I presume it will be at the hospital I've requested, but I haven't a clue really. It's a good job I'm fairly relaxed as a person, because I can imagine this laissez faire approach to maternity care must be quite anxiety-inducing for someone with a low stress threshold. That said, I've booked a private scan for next weekend when I'll be 11 weeks, because I needed something set in stone for that peace of mind. If the NHS send me an appointment within a few days of the private scan I can always cancel it.

How is everyone else doing? @PurpleRayne89 has your sickness got any better?

@teampacey have you had your party yet? How much longer till your scan?

Sierra26 · 23/11/2024 07:59

@xMrsxHx87x any word on your nhs scan? Let us know how your private one goes, assuming that’s still your plan!

I’m waiting for my 12 wk screening blood results, but appt was over a week ago now so (tentatively) assuming it means they’ll come back low risk as if otherwise they’d have called me already.

PurpleRayne89 · 24/11/2024 12:11

@xMrsxHx87x hey there. No pretty much the same really lol. Sick and tired - literally. I have my 12 week scan next Thursday on 28/11 anxious but excited. I’ll update. How are you? How’s everyone getting on?

xMrsxHx87x · 24/11/2024 19:27

Everything seemed fine at the private scan! The baby was flailing its arms and legs all over the place which was amazing to see. The sonographer dated it 1 day ahead from when I had my viability scan too. Finally got a date for my NHS scan and it's not until 5th December (when I'll be 13 weeks) so I'm glad I had the private one now as it's still so far away!

@Sierra26 hopefully you'll get results back soon but as you say they may not rush to tell you if it's not bad news so hopefully that's it

@PurpleRayne89 can't believe you're still sick! Did you manage to return to work or is it still extremely debilitating?

PurpleRayne89 · 24/11/2024 21:41

@xMrsxHx87x I am glad your scan went well! It’s much better than before but I’m still being sick around 6 times a day but some days it’s better and others worse. Yesterday u couldn’t hold a thing down so paid for the dehydration today! Today wasn’t so bad so I have a feeling tomorrow will be awful. I took two weeks off and I have a weeks planned leave off the back of that which commences Monday so I won’t return until 2/12. I never go sick and have most of my leave left as I’m always working so I feel weird not doing so. My manager was really supportive however. I hope my scan goes well Thursday. Not sure why I’m anxious about it.

teampacey · 25/11/2024 07:36

Hi all! So nice to see us finally getting near to the end of the first trimester. I really hope the sickness abates for you soon @PurpleRayne89, sounds horrible. Glad you're not working atm, I imagine yours is quite a physical job too.

@xMrsxHx87x yay for private scan and also for scan date. Mine was supposed to be 5th but I had to move it to 6th, can't wait even though I'm so anxious about it too!

@Sierra26 I would absolutely say no news is good news. Let us know when you hear!

All good here, managed to get away without telling people when celebrating my birthday. It is getting harder now though- is anyone else finding that? I just want to look pregnant, feel pregnant and tell everyone!

Sierra26 · 25/11/2024 07:51

Sorry you’re still feeling so rough @PurpleRayne89, I can’t imagine being sick that frequently! Not long til your scan, let us know how it goes.

@xMrsxHx87x great your scan went well! Definitely a good idea to break up the time between the scheduled scans. Your nhs one will be here before you know it :)

@teampacey well done getting through your birthday! I keep almost slipping up as its become so ‘normal’ in our household and with our immediate families now, I have to remember everyone else doesn’t know yet 😂

I got my letter through with our screening results and all came back low risk. My ‘individual factor’ was a lot lower chance than my age related’ factor which I think is a good thing? I’m interpreting that as my NT measurement + blood results shows lower chance than normal for my age (36). I think. My PAPP-A result seemed borderline low (according to Dr Google) so I’m curious about that too.

The letter said if I had any questions I can ask them at my 16wk appt, so might quiz them a little then (more out of interest than concern - I have quite a sciencey brain!).

Now that we’ve had that result we’re going to start telling everyone else… should be a fun week 🥰

PurpleRayne89 · 28/11/2024 18:10

Hey, so I had my 28 week scan today. The Radiologist was concerned as he couldn’t see a nasal bone so he’s referred me for a NIPT / harmony test. The results come back in around 10 days. I an apparently intermediate risk for Down’s syndrome. It wasn’t why u expected to hear. My scan looks normal to me but who knows. It’ll be a very stressful 10-days for sure. I’m not sure how I feel about anything at the moment. I believe the nasal bone was the only concern raised.

Sierra26 · 28/11/2024 19:51

Hi@PurpleRayne89 I’m sorry to hear you have had this worry. Did they take your NT measurements too and screening bloods? My sonographer didnt mention anything about looking for a nasal bone during my 12 week scan and it’s not on my report but they might have been looking in the background.

Did you have the NIPT straight away or do you need to book in for it? 10 days will feel like such a long time to wait :( I’m really sorry you have to go through this. Keep us posted and here to chat if you need xx

PurpleRayne89 · 28/11/2024 20:13

Hi @Sierra26 Thanks for your kind words. The NT appeared fine along with other factors such as my bloods. They took my bloods for the NIPT there and said I’ll hear back in 10 days. Apparently the result gets sent to Belgium. I was given an informed consent form as part of the study. I will update my result here. In very anxious 😥

Sierra26 · 28/11/2024 20:41

@PurpleRayne89 I don’t blame you for feeling anxious, what a lot for you to take in. Could you go for a private scan in a few days to get a second opinion? You’ve probably already thought about all of that xx

PurpleRayne89 · 28/11/2024 20:48

@Sierra26 I am going to schedule a private scan for Friday next week if possible. I’ll be anxious on that day. I don’t think I could do it alone. My DH would definitely have to take the day off.

Sierra26 · 30/11/2024 07:59

Good idea… keep us posted @PurpleRayne89 ❤️

PurpleRayne89 · 05/12/2024 17:33

So I received the result from my harmony test which is said to be 99% more conclusive than the combined test the hospital so. It was unfortunately high risk. They want me to come in tomorrow for a scan and possible amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling (CVS). This is literally just too much for me right now and it’s very upsetting. I will update further. I’m thinking I had a day 6 blast which may have been due to chromosomal abnormalities. Also the hyperpermesis.

teampacey · 05/12/2024 18:27

I am so sorry @PurpleRayne89 what a terrible worry for you. I will hope that all turns out ok for you but can understand your fears. Will be thinking of you tomorrow.

PurpleRayne89 · 05/12/2024 18:29

@teampacey thank you for your kind words. It’s just awful. I’m really hurt and confused. I will see how I feel tomorrow.

xMrsxHx87x · 05/12/2024 19:46

So sorry to hear this @PurpleRayne89 it must be so stressful. What specifically have they said you're high risk for, all three conditions? Did they give you a measurement for NT before you had your bloods? I've just had my scan today and she talked me through all the measurements she was doing and explained what the numbers meant.

Please keep us posted on how you get on with the next steps of testing. Thinking of you.

PurpleRayne89 · 05/12/2024 19:53

@xMrsxHx87x High risk for trisomy 21 which is Downs Syndrome. My NT was 2.5

PurpleRayne89 · 06/12/2024 18:54

I had another scan today which showed soft markers. I was honestly a mess and they were all so lovely. I then went ahead with the CVS which was the most bizarre and awful experience of my life. I cannot quite explain it but I nearly passed out and just felt awful. I’m quite crampy now and feel weird. I had a private room for downtime which was great as I could cry without looks from other patients. My face was sore and burning I had to hold a cold compress. I’m home now with DH and our son and I feel happy. I’m going to have a lot of emotions over the next week or so but I feel supported. I wanted to share my experience 😆 I hope you’re all doing ok no matter your journey.

teampacey · 07/12/2024 11:55

@PurpleRayne89 I was thinking about you yesterday. Thank you for sharing your experience. I hope you are able to have a restful weekend. When will you get the results?

OP posts:
PurpleRayne89 · 07/12/2024 12:39

@teampacey Thank you for your thoughts. I get the result by mid next week the latest. I’m not holding my breath. I know why the result is going to be. I think my partner and I will have some serious decisions to make in the coming weeks.

Sierra26 · 07/12/2024 21:24

@PurpleRayne89 im so sorry that sounds like a very traumatic experience, i hope you were well looked after when you were there. Do you have some time off while you’re going through all of this? I can’t imagine, I just know I’d be so distracted and would want lots of time to be with my own thoughts xx

PurpleRayne89 · 08/12/2024 10:31

@Sierra26 Thank you. It’s a tough time and we’re navigating it the only way we know how but for now I just want to be alone. I have some time off work but I’m not sure how it all works.

teampacey · 11/12/2024 09:55

Hi @PurpleRayne89 how are you doing? Keep thinking about you

OP posts:
PurpleRayne89 · 11/12/2024 12:35

@teampacey Thank you for thinking of me. The CVS returned an abnormal result so my baby has Downs Syndrome. I have an appointment next week with a doctor. It was routine but hopefully now we will discuss this and my options. I honestly don’t know what to do. It’s a shame DS is on such a broad spectrum as the child could either live independently or either need 24 hour care and support. It’s such a gamble!
