Week 8 - Low Carb Bootcamp - Come on Andy!

Welcome to week 8 where hopefully the tennis will distract us all from England's performance in the World Cup!

Come and register this week's weigh in on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness or on your own Weight Tracker

And just a reminder re rule 6 - because I'm a bit of a broken record about telling you all to drink more Grin - here's how much you should be drinking:

6. You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day.

The more weight you have to lose, the more water you should drink. This is from another low carb website

Water is essential to weight loss for those who eat low-carb. The minimum consumed in a day should be:

Your Weight----Litres
140lbs-----2.5
160lbs-----3.0
180lbs-----3.0
200lbs-----3.5
220lbs-----3.5
240lbs-----4.0
260lbs-----4.5
280lbs-----4.5
300lbs-----5.0
320lbs-----5.5
340lbs-----5.5
360lbs-----6.0
380lbs-----6.5
400lbs-----6.5

High levels of ketones in the blood stream can lead to a reduction in ketone production, therefore being well hydrated could aid in keeping the levels low and ketone production ongoing. Consuming enough water can have many other positive side effects: aids your kidneys with the processing of protein, reduces the retention of water, helps with preventing constipation, and reduces the levels of ketones released by your breath, which in-turn will reduce breath odour.

However, drinking a lot of water can mean that you also need to keep an eye on your electrolyte balance. You need to make sure that you are consuming sufficient sodium and potassium. On a low carb diet we can eat more salt, so make sure that you are cooking with salt and adding salt to food, if you like it. Good, low carb, sources of potassium are spinach (raw), avocado, mushrooms, courgettes and asparagus, as well as salmon and yoghurt.

In this hot weather, remember that you will also be sweating a bit more, so you may need to try and squeeze in a little bit more if you possibly can!

Morning all Grin Just a quick SMS

Have stayed the same for three weeks now, with a 1lb gain from the 2 weeks previous to that. Now, I've followed mainly bc, with a couple of weekends of bc light. Last bc I was in despair by this point, as my weight loss did pretty much the same thing. This time, I feel no despondency at all. I'm quite convinced that my fat cells are simply filled up with the huge amounts of water I'm guzzling, and at some point soon, they'll whoosh off. I remember last time I low carbed my weight loss piddled about from week to week, then kind of monthly just fell off in chunks, which was very fucking satisfying.

I bought the most excellent pair of trousers from LTS, which I was worried wouldn't fit my legs. They're really simple black jeggins, but they are size 18 (I had previously bought some size 20 straight leg jeans from them, and struggled to get my thighs in - although they are too big now Grin) and fit like a glove. I'm 5'11 so often trousers don't fit me from crotch to waist, but these are specially for long uns! I'm delighted, but since they got here the weather has been mega muggy, and I want to wear them more!

My size 18 work trousers are now getting a bit too loose around the gunty parts, so I need to do some creative tailoring on those too!

Hello all.

Egg mayo & coffee w cream for bf, sat with an enormous 2l bottle of water glugging it down. Will probably have tricolore salad for lunch & beef casserole to finish off for dinner with tons of brocolli. Trying to take advantage of the heat meaning I only really want to eat salad/light meals. Still not weighed. Might try and get a good week over & AF out of the way and then weigh. Although lots of things are still rubbish, am ignoring them, and being in control of my diet makes me feel better about that at least. Will trundle off to the woods this afternoon as kids are grumpy and don't cope well with the heat.

Trash - Really motivating post, (both your determination and the fact you've gone down a size) - thank you!

Seri - sorry you're feeling so down. I know what you mean about wanting to look like yourself again - I hate that feeling every time I look in the mirror. But this is such a healthy diet and that dratted weight will come off eventually!

readyforno2 · 24/06/2014 12:23

2.8lb down this week.
Getting a bit worried about the summer now though. Aerobics only runs during term time and my pt going away for 3 weeks..

doineedhelp · 24/06/2014 14:10

so i have just bought a small can of coconut cream, what can i do with it and is it okay to eat during BC /BCL?

Suzymoo09 · 24/06/2014 14:12

Hello - still here and yes I would also be up for another bootcamp before christmas although I don't post much I could send positive energy your way.

I have tweeked my bootcamping fats in order to try to get my cholesterol down (ie cut down on cream, coconut oil, cheddar and upping olive oil, avocadoes, goats milk & yogurt - am experimenting a bit with this). Pisses sounds like you are lucky with your doc, mine was disapproving of this woe so I am doing my own research and experiments & will keep it quiet from him. I hear they do very little nutrition as part of their training.

Seri77 you are definitely due a whoosh probability wise, I hope you get one very soon. I stalled for ages on last bc.

I am 50!! on Saturday and am 1lb away from where I wanted to be by then - let's hope I make it.

Still would like to lose another stone so will be bootcamping for a while yet and low-carbing forever.

Supermum0203 · 24/06/2014 14:31

Hello
Much better today and less bloated, but still I can see a big belly..:)
Many congrats to all the losers and to the others just be patient and keep on keeping on.
I haven't had anything yet as I'm still paying for myBIG mistakes during the weekend. :(

BIWI, please count me in for the new BC :)

Suzy that is fantastic..!! Only 1 pound away.. cool

Seri 77 don't lose hope, sure you soon will see good results :)

lowcarbforthewin · 24/06/2014 14:42

Well done everyone, you're all doing so well.

Seri77 · 24/06/2014 16:45

Thanks for your kind words everyone. It's good to know others stalled for ages then lost more. I used to have a lovely figure and I'm all squashy now and just don't feel confident. I hope a whoosh will come my way soon, even a pound would be very welcome. My husband said my face is thinner & I'm definitely more bony around the collarbones. Unfortunately that's not where I store my extra weight.

Ewan I've found Callanetics very good for my pear shape. I had a phase of doing them in my early 20s & then on maternity leave more recently, both times my saddlebags reduced substantially and legs proved overall. I only have the books, amusingly 80s in style. Some people find it boring but I find it relaxing in a similar way to yoga. And I feel it working! There are some old threads on mn if you search.

FolknNorah · 24/06/2014 18:04

I have the Callanetics DVD (well two of them) I really like it. Shall we start together and encourage forceeach other to do it? Grin
I'm like you, haven't seen a loss (in cms at least, I'm not weighing) since week two I think.
I don't recognise the person in the mirror, if I see my reflection in the street I really get a shock. I am desperate to find my self again, I've changed a lot , in really positive ways and I want the exterior to match that.

Fluffycloudland77 · 24/06/2014 18:06

Ok, today I've had

Nuts with soya yoghurt (may was well use them up)
Egg Mayo with 4 slices of cucumber
4 sausages with half a green cabbage and gravy.

Is that ok? Apart from breakfast?

FolknNorah · 24/06/2014 18:26

I haven't had much of an appetite today. So...,
B- BPC (decaf)
L- celery and pate
T- two pork belly strips roasted with cauliflower and broccoli in butter and some spices.
I had to force it down, couldn't face eating the fat and feel sick. Water is as it should be though.

So, not enough has been eaten today, but it's too hot for me. I will try harder tomorrow.

lowcarbforthewin · 24/06/2014 18:54

Seri I have watched my boobs shrink by the month, and it's been like 'but they were fine?' I wanted to direct it to come off my bum, thank you very much.

Fluffy that sounds good. How come 4 slices of cucumber though? You can eat way more than that.

NeverHadANickname · 24/06/2014 19:05

Today could have been better but it's a step in the right direction.

B - BPC
D - I really didn't have time today. I have a really busy week but I have some chicken to take in tomorrow just in case I don't have time again, I can eat it walking to the car.
T - Chicken with skin, mushrooms cooked in butter with cream and a bit of cheese

Pisseslikeahorse · 24/06/2014 19:07

evening all

been a good day just a bit on the crispy side from this mornings run. Nice one trashy, but what happens when the woosh fair visits - you could put the 18 in the 20 and have padded winter trousers Grin

Fluffy Step away from the nuts... its not doing you any good

Going to start posting food again as I need to make sure I don't get the chance to eat any crap or snack.

B. yogurt and cream
L. Chicken salad & mayo
D. Curried Mince mushrooms with asparagus
BPC / probably 11pints of water

Pisseslikeahorse · 24/06/2014 19:10

Suzymoo09 sending you good birthday vibes for the final woosh

Fluffycloudland77 · 24/06/2014 19:18

They were my last nuts! I don't like wasting food & dh won't eat them.

BestIsWest · 24/06/2014 19:32

STS this week. I have eaten a few nuts and strawberries so I will cut those out this week. I also had one lapse on Sunday which I won't go into here. It's the only lapse I've had so far on bootcamp and it was so not worth it. Lesson learned.

I am still struggling with the water I can manage 2 litres but I should be drinking 4 and it just makes me feel sick. Does very weak tea with no milk count? That would bring me up to 3.5 litres.

Pisseslikeahorse · 24/06/2014 19:35

cool. Smile

I found it helps if I deny certain foods but still have them around. Got a jar of mixed seeds and nuts in the cupboard along side my gum. something I could have never done before.
So much of this has been about will power for me and sticking to bootcamp religiously.

Fluffycloudland77 · 24/06/2014 19:42

What's bpc?

FolknNorah · 24/06/2014 19:50

Oh how I wish my boobs would shrink Grin my belly does shrink, (well it did) but my boobs? Nope. No, no way.

Bullet proof coffee, coffee blended with unsalted butter and/or coconut oil. I add cold water to cool it down.
I find my skin and lips and (ahem) bowels are better with the extra oil. Wink

FolknNorah · 24/06/2014 19:55

I also drink mint tea which I think helps with the water intake. Best check though...

Fluffycloudland77 · 24/06/2014 19:55

That doesn't sound appetising if I'm honest.

I have a block of coconut cream, can I add a chunk to my curry tomorrow night? I'm having spinach and chicken.

Seri77 · 24/06/2014 19:57

Yes Norah I'm up for a callanetics pact. What would you suggest?

Lowcarb my boobs remain unchanged. What if I'm shrinking from the face down and will be left haggard with sticky out ribs but still an enormous bum? Shock

lowcarbforthewin · 24/06/2014 20:03

I know, seri, that's possibly my fate!! Teeny tiny upper body, not so teeny tiny lower body. Not a good look.

I do think you shrink from the top down though, have read that's just how it works. Face/neck/boobs first. Then waist, then hips/legs/bum. It's worked like that for me, although I still have lots to come off my arms, and am losing from my legs.

BIWI · 24/06/2014 20:06

Fluffy

Nuts with soya yoghurt (may was well use them up)

Definitely a good idea to ditch the nuts! Did you check the carb count of the yoghurt? Is it full/high fat?

Egg Mayo with 4 slices of cucumber

Egg mayo is perfect low carb food, as long as you have checked the carb count of the mayo and it was full fat. But why only 4 slices of cucumber? Cucumber is a perfect low carb salad ingredient, but 4 slices is nothing!

4 sausages with half a green cabbage and gravy.

Did you check the carb count of the sausages? And was there flour in the gravy?
