Week 8 - Low Carb Bootcamp - Come on Andy!

BIWI · 23/06/2014 07:43

Welcome to week 8 where hopefully the tennis will distract us all from England's performance in the World Cup!

Come and register this week's weigh in on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness or on your own Weight Tracker

And just a reminder re rule 6 - because I'm a bit of a broken record about telling you all to drink more Grin - here's how much you should be drinking:

6. You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day.

The more weight you have to lose, the more water you should drink. This is from another low carb website

Water is essential to weight loss for those who eat low-carb. The minimum consumed in a day should be:

Your Weight----Litres
140lbs-----2.5
160lbs-----3.0
180lbs-----3.0
200lbs-----3.5
220lbs-----3.5
240lbs-----4.0
260lbs-----4.5
280lbs-----4.5
300lbs-----5.0
320lbs-----5.5
340lbs-----5.5
360lbs-----6.0
380lbs-----6.5
400lbs-----6.5

High levels of ketones in the blood stream can lead to a reduction in ketone production, therefore being well hydrated could aid in keeping the levels low and ketone production ongoing. Consuming enough water can have many other positive side effects: aids your kidneys with the processing of protein, reduces the retention of water, helps with preventing constipation, and reduces the levels of ketones released by your breath, which in-turn will reduce breath odour.

However, drinking a lot of water can mean that you also need to keep an eye on your electrolyte balance. You need to make sure that you are consuming sufficient sodium and potassium. On a low carb diet we can eat more salt, so make sure that you are cooking with salt and adding salt to food, if you like it. Good, low carb, sources of potassium are spinach (raw), avocado, mushrooms, courgettes and asparagus, as well as salmon and yoghurt.

In this hot weather, remember that you will also be sweating a bit more, so you may need to try and squeeze in a little bit more if you possibly can!

I will be carrying on beyond bootcamp. I might plan a couple of cheat days, I think they are important psychologically so you don't start feeling too deprived, but then straight back at it. It would feel weird to eat any other way now anyway!

lowcarbforthewin · 23/06/2014 15:04

Spamm I want to do the same but too chicken!

pingufan · 23/06/2014 15:15

I feel the same, how do you know when you are at the point that you are happy? I'm a comfortable size 16 and 13st but at only 5'2 it's still way too big. I think another 2 stone will be about right and then I'll be a 12/14 I'll be happy with that as I'm the wrong side of 40 and I don't want to look haggard.

I have no idea how I'm going to maintain, I suspect it's going to be a lot of sucking and seeing, maybe relaxing a bit on weekends and boot camp style days through the week. After all it's not a difficult way of eating is it

RoaringForties · 23/06/2014 15:29

I need to stay on a lc thread somewhere too this time, especially as I just did as miffy suggested and jumped up and down.

lowcarb so sorry your night out made you feel like that, I admire your scale avoidance and have everything crossed for you this week.

spamm have sent the whoosh fairy business class so she gets to you nice and refreshedSmile

right off to sit in the greenhouse and chat to my radishes

Lighthousekeeping · 23/06/2014 15:31

I've failed miserable this time. Too many events. Glastonbury this week. I don't think cider is low carb Sad

glenthebattleostrich · 23/06/2014 15:36

1lbon this week but just had AF and not been to the loo properly for a couple of days (tmi)!

3 litres of water down, v low carb day so fingers crossed for next week.

Was going g to start shredding again but the heat has just sapped all of my energy.

BIWI · 23/06/2014 15:47

Don't worry - after Bootcamp ends I start a continuation thread where we can all continue to post. We just won't have a new thread each week.

I'm not sure when the next one will be, although I've already been asked Grin.

I don't normally do another one until the run up to Christmas, but seeing as I need to take myself in hand, I'm considering trying to slot one in shortly, if anyone else is interested? I'm aware that because of my job I'm not around as much as I was in other Bootcamps, so I don't want to over-promise and under-deliver!

Guy I can't even load the spreadsheet this week, and struggled last week, so its not just you. Well done to all who have lost weight and maintained. Doineed I just cut up some ceriac (after peeling), boil and mash it with butter and cream. Its quite nice but the rest of the family don't much agree!
No loss for me this week but I have only been BCL most of last week and am close to my target weight. I don't understand why my bust has not shrunk, but I suppose I've only lost 8lbs in total so may be that will change later- there are other areas that need to slim down first. My scales have been reading low and give me a 2lb higher reading if I take them downstairs to a harder floor. I'm keeping them upstairs as its kinder!

FolknNorah · 23/06/2014 15:51

Marking my place so I can post my food intake later Grin

I struggle with the spreadsheet as well but have managed this week. I have had a visit from the whoosh fairy and am 6lb down this week making a total of 9lb over 4 weeks Smile

BIWI I'm in for another bootcamp if you want to do an extra one although I can't promise to be around enough to help due to work and life getting in the way

I have found a new favourite. Ocado had hollandaise sauce on offer so I got some with my last order and am now happily scoffing some "naice" ham, poached eggs and hollandaise. It's yummy, dare I say the word delish!

miffy49 · 23/06/2014 16:29

Biwi I'm game for doing a full one. I've not been with you all very long but its been a huge help.

Roaring I wondered why the earth moved! (Ducks and runs!) Grin Could do with the Whoosh Fairy coming round here if she can summon up the energy. I think shes fallen out with me!

antimatter · 23/06/2014 16:42

Yes please, I'd like to carry on with everyone else on the bootcamp+1 as well!
I can help with creating threads as I am working very early and starting at 5:30AM.
Grin

Seri77 · 23/06/2014 17:17

Yes BIWI please lets do another bootcamp before the Christmas one. I'm going nowhere fast this bootcamp so need to keep on, otherwise I may get despondent and give up.

spamm · 23/06/2014 17:21

BIWI - I will be there if we do another bootcamp, and I promise to help out if there is anything I can do, like posting links or motivational speeches!

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/06/2014 17:30

I need some advice.

I weighed 8st 13lb and I lost 2lb between Tuesday & yesterday but I don't know if I'm still in ketosis or not.

I had some pickled beet root, small portion of iceberg lettuce and cucumber last night, have I ruined it?

I am drinking loads but I'm quite thirsty.

Pisseslikeahorse · 23/06/2014 17:42

Fluffycloudland77 - post up your food for yesterday, if anything it looks like your missing out fat.

BIWI I would love to do this again, as well as an ongoing thread.
Oh and when I said 'I've got a well trained GP' I meant I've got my GP well trained Grin, can't wait to tell him about jumping up and down in front of a mirror

doineedhelp · 23/06/2014 17:48

Thanks *magso' will give it a try.

I would be in for another boot camp too biwi Grin

wombat22 · 23/06/2014 17:59

Well 2lb on this morning. I was expecting it as I let myself go over the weekend. I'm going on my hols Thurs so I will just enjoy it and see you all when I get back. Some great losses, so well done to all. I would also like another bootcamp please BIWI Grin

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/06/2014 18:09

Yesterday was;

Soya yoghurt (cows milk allergy) with hazelnuts, almonds, chopped mixed nuts and loads of hemp seeds.

Lunch was two small tins of tuna mixed with full fat mayo and some lettuce leaves to spoon it into.

Dinner was beet root, cucumber, 8oz rump steak (I ate the fat off that though), fried egg. I could have probably had an extra egg there.

After dinner snack was a handful of almonds plus a small bar of aldi 85% choc, it's got 5g of carb per bar but dh had about a third of it too but no almonds.

I have pmt symptoms (dh is donning full protective clothing before asking me anything) so the chocolate is instead of my usual whole pack of bourbons.

Dh is picking me a bag of salted peanuts up.

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/06/2014 18:10

Hemp seeds? Golden linseed.

See? That's pmt that is.

BIWI · 23/06/2014 18:40

Fluffy - an awful lot of nuts there! Be careful as that could get very carby very quickly.

And re your other post:

I had some pickled beet root, small portion of iceberg lettuce and cucumber last night, have I ruined it?

The beetroot wasn't great, but nothing wrong with lettuce (why only a small portion) or cucumber. And I hope you had an oily dressing and/or some mayo with that?

I am drinking loads but I'm quite thirsty.

That's a sign that you need to eat more salt.

FolknNorah · 23/06/2014 18:40

Ok, so food today.

Small BPC and two chicken legs.
Prawns in mayonnaise and salad leaves
Panfried chicken in coconut oil and salted butter tossed in wilted green salad leaves. Wink
Some melted cheese with a smidge of paprika.

Almost 2 1/2 litres of water, three by bed time.

How does that sound?

FolknNorah · 23/06/2014 18:41
Grin
BIWI · 23/06/2014 18:48

That looks OK - but you could do with a bit more veg.
