I see all these threads for Aussie people and thought we should have our own thread too. Not sure why, I just felt the need to make us feel special too!

So, who's stateside and where are you?

I'll start:

Jabberwocky, I had no idea you were over here!

Albert, 20% humidity sounds rather appealing after the sticky days we've had. The heat is no problem but I hate the humidty

Yep, Southern born and bred

mamama, I thought Chicago only had two weeks of summer?

mamama · 20/06/2007 22:02

No, no, Jabberwocky. Chicago only really has summer and winter - 'seasons' are as follows

Spring - 2 weeks in May
Summer - May - October (4 weeks lovely weather and 5 months of sticky humid weather)
Autumn - 2 weeks at the end of Sept/ beginning of Oct
Winter - October - May - Freeeeeezing (often -30 with windchill)

So we have about 5 months of summer and 7 of winter. It seems to go from Winter to Summer overnight.

Texan · 22/06/2007 04:17

jabberwocky, I'm not Tex111 -- just plain ole Texan. I was living in London at the time I picked my nickname. Now that I'm back in Texas, it's not that special!

Earlybird · 22/06/2007 06:46

Hi Jabberwocky - I'll be in the Nashville area too. We can start our own Stateside splinter group for meetups!

jabberwocky · 22/06/2007 18:10

How cool, I finally get to meet-up with another mum When do you arrive?

jabberwocky · 24/06/2007 17:55

Oh dear, I've killed the thread

Jabber - we arrive late July, have a few weeks to settle in, and then dd starts school. She'll be in first grade. It will be interesting to compare schools/teaching philosophies between the two countries.

I honestly don't know how we're going to cope with the heat when we arrive. It's been drizzly/windy for a good portion of the past 6 weeks here, and today the high is forecast for 60. I'm wondering if dd should go to school in tights instead of socks. I know being in the south in the summer is like being in an oven. Guess we'll cope by going swimming lots and running from air conditioned place to air conditioned place!

jabberwocky · 25/06/2007 16:09

Sitting Bull, I still have the urge when I hear a train to yell out "Chooo-whooooooo" no matter where I am or how I am with

lol, earlybird at dashing from air conditioner to airconditioner It is hottest in late July and August so unfortunately you'll get the brunt of it right away. But middle TN rarely gets above mid-90's (Fahrenheit) and can still have some nice breezes. You and dd can come over to my house and we'll have some cool drinks on the deck sitting under the ceiling fan

I would recommend bare legs until the fall for school, btw.

jabberwocky · 25/06/2007 16:10

"who" I am with

Vixie78 · 25/06/2007 19:39

Hi there
Hope you don't mind me posting here.
Just wanted to say Hi as I am moving to Houston Texas in August. Is there anyone else on here living there or near by?

jabberwocky · 25/06/2007 19:41

Now there's someplace hot - and humid

I love Houston, btw.

Marls001 · 26/06/2007 21:10

Vixie - We'll be moving there by Sept.

Jabberwocky - what are your fave things about Houston?

jabberwocky · 26/06/2007 22:03

Great shopping, good food, there's Clear Lake (I think that's the right name) nearby - I had a loverly weekend on a sailboat there many years ago

Come to think of it, maybe that's why I still have such warm and fuzzy feelings about Houston

jabberwocky · 26/06/2007 22:04

Oh and you can run down to Galveston for a bit of fun for a day or a weekend.
