS and, my goodness, it's making me CRAAAAVE chocolate. And chocolate isn't even my weakness!

BerylStreep · 28/01/2018 20:39

TimbuktuTimbuktu I think when you have a couple of days of carby twatdom it is just so easy to stay off the rails bitter experience. Just try to put it behind you and keep coming back to the thread. Have you planned food for the next couple of days?

I'm just about to sit down and do my menu planning. This evening I've made some mushroom soup for the coming week.

Hope you’ve all had great weekends. Nearly weigh day. Fingers crossed that there are losses for everyone.

Today’s menu

B - 2 scrambled egg, 2 rasher streaky bacon, piece of cheese.

L - Roast chicken, Brocolli, sprouts, Kale, gravy. Natural yoghurt.

ThunderboltsLightning · 28/01/2018 21:27

Two social events and two carby twatty failures. I'll be daily weighing to face the consequences and hopefully be a cautionary tale to myself.

First one was going out for a friend's birthday. Meeting in a restaurant/bar at 7, for food, or so I thought. Menu looked navigable. Well... we weren't eating - and I hadn't had anything since lunchtime. Ended up tipsy and grabbing a carby takeaway on the way home, in the hope that I would at least fend off a hangover and be in a fit state to attend social occasion 2...

Daytime party. Mentioned to host that we couldn't stay too long as we had an appointment to keep mid afternoon. Host opens the buffet a little early specifically so we can partake. Carbs as far as the eye can see. Disappointingly, i also had a case of the 'fuck its' by then and thought i may as well write off the weekend since i'd fucked up with the takeaway.

Back on it now and meals planned for next week. Sad

Star2018 · 28/01/2018 21:41

I daren't look tomorrow. Period plus big family birthdays. Carbs have swallowed me up again. Argh.

PrincessPeaPod · 28/01/2018 21:42

I messed up this weekend. Big time style. So angry at myself. Fresh day tomorrow. Its not a quick fix diet, its a new lifestyle! I have got to nip these awful days in the bud!

TheWayOfTheWorld · 28/01/2018 21:45

Still feeling pretty grotty but KOKOing.

B: creamy coffee
L: chilli with celeriac rice
D: fathead pizza
S: creamy coffee
W: nearly 3 litres

My usual weigh-in day is a Friday (because it gives me time to undo any weekend damage) but I am trying really hard this time to be strict at the weekend too for the Monday weigh-in.

I need some help though. I have a work lunch on Tuesday and a dim sum place has been booked. I am REALLY struggling to see how I low-carb it. I am seriously considering pulling out of the whole thing...

BerylStreep · 28/01/2018 21:45

ThunderboltsLightning saying 2 Hail BIWIs should be sufficient to absolve your carby twatdom.

OP posts:
BerylStreep · 28/01/2018 21:48

TheWayOfTheWorld very often dim sum places will have pork belly which you can have without sauce. You could also ask for fried chilli squid and request no flour coating. Or shredded duck without the pancake and hoisin.

OP posts:
BumbleBeef30 · 28/01/2018 21:50

B bacon, egg and mushrooms
S ham
L three cheese (cheddar, Red Leicester and goat’s) and courgette omelette
D pork curry
W not enough

ThunderboltsLightning · 28/01/2018 21:56

Thanks @BerylStreep , if only t'were that simple!

Good luck to everyone for weigh in tomorrow!

BIWI · 28/01/2018 21:56

Grin @ hail BIWIs!

I forgive you, my children

BerylStreep · 28/01/2018 22:22

Tomorrow's thread here Is this the new normal? Because it feels great!

OP posts:
GrandOldDukeOfPorkiness · 28/01/2018 22:24

B coffee and bacon
S Brazil nuts and a blue sour string jelly thing (proffered by a beaming child and accepted without thinking because the beam was so enchanting)
L pork and lemongrass balls in lettuce and a Vietnamese chicken salad
D nothing
W disastrous

TimbuktuTimbuktu · 29/01/2018 01:56

I am out for dinner tomorrow as well but I've done my best to plan.

B- avocado and cream cheese
L- celeriac dauphinois and salad
D- going for curry so chicken tikka I would guess.

I do feel like I'm in a better headspace today so hopefully this will be a good week.

TheSeasonOfTheWitch · 29/01/2018 06:31

4 lbs off for me this week, so 8lbs since the beginning of Bootcamp. I'm very happy with that as I had my whoosh before starting here.

I just need to stay on track through pmt horrors over the next few weeks.

Good luck everyone, KOKO!

VenusStarr · 29/01/2018 08:11

Morning all. I'm slowly getting my head around this woe. I thought I'd lost a lb but I'm back up to my start weight today. But my stomach is definitely flatter and not as bloated so that's good. Had lots of water over the weekend.

Today I'm having
B - Greek yoghurt and cheese
L - leftover chicken, salad, more cheese if I want a snack
D - vegetable soup

Going to the gym tonight too

I did wake up at 5 when my partner left for work and my stomach was rumbling. I feel ok now I've had breakfast and it wasn't uncomfortable hunger, think it was thirst

BIWI · 29/01/2018 09:16
