@hopefullsosbry It is true, you learn something new all of the time. My views might be a bit bias given my experience with this journey so take it with a pinch of salt and don’t let it cause you any additional stress or anxiety. However, just ask the right questions I guess. I think you will be fine tbf ☺️

Hello, we are going through our first IVF cycle. Had my first scan on day 7 and there is only 1 egg/folicle which is absolutely gutting. Day 9 scan yesterday showed the same.

We have been told there won’t be an egg collection and we will instead be told to administer the trigger shot next week and just have unprotected sex. Has anyone ever been advised the same or heard any success stories following abandoned cycles?

@Ginie2024 thankyou. It’s now my official test day and my clinic asked me to make sure I test this morning. I did just now, and I’m still getting +++ Can’t quite believe this is happening. I am nervous, but very grateful to have got through to this next stage. Now they’ll book me in for my scan around 6/7 weeks.

@WarriorsComeOutToPlayay Im so sorry, that’s so disappointing. In my first cycle I had two follicles at my mid-way scan and they did say to me that if no others caught up that I should cancel the collection and do IUI instead. I googled like mad during that time and found that it’s fairly common practice that clinics only proceed if there are minimum three follicles of full size as the chances are very low when it’s only 1 or 2 follicle so it’s a lot to go through physically & financially for little result. But I suspect it is partly due to them not wanting it to bring their per cycle rates down.

But it is very confusing because there’s also a whole alternative school of thought around mild ivf where they explicitly only want you to get a low number 🤷‍♀️

For me, in that first cycle when I went back for my final scan I thankfully had 4/5 big enough, so they let me go with egg collection (got 3 eggs, 1 blast).
But with my second round my scans were showing even less, only 1 or 2 follicles ever got big enough and they said we would proceed regardless because I think they realised it was the best we were gonna do (got 1 egg, 1 blast) and I am now pregnant from that cycle.

Are you with a private clinic? If they cancel at this stage it doesn’t count as a round so it might be that they think you’re better off using your money to start again and trying to get more follicles. If I were you I’d ask for an appointment with a consultant and have a list of questions ready about what they’ll do if this happens on your next round. If they have a blanket policy of no collections with low numbers, then it may be worth looking for clinics that explicitly work with low numbers.

For my first cycle I was on quite a low dose and so didn’t respond to treatment well and they could see only 3 follicles and went ahead with collection. I kind of wish they wouldn’t have now as it wasn’t successful but I did get 2 eggs out and they made 2 day 5 good quality blasts (one failed to implant and one chemical) I do believe the thought behind going ahead with collection was that it only takes one, as is the case with @AnnieStar12 ❤️

This current cycle I have 8 frozen day5 blasts. Just shows what tweaking medication does!

I've just done the EC, quite disappointed, only got 3 eggs out, compared to 7 back in Jan... Trying to not cry in recovery room 😞

@EggsFrozenNow Dont cry. Both of us who had low numbers got our BFP so you have every chance of it working for you, even though it doesn’t feel like it at the moment. Rest up and look after yourself, sending hugs 🙂 xx

Had my trasfer .. they had a 4BB that was transfers .. 3 are bring left till tomorrow to see if they get better quility for freezing and 1 is not developing out of the 5 .. so lest we got 1 good one .. fingers crossed !!! This will be my 6th transfer so really hope this one works 🤞🏽the thought of another EC is soul shattering ! That’s amazing @AnnieStar12 that you are still getting a postive !! Woop and massive congratulations to you !!

@EggsFrozenNow well done, it's over now! They collected 5 but a couple were very small so I don't hold my hopes high, especially as the issue for me is egg quality. Last month I only had 3 as well and 1 of them turned 4AA and PGTA normal so don't lose hope, it only takes one as @HopefulllHolly said ❤️

I wonder if I could join this thread? Been reading through and would appreciate having some people to talk to during this very lonely process. We finally had our very first ET this morning - a 4BB. Waiting to hear tomorrow if they will freeze another 2 which are looking good. We had 17 eggs retrieved, 14 matured and 5 fertilised. My partner has low numbers and movement with sperm so they used ICSI due to this.
Feeling a whole mixed bag of emotions currently but mainly very grateful to finally be here after 4 years TTC and 2 years of IVF tests/waiting etc.

@EggsFrozenNow totally understand why you’re upset. It’s hard to go through all this and then get less than you hoped for. I know it’s a cliche to say you only need one but please hold on to that cause it is totally true.
IVF is just sooo random and I’m sure we’ve all heard every possible story so it’s not as straight forward as more eggs = BFP. Look after yourself, im sure you’ll feel better tomorrow x When will they update you?

@RunningOnHope I'm 5 days past and totally get you this blissfill unknown I like, I'm too scared to test, I have beta at my clinic on Monday and I don't want to go 😞

Just got the call and only 1 of the 3 eggs was mature, so only 1 frozen... I know it only takes one, just devastated to go down from 4 to 1 after all the improvement I've done to my lifestyle ....

@RunningOnHope @camelinastorm I’d say don’t do what I did and test early unless you want to be a maniac and test every day. I did it to soften the blow as I was sure it would be negative, but once it was positive it just meant worrying about chemicals and things, a stress I would have probably done better without. The temptation gets really hard at 5dp as you know there’s a chance a positive would show, but equally, it could still be burrowing in and might not show on a test. It’s a horrible wait!! Keeping my fingers crossed for you both 🥰

@EggsFrozenNow Really sorry to hear you got less this time, it really is unpredictable! No cycle is ever the same. That one egg might be wonderful though so you never know! Are you planning on doing any more collections?
