We can only do the best we can. No point in going on housework threads if you're a working LP who never has a break from the kids. Or if you're a SAHM LP with small kids who can't get to the gym.

So, a thread for us to start the New Year with good intentions and to juggle it around everything else we have to do Smile.

  • I banned Minecraft today and tomorrow after some shocking behaviour (kicking each other in the supermarket) the dc's had a burst of enthusiasm, dysoning and tidying up to get back in my good books.
  • I have managed to get out for a few runs over Xmas. We stayed with my mum for a couple of days so I went out then.

Here's to a positive start to 2015.

I have a kitchen to tidy again.

it's like groundhog day.

BlackeyedSusan · 02/02/2015 11:02
Grin

fattymcfatfat · 02/02/2015 11:36

Haha. Well I was right.....the fecker was contagious. ...scarlet fever....of all things

Starlightbright1 · 02/02/2015 12:47

what a knob head...Can only assume he felt ill too... Hopefully you and the children are fine xx

BlackeyedSusan · 02/02/2015 15:47

what an idiot! I hope the children will not catch it. how long was he there beforee you sent him away with a flea in his ear?

fattymcfatfat · 02/02/2015 15:53

Not long but unfortunately with he was contagious before he got the rash. Im hoping the kids dont catch it, but nhs site says they will get the rash by the end of this week if they do and that it shouldnt affect bump. Im still going to speak to mw when I see her but yep bloody idiot. ..I went mad, had to tell my mum incase one of mine has it and passed it on to my bbrother etc.....grr....Angry

meglet · 02/02/2015 18:17

Grin blackeyed I tidied it, and it's messy again. I've been doing some batch cooking though. couple of cheesy, potato and leek bakes and I've made the cheese sauce and lentil bolognese so I can put together a lasagne tomorrow evening.

OP posts:
BlackeyedSusan · 03/02/2015 12:18

ahh... lentil bolognaise... mmmmm. which lentils do you use?

I batch cook lentils and frreze them to drop into sauces etc another time.

anyway, I need to get on. i did a bit yesterday and pulled a box out of the heap to recycle, and dealt with the contents of a couple of carrier bags. I am edging towards finding my chest of drawers again. off to go and sort out.

fattymcfatfat · 03/02/2015 14:01

Oh yum sounds good. Im making a thai green curry for tonights tea and I will have enough left to freeze for another time. Im quite good with that. It annoys me when people do the whole "im on benefits and cant afford to feed my kids" crap. My "friend" tried this with me. I wasnt happy as I can feed my kids a home cooked meal every night for tea yet she cant even afford a pack of nuggets??! And she gets more than me as she has mh probs! I would live toknow where this money goes? Ok rant over lol

Starlightbright1 · 03/02/2015 18:37

Thai green curry is one of may favourites...

I think some people struggle with not knowing how to cook meals from scratch.. I usually buy the veg that is at aldi or Morrions on special ..Same with meat. I usually look at ready meals and think I can easily make that myself..however I tend to buy lasagne as that one is too much effort.

That said DS had pizza for tea..Not home made straight out the freezer..lol

fattymcfatfat · 03/02/2015 19:06

I know that but when she says her dds havent eaten anything but weetabix for three days!!!! I was disgusted with her. I know not eveeveryone has the time to cook from scratch all the time but as I said those poor kids went without a hot meal cs she couldnt even be bothered to nip to the shop and grab some nuggets and chips!

fattymcfatfat · 03/02/2015 19:10

And she plays the whole its sooo difficult being a single parent aand got her other friend to take ger dds for the last 2 nights and days! (I saw her three nights ago and she told me xxxx was having them to give her a break!....then had the cheek to tell me that because my house isn't as tidy as hers I should 'get my act together'. Lol.....

meglet · 03/02/2015 19:45

black tinned green lentils. think they're the same as puy lentils?

my other project for the week is banana and oat breakfast muffins. I'm SO over dark winter mornings Sad I need some different breakfasts to make mornings easier.

OP posts:
Starlightbright1 · 03/02/2015 21:27

Well your house won't be as tidy as your kids are there and also you have been busy cooking not pouring a bowl of cereal.

When I am talking about the people not been able to cook ..I am not talking about people not feeding their kids at all or just cereal...At the end of the day if you can't cook beans on toast or a can of soup is simple enough

fattymcfatfat · 03/02/2015 21:33

The problem is she can cook! She cooks for herself and her (now ex) dp! And she wonders why I dont really speak to her anymoreConfused. There have been plenty of times where I have made beans on toast! I like it and when im not feeling well its quick and easy!
Meglet...I really want banana muffins now!

meglet · 03/02/2015 22:29

there's a couple near me, the dad works in sainsburys, but they buy their dc's fizzy drinks and chocolates from the corner shop every morning. I often see them on the way to school. why would you do that? not only can they get reduced food I'm sure they get a discount (my sister did when she worked there).

so, house is a bit messy but we're all well fed Grin .

OP posts:
BlackeyedSusan · 03/02/2015 23:04

see, that is why my house is a mess not to do with being exhausted having a son with asd and being a lazy mare at all all that cooking from scratch.

tonight was broccoli, half a large courgette, red onion, peas and sweet corn in white sauce with spaghetti. cooked i n rotation on one ring. (one of hte back rings does not work and I don't use the two front ones for safety reasons. )

white sauce cheating. cook veggies in rape seed oil, then add a spoon full of flour to the pan, coat the veggies. pour in half a pint of milk. stir until thickened.

cheap too. (10p sweet corn, 10p peas, frozen, approx 100g of each) courgette, approx 25p) broccolli, 32p pint of milk possibly, 22p; red onion 14p spoon full of flour, less than 10p; wholewheat spagetti. possible about a quarter of a pack so about 19p less than £1.30p for the ingredients.

(rape seed oil is quite cheap as well. cheaper than olive oil)

oh my goodness. if that is right, school can stick that in there £2 per meal hat and smoke it.

actually, I am going to weigh things out next time rather than guestimate the quantities so I can calculate properly.

fattymcfatfat · 04/02/2015 10:49

List of things I need to do today!
Change sheets on beds
Wash pots (and put them away)
Clean toilet
Clean upstairs bathroom
Wipe all sides in all rooms!
Hoover bedrooms
Hoover stairs
clear cobwebs
Clean bin (that thing is filthy)
Clean doors and skirting boards.
Make bolognese for tea
Wash pots again
Put dvd's back where they belong probably about 10 bloody times
Tidy all toys away
Sweep and wipe living room (laminate)
Sweep and mop kitchen and downstairs loo
Brush dog (long haired alsatian)
Bath dd, brush teeth and into bed with stories and bottle
Ds in shower, teeth brushed jamas stories and snuggle time.
All this.with spd so reduced mobility at times, 2 kids and a feckin annoying ex who has already phoned me today to tell me he is cutting down on how much he sees the kids and to tell me im a bad mum and he is phoning ss on me....
If I was that bad surely he would want more access to make sure they were ok????

BlackeyedSusan · 04/02/2015 11:19

do the worst things first.

don't expect to get it all done.

he is an idiot.

I am cold. I need to move and get on and tidy. I just want to go to bed though and hibernate. I have taken the bins down and tied up the bag.

my list is shorter.

wash up
put shopping away
do a load of washing.
a bit of tidying up if I get chancew.

fattymcfatfat · 04/02/2015 11:37

Well so far I have emptied the bin! Dd is being ....lets say adventurous today. She has now discovered she can climbbonto the couch if she uses the dog as a step...and then she is trying to hang upside down over the side!!! So not done much...will probably get most of it done when dcs in bed!

BlackeyedSusan · 04/02/2015 11:52

washing is on.
kettle is on for the pots.

BlackeyedSusan · 04/02/2015 12:49

half the washing up done.
recycling... a lot collected and put in the bag by the door.
more shopping put away.
some laundry moved to radiator to dry.

fattymcfatfat · 04/02/2015 13:29

Erm...I made a brew!
Im really bad I need to do busy work!!

BlackeyedSusan · 04/02/2015 13:52

washing hung.

pots finished. they will drip dry on their own!

going to put the heating off and have a quick power nap before going on the two hour school run. leave at half an hour, before end of school drive to park, pick up . hang around for 50 minutes for dd to finish her after school activity. walk back to car, strap in etc. drive home in the rush hour traffic. put car in garage, persuade ds to carry his bag, walk to flat across forecourt and up two flights of stairs. 2 sodding hours.

fattymcfatfat · 04/02/2015 14:12

It takds me 40-50 minutes on a good morning to get ds to school (its a ten minute walk but with a pram and a 6yo it takes longer) and gome again. 20 minutes there and back in the morning and 20 mins there (by this point i just relish having dd strapped up and unable to cause mayhem so set off earlier and dawdle ) then half hour back in afternoon. Ds loves to dawdle after school and never carries his bag, that gets hung on the pram handle! Cheeky bugger!
