New Year, New Start Week 2: This WoE works!

Welcome to Week 2 - the one where many of us (especially the newbies) will see the biggest drops. For those that don't, the drops will come. We will have seen other benefits too: brighter eyes, smaller waist (with the reduction of dangerous visceral fat from around our organs) - and all without feeling hungry Smile Week 2 is also when I find that my pschological urge to snack reduces.

Remember that you still need to adhere to the Rules. This is not a forgiving Way of Eating and if you cheat, you will set back the process of getting your body to adapt to fat burning. Only one more week of being ultra strict - it is only one more week Smile If you're thinking of cheating, come on here and we will talk you down. It really helps if you are prepared and have low carb snacks with you, or drink some water when you think you are hungry.

Keep drinking the required water ( StuntNun has explained why this is important). Avoid nuts and seeds (unless you are veggie), all fruit (you can look forward to the odd treat of berries from next week) - and no alcohol or artificial sweetender for another week.

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness is here to remind you to keep to the straight and narrow with the Rules and with resources to advise you. You can weigh-in if you choose to, but it is not compulsory. Over the weeks, your weight loss will start to average 1-2lb a week, sometimes more sometimes less .

The Week 1 Spillover thread is here.

Just popping in to report a SV - 210 on the nose this morning, lowest I've seen since I started LCHF. It's not a large loss this BC so far (3 lbs) but I am having the period from hell so hoping for more once that's done with.

And an NSV where a pair of trousers I bought last summer and which I couldn't do up are now loose Grin

SayrraT · 17/01/2018 08:55

Well done OldBooks both on the scales and non-scale victory.

Yes twoo all OK here, I'm having another snow day! I'm very lucky that I can choose to do that, my boss is also having a snow day too.

Thought you were a bit keen on the avocado maude Grin

BerylStreep · 17/01/2018 09:11

Morning all!

I have turned a corner with my hideous flu. Still not great, but much better. Silver lining is that I have lost even more on the scales since weigh in day!

I am now 92.4kg (203lb). That is half a stone since the start of this boot camp and over a stone since 18 November 2017 when I started the last BC.

Next goal is to break through the 200lb mark and into the 100s. When I think how much I have struggled over the last year with the same 2-3 kilos (and feeling so awful), and now it seems so easy 😊

Thanks so much to BIWI, Prettybird, Sayrra and Stuntnun in particular for the threads, spreadsheet, science and support

littleladylawyer · 17/01/2018 09:39

Well done OldBooks and BerylStreep!

I've been KOKO and sticking to the plan, but looking forward to adding in the extras next week mostly wine and gin

I would really like to tone up this year, as although I'm healthy weight wise I'm all soft and squishy. Can anyone recommend a good workout dvd/ programme that I could do say three times a week at home? There are so many I don't know where to start Confused

prettybird · 17/01/2018 09:55

littleladylawyer - I use the Jillian Michaels' "The Shred": it claims just to be 20 minutes but by the time you add in the warm-up and warm-down (and recovery before you shower Wink), it's 25+ minutes.

I've also got her "Ripped in 30" DVD, which I alternate, changing over when I've completed all the levels.

PrincessPeaPod - as Ragz says, you won't actually feel better for the toast. In fact, you'll feel worse. Resist!

Athelstane - divine retribution it is Grin Sherry is one of the worst drinks to have, as in addition to the alcohol it is also high in carbs Shock So no wonder you feel bad Hmm

Checking in belatedly - things are going much better this week. Thanks so much for the advice on last thread. Will try to rtft today and catch up with everyone but I’ve got a bit of a problem and wanted to ask if anyone else had found similar: on this WOE I am losing weight but DH is getting fat! He has always been very skinny - was actually underweight when we first met - but after a trip to use some Christmas clothing vouchers where he only fitted into Ls and XLs yesterday he weighed himself and has put on two stone since last October when I started bootcamp, and is now officially overweight Confused. I do all the cooking (he hates it and isn’t very good - he’s perfectly competent at brown food or pasta etc but nothing very interesting - whereas I mostly enjoy it) and have just been cooking HFLC meals, but he’s been wanting carbs as well, so I’ve been doing chips or mash or baked potatoes etc for him. SO essentially he’s been eating HFHC since October, which is obviously the problem. I’ve suggested he just does he rest of boot camp with me but he thinks (and is probably right) he’d never manage to eat enough veg (he only likes broccoli, sweet corn, peas and green beans). So is it just down to paw patrol? I’m quite unwilling to start cooking two totally separate meals as I already cook separately for fusspot DS1. Or should I tell him to revert to his pre-marriage diet of frozen ready meals, cold baked beans and cigarettes, which had him hovering around the 9 stone mark...?

Alwaysinmyheart · 17/01/2018 10:01

I had a sneaky weigh in this morning. Am not supposed to weigh myself till Sat on DP's digital scales as we are both dieting and his scales are more accurate, but I stood on them today and it said 11stone, which is a 4lb loss since Saturday! Am so pleased, I've been slowly gaining weight since April when we met and was not happy about it. He loves to bake and makes great bread, cakes and biscuits and I've got into it too, but it really doesn't agree with my waistline!

KOKO everyone, this WOE really does work😀

AveAtqueVale · 17/01/2018 10:02

‘Paw patrol’ should read ‘portion control’. No prizes for guessing what DS is currently watching Blush.

Alwaysinmyheart · 17/01/2018 10:09

AveAtqueVale that's a tricky one! The two definitely don't go together do they? The only thing I can suggest is he cuts back on the carbs, has smaller portions or does more exercise to compensate. My DP is doing Slimming World and when we are together we have to find meals that we can both eat. Last weekend he made a beef stew, I added extra cream to mine and had it with cauliflower whilst he had his with rice. Hopefully someone else may have some good ideas for you?

prettybird · 17/01/2018 10:35

AveAtqueVale - do you think he could cope with "Boot Camp" with the veg that he does eat and added fruit (even non Boot Camp compatible fruit)? Blokes are less sensitive to a small amount of carbs - but I agree, I'd be worried about your dh's HFHC diet.

I have some of the same concern with my dh - but his carbs have also reduced as a consequence of the fact that many of the meals I make are now fully Boot Camp compatible - and he likes them. (In others, he gets added oven chips, rice or roast potatoes).

What about yoga littleladylawyer? I’ve been doing 30 days of yoga with Adriene on YouTube. It’s really good

ThunderboltsLightning · 17/01/2018 11:15

Gaaahh i am bang on the stone barrier this morning. Just a fraction of a pound to go Grin

Roast chicken with creamy celeriac mash and brocolli cheese last night

Leftover chicken with brussels today. Think i'll have pork steak, green beans and cauli cheese tonight.

TheSeasonOfTheWitch · 17/01/2018 11:19

Right! I'm on it!!! Breakfast was 2 cups of coffee with cream, 2 fried eggs, spinach, asparagus, spring onions and a little grated Parmesan. It all came in at 4g of carbs, so I'm delighted and stuffed.

New Year, New Start Week 2: This WoE works!
TimeIhadaNameChange · 17/01/2018 11:23

AveAtqueVale - could you make the meals more in the middle for the most part of the cooking process, and then split them at the end? For example, if you were making veg in a cheese sauce you could hold back the cream and some of the cheese to start with, serve his with pasta and then add cream and more cheese to yours. Or steam some veg and then melt butter over yours, and serve his with potatoes?

That's what I'm doing most of the time. The other day I made Fathead pizza (I know it's not BC, but I'd been fancying it for ages and only just got round to buying mozzarella, plus I never eat nuts otherwise as I can't stand them, so no risk of me falling down there). Served half to DP with normal garlic bread, whilst I had a salad with mine.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 17/01/2018 11:26

littleladylawyer - Couch25K. Either out on the streets or on a treadmill (or, possibly, a mini trampoline). A few months ago I'd have told you I hate running. Now I can't wait for my next session. I ran 3k this morning, non-stop, not including the beginning and ending walks and am so chuffed with myself. I am, no doubt, the slowest runner ever but I don't care!

Wh0KnowsWhereTheT1meG0es · 17/01/2018 11:33

What was the fathead pizza like Time? I have seen it mentioned before but the name is so off-putting I really haven't fancied trying it.

Mimosa1 · 17/01/2018 11:36

@TimeIhadaNameChange I'm going to try week 1 this weekend. I have never been able to run but want to! How long did it take you to complete the programme?

I had the prepared Ocado celeriac "rice" as a side dish last night. It's so good! DH and I shared half a pack so 3g carbs per portion and kept the rest for this evening. For lunch, i had a Mexican burrito salad without the wrap, rice or beans, and extra lettuce, green peppers, guacamole, cheese and pork belly from Chilango - so delicious! I'm enjoying eating proper food.

TheSeasonOfTheWitch · 17/01/2018 11:37

Mimosa are the ingredients for the celeriac rice just celeriac or do they put flour or corn start in?

TheSeasonOfTheWitch · 17/01/2018 11:38

Starch not start!

weebarra · 17/01/2018 12:06

I know this WOE is not about the numbers, but as of next week is there a daily maximum carbage we should be under? And what about "carbs Xg, carbs that sugar Xg"?

Alwaysinmyheart · 17/01/2018 12:10

The fathead pizza is quite nice, there is a v slight taste of coconut but I put some garlic salt in the dough to mask it! It’s a good pizza substitute and v filling.

SayrraT · 17/01/2018 12:16

There is no difference between carbs and carbs which sugar (they all end up as sugar). There is no limit on this but as a guide I think below 50g per day. Some people have discovered that they cannot go too low but others are not affected.

littleladylawyer · 17/01/2018 12:24

Thanks TimeIhadaNameChange, Rshard and Prettybird. I have to say I hate running, but have previously enjoyed yoga and toning workouts. I'm going skiing in feb and with my current black of muscle going to struggle to lift my poles let alone the skis and boots!

AveAtqueVale I also do all the cooking, and have found I can prepare most meals then add a carbs element (rice/pasta/potatoes) to DPs and add fat to mine at the end, mostly cheese or butter. I do try to eat more fatty foods at lunchtime so I still get enough and can avoid having to make the shared elements of dinner too high fat for him.

Someone at work has brought back loads of Japanese cookies, chocolates and sweets from a holiday. I'm not that tempted as they look really artificial, but it's interesting how much smaller they are than the sweet treats sold in the UK. A cookie is about the size of a pound coin!

TimeIhadaNameChange · 17/01/2018 12:25

Mimosa - I started C25K mid-November. I had three weeks off over Christmas (1st week ill, then two weeks where I'd have had to cycle to the gym and I couldn't be bothered! - there's no way I'm running outdoors just now, not least as that would mean having to carry water with me so I just do it on the treadmill). Other than that I've been doing the three sessions each week and did my first run of week 7 this morning. Felt awful first thing, didn't think I'd slept much (though my notafitbit claimed otherwise) and was full of the cold, but I went anyway and plodded my way through the run. Was really pleased I managed it.

I can assure you it won't take you long at all. 30 mins running might seem a ridiculous proposition to you just now, but trust me, in 9 weeks' time it will seem like the most natural thing in the world to be considering!

TimeIhadaNameChange · 17/01/2018 12:32

Wh0Knows - I really like the pizzas. This version, which is almond not coconut-based, is the one I use, and despite my not liking almonds, I find it really yummy.

I has taken a few attempts to get right. Do NOT attempt to cook on foil, as you will be either eating foil or spending the next few hours trying to get it off the base. I wanted to use my silicon liner last time but couldn't find it, so used oiled parchment (the oil was OTT but I'm still scarred by the foil!). You want the base thin, but not too thin.

I ended up bringing half in to work for dinner at one point last year. I was going to reheat it in the microwave but couldn't be bothered, and was surprised to find it was really nice cold, too.

DP's comment last Friday was that it went well with his glass of red wine! So hopefully any non-BCing partners will be just as satisfied as he was!
