New thread for new month!

OP posts:
Kewcumber · 17/04/2008 15:03

Sj Paddle used a great mortgage broker - get his number from her.

Ros - would be interested in your leaflets. Since focussing on it I have made more effort to correct his mispronounciations (eg he says pee instead of poo, bee instead of boo) and to tell him I don;t understand instead of guessing and even in a few days it has begun to make a difference.

Yesterday he had his first "poo" in the potty (both physically and verbally )

I am beginning to think he just likes winding me up.

Kewcumber · 17/04/2008 15:04

sfx - why dont you give up the good fight and become a Brit

rosmerta · 17/04/2008 15:08

that's what I started to do as well, definitely makes a difference. The other thing that was suggested was when he's playing with something eg cars, if he says 'car' you say things like 'drive car' 'wash car' etc so he starts to put words together.

I might be at Kew on Sat am so I'll bring the leaflets then, otherwise I'll send them to you.

Kewcumber · 17/04/2008 15:12

Thanks - I was doing it before but perhaps not so consistenly as I should have been.

bunyanvillas · 17/04/2008 15:48

Hi all, the coast is clear, ds asleep (finally!), dd out on new bike with dh, me online and NOT prepping dinner, sorting out washing, ironing or anything even vaguely useful. I think I need some tips from COV! How is everyone? Kew, sorry to hear about your charming social worker. I don't think some of these people realise the meaning of tact. At this end, I've been informed not to expect any HV visits as they are still dealing with a backlog from Feb. Well hur-flipping-rah as far as I am concerned! PC - how is your new boss? An improvement on the previous incumbent, hopefully ... and what's happening on the home front - have you come to a decision or will you stick it out? SJ, hope you manage to get a mortgage sorted out. Everyone else - hello, hope you are fine - it is so hard to keep up with this thread, you are all very prolific!

SJ99 · 17/04/2008 16:05

Hello Bunyan - glad you're enjoy a bit of surf time. Our offer accepted on house, now have to avoid the stress on the way to completion

Have already been on moneysupermkt and spoken to Paddle's broker (thank you!) and another advisor today so not so much trouble finding the best deals, I just meant that the 'best' deals are not so attractive/have massive arrangement fee even compared with last wk. Such is life.

Ros - glad you got some helpful advice. Ds used to have his own language for various words in the beginning too which he did use them consistently til he decided one day to pronounce them correctly. It used to make us laugh as some of them weren't even close e.g. he used to call sausages duts???!!

Lausy · 17/04/2008 16:50

Hello All,

Have had a crazy few days trying to find all sorts of furniture for house in Fulham but am now ready to start ordering - hurrah - just need the money now...

My niece did the same thing SJ, she used to call 'fans' 'ferderberns'...we have no idea where she got it from !!!

Hope everyone else is fine on this sunny but still chilly day...!

fitfox · 17/04/2008 18:15

Hi I am on here instead of going swimming (naughty naughty)

I've been freezing all day - but haven't seen daylaight as have been holde up in office

KC - oh its all coming backl to me now. I can remember correcting DDs words and was quite surprised when she actually took it on board fairly quickly!! I had spent weeks thinking "should I/shouldn't I" correct her, then the guy who did her hearing test and the HV both said "just correct her" and it worked a treat!!

SJ - good luck wading through the mortgage minefield - just keep focussed on that luvverly house and the house waling party you are going to have for us your family

Paddle - what's the new boss like then? Can you get your passport fast tracked if you take it down there? They must have a system for doing that surely? I get really paranoid about ours and check them all at reluar interviews

DD's still shows a photo of her at 13 months but doesn't expire until next year!!

sfxmum · 17/04/2008 19:05

hello all

foxie tut tut and what with the nice young man instructor and all what is wrong with you?

Lausy is it the first time you are developing? a few people on this thread are enthusiasts, I am far too chicken and lazy for such pursuits
well done you

had a tutorial this evening so busy busy, dh came home early and is sorting out dinner.
had an almost entirely child free day - odd but nice

mellow / KC anyone allergic to peanuts?

paddle was useless fired? hope this one is better

might do Kew at weekend weather permitting dh will be working

sfxmum · 17/04/2008 19:07

clearly can't do punctuation, or even basic sentence structure

rosmerta · 17/04/2008 19:08

foxie, house waling party? What goes on at one of those then?

Right, must finish packing & get myself off to Manchester.

Byee!

slng · 17/04/2008 19:30

Disastrous shopping trip - or at least the shopping was OK, but trying to find dinner! First off the natural cafe seems to have gone belly-up. So we went to Carluccio's instead, who had some sort of kitchen disaster (blown fused or something like that). Eventually got pasta with tomato sauce for kids - what can go wrong with that eh? Except the sauce was spicy ... Kids semi-appeased with lots of bread and slice of cake and had to be further appeased with peanut-butter toast at home. AND the lift near our parking space was broken. Hrrumph. Kids were very unconvinced that it is bed time, seeing that they didn't feel like they had tea ... DS1 kept asking if we've just had lunch...

slng · 17/04/2008 19:32

house waling party - sounds like the worst kind of toddlers' party.

slng · 17/04/2008 19:34

Did get Nicky Clarke Mains and Rechargeable Hair Clipper. So anyone wants a grade 0-4 let me know!

Lausy · 17/04/2008 20:40

Hello All,

It is his first time developing but its a bit of a cheat as it was his fathers house so really was there for him to learn from his mistakes if he wants to take this up as a career, we have both learnt lots along the way and now know not to use any family friends!! He has simply asked me to help him furnish it as I did an interior design course and in my maternity leav laden days am desperate for something to do that isn't baby oriented!!!

DH is currently teaching me boxing (in a bit to get a flat stomach) and so am completely knackared now and still struggling for breath - quite disgraceful really

sfxmum · 17/04/2008 21:01

lausy Pilates is great for tummies, if only I had the discipline, house project sounds exciting, most def no relatives

slng dh had one of those machines but he us extremely myopic, not a good combination

SJ99 · 17/04/2008 21:08

LOl at myopic hairdresser!
Slng if it's any good let me know, I seem to spend more on DS haircuts than my own. If he wasn't such a wriggle monster I'd be certainly tempted to do it myself with clippers

Lausy - good luck with refurb project, sounds interesting. Well done for boxing. I used to do some years ago and I can honestly say it was the hardest form of exercise training I ever did. No wonder boxers are so fit

slng · 17/04/2008 21:15

I cut ds1's hair with scissors because he hates clippers and he would stand still for the haircut. Clippers are for dh and ds2 who is for too scary to cut with scissors.

By the way we saw an open top bus blaring out slogans and music exhorting us to vote for George Galloway for mayor. Didn't know he was running. But NO NO NO. The stupid bus and its noise made ds2 cry. Did anyone hear this in the George Galloway- Big Brother days?
www.amiright.com/parody/misc/tseliot0.shtml

sfxmum · 17/04/2008 21:26

I dare not click had not heard of that we have enough problems with Boris as it is

fitfox · 17/04/2008 21:30

George Galloway?

No, No, No, No, No - anti semitic bully - eeeeek

Gawd only knows what we'll vote - Green probably - the only sane candidate

sfxmum · 17/04/2008 21:50

the candidates

we have first choice and second choice plus councillors and assembly members I think

slng · 17/04/2008 22:03

sfx - that's a parody of George Galloway's big brother debacle in the style of T S Elliot's Macavity. It's quite funny really. Funnier when it was on the Today programme.

sfxmum · 17/04/2008 22:10

ok will check for a minute there I thought it was some sort of ghastly clip from BB

sfxmum · 17/04/2008 22:16

and lissom is such a great word

slng · 18/04/2008 08:23

sfx - oh no now I'm going to associate "lissom" with that awful clip from BB they showed on the news ... I'm feeling a bit sick now ...

We'll stop talking about that beast now.
