Belgian MNetters Meetup!

Portofino · 31/01/2011 21:57

All this talk of new movers and schools has made me remember that we must reschedule the Xmas Meetup (cancelled due to snow/extreme minus temps).

So who is interested?

When?

Where?

(Kreecher HAS to come before she moves back to Blighty as I NEED to see photos of Yum Yum Franky)

Otherwise I am easy!

What do you think?

frazzlenz · 21/02/2011 17:26

I was just wondering if it was still on too. I'm keen if we can still muster a posse :)

LongtimeinBrussels · 21/02/2011 17:55

I'm still up for this. What time? And is it still at the Chinese place (must look further up the thread)?

Pfaffingabout · 21/02/2011 18:54

I'm free! I have an appointment near Park metro at 14:30 but that should leave plenty of time for lunch.

Portofino · 21/02/2011 20:37

Slight spanner, in that I have tonsilitus and have been signed off for days by the doctor! You 3 should be able to get it together though,,,

Pfaffingabout · 22/02/2011 19:35

Porto - hope you feel better soon.

I will be able to make lunch on 4th March as I have resigned from my job and the next one doesn't start until 14th. Thanks for posting the link to Chao Chow City - should be able to find that, no problem.

Portofino · 22/02/2011 21:42

I still feel dreadful but only signed off til today Sad. Shame to miss a good lunch though. I will look forward to the 4th. Does someone want to suggest another weekday that suits?

The King's Speech is fast approaching too! Brussels/Leuven?

OP posts:
LongtimeinBrussels · 23/02/2011 11:26

frazzlenz wasn't able to make it (checking on family in nz) and I was detained so looking forward to 4th March!

Porto, sorry, should have asked yesterday how you were doing. Hopefully going back to work wasn't too awful.

The King's Speech is out today!

Portofino · 23/02/2011 11:49

I still feel crap today, but have come back to work. I just worry about getting further behind with everything, so that doesn't help either. The news from NZ is dreadful - hoping Frazz has been able to get in contact will all her nearest and dearest Sad.

I am obviously brain dead this week - indeed the film starts today. DH is off to Denmark Tues/Wed but I am otherwise available!

Brussels / Leuven?

OP posts:
LongtimeinBrussels · 27/02/2011 13:23

Now that we're approaching the next lunch date, I thought I'd bump this thread to make sure people can still make it.

Who's still free for Friday 4 March?

Portofino · 27/02/2011 15:57

Good idea! Did you do dinner last night? Sorry I couldn't make it.

OP posts:
LongtimeinBrussels · 27/02/2011 23:27

We ate here which was fine as C was able to chat to dh about self-employment. Will tell all on Friday!

monkeybumsmum · 28/02/2011 07:51

Me!! I'm coming! Am looking forward to it!

kreecherlivesupstairs · 28/02/2011 07:53

I can't, I am being the old woman who lived in a shoe for world book day at DDs school. sorry.

Portofino · 28/02/2011 09:42

kreecher, what does that involve exactly? Grin

OP posts:
kreecherlivesupstairs · 28/02/2011 11:51

Who knows. DD volunteered me for the role. I could have been Mrs Gingerbread or A farmers wife.
I will report on my performance Smile

Portofino · 28/02/2011 23:25

No mention (yet) of this here. Dd would probably volunteer me to be Humpty Dumpty

OP posts:
LongtimeinBrussels · 28/02/2011 23:55

So where and when then?

monkeybumsmum · 01/03/2011 06:57

Sounds interesting Kreecher... Let us know how it goes! We have book day on Thursday at our school.

Longtime, think we said 1pm at the chinese place in town - Chao Chow City. I can't wait!

Grin porto!

Portofino · 01/03/2011 08:40

Yes - that's right - just across the road from the Bourse. Who else was coming? Frazz / Pfaffing?

OP posts:
Pfaffingabout · 01/03/2011 11:41

I'm coming - will have to head off about 2.30 to get the kids. Looking forward to meeting you all!

Ooh, just thought. Is there a table booked? If so, what name?

frazzlenz · 01/03/2011 11:56

I have my MIL here but I'm hoping to ditch her for an hour and two and sneak away to meet you guys...

Portofino · 03/03/2011 09:16

There is stuff about tomorrow's strikehere

For non-french speakers, there is likely to be a limited service on buses/trams/metros and a possibility that there will be some road blocks.

I will book a table at Chao Chow in my real name for 1pm tomorrow and keep an eye on the situation...

OP posts:
kreecherlivesupstairs · 03/03/2011 11:23

I didn't realise there was going to be a strike. I'll have to panic buy some wine and fags Wink
Enjoy your lunch and think of me being the OWITS. I still don't know what I've got to do.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 03/03/2011 12:12

I've just come across this
www.deredactie.be/cm/vrtnieuws.english/flanders%2Btoday/110302_Oldest_prostitute
while trying to find out about the strike Smile
Of course we don't have anything like that in fragrant Antwerp.

Portofino · 03/03/2011 12:46

The red light district is about 5 mins from here. I got lost once in the car after leaving the office...
