Sorry keepon, didn't see your post before mine. There is the whole carb flu thing which I'm sure affects everyone in different ways usually in first couple of weeks. I hope what you are feeling is temporary Thanks

Been reading a lot that carb/keto flu is usually down to low electrolytes. Try something salty? I like a big gals of icy water with cucumber slices, lime juice and salt.

On a low carb diet you need much more salt than you'd think. I'll find a resource.

authoritynutrition.com/5-most-common-low-carb-mistakes/

One of the main mechanisms behind low-carb diets is a reduction in insulin levels (3, 4).

Insulin has many functions in the body, such as telling fat cells to store fat.

But another thing that insulin does is to tell the kidneys to hold on to sodium (5).

On a low-carb diet, your insulin levels go down and your body starts shedding excess sodium and water along with it. This is why people often get rid of excess bloat within a few days of low-carb eating.

However, sodium is a crucial electrolyte in the body and this can become problematic when the kidneys dump too much of it.

This is one of the main reasons people get side effects on low-carb diets… such as lightheadedness, fatigue, headaches and even constipation.

The best way to circumvent this issue is to add more sodium to your diet. You can do this by adding more salt to your foods, but if that doesn’t suffice then you can drink a cup of broth every day.

I personally like adding a bouillon cube into a cup of hot water, then drinking it like a soup in a cup. It actually tastes really good and supplies 2 grams of sodium.

Bottom Line: Low-carb diets lower insulin levels, which makes the kidneys excrete excess sodium from the body. This can lead to a mild sodium deficiency.

Good idea, have a count just to check. When you cook everything from scratch you get so much less than you'd think and if you are exercising and drinking the water you should be it's really easy to get depleted.

Day 2, Uber BC

Ok sticking to the script today but mixing from the 3 menu's:

B - smoked salmon, scr eggs, 2 x tea with unsweetened almond milk
S - hot marmite with tsp of butter
L - tuna hm mayo, lettuce, cucumber, celery w butter as not much cucumber left
D - hm lamb burgers (not beef as per menu as already had the mince in the freezer), lettuce to wrap, hm coleslaw and celeriac chips - it's cooking now, can't wait am very much looking forward to it, quite hungry now.

Was tempted several times to have a nibble at cheese or choc but so far have avoided doing so

Wombatinabathhat · 01/03/2016 17:16

Well done Lex I hope you get your reward of a whoosh

Wombatinabathhat · 01/03/2016 17:22

Neko I think the metallic taste is usually associated with ketones. Are you drinking enough water?

BIWI · 01/03/2016 19:02

Well done Nigella!

Yes, I meant watch out for the potential for your inner carby twat to re-emerge when/if you get hungry!

Keepon - definitely worth trying to have more salt. You should be cooking with it and adding it to your food. Also make sure your other electrolytes are being supplied (magnesium and potassium) by eating salmon, avocado, spinach and natural yoghurt (full fat, obviously!)

Thanks wombat, I'm not always managing my 3L - I try to have 4 x 750 bottle over the day but sometimes the 4th one is a struggle!

Wombatinabathhat · 01/03/2016 20:04

I know it's hard neko. I often struggle with the water but i understand it is very important

LexLoofah · 01/03/2016 20:43

thanks wombat, I have sequestered myself in the bedroom with bbc iplayer in order to stay away from the kitchen! I have never had a whoosh so would be nice but would settle for a break in this stall I seem to be in

shouldiblowthewhistle · 01/03/2016 21:18

hefzi was it an ACL reconstruction? Hamstring graft?

feekerry · 01/03/2016 21:20

Would be interested to see how you get on with über bc lex as I'm considering doing it to drop last 2 stubborn lbs.
So spent last 4 hours in my local hospital with a finger squash injury that involved a very heavy metal door..... Finger is broken in 2 places and been referred to orthopaedic clinic on Friday. Great. Just what I need after having a month long virus and sinus infection Confused

LexLoofah · 01/03/2016 21:51

BIWI · 01/03/2016 22:20

Well, so much for planning!
B coffee with almond milk.
This because I was going to a lunch - launching an awards programme. I thought sit down meal, plate of food, or at least a hearty buffet -
But no-
Waiters circulated with these miniature filled rolls - sliders? - ham, egg mayo, hummus & beetroot. That was it. I had two - not the bread, had to scrape the filling off with my teeth & discard the rolls - no utensils. Rather unattractive process, hence only two eaten, egg mayo, about 2 Tablespoons, & a microscopic amount of salmon.
I did not eat an actual meal til 4
L minced beef patty on salad, blue cheese, 1/2 avo
D cheese melted over salami, Gr yoghurt, 5 blueberries, 2 sq dark chocolate.
Moral of story -ALWAYS carry supplies! Lack of food put me in a bad mood!

HammerToFall · 02/03/2016 07:12

Forgot to check in on Monday. I'm 2 pound down if someone wouldn't mind adding me. Managed to stay on track with a birthday weekend away.

I dont know if anyone else if the same, although it could be the metabolic training im doing but what the scales say, ten pound down is not what I'd expect with the massive change to my body. I've lost masses of fat around my stomach and legs and have gone from a 16 to a 14.

I've lost a stone and regained loads of times and never seen a significant change to body shape. I'm feeling better than I have done in years Grin

blackteaplease · 02/03/2016 08:20

Woohoo. I have managed to shift enough weight to get my wedding and engagement rings on. Today is a good day.
