FET/IVF/ICSI - October 2033

Anyone due to start cycle/have transfer in October jump on board!

Little history:

TTC our first. Trying for 4 years. Officially unexplained but I only have one ovary that responds/works. Fertilisation issues. Positive Sperm Oxidative Stress Test (likely DNA Frag). So it’s really a bit of a mix.

Dec 22/Jan 23 - First ICSI cycle. 8 eggs, 6 mature, 2 fertilised. One poor blast to transfer. Nothing to freeze. BFN.

July 23 - Second ICSI cycle. Using AOA & ZyMot chip. 8 eggs, 8 mature, 4 fertilised. One fresh to transfer and 2 to freeze. BFN.

Oct 23 - First FET scheduled.

Currently waiting for my period to start so that FET cycle can start. Should start beginning of Oct, so FET likely towards end of the month.

@Hopingforno2in2023 wear something white and absolutely do not have any period products on hand. That should do it 😂

😂😂😂😂

Just went to the loo and I reckon I will be in full flow by the time I finish work at 13:30.

Lauralozzle · 25/10/2023 10:10

@GabbyGal Yes, I find symptom spotting is almost impossible because during the 2WW for my last two transfers I’ve had cramps and sore boobs. Boobs are very sore now, but then again I’m on x3 pessaries and one injection a day. That’s a lot of progesterone so I’m putting it down to that. The sniffly nose, headache and chesty cough is 100% down to this cold!

WFH is so much easier when you feel a bit rough - well enough to work, but not well enough to be in the office talking to people. Plus, since Covid it’s bad form for us to go into the office when you have something you could pass on!

This made me laugh 😂😂

Thanks everyone - back home and have a day of Netflix ahead! Do not know how you get through waiting for update calls etc.

Well I spoke to embryologist and out of the 7 eggs collected , 4 were suitable for fertilisation and 3 fertilised normally so we have 3 embabys in the making 🤞I knew it goes down but just wondering if you think those numbers are a normal drop off ?
Gosh it's such a stressful wait to know if any are going to make it

Lauralozzle · 25/10/2023 10:59

@MoonlightDreamer It sounds like 4 eggs were mature so you’ve had 75% fertilisation rate which is pretty good (my fertilisation rates are shocking!).

The drop off does seem normal to me. Hopefully those 3 embryos make it to blast. Fingers crossed 🤞

The embryologist has just phoned and out of the 19 eggs, 14 were mature which sounds ok?! They've done the ICSI now and he said all seemed to be ok with that so 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

MoonlightDreamer · 25/10/2023 12:00

@marshk that sounds great. You've got plenty to work with

Lauralozzle · 25/10/2023 12:11

@marshk That sounds great!

I hope you’re all going well!

I’ve just had EC. I was told 19 follicles then upped up 24 however ‘only’ 11 were able to be collected. I’m not sure on maturity yet.

I’m trying to be positive but I’ve had a little cry as the number was less than expected and as we’re self funding this will be our only round.

Wishing all of you all the very best!

KJ00 · 25/10/2023 12:28

Could I ask how old all you ladies are?
I'm 36 so wondering if I'm the oldest here?

I had my first ivf cycle and I currently have 2 embryos that are day 2 now. We may have a transfer tomorrow. Still not really sure of how the process works. Why would they transfer on day 3? What difference would it make ? I think the concern is if we take it on to day 5 we might have nothing left but if day 3 wouldn't make it to the blast stage anyway aren't I putting myself through the heartbreak of a transfer for no reason?

Lauralozzle · 25/10/2023 12:36

@ThinkPink37 It’s natural to be a little disappointed but hopefully those eggs are nice and mature.

@KJ00 I’m 35. They may transfer day 3 if you don’t have many embryos. Some clinics do day 3 regardless I believe. I think the thought is that they’re better off in their natural environment.

ThinkPink37 · 25/10/2023 12:36

@KJ00 I’m 37 and would say I look on the average younger side of the waiting room ☺️.

I’m not sure about the day 3/5 blasts as I’m having PGD but do know if I wasn’t they were suggesting transfer between day 3-5 so sounds normal.

MoonlightDreamer · 25/10/2023 12:42

@KJ00 no your not the oldest. I'm 37 ( 38 at christmas)
Currently in a similar position and looking at a day 3 transfer which I'm also trying to figure out the purpose of the difference

GabbyGal · 25/10/2023 13:01

Hi @KJ00 I just turned 39 so you’re definitely not the oldest! I had a day 3 transfer on Monday as we only had one embryo. The logic is that the embryo may have a better chance of thriving in its natural habitat. If you have multiple embryos they will culture to day 5 as it’s easier to tell which ones are better grade at day 5 and decide which to transfer. They only tend to do that with multiple embryos as there is a chance that not all day 3 will make it to day 5. That’s my understanding anyway!

@ThinkPink37 try not to get too hung up on the number of eggs, for all you know most of them could be mature and you could end up with lots of embryos! Fingers crossed 🤞

@marshk 14 mature is amazing!

@MoonlightDreamer everything crossed that’ll you’ll have 3 embryos when they call you in a couple of days 🤞

Millie89xx · 25/10/2023 14:17

Hi guys hope I can jump on about to start short protocol tonight starting on meriofert anyone at a similar stage ?

Hopingforno2in2023 · 25/10/2023 14:46

3 potential embryos sounds good @MoonlightDreamer :)

Glad you have a lovely number of mature eggs @marshk

Appreciate less than expected but 11 eggs is a good number @ThinkPink37

I am about to turn 35 @KJ00

I bit the bullet and rang the clinic as I would say I am more than spotting now. I find it so hard to know where to draw that line. I should be starting stims tomorrow @Millie89xx

MoonlightDreamer · 25/10/2023 15:09

@GabbyGal good luck 🤞
I didn't realise you had transferred. I haven't been able to keep up these past few days.
I think they are assessing my situation on Friday. I'm booked for a day 3 transfer but if Friday comes and they think one is doing better than the rest they will let it go on to day 5.
What's annoying is said they aren't aiming to freeze any spare . One is the goal and the others will be disposed off

Hopingforno2in2023 · 25/10/2023 15:12

Have they said why they wouldn’t freeze spares @MoonlightDreamer? I haven’t heard of a clinic refusing to freeze embryos that meet the quality standards.

IVFKinster · 25/10/2023 15:16

What?? @MoonlightDreamer are you sure that's what they said? That would be absolutely crazy 😵‍💫

Hopingforno2in2023 · 25/10/2023 15:18

So if you end up with say 3 5AA embryos they chuck two amazing embryos? Surely that can’t be right?

IVFKinster · 25/10/2023 15:20

Can I be cheeky and ignore almost all of the recent posts and ask a quick reassurance question for others who have just had or previously had transfers? I will read over them and potentially respond when I feel more sane 😣
1dpt today and I'm having a bit of spotting (tiny pink/brown dots) which I assume is just from the cervix irritation of the catheter, does that sound right?

I also have bad lower back pain, does THAT sound normal?

Has anyone felt like the world is ending the day after transfer? I was giddy with happiness yesterday and today I had to call in sick after my first appointment as I was either hating everyone or crying at nothing 🤨 just want to know if that's a normal reaction.

MoonlightDreamer · 25/10/2023 15:45

Thats more or less what the embryologist made out unless I took him wrong ..
We were always under the impression excess suitable would be frozen .. but now it seems they are only going to freeze if they reach blastocyst stage, and not freeze any day 3.
do they not freeze day 3? I'm pretty sure I've heard of freezing them. Unless it varys per clinic?
When I asked if we had a transfer on day 3 would they try running the others onto day 5 or freeze them and he said so no were only looking for one ..
This is where I came to this conclusion otherwise he would have said yes of course

IVFKinster · 25/10/2023 16:08

In theory @MoonlightDreamer they'll only do a day 3 transfer if it's looking like none of them are going to make it to day 5. If they were developing in a way that the embryologist thought they would reasonably get to say 5, you wouldn't have a day 3 transfer. So in that way I guess it makes sense? It sounds like a bit of cross communication and not explaining their rationale properly. Might be worth confirming that if you have a day 5 transfer they'll freeze any suitable day 5/6s to give you some reassurance.

MoonlightDreamer · 25/10/2023 16:22

@IVFKinster ah thankyou , that makes sense then.

I've had that issue quite a lot during my cycle, the reasons for things have never really been explained to me

ThinkPink37 · 25/10/2023 17:56

I’ve just had the early results back from EC:
7M2, 3M1 and 1GV
As we’re using ICSI they are going to attempt to fertilise all Ms.

Anyone had any success with M1s?
