Week 8 - Low Carb Bootcamp - Come on Andy!

BIWI · 23/06/2014 07:43

Welcome to week 8 where hopefully the tennis will distract us all from England's performance in the World Cup!

Come and register this week's weigh in on the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness or on your own Weight Tracker

And just a reminder re rule 6 - because I'm a bit of a broken record about telling you all to drink more Grin - here's how much you should be drinking:

6. You must drink a minimum of 2 litres of water per day.

The more weight you have to lose, the more water you should drink. This is from another low carb website

Water is essential to weight loss for those who eat low-carb. The minimum consumed in a day should be:

Your Weight----Litres
140lbs-----2.5
160lbs-----3.0
180lbs-----3.0
200lbs-----3.5
220lbs-----3.5
240lbs-----4.0
260lbs-----4.5
280lbs-----4.5
300lbs-----5.0
320lbs-----5.5
340lbs-----5.5
360lbs-----6.0
380lbs-----6.5
400lbs-----6.5

High levels of ketones in the blood stream can lead to a reduction in ketone production, therefore being well hydrated could aid in keeping the levels low and ketone production ongoing. Consuming enough water can have many other positive side effects: aids your kidneys with the processing of protein, reduces the retention of water, helps with preventing constipation, and reduces the levels of ketones released by your breath, which in-turn will reduce breath odour.

However, drinking a lot of water can mean that you also need to keep an eye on your electrolyte balance. You need to make sure that you are consuming sufficient sodium and potassium. On a low carb diet we can eat more salt, so make sure that you are cooking with salt and adding salt to food, if you like it. Good, low carb, sources of potassium are spinach (raw), avocado, mushrooms, courgettes and asparagus, as well as salmon and yoghurt.

In this hot weather, remember that you will also be sweating a bit more, so you may need to try and squeeze in a little bit more if you possibly can!

Ok cool thanks
I had a bag of the salad leaves today so maybe a vag plus spinach/cauli etc at tea time?

Supermum0203 · 23/06/2014 18:59

Hello everybody!
Did u all have a great weekend? Thanks God for such a fantastic weather..!! :)
My christening went great. Everybody enjoyed the celebration and the food was just right. There was a few salads, crudités with dips and lots of cold meats and a big tray with prawns.
I did very well and my only drink was water, but then we started with the desserts and all my efforts went pear shape. All of the sudden I had a terrible craving about sweet food and I don't want to give more details as I don't want to offend anybody but u can imagine the rest of the night.
Sunday I started ok, back to lc but when I saw the rest of the cake on the fridge.....:( :(
So today I haven't weight myself as didnt feel happy with myself at all. I haven't cheated once since I started lc in April
and out of the blue, twice in two days... pathetic..!!
I haven't eaten anything yet, apart from water as I feel like seven months pregnant... So forgive me my dear friends (BIWI ) as I have sinned :)

Scousadelic · 23/06/2014 19:00

Folk You "arf" at tossed then have a vag plus spinach/cauli!!! Grin

fluffy STEP AWAY FROM THE PEANUTS!!! Glorious little packets of evil carbs!

I'm not jumping up and down in front of a mirror, not even when my ankle is better. I need a sports bra that goes from my neck to my knees!

Food today:

L - 2 leftover mini-burgers, homemade coleslaw
T - Gammon, creamed leeks with cheese and asparagus

I know I'm a touch heavy on processed meat today but meh!

L - random stuff from the fridge, ham, chicken, lettuce dipped into tzatziki mixed with feta (was yum) cucumber slices (can you tell I need to go shopping?)
D - Bolognaise sauce with asparagus tips

One day at a time!

NeverHadANickname · 23/06/2014 19:40

Any chance I can sneak back in? I was here from the start but dropped off at about week 4 ish and I have been too scared to come back on! I keep thinking if I can just get my head back in to it properly then I'll go back to the thread but in reality I need to come back to the thread and then get my head back in to it so here I am.

I found it really hard to think about what I was eating when I was having exams which is a stupid excuse but I really needed to get back to it before now. I'm another one up for another bootcamp if you'll be doing one BIWI.

I thought about starting my own thread so as not to derail this one with my moaning but the support on here is brill and I'll do no more moaning.

So I need to go shopping, get some mayo in or some oil to make some for salads and sort some stuff for evening meals. Back to bootcamp for me.

FolknNorah · 23/06/2014 19:51

Is it ok to just have a bit of melted butter on my salad? I don't much like oils etc.
Also, is a decaf BPC better WOE -wise than caffeinated?

I wouldn't worry about jumping back in, I've done just that Blush.

I'd be up for another bootcamp, I like the strictness and the support. I'm going to post everyday I think, to help keep me focused.

NeverHadANickname · 23/06/2014 19:55

I think I need to post most days to keep me going, even just listing what I've eaten.

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/06/2014 20:12

Right, I'll lose the peanuts & beet root feed it to dh.

Tonight was 8 rashers streaky bacon, one fried egg & about 100g fried mushrooms.

I'm stuffed.

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/06/2014 20:13

What about the choc? 5g carbs per bar.

BIWI · 23/06/2014 20:16

I wouldn't ...

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/06/2014 20:18

Ok. I don't fancy it much anyway tbh.

JimmyCorkhill · 23/06/2014 20:44

My mayo has been rank the last few times I made it. Really bitter. After scientifically upgrading to a posher oil/using room temp eggs/cutting out the mustard I have found the culprit......extra virgin olive oil.

Just thought I'd post in case anyone else has been disappointed and didn't know why.

readyforno2 · 23/06/2014 20:56

Just signing in. Will weigh tomorrow.

BestIsWest · 23/06/2014 21:46

Signing in too. Weighing in the morning

miffy49 · 23/06/2014 22:37

JimmyCorkhill mayo is horrid made with all extra virgin! I got some light olive and use that. If I want a deeper taste I add a bit of the EVOO but not full strength. Sometimes Aldi do one that is slightly darker and that's nice. Its a blend of EVOO and the light oil.

For my oil and vinegar dressing I use walnut oil. I like macadamia but Sainsburys don't always have it. Its expensive too so there are budget restraints! lol

readyforno2 · 23/06/2014 23:21

Just had a proper chance to read the thread.
I'm definitely up for another boot camp. Planning on carrying on as well as I can

FolknNorah · 24/06/2014 06:51

Morning, signing in for the day Hmm Grin.
Am planning a bag of salad for lunch and spinach with roasted cauliflower for tea as today's veg with the pork belly I was going to have yesterday.
I'll be back later on with an actual list of food.

Hope you all have a good day

doineedhelp · 24/06/2014 07:34

Morning all, 2lb off here so that's 7lb in 3 weeks Grin

B - fage yoghurt with spoonful of raspberries and some cream
? - tuna mayo salad
D - chicken breast, broccoli and courgette fried in coconut oil
S - bpc
Water - 3L

StuntNun · 24/06/2014 08:15

I would definitely be up for an extra Bootcamp or even extending this Bootcamp for a few more weeks. After my two weeks on holiday I'm going to need to haul my arse back on the wagon. I'm going to try and follow the rules but short of sneaking a bottle of olive oil in my suitcase I think I'll struggle to get enough fat into my diet while I'm away.

JimmyCorkhill · 24/06/2014 08:20

miffy you have inspired me to try some new oils, thank you Smile

Yes please to extending/another bootcamp. I think I'm just getting the hang of it!!

Seri77 · 24/06/2014 09:03

Still feeling despondent about lack of weight loss and really struggling mentally. In a sod it all moment this morning I made a cracker with cheese as I used to love them. I had to spit it out & bin it, it was so horrible (dont worry I saved the cheese).

So I have no choice but to keep on keeping on, even though I'm not currently losing weight. I'm going to think about some adjustments, reducing or cycling calorie intake, intermittent fasting, carb cycling. And mostly try to remember what I did last bootcamp when it worked so well.

From July I'm going to have a child free day per week. I will do some exercise. I've got my weights out of the garage, I need to find my skipping rope, I've started callanetics already and hope to find a Pilates class.

Bah. I just want to look like myself again.

Today's menu:

B: coffee & cream, small portion cheese, boiled egg with butter
L: prawn & mayo salad with avocado
D: broccoli with chicken, bacon, mushroom & creme fraiche sauce
S: cup of tea
1L water in already

lowcarbforthewin · 24/06/2014 09:30

Stunt l literally took a jar of coconut oil on holiday with me last year. Had a spoonful of it when I needed more calories (there wasn't much low carb food there). It really helped.

EwanHoozami · 24/06/2014 10:31

Seri sorry you're feeling glum. Exercise can only be a good idea, for mental as well as physical health. I'm intrigued by Callanetics, how are you getting on with it?

I haven't weighed in yet, but (and it's week 3 for me) I feel less bloated and more sprightly.

I seem to be on a 2-meal a day routine at the moment - typically a spinach and ham omelette mid-morning and a big tasty oily salad early evening. Not sure if that's good or bad Confused

and water water water water, with slices of cucumber.
