Ros thanks for that naughty link

PC yes how is your back?

sfxmum · 21/01/2009 11:32

good morning all

pc did you mention study or work? think we are in the same boat, slight panic here might postpone

SJ glad ds2 is feeling better

after all that cheerful hope of yesterday I started thinking about what next here can't vote but I care

dd was cheerful waving goodbye this morning, first time since Christmas

pcworld · 21/01/2009 13:34

Hey, all - nice day eh? Back still killing me - not much chance to rest especially with a school run and lifting ds in and out of car etc. Moan, moan ...

How is everyone else?

dd has asked if I can stay with her at nursery - first time in about 6 months so don't know what is going on there. Am applying for the school soon. On one level, I think that it is a good choice. On another, I have reservations.

Need to start getting out more in the mornings, I think - might look into some playgroups etc although I'm not always so keen on them!

SJ99 · 21/01/2009 14:00

Little Fishes was a success although we didn't get there til late and we were the last to leave. Makes a change from Kidzone. If you fancy it PCW, we could go sometime.

Will try and get in a quick snooze now before junior wakes up (I never normally succeed at this, LOL).

sfxmum · 21/01/2009 15:17

we took advantage of the sun and went to Kew for a run around, freezing but nice, had not been there this year. dd was keen on staying at nursery because 'mummy I have not finished my book' so book came home with us

there was an American woman in Marks buying a copy of every single paper they had

pcW reminds me we should know about the primary school in a couple of months, can't believe my baby is about to go to Reception

rosmerta · 21/01/2009 17:06

Sj, where's Little Fishes? Would be interested as well! Very sweet of your ds, we'll have to attempt a meet up there soon!

stepfordwife · 21/01/2009 17:36

ah, ros, have spotted your moment of fame

rosmerta · 21/01/2009 17:42

What moment of fame is that steppie? [puzzled]

stepfordwife · 21/01/2009 17:52

blimey, how many moments of fame do you have, ros
quotes about coping with being pregnant when you've got a toddler ring any bells?

rosmerta · 21/01/2009 17:58

Ahh, I'd forgotten about that! The writer said she'd send me a copy but obviously I'll have to go buy one!

I'm in demand steppie, didn't you know?

stepfordwife · 21/01/2009 18:05

not sure if it's on sale yet..
i get early copies, dontcha know (get me!)
obviously - inevitable i'll be on the scrounge for quotes at some stage
i'm in that copy, too....

missed the second part of heston/little chef last nigt. was it as daft as first episode. don't think i' bother with it tonight. mind you, the little chef boss man is very (unintentionally) funny

stepfordwife · 21/01/2009 18:11

auntie - 'our" new cleaner arrived today, stayed for two minutes and left! think it was all too much for her - know the feeling...

have agreed she'll start properly when builders clear off.
anyhow she liked my raspberry walls, so that's the main thing

is she doing a good job? she's lovely, isn't she?

sfx..lovely day for turn around kew. glad dd is more settled at nursery.

hello everyone else
toodlepip

slng · 21/01/2009 18:22

Hello all!

Very mixed day today. School and council apparently decided they are going to double the capacity next year and neglected to consult the parents Parent governors busy asking for signatures for petition, but I wanted to know why they didn't make sure we were consulted if they knew what was going on. Letters to council and school in order, I think.

Went to dentist and DSs were model citizens and let dentist examine their teeth. DS2 came home and promptly fell off the table and has a bleeding nose. Did not stop him giggling at DS1 being silly and also guzzled lots of schnitzel. Does that mean he's OK? How do you tell a broken nose?

How is one supposed to WORK amidst all this!!?? I keep thinking about quitting ...

steppie - watched Heston last night. It is becoming clear:

  • Heston wants to sort out LC
  • LC boss wants to use Heston as publicity stunt for their sneaky new menu that they didn't tell him about which is going to be launched next week
  • Heston asks for guarantees
  • LC boss refuses
  • Heston walks out.

Brilliant soap opera. I really like Heston though. What a genius.

SJ99 · 21/01/2009 18:53

Oh no, don't tell me what happens, haven't watched it yet!
Slng - hope your DS is alright, don't suppose much can be done if it is broken?

Ros - Little Fishes is on 17 Wellington Rd (I think) on way to Hampton Hill. Basically same eqpt as Kidzone but much, much brighter. DS1 loved it, keeps asking to go back already

I still haven't seen your moment of fame, what am I missing???

Sfx - I did think it's nice day for Kew, glad you enjoyed it. I must renew my membership at some point

Steppie - your cleaner must have good taste

pcworld · 21/01/2009 19:00

SJ, I like the sound of Little Fishes. Kidzone is ok but a little bit depressing due to lack of natural light!! Feeling a bit here, back is killing me and dh is on v early starts for the next 2 days. Oh well. It will have to be an omelette tonight, I think. Does anyone have any great lentil recipes they'd like to share?

sfxmum · 21/01/2009 19:37

did I mention dd told me 'whatever mummy' yesterday

slng do noses in children break that easily, I suppose septum problems can happen but not sure really, do you want to give children or work?

SJ re Kidzone I am a tad claustrophobic and could not help myself keeping my back to the wall and my eyes on the exit the entire time, plus when I was there I though one little girl was about to hit KC

Ros/ Steppie is this about the new book?

sfxmum · 21/01/2009 19:38

pcW sorry your back is painful very frustrating indeed

mygreatauntgriselda · 21/01/2009 19:44

PC hope your back is getting better

Slng wht is "Heston"???

Can't believe your school did that - you'd think there would be a long consultation period!

pcworld · 21/01/2009 19:45

Even worse comes the news that we are out of frozen peas AND baked beans! Does anyone here grow potatoes?

slng · 21/01/2009 20:01

SJ - sorry!

Auntie - Heston is Heston Blumenthal, not Heston services on the A4. Him of the bacon-and-egg-ice-cream and snail-porridge fame.

Documents on council website said there was consultation from June to Nov 2008 and parents of that school did not express opinion for or against the plans. THAT IS BECAUSE WE WERE NOT ASKED. Idiots. Bastards. Wankers. Amoebas. Parameciums. (Not meaning any disrespect to single-celled organisms.)

sfx - give up work, of course. Can you give up children? Besides I quite like my ones even though I shout at them far too often

PC - are you seeing doctor about back? As for lentil recipes, this chicken and lentil curry is the only one I do more than once. And I do grow potatoes, but not intentionally.

OP posts:
mygreatauntgriselda · 21/01/2009 20:09

That's outrageous Slng about lack of consultation - why not go to local rag about it? [we need a stirring up trouble emoticon]

Have never heard of Heston wotsit

sfxmum · 21/01/2009 20:31

slng that 'consultation' seems even worse than planning permission stuff, hope you manage to do something about it.

pcW vegan/vegetarian websites are good for lentil recipes can't think of a recipe right now but all sorts of lentils are staples here as well as beans and peas

Heston makes me laugh the geek cook but don't really follow reality tv

slng · 21/01/2009 21:33

sfx - there is a certain charm to such a mad perfectionist, is there not? And he seems honest, which is not necessarily a ubiquitous quality, certainly not in our school...

OP posts:
MrsRecycle · 22/01/2009 07:32

Slng we were told that kids noses aren't properly fromed for many years so it's hard for them to break them - and god knows dd1 tried enough times!

Re. The school that is dreadful. When Red ken wanted to build a high school in our schools playground we appealed to government and john Prescott overturned decision. His about approaching the London assembly? You do need to go enmass and start a petition . The more parents that can complain the better. Bloody hard work but worth it S we now have a lovely new high school far away from primary one.
Pcw hope your back is a bit better. Try and get some naproxen - you can get this over the counter now. It should ease it a little.
