Sj, hope ds1 is feeling better. And don't worry, that was the first good night we've had, though he did it again last night!

Am wondering what to do today, Kew is closed.

mygreatauntgriselda4christmas · 24/12/2008 14:05

Closed??? Its meant to only lose for tomorrow - have they changed their policy

Thanks for the cards everyone who sent them...MrsR sent one with 5 babies on, three o whom looked just like her DS, the Fat Toddler and Kew's DS

Am actually ready for Christmas now - just 4 more cards to deliver locally and a swim this afternoon, then I shall succumb to an alcoholic haze and a Waitrose curry for all

slng · 24/12/2008 19:09

Just had a bastardised Mongolian hotpot using our tiny little rice cooker. Quite fun, but not very successful with LOs who can't understand that things that just came out of a boiling pot are hot ... We will have less exotic fare next time...

Must wrap pressies now. Merry Christmas all!

Happy Christmas everyone!

mygreatauntgriselda4christmas · 26/12/2008 12:43

Merry Christmas!!

Did you all get nice things?

As usual it is the large boxes which are being played with in our house, rather than they toys they contained

Having a tres lazy day today

sparklyxmasfairy · 26/12/2008 16:43

hello all I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas

we had a great time with all the relatives and thankfully both journeys were speedy and trouble free

now for some rest

slng · 27/12/2008 14:17

Good morning/afternoon/whatever!

Hope everyone well and have nice pressies and wallowing in smugness of having given other people joy - that's what I've been trying to persuade DS1. He gave DS2 a toy bus and spent all of yesterday and today trying to get him to "share"... I gave him the standard spiel about the joy of giving etc etc but he doesn't seem convinced. 5-year-olds are not so easily conned.

Anyway. Waiting for visitors to turn up for lunch. They are stuck in some massive traffic somewhere down south. Oh well. At least it's not us. Stuck in the traffic jam, that is.

hello slightly freaked today went to Ikea and will probably go again tomorrow
and dh has gone all funny
not sure what brought all of that 'let's make a plan about babies and new place' thing on, why can't we shamble along as usual?

maybe it was something in the water up north!

ComeOVeneer · 27/12/2008 22:09

Hi all, sorry I haven't been around for ages, RL has really been crazy. My baby is now 4 . He had a fab birthday and we have had a lovely xmas break down at my parents, just back this evening. Hope everyone is well and all had a fab christmas too. Will try and catch up over the next few days. Any major news?

rosmerta · 28/12/2008 08:57

Hi all, hope everyone had a lovely christmas. We had a very relaxed day, my parents were down, my mum did all the cooking & ds1 spent the whole day in his pjs!

Best comment came from ds1 in church on Christmas Eve. We took him to see the nativity scene & his comment was 'Where are the pigs'? .

Auntie, sorry I missed your post but yep Kew was closed Xmas Eve & Day.

mygreatauntgriselda4christmas · 28/12/2008 10:18

Pigs in Bethlehem??? Tee Hee

Sparkly we need to "do" Ikea a need new bed for DS1, but don't know if I can face it. Do you go to the Wembley one?

Lordy I feel like doing nothing today!!

sparklyxmasfairy · 28/12/2008 10:43

ros LOL

auntie it was ok yesterday we went early and even took sandwiches, heavy traffic on way back but ok
back again today while we still have the car

haven't been out running for a week, caught some bug and have sore ear and throat but dh gave me a fancy running watch all bells and whistles and I can't wait to try it out

but first Ikea

rosmerta · 28/12/2008 12:57

Funnily enough, I was thinking about going to Ikea as well for some bits & pieces but thought it would be manic!

SJ99 · 28/12/2008 15:04

Hello all

Christmas was nice and quiet, just the 4 of us at home, pity we've all got colds though - both DC are suffering, DS1 seems to have got over his fever though. Good day out to my bro's for Boxing day. DH made Jamie's turkey pie with leftovers, was pretty yum

Ros - LOL at pigs comments

Sfx - Ikea indeed
Just back from Kingston, wasn't as manic as I thought it would be. Had to have one last look in Woolies, there really isn't much left

pcworld · 28/12/2008 18:56

Ooh, hello everyone as I emerge from a sea of plastic, noisy toys ... - good to hear about various good times and relaxation etc. Was pretty much the same here, despite constant illness. It was a lovely first Christmas with ds Back to reality tomorrow as dh returns to work By the way, my clementine cake was a disaster! Popped in to see a neighbour just a couple of doors up and when I came out of her house I could smell the burning! Frigging cake was half burnt on one side with t'other half-cooked! Nil points to Nigella for that one.

mygreatauntgriselda4christmas · 28/12/2008 21:13

at your cake PC world!!

SFX did you all survive Ikea today? My min wants to go but body aint willing

Had a 2 hr swim today - so much easier than a visit to Ikea LOL!!

SJ Cristmas sounds nice

Happy first Christmas to mini Ros, mini PC, mini SJ and mini Xoxo

sparklyxmasfairy · 28/12/2008 21:16

ikea trip quite successful dd was having none of it and opted to stay in the creche while we darted about, she is wise

pc the clementine cake is a bit of a bugger as it definitely needs covering with foil toward the end of cooking time

SJ hope it is all on the mend now

dh is off to work tomorrow after a few days off, he is very cranky indeed, shall ignore him for the rest of the evening

will get dd to Kew tomorrow should anyone like to join us

SushiMummy · 29/12/2008 07:47

Morning all. Hope you all had a nice Xmas.

MIL was not as bad as I thought and relieved to see her walking with help of zimmer frame. Took us 8 hours to drive home, so glad to be home. Our house is now filled with bulky, noisy toys [sighs]. Off to Japan in two weeks, can't wait!

I'm having a day off this Wednesday and thinking of taking DS to KG. Anyone around?

rosmerta · 29/12/2008 08:24

Morning all,

Another one here with lots of plastic, noisy toys!

Sushi, I might manage KG on Weds. Were you thinking am or pm?

pcworld · 29/12/2008 08:48

Sparkly, but I did cover it with foil! (Petulant emoticon) - think I went wrong as while I used the correct size of tin, I ought to have built up the sides with foil as it really was full to the brim. Oh well.

We might manage Kew today, possibly .... {lazy emoticon!!} What time are you going at?

AtheneNoctua · 29/12/2008 09:09

Morning! Today is the first day of my last week of work at current employer. Yippee!!! :-)

How was everyone's Christmas?

Ours was nice. Kids got loads of toys, which they were pleased with. DD's scooter was a bit disapointing. Wish I'd bought to more expensive micro variety. But, she seems happy with it.

My mum is is a strange old bat and I pray I never turn into her. She is mad at me. I thought we had moved on and decided to just put our disagreement behind us. But she saved up her revenge and gave presents to the kids and not one to me. Not even a card. Weird twisted manipulative old cow (whom I hope does not read mumsnet).

My Dad also "forgot" to send any presents to his grandchildren, but that's more about laziness than revenge.

Otherwise, Christmas was nice. I enjoyed my break from work. And enjoyed seeing my kids and DH.

Now, onto New Years resolutions... think I better do something about my big fat arse.

sparklyxmasfairy · 29/12/2008 09:31

hi all good morning

athene happy last day at rubbish job
sorry about family strife, personally I don't think certain toxic people ever change and that is why I have not had any contact with my father for over 20yrs

sushi ouch long journey hope the 2 weeks speed by and you have a nice time in Japan
we might go to Kew on New years day

pc I actually used a larger tin than recomended , because it was the only springform I have.
don't know about Kew yet I think will take lead fro dd she seems super knackered and not quite back to normal after busy Christmas

off to have breakfast I think

did anyone mention NY resolutions?

sparklyxmasfairy · 29/12/2008 09:33

btw SJ chocolate is delicious very dark and gingery spicy yummy thanks, dh was only really allowed a taste because it is mine mine mine

pcworld · 29/12/2008 10:10

Am actually wondering if we will make it out the door at all today! Absolutely knackered when all is said and done. Off now to play princesses with dd whilst building a foam castle for ds simultaneously

stepfordwife · 29/12/2008 10:45

hello all

glad you all had good ones...illness descended on the steppie household, esp poor ds1 who had a nasty strep throat infection.
it was very frustrating not feeling like eating or drinking over the festive period, i can tell you..well i forced down some booze, but just wasn't the same..

love the nativity pigs, ros
reminds me of when my mum looked after ds1 and ds2 while i was at work. ds2 was about 3 and kept asking to see baby jesus. he then insisted baby jesus was in the frdge..
thinking she was about to see some sort of vision, ma kept peering into the fridge looking for little baby jesus..

cue frantic pointing from ds2:'look! look! baby jesus."
ahhhhhhh, baybel...baby cheeses
