New thread as the other one is not going to last long.

OP posts:
rosmerta · 14/01/2008 14:15

Cov - glad dh is feeling better!

sfxmum · 14/01/2008 14:19

steppie just who do you take me for?
I have agreed she can have removable fairy stuff on the walls and may allow some pinkish bedding although I think if presented with Thomas stuff at the same time she will probably prefer it.

kew that reminds me of the endless talk at inlaws over Christmas about the origin of lullabies and nursery rhymes. I think Pullman wrote a book on the subject or recommended one on the subject during and interview.

at the time I read something about how some of them reflect the parents ambivalent feelings, stresses and strains

rock-a-by-baby sounds vaguely threatening in that light

SJ99 · 14/01/2008 15:01

Afternoon all

So the pink is creeping in Paddle & SFX, pinkish bedding and hairclips, whatever next?

QC - glad DS is sleeping better, hope you enjoyed your 'me time'. Ta for explaining about Larry, I didn't know who he was either

Ds awake btw 1-3am last night, so restless he couldn't settle, eventually he dropped off so I crept back to bed only to be woken at 5.30am by DH's alarm as he left for Bristol. Haven't heard from him Sfx, so I presume he's ok (no news is good news and all that). I think flood warnings are for later in the wk.

DS also has night terrors, they are really freaky

Steppie - enjoy the Tate

Foxie - good luck with finding new lodger, what a pain it is turning out to be. At least you have your fab hols to look fwd to

COV - good news about your DH

Amaanda - great news you'll be coming out on 25th, please could I have a lift if that's ok?

SJ99 · 14/01/2008 15:32

BTW If you get the Times each day this week you can claim a daily dvd of kiddies' programmes from WH Smith. Today is the Flumps!!!

My bro got me yesterday's paper which came with the Wombles dvd, cannot wait to watch all this stuff with DS

sfxmum · 14/01/2008 16:43

cov glad to hear your dh is better
and btw how awful to have the pushchair rammed by van

SJ it is indeed freaky, it helps to know it is normal, but the lack of sleep is telling on our grumpy moods today

I don't think we will have a holiday this year apart from camping for the festival, the weekend up north for the family wedding, maybe perhaps a short break somewhere near

dd is a bit put out when I was explaining about the wedding where her new auntie will be wearing a beautiful dress, she seems determined that her dress will be the prettiest and also seems to think she might be marrying one of us or perhaps both

ComeOVeneer · 14/01/2008 17:43

It was indeed a horrible event, made all the worse by the fact it was when we were living in CHicago, so away from family and all things familiar, thankfully the only injury was a small scrape on dd's hand. SOmeone called the emergency services and we ended up with 2 police cars an ambulance and a fire engine!

fitfox · 14/01/2008 17:54

Well I am happy as Larry (PMSL QC!!) - we have let the room so I can stop boring you all about it.

Chinese woman e-mailed today (she had no access to internet over weekend) and confirmed she will move in on Friday. She is getting married in Feb in China and bringing new DH home. She seemed incredibly grateful and very polite - the direct opposite to our last lodger in fact.

Paddle I have bought the router (thanx for the tip) - it should arrive here by Friday at the latest as it goes 1st class. Do you fancy popping over on Saturday (grovel, grovel)?

Sorry to hear about all the scarey dreams/night terrors the poor LOs have experienced. DD occassionally had those too.

LOL at the conversions to PINK WORLD

Bumped into XOXO earlier as our DCs go to same swim class. Was really nice to see her. When we parted she said "see you next week"

Me: "Have we arranged to meet?"

Her: "Are you not coming to the class next week then?"

Me: "Duh!"

A woman sat with me and it took me about 10 minutes before I remembered that we'd spent the whole class chatting together last week

This is what being stressed does isn't it? Or is it just having 3 kids which means I cannot remember whether I am Authur or Martha?

Ros, hope you have cleaned the kitchen floor

fitfox · 14/01/2008 18:35

CoV - so do they have "white van drivers" In Chicago too? I hope the police gave them a good telling off . It must have been terrifying.

ComeOVeneer · 14/01/2008 18:35

My kitchen floor is so clean you could eat your dinner of it [smug emoticon].

Now comes the part - it is so clean because I had to wash it this afternoon. I was on the phone to my mother (finding out how she is coping looking after my nephew (1)for the week whilst sister, bil and neice are off skiing) and ds took himself into the kitchen, took out a cucumber from the fridge and bit a big chunk out of it, then returned it to the veg box. He then decided to pour himself a cup of juice and emptied the entire contents of the cartoon all over the kitchen floor.

ComeOVeneer · 14/01/2008 18:38

He got more than a good telling off, he went to court and lost his licence. There were also a group of homeless guys (quite young) in the park across the road and they saw the whole thing. They came over to see if they could help (tbh there prior to this theyy had always made me a little bit nervous, but geuss that shows you about misconceptions)and offered to beat up the guy for me

SJ99 · 14/01/2008 19:12

There's justice for you, what a scary experience for you all. LOL at your DS antics with juice though

I have a feeling that Mini-sfx is going to out-do the bride at the wedding. I hope she has forgotten about THAT dress from M&S

DH told me last night that he has 5days hols to take before end of March, how did that happen? Maybe we will try and go away somewhere

Foxie - Glad room let out, what a relief. I'm not even going to ask who Martha or Arthur are!

stepfordwife · 14/01/2008 19:22

evening all

foxie - glad you've got lodger sorted out. normal service can now be resumed...
yes, 3 kids drive you bonkers. official.

COV ...git..the van driver, that is. and i bet your kitchen floor is always clean enough to eat from!

picture this.
trying to do reading homework with ds2.
dd immediately grabs her book and sprawls all over me while i'm trying to crane my neck round her and look through ds2's long hair, to see his book...

can hardly hear his reading as dd launches into a frenzied stream of consciousness"Me read to mamma..mama read to me...where's iggle-piggle, mama?,,where;s his blankie? NO! go WAY (Ds1's name) ME read mine book...mama me want to sit on mama's lap..."

meanwhile, ds2 is valiantly droning on about roman baths...
dear god, give me strength....
might have to drink wine
toodlepip

stepfordwife · 14/01/2008 19:24

..hmm not sure 3 kids make you doubt your sexuality, though, foxie

sfxmum · 14/01/2008 19:26

yes thanks SJ know I will be getting night terrors

cov - result! amused at ds antics

foxie - seems like it will work with the lodger, good luck

my overtired toddler is getting very screechy luckily she only wants daddy once he gets in until she goes to bed
reminds me yesterday as they were leaving I walked up to the door to wave goodbye and she very vehemently told me to STEP BACK go back home

and SJ don't worry KC will soon post an explanation

fitfox · 14/01/2008 19:28

CoV - that's good (re. the driver)

You reminded me that about 23 years ago, my brother, who has Downs Syndrome, dissappeared for 24 hrs. His was 21 (but with a mental age of 4yrs) and his college "lost" him (they went on a trip to the libary and left him there, returning to the college without him )

You can imagine what my family (specially my Mum) went through, but he was found 24 hours later in central London. He had got onto a train to Waterloo and some homeless people found him and basically fed him, gave him a sleeping bag and looked after him. They probably saved his life.

SJ - make sure he doesn't "waste" them like my DH always does at the end of March with his spare leave. He takes the day off and just sits round the house relaxing (how very dare he)!!

fitfox · 14/01/2008 19:33

Steppy - sibling rivalry eh? The youngest is often the most jealous. DD used to push DS1 off my lap. I need to grow a new head to deal with 3 kids I think.

SFX - am very excited about having a female lodger. Will buy flowers for her room and make it all nice for her

Is your DD still a Daddy's girl? I can't wait until she is big enough to appreciate Dr Who!!! I bet she will love it. What does she think about the Peter Hain scandal then?

stepfordwife · 14/01/2008 19:38

LOL you requesting mini-sfx's thoughts on peter hain, foxie..
bet she'll have some, though, sfx!

remember you telling me that story about your brother, foxie. thank god, some kind people found him.

oh yes, wine...

sfxmum · 14/01/2008 19:47

for some people Sunday morning is church day in our house is mum watches Andrew Marr day so she is well informed on sleazy government ministers, I also wanted to show her what the Tory bloke looks like - I think she was confused

foxie she knows doctor Who, but does not yet appreciate fully, she is also very keen on auntie Buffy as I have already mentioned

Kewcumber · 14/01/2008 20:45

now then, Arthur and Martha....

Amanda78 · 14/01/2008 20:51

Paddlechick666 · 14/01/2008 20:55

foxie, yeah no problem. won't be till after dd nap about 3ish i s'pose.

Paddlechick666 · 14/01/2008 20:57

ebay is fab eh? just 2 words for anyone with hair that tangles easily or dc with same.

Tangle Teezer. Read about it in a mag. Got one off ebay and arrived today. Brilliant! It does look like a horse brush but it does the trick!

DD loves it, along with her new pink hairclips.

Ah, I hear a knock on the door.............

Oh, it's the Pink Patrol come to get my house in order.......

Oh Joy!

ComeOVeneer · 14/01/2008 21:13

Thanks paddle, just ordered one from their website for dd. Hopefully it will stop the screeching from dd every morning.

fitfox · 14/01/2008 21:28

Paddle, wait until she sprouts wings and waves her majic wand at you!

fitfox · 14/01/2008 21:29
