I see all these threads for Aussie people and thought we should have our own thread too. Not sure why, I just felt the need to make us feel special too!

So, who's stateside and where are you?

I'll start:

Mamama - in Chicago

Hello - lovely to see someone else in Houston! I can add a few more favourite Houston things: fun outings for the children like children's museum, zoo etc are cheap and central, swimming pools everywhere, so many fat people around you are likely to feel very sexy, ALSO fabulous restaurants (so you might only be sexy for a few months), many good preschools, roads are relatively easy to navigate on, particularly inside the loop.

alipiggie · 27/06/2007 02:33

Well back from a week in Florida - Mickey'd to death and loved every single last second of it. Wow what an amazing time. Back home to reality with Green Card petition approved and now waiting for the paperwork and work permit to come through. My ds starts Kindy soon so feeling very ancient at the moment. Feeling rather low as personal situation means I have to give up being a SAHM and go back to work, he ho. SittingBull will soon need tips on finding Nannies and How did work go, was thinking about you all day yesterday whilst sitting at Orlando airport.

mamama · 27/06/2007 03:01

Ooo, this thread has been busy!

Welcome Vixie78 and, Ali - wow!! Yipppeeee. Well done you. Hope you had a fab hol. I just got a nanny job - two families were fighting over me!

How's work going, Sittingbull? I'd do just the sort of thing you describe - several times I have found myself waiting to cross a road, swaying from side to side like a nutter (or like a mum who is used to having to move all the bloody time to keep LO from crying) and I often hear myself saying, 'Ooo, look, a firetruck!' or, 'Wow, can you see that backhoe loader?' to passersby who couldn't care less. I should walk around with a sign on me saying 'I'm not nuts, honest, I just spend most of my time with 2 year old boys'

Aww, Sittingbull {hugs}

Am sure that none of those things are true. I know it must be a hard transition though. And, when you are concerned about those things, remember you have the luxury of going to the loo without an entourage! Lucky you

Earlybird, I know what you mean about running from air conditioner to air conditioner. After living 3 summers where temps got over 100 over 2/3 of the time, I'm used to it.

Sorry you're feeling badly about going back to work, Sittingbull. My friend across the street had to do that after her DH lost his job. She is going through the same thing you are going through.

[waves back to Jabberwocky]

Waves north to fellow Northwesterner Incredibleshrinkingmum.

And I thought I was bored tonight, Mamama.

I'm sitting at my computer watching DH play some stupid online Lord of the Rings game in which he has to find a piecrust. I'm not really into TV, but the one night I want to veg in front of it, its broken.

mamama · 27/06/2007 05:16

Oh no - that doesn't sound like a great way to spend an evening!

OP posts:
colinandcaitlinsmommy · 27/06/2007 05:24

He's a hobbit, you see and apparently hobbits love pies. It gets worse, people have taken the game into real life real life, and have discussion forums where they make up songs, and write stories about being a hobbit or elf or such and share them with everyone. He's written a story, but I don't want him to show it to me, because then I will have to acknowledge the fact he is really weird. I told him just keep it to a level where he isn't dressing up in costume and attending conventions.

I'm trying to actively engage myself in stumbling on the stumble upon tool bar, but so far, it is just feeding me nothing I want, and I keep looking at him and his stupid quests for pies and chickens. I'm almost tempted just to go to bed.

mamama · 27/06/2007 05:49

Oh dear colinandcaitlinsmummy, it sounds serious.

I had no idea hobbits love pies. I do think it is probably time for you to go to bed. Pies & chickens indeed!

Hello
My geography is pretty cr*p but i thought I qualified for east coast? I'm on the border of Washington DC. Am I living in complete ignorance??? Have only been here 3 months so I know nothing......

jabberwocky · 27/06/2007 22:12

You're kind of on the edge, twirl But I think Maryland is generally to be considered part of the South as is Virginia.

Twirl · 28/06/2007 00:04

I love life on the edge .
Too hot here today - I am melting (and wondering how I am going to survive the next two months of this heat). It was a cool 36 degrees today....

Now I'm feeling all alone here in the Rockies with just the bears and cougars for company . Was it something I said. I did shower honest when I came back from Florida. Hi Sunchowder loved the Orange State btw. Califrau - misters are fabbie and I'm seriously considering getting on for my deck and having my "hunky" handyman fit it for me. Cool here today which has been a blessing. Heat returning tomorrow.
