Pc, I have a lovely recipe for a lentil & veg curry but its probably a bit late now!

Slng, outrageous re school!

Sfx, it was for Prima Baby. Fortunately they didn't want my photo!

Sj, will have to make sure I get the car & give that a go.

There's also Little Stars in Chiswick which is quite nice though a bit small. Its run by auntie/steppie/kew's childminder. But lots of natural light!

SJ99 · 22/01/2009 10:06

Morning all

Finally caught up with Heston saga, ridiculous programme but I love him & what he does!

Slng - are you going to protest?

PCW - hope back is easing up, are you seeing anyone for it? Have several lentil recipes, which lentils are you using?

Sfx - LOL at minisfx's comment

Ros - are you coming over today?

sfxmum · 22/01/2009 10:07

good morning all

slng absolutely loved watching his shows about the best way to do different recipes very engaging.

Ros I see thought it was the new MN book on toddlers

trying to find motivation to go out running in this wet weather but it isn't proper rain so should really stop being soft and go out

dd barely gave me a backward glance today, feel relieved

slng · 22/01/2009 13:19

AARRRRRRRHHHHHH! I've just been trying to transfer some money overseas and have been talking to a human being. Give me a machine any time. AAAARRRRHHHHHHH!!!!!

Hello all,

PCWorld - Sorry to hear about your back trouble. I echo the othes and hope you've seen someone about it.

Slng - School's behaviour does sound outrageous.

We've just got back from Cricklewood shopping for Chinese New Year (CNY). Dd's pre-school has asked me for ideas to introduce CNY to the children (and her!).

I'm really pleased they're taking an interest in her ethnic background and it has shamed me into trying to do something to celebrate CNY.

slng · 22/01/2009 17:54

Hello!

That was an easy tea - steamed ray wings and noodles. Eaten in 20 minutes flat with no fidgeting! For a change. DS2 even attempted chopsticks.

Mellow - what's in Cricklewood? What did you get? What do you say about CNY? Our school has it in the teaching plan but I don't know and don't even plan to find out what they are doing. I feel a bit negligent.... My plan is to eat, but might try to get some deco tomorrow. In fact might try to find some CNY tunes now...

OP posts:
SJ99 · 22/01/2009 18:06

Mellow - What do you have planned for CNY then?

Sfx - did you make it out for run in the end?

We went puddle jumping (what else can you do in this weather?) and in the afternoon drawing and playing with trains. Just realised that this is the 1st wk in the past 2mths where I haven't had to visit any sort of medical establishment. I feel free, so nice not having to rush around for appouintments.

sfxmum · 22/01/2009 18:57

regarding CNY I have noticed a couple of houses in the neighbourhood, all decorated with red lanterns
dd has been making lanterns at nursery which I expect is the generic thing they do

SJ I did yes and even managed to do most of the weights sequence I had planned
so have you got the HV off your back? we did some puddle jumping too was also made to stand like a scarecrow but on one leg somewhere along mortlake road

pcworld · 22/01/2009 19:40

Yes, at dd's pre-school the play kitchen is no longer than that, but a "chinese restaurant"

Re: lentil recipes - I use green/brown/red lentils - will look up online- apologies, it is a tad lazy to ask on here!

However, I am looking for suggestions for a good restaurant for lunch or a good gastro-pub in Chiswick / Hammersmith - any ideas? Am thinking maybe of High Road Brasserie.

Another super-early start for dh tomorrow. Roll on the weekend!! Must check the weather forecast. dd has asked if (a) Sat is a "daddy day" and (b) is it the summer, lol

slng · 22/01/2009 19:46

Always makes me laugh when I see the "theme" aisle at supermarkets for CNY. Fancy eating noodles in packet sauces for CNY! When we were little CNY eve dinner was an enormous banquet. Till now I have not been able to find or cook steamed carp the way my grandfather did it. Best thing ever... I wish I asked him ... but I was young and foolish ...

Anyway. PC - are you vegetarian? We are having the chicken and lentil curry tonight, inspired by my own post yesterday. Also bought a fresh salmon fish head today. What should I do with it? Last time I got a 72p-fish head we got my lunch, DS1's packed lunch. and a fish stock out of it. Definitely credit crunch food! So yummy too ...

OP posts:
pcworld · 22/01/2009 19:49

Sing, you sound like an amazing cook! I was vegetarian for about 15 years and cracked when 7 months pregnant with dd and had a chicken curry! Eat some meat now, but not too much. I liked the look of the chicken & lentil curry link you sent yesterday. If you get a chance, do report back with a verdict!

mygreatauntgriselda · 22/01/2009 21:01

PC I'd like to know if it summer tomorrow too?

slng · 22/01/2009 21:10

pc - chicken and lentil curry very nice even when we forgot to add the yogurt ...

Does lentil count towards your five-a-day?

It's never summer. Is it?

OP posts:
pcworld · 23/01/2009 07:18

Morning .... YAWN .... well we have been up since 6am here. Need some inspiration for this morning! The forecast is for "light rain" - but might brave Kew anyway, need to get out!

How is everyone today?

SJ, what day(s) is Little Fishes on? Are you planning to go next week, maybe we could join you? As January will soon(ish) be over, I think it is time to start socialising again

sfxmum · 23/01/2009 09:20

good morning all

yucky weather think I will have to wear wellies when going out later

slng a banquet sounds great am a fan of celebrations with lots of yummy food

pcW apparently not summer yet
dd's current obsessing is her birthday, there are lists already, we remind her of all the birthdays in between and she said 'oh mummy can I have a new dress for your birthday please'

pcworld · 23/01/2009 09:48

Yep, well I clearly hadn't even opened the curtains when I "penned" that last post. Clearly, we will not be going to Kew. Fed up emoticon. Not good at early starts any more and am ratty!

dd is already eagerly making plans for her next birtday - a whole year away - drawing up the guest-list, musing over party games! LoL, they are so funny!

rosmerta · 23/01/2009 09:58

I've only had birthday lists for days now, 'what's next mummy?'!

Miserable day, poor ds1 is going to get soaked on the way home from nursery, no cosy pushchair for him anymore.

pcworld · 23/01/2009 10:00

Finally going to view a piano tomorrow only slight problem is where to put it we will have to move house, lol

sfxmum · 23/01/2009 10:00

particularly forced/ enforced early start imo yes I can see that.
I feel better about quiet no plans days now that dd has pre school and is out 3 mornings a week, makes me less anxious to find things to do, less of the long empty stretch

little miss sunshine me

SJ99 · 23/01/2009 10:56

Hello all

PCW - Little Fishes in on Tues-Thur 10-12.15. I can't make it next week but shall we go the following week either 4th or 5th Feb? Anyone else? There is little cafe there too. Will email you a few recipes when I get chance. Good luck with piano viewing & subsequent house viewing

Slng - never done anything with a fish head. I have some trout in the fridge and every time I open the door, I feel like they're staring at me, LOL!

The other week when it snowed, DS asked if he could open his presents...he thought when it snowed it meant it was Christmas and there were more presents on the way!

Sfx - have 2 more hospital visits yet, DS1 being re-tested for allergy and DS2 has a referral, but all next month, when does it end???

ComeOVeneer · 23/01/2009 10:59

Hi all. feeling rather sorry for myself, have a horrid head cold, feling realy unwell and dh is working crazy hours, (not home before 11pm for the last 2 weeks and didn't come home at all last night)so no reprieve from child care (he will be wroking all weekend too which means I have to take both children swimming and dd to a birthday party.

At least ds is at nursery until 1pm so I am hiding under the duvet this morning.

Hope everyone is well. Foul weather outside, I blame whoever mentioned summer on this thread

Do we have any plans to meet up soon?

mellow2 · 23/01/2009 11:50

What horrible weather. I had to do urgent shopping for a baking sheet this morning and it was really stressful.

SJ - I don't know what I'm going to do for CNY. I might try to make some traditional CNY food but dh hates CNY food, it's too 'authentic' for him.

We're going to give dd a red packet (with money inside). It's the Chinese version of Christmas presents but only children and unmarried grown-ups get them. I might get some firecrackers and buy some CNY pastries/cakes.

rosmerta · 23/01/2009 12:01

Sj, I'd be able to go to Little Fishes on the Tues am, would be nice to find something to take ds2 to!

slng · 23/01/2009 13:08

Hello all!

Just went to the chinese supermarket and got some deco and red packets and chinese sweets... Also had an "authentic" fish head and pickled mustard soup

Sun's supposed to be out in the afternoon ...

sfx - hobbits give away presents on their birthdays, don't they?
