New Year, New Start Week 2: This WoE works!

Welcome to Week 2 - the one where many of us (especially the newbies) will see the biggest drops. For those that don't, the drops will come. We will have seen other benefits too: brighter eyes, smaller waist (with the reduction of dangerous visceral fat from around our organs) - and all without feeling hungry Smile Week 2 is also when I find that my pschological urge to snack reduces.

Remember that you still need to adhere to the Rules. This is not a forgiving Way of Eating and if you cheat, you will set back the process of getting your body to adapt to fat burning. Only one more week of being ultra strict - it is only one more week Smile If you're thinking of cheating, come on here and we will talk you down. It really helps if you are prepared and have low carb snacks with you, or drink some water when you think you are hungry.

Keep drinking the required water ( StuntNun has explained why this is important). Avoid nuts and seeds (unless you are veggie), all fruit (you can look forward to the odd treat of berries from next week) - and no alcohol or artificial sweetender for another week.

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness is here to remind you to keep to the straight and narrow with the Rules and with resources to advise you. You can weigh-in if you choose to, but it is not compulsory. Over the weeks, your weight loss will start to average 1-2lb a week, sometimes more sometimes less .

The Week 1 Spillover thread is here.

NSV today - my boss told me I'm looking a lot more slender since Christmas :) Also, I've discovered I can drink a lot more water if I add a bit of boiling water from the kettle to the top of the pint of water from the tap. I've always been happy to drink tap water, but it's coming out of the tap so cold at the moment it was slowing me down.

Oh and another (probably the most significant) NSV - the neurological issue I have which affects my walking is much less of a problem than it was a couple of weeks ago, strangely enough. I caught myself striding down a long corridor at work today at a much faster pace than usual, and with no pain. I don't know if it's sugar or wheat that causes the issues because of course I've given up both at once, but I won't be investigating which any time soon!!

MumOfAPickle · 16/01/2018 18:25

Just realised I didn't log my food yesterday which I do find helpful so here goes:
B: 2 x boiled eggs
L: chicken drumsticks with salad
D: bolognaise sauce with salad
S: smoked salmon pate with little gem lettuce + yogurt & cream

I realise that is a bit low on veg although the salads were big and included spinach and rocket....

I weighed in yesterday and lost 3lb which I'm thrilled with as I'm not usually a whooshy sort of weight losser. Well done to everyone for getting through the first week, with or without losses, just putting the effort in to stick to it deserves praise.

Today's menu:
B: cloud bread (my first attempt!) with bacon and a slice of cheddar
L: chicken wings with salad
D: lamb curry with broccoli
S: olives, smoked salmon pate with lettuce

Today was the first day I had to try and explain this woe to work colleagues. They're lovely but a nosey bunch, all women and all to one degree or another trying to lose weight/exercise more/eat healthily etc so when someone's doing something different we all want the details. It was fine and most of them more I interested than anything else although I did snap a bit when one of them turned their nose up at my cloud bread! I know it doesn't look very bready but after a week of no bread it really hit the spot!

JingsMahBucket · 16/01/2018 18:29

Checking in to say that I’ve just been a carby twat for dinner. I even put out my low carb food too. I’ll shake it off tomorrow and prep tomorrow’s breakfast tonight so I don’t just eat what I have.

JingsMahBucket · 16/01/2018 18:29

Rather, so I just eat what I have.

BerylStreep · 16/01/2018 19:10

MumofaPickle I’ve learnt from years of having my choices picked apart, judged and sneered at never to discuss what or why I choose to put in my mouth.

If pushed (for example if I’m in a restaurant with colleagues and they see me getting different stuff), I’ll mention that I’m gluten free, but even that often generates 20 questions.

I think people can be funny about food. If you do something different it is almost as if you are suggesting their world view is somehow faulty and people get defensive.

Evening. Koko here - I will get those scales moving in the right direction!

Have been walking my dogs with a local dog-walking group three or four times a week since October (two hours a time, about five miles walked - God knows how far the dogs run in that time) but this week there is a walk every day that we can get to, so I've booked us on them all. Today was by the river and through woods, tomorrow on the North Yorkshire moors (hilly) and then a couple of beach walks and an old railway track. Weather permitting, of course. I'm finding it much easier now to do the distance than I did a couple of months ago, though hills are still a bit of a killer. Not looking forward to tomorrow's, really, but it's got to be done. (Maybe praying for snow just a little bit so I can call it off...)

B: Heck sausages and mushrooms
L: -
D: Celeriac mash and Marmite sprouts

Not feeling hungry at all during the day, despite the walking, and not tempted at all to snack between meals. This feels like a massive achievement, as I used to be able to snack for England. (Which is why I need to be doing this now, of course Grin)

ilovecherries · 16/01/2018 19:40

Just checking in :). Having a lovely holiday, though very, very cold, and I need so many more clothes than I did last winter. We had to do a smash and grab to the nearest M&S today for (more) heatgen under layers. Getting to the loo requires a lot of 'pull this up/pull this down/pull this up/THEN pull this down etc etc. Also needed an emergency puffa to go under my gortex - never needed anything like THAT before. Foodwise, sticking to plan - no aberrations to confess! Keep going everyone!

headoutofthesand · 16/01/2018 19:52

Aaahhh!!! Meeting today with a working lunch. I had been so good avoiding the pastries when we started, the cake & biscuits at break and just drinking water as there was only normal milk to have with tea & coffee. And then the sandwiches appear for lunch. Nothing but sandwiches and crisps and a few veggie sticks. It's fine, I think, I have heard you, I can just extract the filling. Except that all of the fillings are things like tuna mayo, egg mayo and other squidgey things, there is no cutlery and napkins rather than plates. I took 1/2 the veggies (did go up last so didn't feel bad doing this) and then took three wraps rather than sandwiches and unpeeled as much spare wrap as I could. I'm about to go & have a bowl of sprouts as I can feel my body calling out for green veg. On a positive, I did drink a lot of water.

cathyandclare · 16/01/2018 19:54

Well done all, some great losses. I managed to regain 2 lb of bloat after weighing in so drinking loads of fluid to try and flush it out. I'm doing more weight training so hoping it's just my bulging biceps!! DH is away so my food is v dull at the moment, I struggle to motivate myself;
B: Creamy coffee
L: Egg and mushroom muffin
S: Chicken, celery, salad, sour cream

Rshard · 16/01/2018 20:01

Popping in to log my food
B - total ff yoghurt vanilla powder
L - ham cheese salad mayo
D - hm fish pie (filling only) made with creme fraiche veg

Twoo · 16/01/2018 20:10

SayrrT. That landscape looks so lovely 😊

I’ve stuck to plan 100%. Totally KoKo La Vida. I hope I will be rewarded handsomely for my commitment & patience Grin

B - 2 egg mayo

L - Game Terrine & broccoli

D - Pork steak, celeriac mash & sprouts.

S - Coffee with cream

Water on target

Twoo · 16/01/2018 20:13

SayrraT · 16/01/2018 20:15

twoo its even deeper now!

I love snow, if it stays like this I'm going sledging tomorrow Grin

Accidentally discovered that Tesco korma ready meal is only 8.6g carbs (per portion). Not great but if you need something quick it might be good to know.

Sounds a great idea SayrrT, might as well enjoy your unexpected time off work.

ilovecherries · 16/01/2018 20:38

Twoo, fancy spa type resort in north of Scotland. :). We have a gorgeous self catering unit, with its own sauna, hot tub etc :). And a better equipped kitchen than I have at home! I arranged a big Tesco shop to be delivered the day we arrived, and the butcher in the village is amazing - apparently all the meat lived and was slaughtered within 10 miles. Last night we had the best lamb cutlets I've ever tasted, today we are just about to eat roast pork.

Twoo · 16/01/2018 20:53

My oh my Cherries that’s my kind of holiday !

Rshard · 16/01/2018 20:53

Sounds gorgeous ilovecherries

SayrraT · 16/01/2018 20:53

Ooh, sounds nice cherries have you got snow?

Alwaysinmyheart · 16/01/2018 21:08

Re curry, chicken tikka masala is a good one to make as it has both yoghurt and cream!

No rice or naans tho ☹️

nekobus · 16/01/2018 21:15

Sounds lovely cherries! Enjoy!

Today's food:
B - babybel, tea & soya, coffee with a little ss milk (was out)
L - chicken salad with feta and lots of dressing
D - heck sausages, celeriac mash, broccoli and buttered sprouts (lush!! Had to check back on last week's thread to see how to do them in microwave- so easy! I could have eaten the whole bag...)
S - a few slices of chicken, tiny bag of pork scratchings (I have several 7g bags from an advent calendar I forgot about during actual advent Grin)

Feeling v full now, have manage 2 of 3L of water, I'm trying to get another 750 in me before bed!

RaindropsAndSparkles · 16/01/2018 21:54

I can't keep up with the thread. Just home from work - well half hour in.

Heating and hw banged out yesterday (back now). So this morning could only fancy a slice of chicken as i made lunch (after my strip wash thanks to a boiled kettle).

Chicken salad for lunch.
2.5 litres water
Had some cheese and coleslaw.
Not hungry.
Having a mint tea.
