IVF/ICSI May or late April

Is anyone else gearing up to do IVF/ICSI in May?

My meds have arrived and I start my down regs next week to start a long protocol ICSI cycle, my egg collection will then be mid-May.

Had my first ICSI cycle in Feb which resulted in only 1 embryo which was transferred on day 5, but BFN. I found the support group on here super helpful with my last cycle, so wondering if anyone else is in a similar position?

TMI (if that's a thing doing this whole IVF stuff😂) but with the cyclogest pessarys are you just meant to let it dissolve in there for the foreseeable future.. as in I just feel like the inside of my vagina is SO waxy and honestly slightly gross 😂 sorry this feels SO TMI but I'm just thinking is it just meant to be like that for the whole time you take them😅

I am doing 3 a day so not sure if that makes it even worse than it is already 😂

Rebekah77 · 09/05/2024 09:29

@Ashleighlouise that made me LOL!!! Err try the bum ? 😅

this process is so glam eh ?

bleeding and in agony is not a vibe , clinic say it’s upto me if I want to continue . If I can stand the pain carry on basically. Can’t make a decision , just on the sofa crying with hot bottle . In two minds about everything

So I tried the bum on the first couple of tries and it gave me the WORST trapped wind of my life and now I am scarred 😂😂
Exactly what I was thinking SO glam!

Oh bless you 😔 it's so hard to know what the right thing to do is, is this bleeding your period still? How long do they usually last?

HopefulllHolly · 09/05/2024 09:52

@Ashleighlouise try them up the back passage. I don’t notice anything whatsoever with them up there now. No residue and apparently better absorption.

I did try the first couple up the back but they gave me such bad trapped wind that it's just worried me to do it again especially so close to transfer, trying not to be tense 😂

HopefulllHolly · 09/05/2024 10:40

Haha 😂 I did have that a little but it’s calmed down now. I’m a seasoned expert at the bum bullets now 😂😂

Rebekah77 · 09/05/2024 11:06

Omg bum bullets ! 😅

ugh think it’s just from the provera I’ve got another 5 days to go , my ovary is in agony . Was hoping they would just tell me what to do but it’s like it’s upto you .. if you can endure the pain continue

last two times it’s been stopped due my pain levels , would really like to just get through one lot

glad I could take holiday today and just curl up in bed

HopefulllHolly · 09/05/2024 12:07

@Rebekah77 bless you, I’m sorry you’re in so much pain. Especially after trying so hard with your diet and weight etc. Have you ever had months with no pain, or is it the drugs specifically making it worse?

CreamLampshade · 09/05/2024 12:24

I’ve also tried the back passage but found it quite hard to get in and I think it gave me loose stools! But yes waxy knickers otherwise!

ive just had an email out of the blue from the guys counselling service saying I’ve been referred for counselling. This is something you have to request yourself which I haven’t done so I asked who had referred me and the therapist said one of the nurses had and that I was ‘struggling’ at the end of my last appointment… I was absolutely fine! The doctor came in, said it had been a text book transfer and I was laughing and joking! Actually quite annoyed. Feels like a breach of my privacy to have a therapist email me out of the blue? What do you think, am I over reacting?

it’s made me worry that they’re so sure my two early blasts won’t stick they’re pre-empting it with counselling which has had quite the opposite to the intended effect!

WarriorsComeOutToPlayay · 09/05/2024 12:33

Can I join please?

We are starting IVF this month, I start the injections in late May. We only had our first appointment yesterday and everything seems very quick so I’m a little overwhelmed but very (cautiously) hopeful.

I’m 41 and we have suffered infertility for years and then we had a miracle natural pregnancy that sadly resulted in a TMFR last year due to our baby having a life limiting heart condition. After an unsuccessful year of trying since our only realistic chance is IVF. I finally feel mentally strong enough after our heartbreak last year to try this so we’re going ahead.

May I ask what supplements people are taking? I haven’t been advised to take any other than vitamin D and folic acid but is there anything else I should consider taking to boost my chances of success, particularly at my age?

Ashleighlouise · 09/05/2024 13:47

@WarriorsComeOutToPlayay welcome! Sorry to hear about your hard journey and losing your baby last year, I can't imagine how painful that must have been, especially after it being such a miracle getting pregnant in the first place 🤍

Once the ball gets rolling with IVF I feel like everything is thrown at you in such speed! Do you have any idea what has caused infertility? Have you had other tests? In terms of supplements I'm just taking folic acid, vitamin D and Omega 3! X

Yes I guess waxy knickers are hopefully in for the next 12 weeks if all goes welll 😂 I will welcome that with open arms if it means I get to be pregnant!!!

Oh bless you, I would also feel a little blind sided especially if you felt like you didn't really display any reasons for the nurse to refer you for counselling 😕 she may have just done it to try and have it there regardless of the outcome - however I feel like counselling is such a personal choice and definitely shouldn't be one to be made for you!

I would be like you and would be overthinking everything so it isn't really ideal for your stress levels 😮‍💨😮‍💨

Rebekah77 · 09/05/2024 14:21

@HopefulllHolly I’m in pain everyday but this is even worse yes it’s happened everytime on provera I’m just trying to cling on until Monday night

my other half is fed up now after 18 months .. I understand but I’m already upset enough with all the delays myself !!

Doin some work in bed I need a distraction and crying just isn’t helping ! Just feel even more rubbish

cat sitting at the moment so gonna go get some cat cuddles later 😂

@CreamLampshade I can understand that would irritate me … I think as annoying as it is try and just do whatever is relaxing right now . Zen and all (easier said than done I know right !!)

@WarriorsComeOutToPlayay welcome lovely
I saw the clinic nutritionist got a free session then I saw Mel brown for specific tailored supplements etc
I use ovum pre natal is tailored for ivf

HopefulllHolly · 09/05/2024 14:44

@CreamLampshade Personally it wouldn’t bother me I’d just be confused. But counselling is great, I’m an advocate for therapy - I’ll definitely be doing it if this cycle doesn’t work.

@WarriorsComeOutToPlayay welcome! Hope the injections go well! The time really does fly by once you start IVF, it’s crazy! I am 37 and got advised to take CoQ10 (equinol) 600mg, vitamin d (high strength) and folate, but I also really rate Wild Nutrition fertility tablets which have all your other nutrients. They don’t make you sick if you take them on an empty stomach and are all naturally derived, and have all your recommended vitamins in them. The CoQ10 is recommended for egg quality btw. I started taking all the above in November and started my first cycle this month, because I wanted the very few eggs I knew I would get to be as strong as possible. 😊

HopefulllHolly · 09/05/2024 14:46

@Rebekah77 Thats rubbish. I guess if you want to do IVF then you have to get through the pain as awful as it is, unless they have alternatives for Provera (not sure what provera is)?

Rebekah77 · 09/05/2024 14:52

It’s progesterone to induce a bleed , so they can schedule surgery date for collection as mine is under general . then they schedule it in reverse if that makes sense

I tried notheristorone it was even worse so the last 3 attempts I’ve done provera . They said maybe they could try hrt but it would delay for around 6 weeks and it isn’t really advised in chronic migraine

still no schedule lol 😂 ag well I know stims start on 19th and I’ve got everything ready to go

CreamLampshade · 09/05/2024 17:53

@Rebekah77 that seems a bit odd when you might have to extend the cycle anyway if you aren’t responding! Why do they need to do general and not the other kind of sedative (if you don’t mind me asking)?

norethisterone sent me absolutely loopy so I asked not to take it and wait for natural bleed. Which they were fine with, but I had the normal sedative where you’re asleep and don’t remember but not fully anaesthetised I don’t think.

Rebekah77 · 09/05/2024 18:01

@CreamLampshade only one ovary is visible due to endo , with me fully asleep they can try to access the stuck side. No promise it will be safe to but at least they can try

they only do it set days of the week so it’s normally booked 4-6 weeks in advance

it’s absolutely rotten the provera and it’s my bad side that’s in agony so not like they can scan either ! Hopefully can get back to work tomorrow all the painkillers

WarriorsComeOutToPlayay · 09/05/2024 18:54

@Ashleighlouise thanks for the recommendations. Our fertility problems are due to me having endometriosis and ovarian cysts. I also have a low egg count and my husband has a lowish sperm count. Gosh it sounds bad writing it down!

@HopefulllHolly and @Rebekah77 - thank you for the guidance, I really appreciate it.

2tuxedocats · 09/05/2024 21:41

Welcome @WarriorsComeOutToPlayay I’m using Pregnacare for supplements on advice of my clinic. On the subject of cyclogest I vote 🍑 I don’t always have time to lie down for 20 mins after and there’s been hardly any mess 😂

Sorry for being a bit AWOL - I will have to eat my words about no side effects because this evening I have felt so nauseous 🤢 I don’t feel like I’m going to be sick but my stomach is churning. I hope everyone else is okay and for those that have appointments that it is going well.

HopefulllHolly · 10/05/2024 07:33

Oh no @2tuxedocats sorry you’re feeling rough! Maybe it’s a good sign though! I feel totally normal now, everything that I’d class as a symptom I had before my transfer, so I’m already feeling low 😖🥺 Been quite tearful the last day or two.

@wishfulbean how are you feeling? Your lurgy gone now I hope? Feeling any different?

Cloclo93 · 10/05/2024 08:05

Finally starting my injections tonight! The nerves and excitement has hit 😁😁

Ginie2024 · 10/05/2024 08:06

Hi all, how are we all holding up? My little 3 warriors are still growing (I think) and waiting confirmation tomorrow morning if they are normal/strong enough to be sent for PGTA testing. To those who have had their EC, were you still bloated 4 days later? I am in pain and super bloated but unsure if this is normal...

@WarriorsComeOutToPlayay welcome and I am sorry to hear what you and your partner went through 😔
I use Ovum, which is a supplement that my doctor recommended (I could only find it online) but I would definitely definitely recommend CoQ10 at least. Good luck!

HopefulllHolly · 10/05/2024 08:17

Yay how exciting @Cloclo93 ☺️

@Ginie2024 Fingers crossed those little embryos put on a good show for the embryologist! Yeah I was super bloated after egg collection, and it carried on after. My weights gone back down now after I put on almost half a stone 😅 just dropped off me so must have been water retention and bloat combined. Hope it calms down soon!

Ashleighlouise · 10/05/2024 09:29

@WarriorsComeOutToPlayay oh bless you, it's awful when you say it out loud and you just think WOW! Does your clinic have a good plan for you going forward?

@2tuxedocats hope sickness has eased off a little bit xx

@Cloclo93 Good luck with your injections tonight! They will be absolutely fine 🤩

@Ginie2024 I'm hoping our little embryos are doing ok as well! We haven't had an update since we found out how many have fertilised on Tuesday but I am hoping no news is good news and they are all growing & developing strong!! I felt a little bloated after EC but it's completely gone now.. but it will be normal to still feel a little bloated!
