I see all these threads for Aussie people and thought we should have our own thread too. Not sure why, I just felt the need to make us feel special too!

So, who's stateside and where are you?

I'll start:

Mamama - in Chicago

Help needed here please!

Fingers crossed Earlybird.

Thanks for good thoughts.

Heat is now on (thankfully) as it was colder in the house than outside! Manufacturer refused to assist (definitely won't be getting that brand when it's time to replace the unit), but final cost was 1/3 less than I feared.

OverRated · 27/10/2007 03:43

Phew, what a relief Earlybird. Am glad you have heat at last.

GreatGhoulyMoogly · 27/10/2007 21:57

Thanks for the post OverRated; I'm thinking at the moment that I will "forget" the homework and see if they pull me up on it!

DH is working in Paris (France!) at the mo so FIL has come to stay (from the UK). He is low maintenance and a useful babysitter when I want to pop to the shops without the kids!

Anyone else having weird weather? One day it is really warm, the next it is cold enough to put the heating on. Today it has been bucketing with rain so we put layers on and then discovered it was 19 degrees C!

CantSleepWontSleep · 29/10/2007 22:45

Hi Ladies. Excuse me gatecrashing (and thanks for pointing out the thread OverRated), but I wonder if any of you can offer any advice about the possibility of moving from the UK to Memphis? I have a thread here with a bit more info if anyone can help.

We're back from vacation. Although vacation is really hardly the word We spent the majority of it looking at schools for ds1 next year. The one we really like is a magnet school and may require us getting in line at 2:00 am to register for him to get in

Now if I could only get a couple of Jimmy Buffet tickets at the same time...

Earlybird · 30/10/2007 03:53

Hi jabberwocky - welcome back. I wondered where you'd got to.

Are you thinking of leaving 'our' state once your ds is ready for school? Looking at schools is such a big decision - completely exhausting, I found.

jabberwocky · 30/10/2007 12:23

You are so right. We are both physically and mentally drained. We are somewhat limited in our choices b/c of my work options - I'm not crazy about sitting for a new state license exam if I don't have to. So we are mainly looking at Murfreesboro or moving back to our previous town in AR. Both have a school for the gifted that is in the public school system and considered to be quite good. The one in AR is an IB school so I have been learning quite a bit about that since it's all new really.

Glad you got the heat fixed! I'll bet you have a system like ours where it's all connected (heat/air). i had a bad experience with a unit once and finally called the company and raised hell

So glad you are OK, cali.

How did everyone's Halloween go? Earlybird, since this is your first in the US I'm interested to hear your take on it. We had fun, trick or treaters were later than usual b/c of things going on in the town square so it was a little tricky getting ds2 his bath etc. But both are in bed now and i have finally gotten my fake eyelashes off [hgrin]

alipiggie · 01/11/2007 02:59

Loads and loads and loads and loads of candy . Very happy sleeping boys. Mum sat here feet up with a large glass of wine. Was great. Snowed here this morning then the sun came out thank goodness.

Glad all are well in CA - sorry for my frantic emails SittingBull and Califright. Candy Fairy is coming tomorrow and swapping the candy for a toy for each little boy who willingly handed over the candy. I did keep a kit kat for me too.

dooneygirl · 01/11/2007 03:25

DH got about 250 pieces of candy, and we had to turn the lights out before 7:30 because we ran out(we weren't even home for part of the time). I can't believe how many people bring their kids here to trick or treat that don't even live here. DS and I went off our street, and the whole subdivision was jam-packed with parked cars of people driving their kids here. I thought I was doing ok, because there was about 15 pieces left, but a group of about 20 came up to the door, and I had to steal candy out of the kids' candy to give all of them a piece. Poor DS was sick today, so he missed the school Halloween party. We made our own party, though.

DD had a complete freak-out and DH had to take her home after 3 houses. She got her piggy, and cuddled up to it, and wouldn't let us take her coat off for an hour, she was so disturbed. Poor little girl.

Glad to hear Cali is doing well. I didn't even realize there was an earthquake today, we've been so busy.

Give him a bit, throw the rest out, tell him he ate it all! Yes, it's pretty 'gross' as they say round here.

alipiggie · 04/11/2007 01:17

Well I'm very very delighted to announce that as of yesterday the boys and I are Permanent Residents of the United States of America. Shame it means the end of a marriage but heck I didn't fight for two years to get too depressed about it all. Wish you were all here to celebrate with me.

SofiaAmes · 04/11/2007 05:12

I have greatly diminished my kids' haul by eliminating all the candy that has hydrogenated vegetable oils....(tootsie rolls are a big culprit)
Well done alipiggie!!!!

OverRated · 04/11/2007 14:40

YAY Alipiggie. Congratulations. Here's to a new start! CHEERS
