Geneva Meet-Up Thread. Anyone for wine and chocolate by the lake?

MmeLindt · 09/06/2009 13:25

Thought that we could use a seperate thread to save us hijacking TML's thread with our Geneva chat.

Who is interested?

Assuming some of us still have young kids, we could meet during the day for glass of wine coffee somewhere child friendly, or a picnic? Botanical Gardens? Parc de Eaux Vives? Or nearer Nyon area. Depends where you all are.

Or do you want to get out sans enfants in the evenings?

The 9th is dh's b'day & his girls are coming for the weekend preceding so can only do after that monday. My b'day's thia friday, btw. Not looking forward to it AT ALL & then there's wretched hallowe'en the next day . I'm either too old or too tired or both

MmeGoblindt · 29/10/2009 09:17

I am quite looking forward to Halloween. Our village organises a big Trick or Treat thing. Last year we had 60 kids at the door.

How are you all coping with the changes to MN? I don't know why, it is all workign fine here.

Niftyblue · 03/11/2009 09:25

Have I missed the next lunch/night out?
If not when is it ?
I really need to come on this one

MmeGuisingt · 03/11/2009 10:24

Nifty
We have not set a date yet. How is next week looking for you guys?

I can do any evening except Monday 9th (parents evening, help!)

Or during the day except Monday and Tues or Thursday mornings.

Niftyblue · 05/11/2009 12:50

Next week at night is a bit difficult as Dh is working late with meetings
But usually night time is good for me

strudelface · 05/11/2009 13:29

What about the following week in the evening then - I have a project on at the mo which is taking up my time in the day.

I can do any except the 18th and 20th/21st.

Niftyblue · 05/11/2009 13:39

I can do any other than the 19th

scariboo · 05/11/2009 14:01

I know I'm a complete wuss but I'm a bit nervous about going out alone at night (downtown Geneva, anyway)

strudelface · 05/11/2009 14:05

Scariboo - is it the driving or the parking? If so you can drive to me or we can meet outside of Geneva and I can do the bit into Geneva if you want.

scariboo · 05/11/2009 14:10

Well, mostly the parking. I've been hearing lots of horror stories about women alone in GVA at night lately. And yes, I dislike driving at night and shouldn't drink,(great pity!) even a glass of wine, as we live about 20kms away. Where are you, strudel? thx for offering, btw - could be a plan, eh?

MmeGuisingt · 05/11/2009 14:12

Really Scariboo? I have not heard anything recently. Aside from the normal bloody robberies.

strudelface · 05/11/2009 14:15

I live just outside Ferney Voltaire.

I won't ask what horror stories you've heard (I'll keep my head in the sand emoticon required)

It makes sense anyway to car pool - Nifty you live this side too don't you?

MmeGuisingt · 05/11/2009 14:25

Oh, yes. Don't tell us the horror stories.

Did you guys fill in the survey for the Police/Canton about safety in Geneva?

Niftyblue · 05/11/2009 15:10

I live in Versoix
so can car share

scariboo · 06/11/2009 14:50

I'm near Nyon , in the middle of nowhere - literally, except cows, goats, farms & a few adventurous expats - which partly explains why I've become such an old fusspot!

Niftyblue · 06/11/2009 16:48

strudel and scariboo I can drive and pick you up

scariboo Where near Nyon?
I am that way every day with the kids school footie etc etc

strudelface · 06/11/2009 17:10

Nifty - sounds like a plan is coming together

So which evening? and where? the place MmeLindt and I went for lunch was nice and they're open in the evening, I have also been to a restaurant in the old bit of geneva and it was remarkably inexpensive (for Geneva) food was okay-ish.

Niftyblue · 06/11/2009 20:19

Don`t you just love it when a plan comes together

I don`t mind driving as long as there is NO comments about my car we still have the sledge in it from last ski season
And my driving I am very good at getting speeding tickets .In fact have a direct line to that department
5 in 1 week !!!!!!

The only night I can`t do is the 19th

Niftyblue · 07/11/2009 20:52

bump

MmeLindt · 09/11/2009 08:29

I don't have anything on at all next week so any day is fine with me.

Where to go?

L' Adresse is nice in the evening, or there is the chicken place if we just want cheap and cheerful. Then a bar afterwards.

I also know a nice place in the old town, pasta and salads mainly, quite trendy (but not scary).

I met Strudelface on Sat at the Bazaar. Have you picked up your prize yet? When the tombola organiser said, 'Do you know anyone called I had to bite my tongue not to say 'Strudelface? Yes, of course I know her'

OP posts:
Niftyblue · 09/11/2009 08:36

I know the chicken place
I can do any night next week except thursday as Dh is away (t.v controls to myself that night )

strudelface · 09/11/2009 08:42

What's the chicken place?

I haven't picked my prize up yet - I will go in for French on Thursday and pick it up then - am still v excited I won.

Next week I can do any night except Wednesday (dd2s party is that afternoon and I will be dead by 7!)

Niftyblue · 09/11/2009 09:12

Pouletcusine (sp) up in the old town
on a very steep hill

strudelface · 09/11/2009 09:47

Oh - am none the wiser but prepared to give it a shot.

So nights in contention are Mon/Tues or Friday - I would prefer not the Fri as am working Sat and Sun but will go with the majority vote.

MmeLindt · 09/11/2009 10:25

Ok. Shall we go with chicken then. There is only chicken, roast or as salad so if you don't like chicken say now and we can go for the pasta place. It is just around the corner from chicken place.

I think it is called olio or something.

Monday or Tuesday is good for me.
