kew, hope you and ds had a better night's sleep. hoping dd will start nursery in september, too. remember mentioning pick-iup vaguely to CM yonks ago, but never agreed anything. we shall see. will probably be reviweing what childcare i need when she's at nursery (hoping for windham) but will certainly need some.

sfx, LOL enfield-esque dad! know what you mean about classes but, sadly, they do usually enjoy them!
yes, i really enjoyed little miss sunshine - her dance! and really like alan arkin, too.

Paddlechick666 · 07/01/2008 10:12

enjoy Tate Modern Steppie, shame I am over in L'pool St all day today otherwise I could've sneaked out and met you guys for a quick coffee.

well, up at 6:15am and out the door by 7:30am to CM by 7:50 and office by 9:15am so pretty good run IMO.

little miss sunshine sounds like a good movie.

CoV, how was your bike buying mission? H brought my bike over yesterday so we'll be out and about again soon I hope.

sfxmum · 07/01/2008 10:15

steppie was it you who corrected a sign at pools in the park?

it was on that drying cubicle 'and you use less towels' corrected to fewer always makes me chuckle

and KC hope it goes well, obsessing about sleep is normal, and with newborns it is all about pooparenting, oh what fun

ComeOVeneer · 07/01/2008 10:27

Morning all. Bike buying mission yesterday was a big (and expensive) sucess. We bought a bike for dd, one for me and one for dh (ds got his before christmas for his birthday). 3 helmets, 3 water bottlesa a new softer saddle for me, a bike rack, a set of lights for the car where the bikes will mask the brake lights etc, a seat for ds on the back of my bike and a couple of attachment thingies to hold bikes on said rack. We have to go back next weekend to pick them up as they have to ba assembled. We are planning to take them on holiday with us to France in the summer and do a lot of cycling here to justify the cost!

SushiMummy · 07/01/2008 10:29

Morning all.

DS has been skipping naps, too.

Ros - any improvement on DS's dry skin? My DS had the same problem last month but thanks to all the advice I got from MNers, he's much better now. I use all the products recommended (could be counterproductive?) so can't tell which one has worked on DS. I use Oilatum (sp?), Aveeno and Diprobase.

Hope everyone is well.

Paddlechick666 · 07/01/2008 10:31

yeah i can imagine you were heading into overdraft territory there!

i bought dd's hamax seat, spare bracket and the bike rack on e-bay and tbh saved a fortune but still spent heaps!

i need a gel pad thing for my seat - cheaper than a whole new seat.

little tip, you may want to get some panniers if you're planning on doing a lot of cycling. backpacks don't really work with the kiddie seat.

my bike was £69 new on ebay too!

gotta love ebay

ComeOVeneer · 07/01/2008 10:37

Panniers are a good idea, will look into that on Saturday when we collect the bikes.I did get a detachable wicker basket for the front to use when I go to the greengrocer/butcher/baker etc down the road. My new years resolution is to use the car less and try and support the little local shops more.

ComeOVeneer · 07/01/2008 11:22

Quick question. I have been looking online to buy panniers. Do I need to buy a seperate cycle rack to attach them to the bike or do they strap on directly (can you tell I am new to this? )

fitfox · 07/01/2008 11:23

My Phil & Teds buggy has panniers!!

Ros We use Olatum and Diprobase too. There is another one called Doublebase which is a nicer consistency than Diprobase.

Steppy - admire the way you are getting out and about with those DCs. What a woman!

Can I borrow someone elses Sleep without Crying book? Steppy do you have it too? I seriously need to do something about the mini beast, who is becoming a mini menace at night time.

SFX - PMSL at the sign being corrected at Pools - how very Richmond, for someone to correct the grammar of a sign!! We have a sign in the showers at work which says "If you leave shampoos and shower gels here, they will be removed by Order of Management". I always feel like correcting it too .

The Dcs have their first swimming lessons today, so am looking forward to that. DD was so excited she couldn't sleep. DS1 has had school ones, so is relaxed about it.

We have had traumas here though as DD's best friend, who she has seont 5 days a week with from the age of `12 months (at CMs, nursery and then school) has left the school. DD has spent the entire holiday witing her friend letters, dreaming about her and talking about how she is "going to a new school" (they've moved to Windsor). I knew she's be upset but she is virtually grieving atm. I have tried to be upbeat and reassure her they can still be friends, she can play with her other friends etc, but she is still really sad

fitfox · 07/01/2008 11:24

OMG have just realised the mini beast has sprouted another tooth over night (making a grand total of 7). That explains the nip-knawing last night....

rosmerta · 07/01/2008 11:32

Hi all,

sushi & foxie (ouch btw!), thanks for the tips. Am going to try the products I can get without a prescription first as its a nightmare to see our GP or HV!

Been to the park this morning & ds has had a good run around. Was v impressed he let a couple of other children play with his ball - first time that's happened! Then he got tired & took it away again

Apologies to steppie, I know I overuse ! but just can't help myself!!

sfxmum · 07/01/2008 11:35

foxie I have the baby one and the toddler one
'no cry sleep solution' that is, can drop it by sometime if you wish

now must drag toddler out somewhere, she is apparently making sleeping arrangements for her dolls and assorted soft toys

I heard her say earlier 'I am not happy with that behaviour' while wagging fingernot sure what the dolly was up to

sfxmum · 07/01/2008 11:38

for a quick look here if it is your thing

rosmerta · 07/01/2008 11:41

I've got the Tracy Hogg (Baby Whisperer) if anyone wants to try them, I found her sleeping suggestions really useful.

Kewcumber · 07/01/2008 12:16

can I borrow the toddler one SFX. I looked at toddler taming but it suggests leaving to cry for 15 mins at a time before going back in. My god, you would need nerves of steel!

fitfox · 07/01/2008 12:17

Yes please, wouldn't mind having a look at what they say. SFX will text you to arrange a time to collect (I am around today actually, if you are about)

Mini beast is changing fast and is on the cusp of little-boy-hood

[baggy eyed emoticon]

fitfox · 07/01/2008 12:21

Oh yes I meant the baby one, not the toddle one - IKWYM QC I could never do the controlled crying thing. I can't ignore their plaintive little mews/big howls

SFX LOL at your DD "disciplining" her doll

Mini beast did the most offensive poo yesterday

I said to him "Mini beast, your bum absolutely STINKS!!!"

I'm sure he replied "I know" in a resigned fashion

I heard DS1 saying to him "you're going to get a right bollocking you know"

DS1 said he heard someone on TV using that phrase (probably the Simpsons)

Paddlechick666 · 07/01/2008 12:28

CoV, depends what kind of child seat you got.

if it's hamax you should be able to get a pannier frame that sits above the back wheel.

you can get fabric panniers that detach or fixed ones.

bike shop should be able to advise when you go back to collect.

just in a meeting and having the most interesting convo with a colleague about his adopted kids. amazing stuff.

rosmerta · 07/01/2008 12:39

I could never do controlled crying either, just breaks your heart to listen to them

Kewcumber · 07/01/2008 12:40

could you hold your own with your stories of your amazing friend and her adopted kid?

fitfox · 07/01/2008 13:33

DS1 said yesterday "Mummy, when Mini Beast has his 1st birthday party, who will come? He then proceeded to name all the babies/toddlers/children on this thread!!"

SJ99 · 07/01/2008 13:39

Hello all

LOl - Foxie & MB's antics (but ouch), and all the fun at Steppie household! I loved Little Miss Sunshine, it is such a feel good film Watched Bourne Ultimatum last night which was good & completely action packed

LOL at mini-sfx too, no fobbing her off then?!

I have 2 sleep books - No cry and another one written by 2 midwives which is pretty good, can bring to next book club when is that btw?

DS doesn't always sleep so late, but seems to be more the norm on the occasion he he deosn't nap that day. He does tend to need more sleep than other toddlers like his mummy

Paddle - glad H is proving to be more useful than in the past, hope it continues. Would like to meet on Fri but can't do swim as DS has his swim lessons in morning

Hi Ros - hope you are feeling better, can meet this week, when suits you?

COV - good luck with the cycling, hope you have fun on your bikes
