New Year, New Start Week 2: This WoE works!

Welcome to Week 2 - the one where many of us (especially the newbies) will see the biggest drops. For those that don't, the drops will come. We will have seen other benefits too: brighter eyes, smaller waist (with the reduction of dangerous visceral fat from around our organs) - and all without feeling hungry Smile Week 2 is also when I find that my pschological urge to snack reduces.

Remember that you still need to adhere to the Rules. This is not a forgiving Way of Eating and if you cheat, you will set back the process of getting your body to adapt to fat burning. Only one more week of being ultra strict - it is only one more week Smile If you're thinking of cheating, come on here and we will talk you down. It really helps if you are prepared and have low carb snacks with you, or drink some water when you think you are hungry.

Keep drinking the required water ( StuntNun has explained why this is important). Avoid nuts and seeds (unless you are veggie), all fruit (you can look forward to the odd treat of berries from next week) - and no alcohol or artificial sweetender for another week.

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness is here to remind you to keep to the straight and narrow with the Rules and with resources to advise you. You can weigh-in if you choose to, but it is not compulsory. Over the weeks, your weight loss will start to average 1-2lb a week, sometimes more sometimes less .

The Week 1 Spillover thread is here.

Hi.
Last weeks thread I mentioned I'm pregnant. I'm going to follow boot camp lite but only real difference I can see is I can have a few nuts. and a little fruit(strawberries raspberries etc) and I can drink a little alcohol. (Which obviously I can't). So is that the only difference. Have I missed anything?

mamapama · 16/01/2018 22:18

Lost 7lb last week, I am drinking the target amount of water, but still feel quite thirsty a lot of the time. Is there a reason for this?

Pumpkintopf · 16/01/2018 23:10

@mamapama there's a brilliant post from @StuntNun on the last thread about the water thing - to summarise if you're constantly thirsty you're flushing out too many electrolytes and need more salt in your diet, but do read the post, it's brilliant. I had exactly the same problem as you beforehand!

Alwaysinmyheart · 16/01/2018 23:11

Did someone previously say it's because you're not getting enough salt? Don't quote me on this tho!

Alwaysinmyheart · 16/01/2018 23:19

Haha x post!

Wh0KnowsWhereTheT1meG0es · 16/01/2018 23:20

I can't keep up but Prettybird, yes, I have a stash of Lidl protein rolls in the freezer. They're not the nicest bread in the workd by a long way but better than nothing and as you say a useful vehicle for butter which I am only using for frying at the moment.

I have been eating marmite and pork scratchings to up my salt a bit, I got one of those squeezy Marmites and am squirting a bit over my morning omelette. Also found a jar of anchovies which I love, they can go in salads. Weirdly, although I don't like salt added to cooking I am very partial to little salty things such as salted peanuts, anchovies, olives, lumps of parmesan, but I don't want to snack too much either, so need to be careful of that.

TheWayOfTheWorld · 16/01/2018 23:29

Sounds like a lovely holiday cherries

I've survived day 1 of 4.
B: 2 poached eggs, sausage, bacon
L: steak and salad
D: 3 cold sausages (that I had in my snack stash) and 2 rollitos
S: 3 rollitos
W: 2.5 litres

Turned down pudding at lunch, muffin and wine etc on the plane and now going to try and get some 😴 I know it is not great due to lack of veg etc but tomorrow is another day.

prettybird · 16/01/2018 23:33

IntelligentPutty - StuntNun is the best one to advise (along with other Boot Campers who've been there, done that) but iirc, you can choose to have carbier veg as well. Plus in the first trimester in particular you might find you need/crave extra carbs.

All the best! FlowersBear

ilovecherries - I'm well jell Envy Scotland is beautiful in winter but can be soooo cold. At least you were able to buy smaller extra layers, that's should still fit you even once you've reached target, as it won't matter if they are wee bit big.

Twoo - Star for KOKO

cathyandclare - are you sure you are eating enough? Doesn't look like much at all. You don't want to go into starvation mode.

abbey44 - similarly, you don't look like you are eating much at all. I know you're desperate to get the scales moving.

If you are genuinely not hungry, maybe think about trying intermittent fasting (eg 16:8) to get your metabolism going.

Jings - you know what's coming......Wink...........yes....... It's.......the Big Stick. You know better. Your dh (iirc, he is also doing Boot Camp) may be able to cope with a wee bit of going off-piste. He's a bloke. Our female fat cells are much more susceptible to off-piste dangers.

It doesn't even sound like you mindfully enjoyed your carbs; your own description suggests that you fell face first into carby twatdom.

twomuchicecream - 2 really good NSVs. I also find I can't drink water that is too cold, so in winter, I pour myself a pint glass of water and let it stand.

PennyMise - I think coconut milk is allowed (it's not actually a nut Confused) - but do check the carbs on the packaging as I seem to recall they can vary.

TheSeasonOfTheWitch - like Jings .......you know what's coming ..... and you mustn't duck it...... the Big Stick. Why did you cave, when you've been doing so well?

It's really helped me be focussed for this Boot Camp and not slip up, because I've been running the Boot Camp threads. Technically, as a long term Boot Camper, I'm already fat-adapted, so should need the strict first 2 weeks. But somehow I'd feel like I was letting you lot down! Halo .....so don't let me down Wink

Wise words from @prettybird!

Please don’t cheat! We’re only in week 2, and it’s especially important that you don’t cheat now. All you’re doing is making it take longer for your body to switch to burning fat rather than carbs.

prettybird · 17/01/2018 00:36

Bet you're not having this sort of weather @BIWI - picture taken by dh at 10.45 this evening Shock

Big accident along our (quiet, wide, straight) road: passed it about 5 minutes apparently after it happened (I'm very glad I stopped off at the ATM & fruitlessly popped into the supermarket to get some spring onions for the stir fry for supper) at 7.15; there were 2 fire engines and 2 ambulances still there at 10.30 Shock (One ambulance at least only came along at 10.15) It looks like a car couldn't stop on the road (short but steep and lethal in icy weather) that crosses our road and took out a car going along our road and sent one or other of them into a stone wall - and both cars needing to be cut open Shock Blue lights of the ambulance can be seen at the side of the 2nd picture.

I'm pretty sure I messed up yesterday although accidentally. I had ate out for lunch and dinner and both salads had quite a lot of carby veg between them and the sauce on the chicken must have had sugar as I definitely wasn't in ketosis this morning and was starving! Sorted itself out by lunchtime though.

Today was better and I even managed dinner at Ed's diner without diving into carbs. I did have a small 70% hotel chocolat penguin so I'm deserving of at least a small whack from the big stick. I did savour it mindfully though.

My mouth tastes disgusting at the moment and I am really struggling with that. Must drink more water I guess. Is there anything else I can do. I know it will pass in week or so but in the meantime?

Well done on everyone's losses and well done @TheWayOfTheWorld I hope you have an amazing trip!

TimbuktuTimbuktu · 17/01/2018 00:41

Oh no @prettybird I hope everyone was ok.

The snow looks so beautiful though.

abbey44 · 17/01/2018 00:54

Thanks prettybird - I've been eating breakfast at about 8-ish and dinner at 6, so maybe I'll try and bring them a bit closer to get to the 16:8. It maybe doesn't look like much when I write it down, but I'm not skimping on portions and I'm really not feeling hungry between meals. My blood sugars are good too (apart from that blip the other day), which I'm happy with.

The moral support and advice on here is incredibly helpful - thank you to everyone Smile

abbey44 · 17/01/2018 00:57

Oh, cross-posted...that accident sounds awful, hope everyone will be ok.

SayrraT · 17/01/2018 07:02

Oh no pretty I'm not even attempting to go to work today. We had more snow over night and it was about 4 inches when I went to bed.

Lucky me!

penny if you mean the coconut milk/cream in a tin or wee carton then yes. I'm not sure about milk so check but I think the stuff you can buy as a drink (clear) is too carby. I might be wrong so check individual packs.

BlackMozart · 17/01/2018 07:12

Well I got up an hour early to make sure I could catch up on the 10 pages here!! prettybird thanks for the reminder to get over onto this thread 😊
Great to hear everyone’s news. I am just koko’ing and I’m going to have to weigh myself at some point otherwise I am just being a bit aimless really.
Back to my course now. Starting with a bit of Tai Chi I think.
I can’t fully keep up on here but I am reading every post. Well done all. 👏

TheSeasonOfTheWitch · 17/01/2018 07:13

Prettybird I hope everyone is ok this morning

I ate them because my husband is an incredible cook, I actually resisted the family risotto the night before, then he made them into arancini last night. My children normally adore them and gobble them up, but didn't yesterday and they were sitting there.... and the lemon tart was a birthday dessert, I literally just had about a 2cm square.

However I've barely slept with the headache from hell all night. I was surprised at the reaction, and a few mouthfuls of something is definitely not worth the night I've just had! Especially now that I'm also smarting from the stick.

I need to have more easy grab veg around, and some emergency cans of tuna, I might change our veg box variety or try and add salad bags.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 17/01/2018 07:24

Will read the thread later, but just need to be accountable for a moment.

Food has been perfect, as has water, but I cracked and had two glasses of sherry yesterday. Have spent all night awake wanting to be sick but not managing it - which may or may not be related to the alcohol but certainly feels like divine punishment.

Sorry, people Blush

PrincessPeaPod · 17/01/2018 07:25

Morning all! I have a hideous cold and have no energy. Really struggling this morning. All I can think of is having thick white toasted bread and jam. I feel like today is not going to be fun. Sad

Gammeldragz · 17/01/2018 08:11

Ate far too much yesterday...

Breakfast - sausages, kale and sprout stir fry.
Lunch - olives and feta
Dinner - 2 small h/m sausage rolls (

Gammeldragz · 17/01/2018 08:13

princess that sounds rotten, I can promise you toast won't help though. Hope you feel better soon.

MaudesMum · 17/01/2018 08:18

Had to go to London yesterday for meetings & stuff. I had an avocado, chicken and avocado salad for lunch and M&S rollitos and pork scratchings whilst hanging around at the station waiting for a late train home. I avoided biscuits at a meeting, and swerved a can of g&t for the train journey. So, all good, but when I got home I couldn't face preparing any veg so to go with another piece of cheese I ate a handful of nuts, which I know aren't allowed at this stage. There weren't that many, as they were shelled which slowed me down (leftover from Christmas) - so maybe 3 walnuts, 1 almond and 6-8 hazelnuts. On the NSV side, I could just about squeeze into a medium sized pair of trousers at Uniglo - a year ago I knew there was no point in even entering the shop...

MaudesMum · 17/01/2018 08:21

2nd avocado in my salad was actually egg in case anyone was thinking it was a very avocado heavy salad... From a place called Pod btw in case anyone is seeking out low carb food in That London.

Twoo · 17/01/2018 08:23

Pretty’ I hope everyone is ok. Your photos look very pretty Smile. I just love s snowy scene. Thank you for doing boot camp with us all when you perhaps didn’t need too too.

Sayrra’ hope you and yours ok. Just seen on BBC news online that motorways closed at your next of the woods and motorists stranded overnight.

Twoo · 17/01/2018 08:26

Thank you Pretty’ I’ve only just seen I was awarded a Gold Star Star . Thank you! My first one since infant school Grin
