Week 8 - Low Carb Bootcamp - Come on Andy!

BIWI · 23/06/2014 07:43

Welcome to week 8 where hopefully the tennis will distract us all from England's performance in the World Cup!

Come and register this week's weigh in on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness or on your own Weight Tracker

And just a reminder re rule 6 - because I'm a bit of a broken record about telling you all to drink more Grin - here's how much you should be drinking:

6. You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day.

The more weight you have to lose, the more water you should drink. This is from another low carb website

Water is essential to weight loss for those who eat low-carb. The minimum consumed in a day should be:

Your Weight----Litres
140lbs-----2.5
160lbs-----3.0
180lbs-----3.0
200lbs-----3.5
220lbs-----3.5
240lbs-----4.0
260lbs-----4.5
280lbs-----4.5
300lbs-----5.0
320lbs-----5.5
340lbs-----5.5
360lbs-----6.0
380lbs-----6.5
400lbs-----6.5

High levels of ketones in the blood stream can lead to a reduction in ketone production, therefore being well hydrated could aid in keeping the levels low and ketone production ongoing. Consuming enough water can have many other positive side effects: aids your kidneys with the processing of protein, reduces the retention of water, helps with preventing constipation, and reduces the levels of ketones released by your breath, which in-turn will reduce breath odour.

However, drinking a lot of water can mean that you also need to keep an eye on your electrolyte balance. You need to make sure that you are consuming sufficient sodium and potassium. On a low carb diet we can eat more salt, so make sure that you are cooking with salt and adding salt to food, if you like it. Good, low carb, sources of potassium are spinach (raw), avocado, mushrooms, courgettes and asparagus, as well as salmon and yoghurt.

In this hot weather, remember that you will also be sweating a bit more, so you may need to try and squeeze in a little bit more if you possibly can!

Pisseslikeahorse · 27/06/2014 13:06

Sorry - both days should have had pig snacks with them and yesterday 9pt water today probably the same.

Yes I should be stronger, but for some reason I just feel very hungry at the moment. Will up my water and salt see what happens.

doineedhelp · 27/06/2014 13:29

gosh me too, i'm thinking it is because my totm is due soonish, i usually want to eat the world around totm, could it be this? Any advice on how to get over my first experience of it loc carbing?? (i am already drinking LOADS of water!)

Supermum0203 · 27/06/2014 15:22

Afternoon ladies!
Can somebody add my weight pls? 64.9 kg yesterday, as I forgot to post it.
Regarding food, I'm still a big mess. I haven't eaten for nearly 4 days due to a cold, chest infection, sore throat and today I woke up with some mouth ulcers, so food wise nil.
Lots and lots of water. Hopefully tomorrow things will improve a bit and I will b able to eat something :)

IrianofWay · 27/06/2014 15:27

Nowt so far this week (again) . Well I suppose about half a lb as I am 170lbs on the nose! It feels like I have been waiting for ages to get below 170 - seeing it on the scales this mornnig I was desperately hoping I could force another wee out just to see a number stating with 16... Grin

TOTM still hanging about though.

Pisseslikeahorse · 27/06/2014 16:03

super weight added.

doineedhelp - its definitely not my TOTM Grin
you could try upping your food, perhaps more (carb low end) salad and fat. - its sort of what I've been planning for my dinner. I was also going to hard boil some eggs and get some olives out, so 'good snacks'.

Ive been dealing with stuff this week and am a bit pissed off as well so that probably adds to it, I just get really frustrated when I go back to this crappy old habit. I need a mantra or some sort of displacement activity Im sick to the back teeth of drinking water

lowcarbforthewin · 27/06/2014 16:45

Good day here, it feels so easy this week for some reason. It's so much nicer not being overwhelmed with wanting to binge. I'm sure the adding dairy back in has helped. Have a batch of Greek yogurt in the yogurt maker as I type.

Scrambled eggs with butter for breakfast
Beefburger and veg for lunch with tahini
Duck legs for supper

Fluffycloudland77 · 27/06/2014 17:12

Did you all find that you needed smaller portion sizes as you got used to eating low carb?.

I feel crap but that's just af.

Supermum0203 · 27/06/2014 18:44

Thanks ever so much, PISSES :)

BIWI · 27/06/2014 19:11

If you're hungry, up your fat.

Fluffy - yes! One of the great things about low carbing is the effect it has on your appetite.

It's very weird biwi I've been doing this for 4 weeks and not felt hungry at all so I think I'm getting enough fat? I haven't eaten many eggs this week so I'll try having some for breakfast. Thanks

BIWI · 27/06/2014 19:56

If you're hungry, then you need to eat. Just make sure it's low carb/high fat, obviously Grin

Hi all, haven't RTFT yet, I'm just SMS before I go and read.

B decaf BPC
D roast chicken and roast swede (butter, coconut oil, dill, garlic)
T same roast chicken with bag of mixed baby dark salad leaves and mayo.

Haven't done very well water wise, but hopefully I'll get more in before bed. Had two or three peppermint teas though.

FolknNorah · 27/06/2014 20:35

Grin that didn't take long! I was expecting a lot of catching up.

Sorry to hear you're ill supermum hope you get better soon. Today is The Toddlers's birthday, so there has been cake. I resisted but.... it.......was...so......hard.....
Which is odd, I thought I was 'over ' being a carbytwat. Oh well. Onwards and STS downwards eh?

Supermum0203 · 27/06/2014 20:53

Thanks FOLKN. My last meal was on Sunday night and I couldn't manage anything since then, but al of the dude I was feeling hungry and I have had aBIG piece of Brie and a ff Greek yogurt . I'm feeling sick right now , and I hope after not eating in nearly 5 days, it doesn't mess my weight too much; I will b really disappointed :(

Supermum0203 · 27/06/2014 21:02

FOLKN , well done for resisting the cake. I know how hard it is..in fact last Saturday at the christening I went to I made all the food and when it was pudding time I tried to resist all the cakes but at the end, I had a couple of pieces. ... couldn't help myself, and I have been lc since April and this is my only cheating time but my sweeth tooth hasn't gone at all, and I think never will. So u have done great. :)

spamm · 28/06/2014 04:43

Hello all - sorry for being absent. Been on business travel and had a mixed week. Most of the week I stuck to the rules, but on Wednesday I was in a business meeting and then dinner - and it was not good - there we no easy, good choices, so I decided to draw a veil over it and just get things started properly again.

Today was a good day. I got tons of exercise - walked 18 holes on the golf course watching the PGA tour, in hot steamy weather, and then had a late lunch of a bunless burger and salad. It was so hot, I think I had done my 3.5ltrs by 4pm.

My Cub Scout is home from his week at camp and he had a blast. He had not showered for 3 days, and was filthy but so happy. Tomorrow, another 18 holes at the golf, so plenty more exercise. Am not a golf fan, but my cousin is playing so it makes it so much more fun.

Supermum hope you are much better now! Sounds really bad - poor you!

BIWI · 28/06/2014 08:38

Hope you're better soon, Supermum!

spamm - don't worry about it. These things happen and you can't always be prepared or in a situation to prevent it.

Wow, 4 lbs off this morning.

Weirdly it mostly seems to be off my arms which have gone from 14in to 12 in whilst my waist and hips haven't changed. My neck and breasts are looking smaller too.

BIWI · 28/06/2014 08:49

Brilliant! Flowers

SayraT · 28/06/2014 09:32

Just had the yummiest breakfast, I totally love this WOE Grin

Scrambled eggs, streaky bacon and asparagus and coffee with cream.

Well done best thats good news.

spamm unfortunately I think thats what sometimes happens when you have to travel with work, you just need to do your best and get back on track as soon as you can. It sounds like you did just that.

Fluffycloudland77 · 28/06/2014 09:38

If you have carbs how long does the body come out of ketosis for?

SayraT · 28/06/2014 10:06

On Saturday Kitchen right now they are making cauliflower pizza and courgetti! My DM just text me to let me know.

NeverHadANickname · 28/06/2014 10:48

Morning all.

Well done Best, that's brilliant.

Hope your feeling better Super.

I have been on a hen night which included a meal but I had pulled pork which only had a tiny drizzle of BBQ sauce and salad. I drank loads of water because I was drinking and just had 1 fruity mocktail which I know isn't ideal but it was bought for me.

Thankfully, after my disaster around my exams, the weight is starting to come off again so I'm really pleased.

Food today:
B - Yog with cream
D - A sort of Caesar salad which I had yesterday and was lush
T - I'm not sure, think I need to go to the shop. Although I do have some black farmer sausages in the freezer so I might have some of those with celeriac chips and mushrooms.

readyforno2 · 28/06/2014 11:01

Help! Totm and craving chocolate/biscuits/bread... The list goes on.
I haven't had a period for months (mirena) and seem to recall reading on one of the threads that others had noticed changes in their cycles? I've lost 4 1/2 stone since January so I guess that is probably a factor
