We can only do the best we can. No point in going on housework threads if you're a working LP who never has a break from the kids. Or if you're a SAHM LP with small kids who can't get to the gym.

So, a thread for us to start the New Year with good intentions and to juggle it around everything else we have to do Smile.

  • I banned Minecraft today and tomorrow after some shocking behaviour (kicking each other in the supermarket) the dc's had a burst of enthusiasm, dysoning and tidying up to get back in my good books.
  • I have managed to get out for a few runs over Xmas. We stayed with my mum for a couple of days so I went out then.

Here's to a positive start to 2015.

already had enough coffee.. too much and erm the school run becomes uncomfortable. Wink Blush

I have: put pots away; cleaned the sink and draining board, drainer and bowl; started on the washing up; bagged up the junk modelling for school.

got a sore finger as I jammed a splinter up under the nail. think it came out again but it makes typing housework tricky.

meglet · 30/01/2015 13:52

will have a tidy when I've finished lunch.

I roped In my little helpers, ds and my lil bro! House is tidy-ish lol

BlackeyedSusan · 30/01/2015 19:22

not tidy here, though I have been tidying looking for dd's watch which ds has hidden/lost/knocked off something.

fattymcfatfat · 30/01/2015 19:48

The jiys of children
..remind me why we do this????

lizardqueenie · 31/01/2015 07:36

Wide awake early as even though Dd stayed with her GP's last night for the first time (woohoo!) she J's trying out gymnastics at 9am this morning.

Had a rare night out with an old friend last night & feeling slightly jaded.

Haven't posted for ages but this week got the hole in the bathroom ceiling that's been there for over a year Shock plastered & repaired. Best £70 I've spent & now I can paint when it's dry.

Need to figure out what's next on my hit list. Thank you for everyone's packed lunch tips- def going to try this next week.

fattymcfatfat · 31/01/2015 09:18

Ooh night out I could do with one of those! Probably wont get one until next year though! Or maybe the year after??? Will be redecorating at some point in the next couple of years

BlackeyedSusan · 31/01/2015 11:43

I've got one booked for when ds is 18, just another 11 and a half years to wait then... Grin

I spent a lot of yesterday looking for dd's watch. still not found. will have to write to santa and find out where to get a replacement.

I have sorted out ww3 over a lego model, cleaned up a tummy upset in the bedroom, and have been doctoring my finger which is sore and a little swollen as I jammed a splinter up under the finger nail yesterday. I am soaking and cutting back the nail gradually to let out the splinter/infection. it is not as bad as the sore toe I got so am hoping it sorts itself out or at least does not take a turn for the worst until monday when I do not have to queue with the children at the walk-in/a and e.

meglet · 31/01/2015 12:21

I'm trying to clear the dining room table so the dc's can do workbooks this weekend. It's assessments next week.

What I wouldn't give for desk space and a small art and craft table. it's all dumped on the dining room table.

Well the ex turned up today with a red mark on his arm. I asked about it and he said he had just been scratching. ..so I though nothing of it...until it started to spread. He has ended up with it all down hos arms and then he told me he noticed ityesterday on his stomach! AAbsolutely fuming as he has turned up with this and could be contagious so not only could my kids catch it I need to know what it is to make sure it can't harm the unborn baby! Feckin ridiculous ive sent him packing to primary care (made him get an appointment) and told him I need to know what it is and if ge is contagious not to come anywhere near my kids until its gone!

lizardqueenie · 31/01/2015 15:08

Oh no fatty! Hope you get to the bottom of what it is? Maybe an allergic reaction? But you are right to be cautious.

We are back from our gymnastics/ soft play marathon, not sure who is more tired, dd or me. Have done some washing, tidied the house not that it actually looks like it and dd is happily playing on the floor with her peppa pigs whilst I drink a coffee. I think I need to come up with a to do list of jobs that need doing around the house. That way I can keep it
On my phone & dip in & out getting jobs done in the time I have rather than pondering want needs doing next. Of course there are those awful jobs that are very obvious but as the clutter starts to clear I know I still have stuff to do even if it's not hugely obvious.

Want an early night tonight but have invited a friend over. Oh and well done my ex- he's managed to both do the car tax AND pay money into the account this month with into a weeks worth of nagging- this could be a new record Wink

fattymcfatfat · 31/01/2015 15:36

A bath (if I can get in and out without damaging myself) and early to bed for me tonight. Just found out that hes not going to find out what this rash is, hes going to meet his friend instead!!!! Sometimes he forgets he has me as a friend on fb! Flaming hell I never really noticed how much of a fucktard he is when I was with him. I mean honestly why???? Ggrrrrr so annoyed right now! oh well off to do the pots now

BlackeyedSusan · 31/01/2015 16:33

well today has been mainly the routine jobs of preventing it getting worse. cleaning the toilet, dealing with poo (dc's have additional needs which require help and potties) cleaning up the gunk under the bin. (liquidised something that went off in the non working fucking hotpoint not refridgerating or freezing insulated cupboard because it dies not deserve the name of fridge) changing the ice blocks in the fridge washing up, washing, sorting out world war three over a lego model trying to stop ds having meltdowns, trying to check the contents of a parcel from 50 miles away, ringing ex to see if he can pop in at my mums on the way to check said parcel.

ex rang at 2.30 to say that he was ready to leave, so should have arrived by 4.30 if I had not diverted him.

oh well more time to get on and do cleaning and tidying, and less time for having a row as he has annoyed me. he should be here for tea and bed time.

hope it is nothing contagious.

Starlightbright1 · 31/01/2015 18:27

My Day started really well... I was waiting for new cooker and it was due between 7 am and 7pm..Had text this am saiying it would be between 7.50 and 11.50... so got up pulled old cooker out and scrubed walls and floor hidden by cooker... Did quick ceral breakfast for DS..Started homework and turned up at 8.30....Homework was finished by 9am ..miracle of miracles... So went got haircut, holiday money and did shopping before wasting the day trying to find boys sandals in Janary and failing...
Dyed hair, done a load of washing and made home made Chinese to be healthier and cheaper...

FattyMc...I would be furious but if it was more likely to be an allergy.

BlackeyedSusan · 31/01/2015 18:44

home made chinese, sounds lovely.

I have cleaned and tidied on and off all day. I will try to write a list to see if it sounds like much because quite frankly, it does not look like much.

wiped down the cupboard doors near the bin. (one was grim)
put a few things away from the kitchen.
put one bag of groceries away
wiped the worst of the kitchen floor. (this was really grim under the bin and took a while.)
one load of washing done and hung, one in the machine.
lunches made
pots put away, washing up done
made homemade hummous (took a while)
googled info for dd's homework.
cleaned loo
changed ice blocks in fridge
cleaned potties
arranged for delivery of the computer to be checked. (rang mum and ex several times)
put the bin bags and recycling in bags outside the front door for ex to take down.
sorted out snacks, lunches drinks
put some clothes in a bag for friends ds
picked up stuff in the hall as they scattered the post.
took dry clothes off the airer.

ok so that is not too bad. just the place looks a mess.

fattymcfatfat · 31/01/2015 18:57

Well.my day gets better and better! I slipped on the stairs and have twisted my ankle! I know ex is probably not contagious but you would think he would be a bit more concerned about his kids! Its always better to be safe than sorry especially around young children and pregnant women! Its like their health isnt a priority to him!. As I said I know he's probably not contagious but its the principle of it.
Blackeyed.....yiu have done more than me I have spent most of my day putting nappies back where they belong, and watching thomas the bloody tank engine with dd! Oh and on mn of course whenever I can sneak it in without one of the dcs spotting me doing something that doesn't involve them!

Starlightbright1 · 31/01/2015 20:36

The things you have done Blackeyedsusan are what I call the revolving door stuff...IT has to be done but shows very little difference housewise which makes it difficult to find motivation when you don't see any difference. Esp as you know the jobs you have done have been undone...

I have just spent an hour reading with my DS and we have finished awful aunty by David walliams... So need to go and jump in the bath and get my washing out the washer...Still need to wash up after my homecooked mea.

fattymcfatfat · 01/02/2015 12:34

How do I end up with so much washing to do???

BlackeyedSusan · 01/02/2015 13:40

revolvig door stuff, yes, yes... but think of the mess if it were not done, no, look at the mess in my room where it has not been done after dad dies, ds was diagnosed with autism, my mum had a breakdown and went into a home and school were being arses about ds's diagnosis.

washing multiplies overnight Fmff

meglet · 01/02/2015 15:10

fatty i decided it's because their clothes get bigger. A laundry basket or airer filled with dinky 1 yr old clothes is far less imposing than primary aged clothes.

OP posts:
meglet · 01/02/2015 15:13

same goes for cooking. when the dc's were little I could batch cook, get loads of portions tucked away in the freezer and not have to fanny about cooking very often.

now they can demolish a roast dinner and scoff even a big tray of roast potatoes in one sitting. no leftovers therefore I need to cook again the next day. It's driving me mad having a small kitchen Angry

OP posts:
fattymcfatfat · 01/02/2015 15:27

That is so true. I have a smallish kithen and between the kids under my feet and the dog I cant move!

BlackeyedSusan · 01/02/2015 22:18

fuck. just found the children's uniforms scrunched up on the floor and a sharp piece of broken coat hanger. tfw ex has been for the day and has knocked off/allowed them to knock off their drying uniform. he dropped the washing basket on the pile of coat hangers that was waiting for the laundry to be hung and broken one of the very few trouser hangers leaving sharp bits of plastic lying about. I have already had a wobbly as I trod on a toy, twisted my ankle, knee and hip and nearly flattened ds. I am sick to death of him letting the children run riot while he is here. I am sick to death of being the responsible parent and I am sick to death of his attitude that it is not all a big deal. it is very much like chinese water torture. one drip at a time, and he does not see the cumulative effect of his actions.

thankfully, they did not have the added imput of ironing. I don't iron. dd will sit on stuff, ds will trow stuff about and screw it up before they get dressed. what is the point? however, it wouldhave been nice if a weeks worth of uniforms was not scrunched up to begin with.

fattymcfatfat · 02/02/2015 09:45

Sounds like you had a fun day yesterday. Ive woken up this morning feeling absolutely shattered and run down so I think im going to leave housework for today.

meglet · 02/02/2015 10:57

I have a kitchen to tidy again.

it's like groundhog day.
