I see all these threads for Aussie people and thought we should have our own thread too. Not sure why, I just felt the need to make us feel special too!

So, who's stateside and where are you?

I'll start:

Mamama - in Chicago

ali, I think renting is a very sensible thing to do right now. Especially with interest rates and mortgages the way they are atm.

As far as moving to Boulder, I downloaded the application for a Denver license the other day Don't know if we would ever actually do it but it couldn't hurt to be able to work there.

mummimamma · 08/09/2007 21:43

alipiggie, I was at my first soccer match as a soccer mom today too! DS is 5, he was running around having fun for about 5 minutes, and then the rest of the match he decided to spend sitting in the grass moping. It was close to 90 degrees out, though, even at 10.15 in the morning...

mamama · 09/09/2007 02:42

Is it possible to be a soccer mom to a 2 yr old? DS started Soccer this week although I think I did more than he did - he was more interested what was on the other side of the dividing curtains than in the ball! They each get a tiny little football kit with "Chitown Futball" printed on the back. It's all very official!

Commiserations Califrau . Well DS1's team beat his team mates lol. As for watching the game, sadly H let me down stupid beeping man and I had to run away and get the house ready for the Open House and then run back and pick up the kids grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Whether anyone turned up or not, who knows as there was no advert in the Daily Camera he ho. Realtor's not popular either.

Was also about 90 degrees here early this morning too. Cold front moving in though, snow even forecast for the Rockies tomorrow. Don't know what we'll do tomorrow!!! Shall play it by ear.

Ooo Jabberwocky - go on you know you want too . It's wonderful here it truly is.

Whoever sent the unseasonably way hot and super windy weather, could you please take it back? Now.

mamama · 11/09/2007 04:59

I'll have it (minus the wind). It's chilly here now. Brrrr

OP posts:
Earlybird · 11/09/2007 05:11

It's 'cooled down' to high 80's in the daytime here, and we're finally getting some rain....which means it feels like a sauna outside. Had to laugh that today's weather report included a hair 'frizz factor' rating!

One thing happened yesterday which I'm sure many of you experienced International movers will appreciate.

I was home all day yesterday except for about 2 hours when I went out for the school run and to take dd to her ballet class. We arrived home from the class to find all 18 boxes from our move sitting on the front steps of the house. No advance call from the movers to forewarn/alert/arrange a convenient time. As I was (singlehandedly) moving the boxes inside, it began to rain. Can you imagine what a mess it would have been if we were away?

Still, on the bright side - it appears all of the boxes made it undamaged, so we've now got our 'stuff' - which means I can seriously progress with 'cluttering up' our new space.

@ Earlybird's movers and lol @ the 'frizz factor' - We finally have the kind of weather where, if I do my hair properly, it actually stays relatively straight for a few hours rather than puffing up into a mass of frizz- hidden curls

Where did we all go? And why is it taking my broadband close to 2 minutes to download this thread?

BananaPudding · 14/09/2007 03:59

Mummimamma, just remembered that i'm on your list as incredibleshrinkingmum in Seattle. Same person, but now Bananapudding in Texas

alipiggie · 14/09/2007 04:05

Your wordly goods could have been at sea in Hurricane season running for cover to port in Texas like mine were . Luckily all ours survived in tact. for Earlybird.

Well off for our biometrics appointment with the good ole USCIS tomorrow guys. Was it fun SittingBull???? Shall keep you posted.

We're all shattered here but coping just with work and school. I'm hoping it gets better. Just learnt that boys dad is off abroad for about a month so no help for me for a while .

Aaargh, I am trying to decide what to do for DS's birthday next weekend. I don't really feel like doing anything other than making him a cake but seeing as one of his friends has the same birthday, I may make the effort to have a playdate at the park with our playgroup... does that mean I have to take cake, party favours & food & drink for everyone or can it just be like any other day at the park? Why are birthdays so stressful?

Dooneygirl, who are you? My tiny little brain can't cope with namechanges atm

Hope everyone is well. I'm worn out.

OP posts:
mamama · 14/09/2007 04:58

sittingbull

what does biometrics involve? (other than criticizing the victim's hands )

OP posts:
dooneygirl · 14/09/2007 05:01

We've been waaaaaaayyyyyy mellow about birthdays here. Haven't done a big one for either one of mine. Can't see the fuss for them at such a young age, and I hate gift bags full of cheap crap that seem to be the requisite.

I'll give you a clue as to who I am. Mine are 4 and 2 and named Colin and Caitlin. And I appear to be the only one left in the Northwest. (I really wanted to post a big whine about how my in-laws acted for dh's 40th this weekend, and MIL was on my computer and discovered the site, so I changed my name for a ranty post, but then I realized it would be in the AIBU category, and I don't like those, and then they had the stupid day where everyone went crazy and did all the bumping of the in the news threads and went on strike, so I just stayed off here and complained at other people about how uncaring they were.) That's all the help I'm giving you as to who I am. I capitalized on my love of purses for my new name.

mamama · 14/09/2007 05:10

Love the new name, dooney - I'm glad I know who you are now

Hope you are ok after the in-laws. It all sounds a bit traumatic to me - you have my sympathy!
