Week 8 - Low Carb Bootcamp - Come on Andy!

BIWI · 23/06/2014 07:43

Welcome to week 8 where hopefully the tennis will distract us all from England's performance in the World Cup!

Come and register this week's weigh in on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness or on your own Weight Tracker

And just a reminder re rule 6 - because I'm a bit of a broken record about telling you all to drink more Grin - here's how much you should be drinking:

6. You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day.

The more weight you have to lose, the more water you should drink. This is from another low carb website

Water is essential to weight loss for those who eat low-carb. The minimum consumed in a day should be:

Your Weight----Litres
140lbs-----2.5
160lbs-----3.0
180lbs-----3.0
200lbs-----3.5
220lbs-----3.5
240lbs-----4.0
260lbs-----4.5
280lbs-----4.5
300lbs-----5.0
320lbs-----5.5
340lbs-----5.5
360lbs-----6.0
380lbs-----6.5
400lbs-----6.5

High levels of ketones in the blood stream can lead to a reduction in ketone production, therefore being well hydrated could aid in keeping the levels low and ketone production ongoing. Consuming enough water can have many other positive side effects: aids your kidneys with the processing of protein, reduces the retention of water, helps with preventing constipation, and reduces the levels of ketones released by your breath, which in-turn will reduce breath odour.

However, drinking a lot of water can mean that you also need to keep an eye on your electrolyte balance. You need to make sure that you are consuming sufficient sodium and potassium. On a low carb diet we can eat more salt, so make sure that you are cooking with salt and adding salt to food, if you like it. Good, low carb, sources of potassium are spinach (raw), avocado, mushrooms, courgettes and asparagus, as well as salmon and yoghurt.

In this hot weather, remember that you will also be sweating a bit more, so you may need to try and squeeze in a little bit more if you possibly can!

It tastes better than it sounds fluffy I drink coffee black normally and can drink it with coconut oil in, at a push I can manage a bpc but with milk or cream in it is bleeurgh! Envy

B- 2 rashers bacon, 1 BF chipolata, 2 eggs scrambled with cream and butter
L- Chicken, salad, homemade basil salad dressing
T- Thai green chicken and prawn curry with mangetout and zero noodles
Not strictly allowed was a spoonful or two of sf jelly and an Atkins bar Blush

FolknNorah · 24/06/2014 20:10

Well I have the ten hours/days/weeks DVD, so I could start that and you could do the same/similar? Not sure what it's properly called but I'm sure the number ten is involved Hmm Grin

Fluffycloudland77 · 24/06/2014 20:19

Soya yoghurts low fat, I'll ditch it.

How much cucumber is safe?

No flour in the sausages but probably in the gravy.

antimatter · 24/06/2014 20:43

I think that cucumber is very safe - mostly water.

lowcarbforthewin · 24/06/2014 21:10

As much cucumber as you want. When you are eating this way, you become aware of when you are full much easier. It's hard to overeat. A couple of handfuls is a good estimate for veg with each meal. You aren't going to stall your weight loss eating low carb veg, it's good for you.

BIWI · 24/06/2014 21:16

Fluffy - have you looked at the rules of Bootcamp? And more importantly, the list of allowed veg/carb counts? Go to the spreadsheet and look at the tabs at the bottom. Cucumber is 1.5g carbs per 100g, so you can eat plenty of it.

And with the sausages, it's the carb count that's the key thing - a lot of sausages are very high in carbs. What brand did you have?

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 24/06/2014 21:18

Andrew & Debbie pork sausages, 3.5g per 100.

readyforno2 · 24/06/2014 21:36

Haven't eaten much today. Just not that hungry..

No breakfast
L - 2 eggs scrambled with double cream, 2 rashers of bacon and a couple of mushrooms fried in butter
D - pre packed stir fry 4.3g per 100g
Ff yog with some double cream

Loads of water, especially at the pt this morning

FolknNorah · 25/06/2014 06:56

Morning hope everyone is ok

Already this morning I gave done better than yesterday
Small Greek yoghurt, plus cream and teaspoon or two of mixed seeds and a small BPC. Then water to wash it down.

I know the seeds aren't great carb wise which is why I'm so strict with them, otherwise I'd eat loads of them Grin

NeverHadANickname · 25/06/2014 07:17

B - BPC and yog with cream amd coconut cream
D - chicken spread with butter I think
T - chicken and mushrooms in cream sauce. All fried in butter

i get my veg tomorrow so things will be easier.

SayraT · 25/06/2014 07:56

I seem to have run our of eggs Shock

B: Fried mushrooms and two pork sausages
L: Left over pulled pork, lettuce, cucumber, peppers and 5 plum tomatoes
D:Pan fried chicken thighs with vegetables
S: FF yogurt

CQ · 25/06/2014 08:04

Sayra shame you live so far away - I've just bought 3 new hens to add to our existing 3. We never run out of eggs Grin

I am trying really hard to lose another 2lbs this week. DH has been working abroad since March and we had a pact to lose 10% of our body weight by the time he came home. I'm nearly there!! He's done really well too. It's been the only positive thing about him being away so long Sad

Suzymoo09 · 25/06/2014 08:18

Fluffy nuts are very nutritious it's just for BC they can stall you because they also have lots of carbs in and are rather moorish. After the first few weeks of BC I have a few in my morning yogurt (FF low plain) but am careful to only have a few (I find them very tempting though).

There are really useful links to food advice at the tabs at bottom of the spreadsheet as BIWI says - soon it will become a natural way of eating for you.

Suzymoo09 · 25/06/2014 08:18

I meant FF yogurt not low fat!

SayraT · 25/06/2014 08:18

I never used to run out of eggs, that's why I am shocked. OH's work had chickens but now he has changed jobs so I need to buy eggs Smile My friend has chickens but she lives 2 hrs away. I am tempted to visit monthly and just stock up!

When is he due home? Its hard working apart from OHs so hope he is home soon. Well done on your weight loss, 10% is pretty good Smile

LittleMissDisorganized · 25/06/2014 08:32

Hi everyone,
Am giggling away here with Scous's unwise jumping and nodding in agreement with lowcarbforthewin and Seri that I am almost normal waist up where I didn't need to lose it and my tummy and bottom seem to be going nowhere.

I'm plodding on, am in for longer/ extra but from next week may not be around that much or that often depending on energy levels. I'm writing the next few weeks meal plans, am determined to keep plodding and organisation really is the key.

trash what a great encouraging post, it's lovely to have some joy in clothes again, isn't it!

BIWI · 25/06/2014 09:03

LMD do you start work next week? How exciting/stressful !

Had a difficult day yesterday but managed to stay in LC control!

No breakfast (intentionally)

Train to Leeds for afternoon meetings, straddling lunch - bought a Pret-a-Manger Italian Chicken salad for lunch (salad leaves, roasted red peppers, black olives, pistachios, cucumber, tomato, chicken and Parmesan, with dressing). I can't remember how carby it is, but from checking before I know it's not too bad

Didn't get home till 7 and hadn't really thought about what was for dinner and had forgotten to take anything out of the freezer to defrost, so cobbled together a stir-fry from left-over roast chicken, with baby sweetcorn, chilli, asparagus, shallot, ginger and garlic, served with egg fried cauliflower rice. Probably a fair few carbs in that, relatively speaking, but not bad for the day overall I think.

Lots of water, and some salted macadamia nuts during the evening

OP posts:
BIWI · 25/06/2014 09:08

Carbs in the salad were 6.4g

when on BCL it says you can have some berries, how many are we talking about? Every day, once a week or is it just suck it and see in terms of weight loss? I am loving this WOE but i long for strawberries, raspberries, blueberries etc

B - FF yogurt, cream and coconut cream, coffee with cream
L - frittata and salad with oil dressing
D - tuna steaks cooked in coconut oil, courgetti and some other veg in butter
S - BPC

lowcarbforthewin · 25/06/2014 09:41

I would love to have hens, so jealous. I still might get some sometime, just have to get my life a bit more sorted so I have the energy to look after them. Also would love ducks just so I can have a cheap supply of my crack, duck eggs. But know they can make a real mess.

Have had a lovely bowl of Greek yogurt with coconut cream for breakfast. Also been sat listening to the Andrew Johnson emotional eating app. I want to commit to listening to it much more regularly, it really helps. He suggests listening to it every day for 3 weeks to make a permanent change but not sure how easy that will be.

Duck legs for supper, squid and mussel and cabbage concoction for lunch.

lowcarbforthewin · 25/06/2014 09:42

doineed I think everyone is different. It depends on how active you are, how overweight, how easily you lose weight. Some people only eat them a couple of times a week as a treat, I have a v small portion daily because doing this is too restrictive for me otherwise and I'm at risk of binging.

magso · 25/06/2014 09:45

Egg fried cauliflower rice sounds interesting and inventive BIWI- did it go down well? I started off cooking different things for the family and for me -ie roast spuds and carrots for them, roast celeriac for me. Its a bit of a faff so now I am trying to serve things we can all eat - although I don't eat some things. M&S 97% pork sausages are 0.6g, per 100g and very tasty for those looking for lower carb sausages. Tried them last night.
I have to be very careful with nuts as I could eat my weight in them! Yesterday had 3 hazelnuts - only restrained because there were only 3 on ds cake whilst in a café (he doesn't like them - and don't worry I checked to remove all contamination from cake), and there was literally nothing I could eat, as if often the case in little cafes.

doineedhelp · 25/06/2014 09:55

thanks lowcarb i have about 2 stone to lose (but already lost half a stone) and i do struggle to lose weight so maybe i'll keep them to a few times a week as a treat.

magso · 25/06/2014 09:59

BCL here so look away BCampers proper.
Doineed I had several (3-4) helpings of (small bowl) berries and a couple of portions (baby food sized containers) of salted roast almonds and STS oh and a glass of wine so I guess that was a little too much- for me anyway. I am being more restrained this week. Trying now to BC during the week and keep the BCL' treats' to the weekend!

doineedhelp · 25/06/2014 10:45

thanks magso i guess that makes sense to do BC during week and BCL weekends. I admire your willpower, there is no way i would even buy salted roast almonds and not scoff the lot in one sitting sigh
