Morning campers!

You know the drill! Here's the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for your delectation

So week 3 is fairly typically a bit of a bastard. And I'm afraid to have to tell you all that week 4 is sometimes its best friend.

Don't panic if the scales aren't moving, or even if you're seeing a slight increase. This is totally totally normal for this period of time

Keep focused, make sure you're following the rules - particularly eating the fat and drinking the water - and things should get going again shortly.

If you're struggling, post here rather than dive into the biscuit tin!

Good luck everyone

Oh fucking hell nowitsenough that's really shite news for your dm and you. I hope your mum get all the things she needs quickly. Try and come on here and get support. Eating can be so tied into what's going on in life, and we can be here to listen and offer what help we can, even if it's just an ear and a place to vent. Flowers

Having cancer is rubbish (I speak from experience) but I do feel for the people supporting the cancer sufferer. It's awfully stressful for them, and I guess at that point, more important than ever to take the best care possible of yourself, even though what you really want is to fall face first into some crap food.

miffy49 · 12/02/2015 23:16

So sorry to read your news Nowits. We have been at our wits end this last few weeks as we thought our DS had testicular cancer but he finally got the all-clear on Tuesday. I still can't get my head to function so I fully understand how you must feel.

Well done on sticking to sensible stuff. Even if you have to go to BC light try and keep off the trashy carbs. They wont alter the situation and will just make you feel more shitty. LC will give you the energy you need to support your Mum. It kept me functioning when my Mum was ill. I did survive mostly on black coffee and Baby Bel but I felt tons better than I did when hubs was in ITU (pre LC) and I was living on Dr Pepper and Dairy Milk from the vending machine!

imustbepatient · 12/02/2015 23:26

Nowits I'm so very sorry to hear that, I really hope it has been caught in time and the doctors can give a positive prognosis.

MrsK I lost weight over a series of 3 bootcamps (and keeping going between them). I then "missed" 2 bootcamps because I was no longer bootcamping, but maintaining. For me maintaining is basically still pretty low-carb - I don't want to swap my breakfasts back to boring cereal when I could have eggs and mushrooms. But also, I know (now) that I am the type of person for whom carbs are pretty addictive. So, if I did have cereal for breakfast it would trigger all sorts of cravings all day, I'd be starving by 11am and eating more carbs... My maintaining did include eating carby things, sparingly. I'm back on this bootcamp because I'm up by 7lbs, as the treats got out of hand.

It sounds to me as if you probably are NOT a "carb addict" by nature, and, especially if you are in pretty normal BMI, you can probably go back to a non-crazy "moderation" sort of diet and maintain.

galbraith and tartiflette I have occasionally found constipation a problem in the past, when I was getting started on this way of eating. I would take a laxative pill because its not funny if you get badly constipated. Then, the best way to make sure it doesn't happen is to eat enough fat and drink enough water. Some people talk about mysterious things like flaxseed but I've never tried it wouldn't know where to buy it

Amaxapax keep your chin up! You don't know how much you lost in the first two weeks because you didn't weigh - since then you've lost 3lb, in 3-4 weeks, including any week 3/4 stall. This is EXCELLENT! It really won't come off instantly. But, it really won't be long before you are feeling slimmer. It might not be during your holiday, but you are doing the right things. It didn't go on overnight... sadly it doesn't come off instantly either. But, miraculously, it can come off. I am a totally different shape now. Notso mentioned back fat - I had huge amounts of back fat. Its all gone. This doesn't take 10 days, and you can't even get all the way there in 10 weeks... but you will see a difference if you stick to it for 10 weeks at least. Also Amaxapax I love the idea of the poor insulted DVD pilates instructor...!

Sayra don't beat yourself up about the digestives! Tomorrow is another day. New day, back on the straight and narrow. Thesis writing is a BITCH. Just do whatever it takes to eke a few sentences out. Sometimes I find typing doesn't work for my brain - its easier to handwrite a paragraph then type it in. Or print out what you've got and scribble edits and additions over it, then re-type...

Ehric truly I don't really know the answer. I have never been on MFP or counted my carbs... but since you do, is there a way to drop your carbs from 40g to more like 20g for a while? On the other hand I don't think you should give up avocado, or yogurt, these sound like good sources of fat and protein in the case of the yogurt.

Flowers to all of you who have shared your stories, too...

Agh rotten news nowitsenough. Good luck

nowitsenough · 12/02/2015 23:41

Thanks for the kind words. I feel numb at the moment. She has cancer of the womb, she'll have a MRI next week and then they'll know more, they hope to get her in for a hysterectomy the week after.

I know trashy food won't help, but I just wanted to fall into the biscuit barrel (luckily only has oreos in, dd likes them, we don't! )

I don't know whether to tell the dc. dd1 lives abroad and will be really upset, she is so close to her grandma. I feel awful because I'm not closer, I hate driving and they are 1.5 hours away. Dh will drive me across if I need to go, but I will wait and see what they say next week. We have plans with ydd this weekend that she has been looking forward to for ages.

I forgot to add, I also had a Cathedral City mini cheese with mayonnaise earlier as well.

nowitsenough · 12/02/2015 23:45

BIEI, Trash and Miffy, sorry to hear you've had to deal with cancer or suspected cancer. Dm had been bleeding for over a week, but I hoped it would just be fibroids or polyps. I never thought it would be cancer. She's always been so healthy! She's 76 and likes to garden and walks the dog several times a day.

Lots of heavy stuff on here today, some of it resonates with me with my Mum being overweight as far back as I can remember and died relatively young and I now believe her sugar addiction led in part to that. She was only 49, which is only 9 years older than I am now. Sobering thought. Will break the cycle with my children.

now I am so very sorry about your Mum, there's no denying it will be stressful and emotional but you have tremendous support on here. You are stronger than you think.

Was at a conference today, had a really good breakfast beforehand (3 sc eggs with butter and cream, prosciutto, cuppa) then had a second cuppa as no cream for coffee, lunch was awful for lc, not even a salad. So I had the meat and cheese from the sandwiches and some tuna mayo, no vegetation and I really missed it.

Had marmite between 2 slices of cheese during a quick pit stop at home, eyes bigger than slowly shrinking tummy as was full after half of it.

Took DCs to school fair, they must have had a million grams of carbs with the snow cones, popcorn and candy floss. Both felt a bit ill when we got home and I said "that is what eating junk feels like so be glad we don't do it every day".

DH cooked shrimp, courgeetes and mushrooms for tea, was nice but not enough and too light on the fat as he grilled them. Am still a wee bit hungry, will have a few spoons of yog or a spoon of cream. Night night

Thumbwitch · 13/02/2015 03:17

Nowits, so sorry to hear about your mum's diagnosis! hopefully they have caught it in time and the hysterectomy will sort her out. Thanks

Ehric - I hate to say it, but I find nuts are actually completely counterproductive in terms of weight loss, can you do without them? I realise that being vege does limit your options more, but maybe it will help?
Also, if you're going to use decaff coffee, could you make sure it says on the label that the decaffeination is done naturally using water, rather than any dodgy solvent chemicals? Dodgy solvent chemicals should be avoided at all times, IMO.

Food today so far:
B - cheese lump
L - 2 hardboiled eggs (using the WonderPeel method!) mashed with mayo and cheddar, with garlic salt in iceberg lettuce wraps
D - don't know yet, have to go and buy it. Probably salmon or similar.

Still a bit bunged up here :( - still need to drink more. I was supposed to go to Sydney to get my back cracked today but got a phonecall just before the train came to tell me my osteo is sick, so I've to wait another week now. :( Luckily I got a refund on my ticket as I didn't use it at all! But my back needs straightening...

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 13/02/2015 06:16

Thank you all so much! I can't name check you all because I'm in my phone and its a pain but I've read every reply and I'm grateful.

  • I don't eat fish, so even more limited.
  • yes I could do without nuts and seeds, I don't eat a lot, but I don't need to eat them at all
  • I am snacking still out of habit rather than need. I will keep the yoghurt but have it as 'dessert' right after the meal rather than a mid afternoon snack.
  • yes to decent decaf, anyone know any reliable brands?
  • yes to buying more variety of veg, I am a fusspot so I like what I like and this leads to very samey food. I don't mind this generally but it's getting a bit silly.

Food-
B- 2 eggs, butter (same every day. I had one egg yesterday and was hungry so I will still with 2)
L - salad with olive oil dressing, avocado, olives and a sprinkling of seeds
S- yoghurt with cream
D- fried veg like mushroom and courgette. Fried tofu. Soya sauce and chilli. With something like mashed swede or cauliflower with butter
Or an omelette with cheese and some boiled veg like broccoli and butter

tartiflette · 13/02/2015 06:43

Nowits, sending you strength xx

Must locate some physilium (sp?!) husks today Blush

I have definitely noticed that I don't get period pains with this WOE, however my periods are lasting an absolute age. Could that be diet related or maybe it's a perimenopause thing??

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 13/02/2015 06:47

Nowits Flowers

StuntNun · 13/02/2015 06:51

Ehric I suspect that you may not be getting enough fat. Adding cream to your yoghurt and including some more nuts might help. It certainly doesn't look like you're eating too much, I know two eggs wouldn't keep me going all morning, I usually have three scrambled and yoghurts with 50g raspberries (Asda frozen ones are good).

StuntNun · 13/02/2015 06:53

Sorry I'm not paying enough attention Ehric, you're already adding cream. Are you feeling hungry any of the time? When I was actively losing weight I would still find myself standing at the fridge eating clotted cream by the spoonful! Blush

ChesterDrawers · 13/02/2015 07:06

Nowits Flowers keeping everything crossed for positive news for your DM.

Now 0.2 above 11st - these scales are teasing me this week. Had two glasses of red and two mini bars of 85% last night too so was a bit worried I might have shot up, but thankfully it seems not.

Today's plan - out over lunch so will eat breakfast late to try and help keep hunger at bay.

Late B: 2x scrambled eggs. 2x bacon, mushrooms in butter, BPC
D: donner kebab, garlic mayo, salad, a little wine

I've not been able to update the spreadsheet this week. Last week I took my work laptop off the network and was able to do it but this week it didn't work. Can anyone help out and add 155.6? I'd really appreciate it.

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 13/02/2015 07:18

Thanks stunt. No I'm not getting hungry at all. 2 eggs is fine for breakfast as well as a coffee with cream I forgot to add.
Does a small handful (10ish) of Brazil nuts a day sound ok?

Thumbwitch · 13/02/2015 07:30

Chester - done for you :)

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 13/02/2015 07:40

Sorry about your mum nowits :( Flowers

Just having my breakfast - 3 streaky bacon, 1 boiled egg, decaff coffee (i'm using haag decaff tassimo pods at the mo) with cream

ChesterDrawers · 13/02/2015 07:41

Thanks Thumb Flowers

lurkingmurking · 13/02/2015 08:05

nowits I'm so sorry to hear your news sending you lots of strength.

Sorry if TMI but I've had diarrhoea (so?) the last couple of days but feel absolutely fine and eating well! It's resulted in a very nice number on the scales though!!

Amaxapax · 13/02/2015 08:24

I'm sorry to hear your news, nowits. I hope they have caught the cancer early and the treatment goes well.

BIWI, I read this article. Upon review, it doesn't specify cheese, but it does say that the 'dairy protein' can spike insulin as much as white bread. I think I interpteted cheese because that's where the majority of my diary is coming from.

B: Eggs in mayo
L: A concoction of tuna, egg mayonnaise, cold cauliflower rice and spinach leaves
D: Sausages, swede mash, broccoli

Amaxapax · 13/02/2015 08:25

Argh. Helpful to post the link to the article. authoritynutrition.com/15-reasons-not-losing-weight-on-a-low-carb-diet/

Mrsstevejones · 13/02/2015 08:31

So sorry to hear about your mum NOW, take care of yourself so you can be strong for her, we are here if you need us.

I have been feeling rubbish last couple of days, food yesterday was terrible
