Me please.
I was on the last one then fell off the wagon, experienced awful tummy problems and was tested for coeliacs so had to keep eating gluten. Haven't managed to get back into the LCHF way since which is silly because I feel so much better when I'm on it

Wineandrosesagain · 05/05/2016 11:48

I'd like to join to - if someone could add me please? I lost 3 stones on the last bootcamp but still have a lot to lose and I seem to have plateaued.

Preparing for Bootcamp

To maximise likely success, it's really important to plan ahead. Low carbing isn't the easiest way to eat - the world isn't made for low carbers, although things are slowly changing! (I walked past a cafe this morning which had a board outside advertising its low carb breakfast of baked eggs!)

But what does planning ahead mean?

  1. Read the Bootcamp rules - [[https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Vwh_9-y9ejMjg_sFMCK38uoPqZZFps39T7RY-VdUaI8/edit?pref=2&pli=1#gid=0 if you look at the OP of this thread, there's a link to the spreadsheet, and the rules are on one of the tabs at the bottom. (There are also rules for vegetarians too)
  1. Get rid of any carby temptations that you have in the house. If there aren't biscuits in the cupboard, you're not going to eat them!
  1. Instead, buy yourself lots of things that you will be able to eat - and particularly make sure that you have some low carb snacks available for the first few days (e.g. cheese, olives, low carb snacks veg like cucumber and celery
  1. Meal plan. Even if you don't normally do this, you'll find it really helpful if you know what you're going to cook, and have all the right ingredients to hand - so go shopping for all your low carb stuff once you've created a meal plan.
  1. Read the Bootcamp recipe thread for inspiration - it's stickied at the top of the Bootcamp topic
  1. Have a look at your work and social calendar to see what events are coming up, where you might find it hard to low carb. It's especially important in the first two weeks, which are supposed to be the strictest, that you really do stick to it. If you know you have a meeting or a dinner coming up, you can plan around it.
  1. If you travel a lot for work, as I do, work out where you can buy good low carb food/meals. If you're lucky enough to have a Leon close by (there are lots of them in London, often in main railway stations) they do some good low carb things - their poached egg pots are brilliant for breakfast. And on their website they give really good, clear nutritional information so you can work out how many carbs are in their dishes. Otherwise, M&S Food usually has something you can buy - sliced cooked meats, hard boiled egg and spinach pots, individual servings of cheese, etc. They do a couple of salads that are low carb too, although most of them do have some kind of carb element in, sadly.
  1. And the obvious one - weigh yourself! You don't have to put your weight on the spreadsheet if you don't want to, but it's important that you know what your starting weight is. Alternatively, you can index your weight loss, so you can put 100 as your starting weight and then subtract 1 for every pound you lose.

Another good way to start off is by measuring yourself - or by trying on something that's currently (a bit) too tight for you. Nothing measures your progress more accurately than your wardrobe!

  1. Read up about low carbing. There are lots of resources linked to on the spreadsheet - books, blogs, websites and videos - and this will help you to understand the science behind this way of eating. The more you know, the more you'll feel happier with what you're doing. If you've never low carbed before, it can seem like a huge leap of faith. How can I eat all that fat and not gain weight?! You may also need to defend what you're doing from other people, who don't understand low carbing, and call you out because you're eating fat.

You'll also come to understand that the benefits of low carbing go way beyond just weight loss - there are significant longer term health benefits.

  1. But most importantly, come and post on the threads each week! Share your experiences and ask any questions that you have - the support we give each other is a major factor in helping people to succeed.

I'm in. I lost 18 pounds in the last one but have stalled the past few weeks so need to get back on the straight and narrow!

Thanks for the prep BIWI Smile

MushroomTree · 05/05/2016 18:31

Count me in please! Generally sticking to LC but need a kick up the bum for shift the final half stone (ish).

BIWI · 05/05/2016 19:54

One thing I should also say, as we start to prepare ourselves for Bootcamp - if you have any kind of medical condition that means you're on long term medication, please talk to your GP about following a low carb diet.

This is particularly key if you're taking medication for your blood pressure. You should find that low carbing will reduce your blood pressure, which could mean that you end up with a dosage that's too high for you.

If you're pregnant, or breastfeeding, don't do strict Bootcamp, but do Bootcamp Light, which allows you more carbs.

And finally - but perhaps most importantly! - I also need to post my usual disclaimer:

I am not a doctor or a nurse. I am not a nutritionist or a dietician. I have no medical training whatsoever. The things that I post on Bootcamp are based on the books that I have read, blogs and articles by other low carbers and my own experience

Me too please! Another one coming back to this after a year, I did really well on it last time and loved feeling less driven by food

SayrraT · 05/05/2016 21:30

Hello pisses Grin

AuntieMaggie · 05/05/2016 21:41

Can someone add me too please?

SoMuchToBits · 05/05/2016 21:45

I'm thinking about joining, but BIWI, please can you come and answer the questions I've posted on another thread in this topic?

I started low carbing last week, but wanted a bit of advice, and to check I'm doing roughly ok so far. Thank you!

BIWI · 05/05/2016 22:08

Sorry SoMuch - which thread was that?

OP posts:
SoMuchToBits · 05/05/2016 22:29

I put your name in the title, it's in the low carb bootcamp topic. Asking for help for a novice low carber...

RainbowHash · 05/05/2016 22:39

Would love to join too - do I just add my name to the list? Have lost half a stone just doing LC/MFP but is going more slowly now. Would
lile to lose just over another stone. Currently 80kg but want to be 70kg. Am 5'8". Am exercising bit more too. Have an underactive thyroid (on 100mg thyroxine) but have a suspicion this will be very good for me.

artlessflirt · 06/05/2016 07:43

I'm in!

I have no idea how to add my name? Do we just copy and paste the list and add on?

WilliamItWasReallyNothing · 06/05/2016 09:34

Me too please! I've been low-carbing for 2 weeks but I think boot camp will help keep me motivated.

tinybellows · 06/05/2016 10:42

im in please. Need to lose a stone and been thinking about LCing so this has come at the perfect time.

me! I've managed to pile on all the weight I lost in the last BC after falling off the wagon. So much fluctuation can't be good for my health and it certainly isn't good for my MH..
