Wow! So much nattering that we've filled up the thread before the end of the week!

Here's the link to the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness for tomorrow morning.

And, for the Weight Tracker I'm not quite sure what happens with this link I think that you will be asked to enter your weight for this week and then you will see your individual graph.

I hope you all had a good week last week, and very good luck for week 2.

Blizy how completely awful, you are so very brave to cope with that. (and so are you Snowie from the sounds of things).

Supersal you CAN comfort-eat on this WOE as long as its a low-carb snack. Cheese, ham, greek yog, cream, eggs-in-cups, there's going to be something that works for you as a comfort snack. Don't go hungry. You basically didn't have breakfast or lunch, which DOES sound miserable. PS houmous is a bit carby

Squeeze I have no idea of the answers to questions 1 & 2; 3: I reckon the tomato sauce will be OK - check labels on the tin - remember onion carbs can mount up quickly!

Sayra my mum eats a "healthy" diet and is getting broader and broader - it is normal carb level mixed with low calories so her body thinks there's a famine, is storing all the fat it can.

QueenofallIsee · 23/01/2014 23:04

been a hard week to low carb..travelling with work & early starts. had to go with carrot sticks in desperation but I guess thats ok. trying to exercise as often as poss for 30mins which I am proud of. Hoping for a decent loss..really want to be slimmer for a wedding in April so will keep going!

NellVarnish · 23/01/2014 23:31

PrimalLass - yum! I love egg in a cup - we used to call it a chooky egg, delish!

(Also West of Scotland)

I'm another who hasn't lost an ounce since weigh in on Monday and who also needs a great big jobby (tmi). Grin

Cider's post was brilliant and I'm going to try to remember to chill out and not stress about it.

The trend is our friend!

NellVarnish · 23/01/2014 23:36

Oh it was you Sayra with the egg in a cup! Chooky egg tomorrow for me - thanks for reminding me about that West Coast delicacy. Smile

Piscivorus · 23/01/2014 23:45

We also have egg in a cup in Liverpool, it is great favourite in our house. We always added a small blob of ketchup but that now tastes too sweet to me

I just wish I could throw off this cold and sleep a bit better

NellVarnish · 23/01/2014 23:58

Blizy that's so sad, am thinking of you. Thanks

NellVarnish · 24/01/2014 00:01

I've been full of the cold all week too Piscivorus, am scunnered with it now. How much does snot weigh? Maybe I'll see a loss when the cold goes. Wink

Morning everyone.

Thanks to everyone who isn't seeing losses or is having a bad time. Cider had it bang on - that post ought to be printed off and hung near the scales! We're used to hearing about LC and wondrous losses but actually, in the context of the wider population, anyone who finishes a year even a pound less than they finished the previous year is doing pretty damn well. LC seems to be a pretty good tool for achieving that end and sooo many people seem able to keep it off.

I'me having a manic week - we're having a staycation with is more of a "run around like a blue arsed fly trying to get jobs done -cation", including finishing decorating a room before friends arrive tomorrow. Ww have two lovely hinderances at 3yo and 1yo so nothing is done quickly in this house!

The scales have been up and down this week - we went away for a couple of days that the beginning and so ate out for about 5 meals running. I didn't break BC rules but put on 2lb - I bet anything there were hidden sugars in what I was eating. It went away when I got home and started eating as before. Not sure that I'll see any overall loss this week though!

Thanks and good luck to everyone for today

GermanGirlinLDN · 24/01/2014 07:10

I weigh in on Fridays with my Personal trainer. I have lost NO weight since last Friday despite being strict, drinking enough water and exercising. What am I doing wrong? I could cry.

Can someone please give me the talk? I'm 3 lb up from Tuesday!!

One thing- I'm pretty sure I'm still ignoring hunger cues and am eating past them (if I 'fancy' a yoghurt after dinner, for example). I was expecting to naturally not want to stuff myself, but I still do. Do I need to work on this?

BLIZY sorry for your loss, I had problems getting past 5 months and although I've now got 2 lovely, almost, grown up kids I still remember the times I lost and when they would've been born snd wonder what-if, hugs to you and DH - I forgot mine was grieving too but we never talked about it properly Sad

Aldi do 70 & 85% black chocolate, 5 little bars in a pack and 1 bar would last me all week last time I lc'd.

pisci whereabouts are you, I'm now in woolyback land so the kids sre placky scousers Grin

GermanGirlinLDN · 24/01/2014 08:11

Woolfey
Yes, I did pre BC warm-up but wasn't 100% strict then but still lost a few lbs. I guess it's the three week plateau then. Hmm

Mlig · 24/01/2014 08:14

Blizy, sorry it's such an awful time for you, but just be kind to yourself and take the time you need xx

Crabby to keep the decision mine I need to lose 3 stone by March/April, I have a total aim of about 6 stone. I have thought loads about it last night though, and I'm a bit more chilled out now, only a bit though lol. I'm trying my best on this woe and im fully sold on it, so if I don't get there maybe it's because it's the wrong decision,.

I am however sold on this woe, and I'm not sure why I'm not losing weight. I'm very very overweight and need to lose some, so I'm thinking I'll give it 4 weeks, if I'm still not losing I'll have to find another way because I need to get the weight off...

I've ordered ketostix to check that. I think I'll stay on boot camp a while longer, and maybe cut down a bit on my veg. Have you any idea how I can increase my fat? I don't drink coffee so can't have bpc, and I'm not great with fatty cuts of meat, except bacon..

prettybird · 24/01/2014 08:22

Miig - I have a morning cup of rooibos (redbush tea) into which I stir a teaspoon of coconut oil. I use the HTC oil which is flavorless. It adds a wee bit of "roundness" to the tea and conditions your lips Smile

Is that something that would work for you as an alternative to BPC.

captainmummy · 24/01/2014 08:28

Germangirl - do you want to list out your meals for the past few days so we can have a look? Although as you say, it may just be 3rdweek plateau (great phrase - I don't like using 'stall' as it is only a stall if it happens for several weeks in a row)

Lets see if this posts once or 12 times... Blush

Piscivorus · 24/01/2014 08:29

The 3rd week stall seems to catch every bootcamp out. Even though we all know logically that weight loss is not everything, the headline numbers are a great motivator and an instant reward.

I think it has hit sooner this time for some because of the soft start weeks. As an old hand, I promise you that if you keep going it will right itself.

Fluckety Happy Carby Birthday! Flowers

Ruby thank you for those kind words (what a wonderfully supportive place this thread is! Smile). It was a case of needs must with the home ed, as DD wasn't happy at school. She was diagnosed with Aspergers last year and I've been struggling with the decision of whether to try her at secondary next September. My head was saying yes and she was willing to give it a go (we looked around our local school and were really impressed) but my in my heart/gut I don't think she'd cope with it. The final piece of the jigsaw was the home ed 'inspector' (that makes it sound much more scary than it is) from the LEA came yesterday for her annual session of coffee and chatting visit. She's seen DD 3 years in a row now and was a teacher for most of her career so knows plenty about children. I asked her whether she thought DD would do better at school or at home and she feels strongly that she'd be happier and do better at home. So that's that, I've just committed myself to 5/6 more years of home ed! Shock [do we have an emoticon for blind terror?] I've also just committed to run a science club for her and 9 of her friends, [I need that emoticon again] Grin so I need to spend February planning that and other learning plans.
Re Minecraft party... i'm not doing anything spectacular this year as it's all a bit stretched with her going away. I've ordered this cake topper and I'll make a cake to put it on. The kids have a fortnightly minecraft club so I'm just hosting it here on her birthday and will give them pizzas, party food and cake. They amuse themselves so I don't have to worry about games or anything, thankfully.

I find the cost of low carbing balances out as
A) I get back into the way of eating and there's less waste.
B) I'm not buying expensive carbs like fancy pasta, shop-bought desserts, biscuits, grapes. We eat quite a lot of meat always though, so I guess I don't see that much of a difference. I buy cheaper cuts of meat though (never chicken breasts, for instance) and look for what's on offer or reduced.

Cider excellent post! Steel and Stunt very interesting theories about repairing and resetting the metabolism/adaptation to LC.

Happy Yes ff yoghurt and cinnamon is fine. Enjoy!

[Willie] you are our spreadsheet heroine! Flowers

LittleMiss 17L of diet coke per week! Shock Shock Shock I think you had a drink problem! Wink Seriously though, that must have been stripping your insides - have you ever seen what happens to an old penny when you drop it in coke?!

Gatorade I've woken up and been properly awake before 7am for the last 3 days now. DP can't believe it. It must be something to do with the low carb as this is most unusual for me!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 24/01/2014 08:34

Morning all :)

Huge hugs for you blizy Am so sorry, I'm thinking of your beautiful daughter and you here, Much love Xx

Thanks
captainmummy · 24/01/2014 08:36

Mlig - please keep on keeping on! The weight will come off - and no oter 'diet' will be as good for your health, or work any quicker. I get that you are stressing about your deadline, but added stress is not going to help.
Actually, reading these threads does throw up how much 'emotional eating' we do. It's not a criticism, but we should be aware of when we are eating to comfort ourselves (cos food is so good at doing that!) and when we eating to fuel ourselves. Comfort eating is a huge cause of weight-gain (but we all know that)
The other phrase that comes up regularly on BC is 'mindful eating'. Eat it if you must, but mindfully - be aware of why you are doing so.

If you are drinking the water, you are diluting the ketones that Ketostix pickup - tp the extent that they will only show a very pale colour anyway - they are a waste of money IMO.

Mlig - be aware that bacon is a 'processed' meat, (processed with Nitrates) and shouldn't be eaten at every meal. Sausages are also processed. Is there any other meat you can eat?

Prettybird - my breakfast weekdays is roiibos tea with coconut oil! Fills me up till lunch (unlike the cereals I used to eat; even porridge only kept me going til about 11am)

CrabbyWinterBottom · 24/01/2014 08:38

Pops

  1. Not sure tbh. It might be that you are retaining water. On the other hand, I think once we get used to the increased volume of water we're consuming we pee less often. Someone once described the image of a bone dry sponge - the water just runs off it to start with and it takes a while for it to draw in water and absorb it. That's a most unscientific analogy and probably no help at all.
  2. I wouldn't, personally, use a carby marinade, as that'll end up in the finished dish. Can you adapt it to be lower carb?
  3. Fine so long as you choose the lowest carb tinned tomatoes. I listed the carb counts of several brands on the questions thread early on.
CrabbyWinterBottom · 24/01/2014 08:41

Blizy so sorry for your loss. Flowers Be very kind and gentle with yourself and give yourself the space to make good healthy choices without berating yourself if sometimes you fall face first into a vat of chocolate instead.

CrabbyWinterBottom · 24/01/2014 08:56

Mlig i think 3 stone by March/April is quite a big ask on any diet tbh. If you gave up this WOE and crash dieted it off then it's really not likely to stay off. I know it's horrendously dispiriting when you stick to the rules and the weight doesn't fall off as fast as you'd like, but I thought it was interesting what folks were discussing upthread about how your metabolism needs to reset itself, even more so if you've had erratic dieting /carb binging in the past and your body doesn't know where the hell it's at in terms of when the next starvation period is going to come. If this is a sustainable and enjoyable way for you to eat, I'd really say stick with it and let your body get used to being properly nourished and not filled full of carbs and low fat nonsense (assuming you've followed those diets before?).
