FET/IVF/ICSI - October 2033

Anyone due to start cycle/have transfer in October jump on board!

Little history:

TTC our first. Trying for 4 years. Officially unexplained but I only have one ovary that responds/works. Fertilisation issues. Positive Sperm Oxidative Stress Test (likely DNA Frag). So it’s really a bit of a mix.

Dec 22/Jan 23 - First ICSI cycle. 8 eggs, 6 mature, 2 fertilised. One poor blast to transfer. Nothing to freeze. BFN.

July 23 - Second ICSI cycle. Using AOA & ZyMot chip. 8 eggs, 8 mature, 4 fertilised. One fresh to transfer and 2 to freeze. BFN.

Oct 23 - First FET scheduled.

Currently waiting for my period to start so that FET cycle can start. Should start beginning of Oct, so FET likely towards end of the month.

@MoonlightDreamer I wouldn’t worry and I’d take it as a win. You might find they’re all back tomorrow!

@ViVRe I glad you’re recovering well! 10th of November gives you time to relax and recover nicely. Only 3 weeks away too, so not too long a wait. We’re all experts at waiting now!

Should find out on Saturday what time my transfer is on Monday. So I’m waiting for Saturday to arrive. After painting I think we’re going to look at cars. Insurance company have written off the car after the crash. Just waiting on a settlement figure.

We were going to get a bigger car if/when IVF works. Feels a bit like we might be tempting fate to get a family friendly future proof car, but realistically, any car we get needs to last a good 10 years. It’s a bit of a dilemma, cause we don’t need a much bigger car with us two and the dog. But we hope there will be another set of legs at some point to account for! In which case a bigger car will be useful. Argh. Decisions!

@Hopingforno2in2023 Will your clinic give you a letter for work? You could just tell them you have a medical appointment/procedure and will have a letter for them afterwards, and then just give it to them. They probably won’t ask any more questions.

@marshk Hope the migraine has subsided.

Thanks @ViVRe, good to hear egg collection wasn’t too bad for you, it gives me hope 😊

@MoonlightDreamer I wouldn’t worry, my symptoms have been pretty minimal throughout, I was worrying earlier today as I thought I would feel worse after the triggers last night rather than better! But now this evening I have lots of twinges and I’m worrying I’ll ovulate before egg collection.. basically I think we can read too much into any symptom or lack thereof and find a reason to worry!

@Lauralozzle Hmm that’s a pickle with the car. Maybe go and look and see how you feel when you see different cars, maybe you’ll like a bigger one anyway? At least you have a few things to distract you over the weekend.. the time will fly in and it will be transfer day before you know it!

IVFDublin · 20/10/2023 07:35

Glad to hear you’ve had a smooth post-collection recovery @ViVRe, hopefully I’m in for a similar experience! But so far so good…

@Lauralozzle oh yes the bum bullets! I had it in my head for some reason they were separate. I think I’d prefer that than the fizzy knickers?! Starting today 🫣

@MoonlightDreamer you’ve just got to trust the process! I was the same until just before egg retrieval. It’s definitely a bit disorienting though when you’ve mentally prepared for a more physical side of things! But don’t worry

For those who have done egg collection… how long did it take for the bloating etc to fully go? I still feel a bit swollen (and very tender boobs tbh! It’s like pre-period) … I am VERY excited to feel like myself again. Dying to do some exercise!!

marshk · 20/10/2023 07:48

I have to say fizzy knickers is an absolutely brilliant phrase 😂

marshk · 20/10/2023 10:09

Ah goodness just had my scan - there are 13 follicles there all of the right size for day 8. Was slightly disappointed with it - which I know is ridiculous - it's just because I have so many follicles there without the drugs! But my husband says I'm being ridiculous and it's spot on where they'd want me to be.

Another scan booked for Sunday morning with egg collection potentially on Tuesday if all well

Maddie23 · 20/10/2023 10:49

Hi all,

Hope I'm okay to join!

I'm due to start my stims on day 2 of full flow so currently waiting for AF to arrive!

I'm on the short protocol but have very high AMH so will be on low doses to try and prevent OHSS. We have male factor so will be going ahead with ICSI.

Hope everyone is doing well!

4thcyclelucky · 20/10/2023 10:49

Thanks for the welcome messages all :)

I had my second scan today, I think she counted 9 in total and a few more below 5mm. Just waiting for bloods to determine when to start cetrotide. She said they are growing slower this time because of the estrodial priming. Anyone familiar with that?

@IVFDublin I have had 3 egg collections now, and for me it takes at least 2 weeks for everything to go back to its normal size. It didn't stop me exercising though once I feel well enough that is.

Also, anyone familiar with endometrium scratching? I think it's not done in the UK, but the doctor told me they might check my endometrium for fragments and that directly results in a endo scratch prior to transfer... whatever that means!

IVFDublin · 20/10/2023 10:58

@4thcyclelucky theyre great numbers for your scan! 💪🏻 and good to know about how long it takes after egg collection… yeah I was thinking of some gentle exercises this weekend, will see how I’m feeling!

Just got the call from the clinic - 6 eggs matured (of 7 collected) and 3 are now embryos. Feel disappointed even though I knew this would be a realistic outcome. Fingers crossed for a good one come Sunday!

biscuitsndtea · 20/10/2023 14:36

Hope the scans are going great for everyone.

Started nm cetrotide today , two days later than scheduled initially.Waiting for my day10 scan tomorrow.

Does anyone know whats the average follicle size for day8 and10 scan ? I am worried that they were not growing faster as they have delayed my cetrotide. Do they normally give the measurements at every scan ?

MoonlightDreamer · 20/10/2023 15:03

@marshk ah your synced with me then :) I have another scan Sunday morning too and collection booked Tuesday.

I have possibly 13 follicles growing. 10 confirmed on my right and they think maybe 3 🤷‍♀️ on the left but they couldn't view my ovary properly so unable to confirm. They also arent quite big enough on my left to be counted but he said they should grow and hopefully will see then at my next scan. My right is doing all the work. He said he's not worried and that he's happy but like you I couldn't help but feel a little disappointed. I know its a good number growing so far but I have lots of follicles aswell and it was anticipated that I'd responded alot better.
I was set to have a freeze all but now apparently a fresh hasn't been ruled out , should we fingers crossed have any embryos

MoonlightDreamer · 20/10/2023 15:07

@biscuitsndtea I wouldn't worry. I started cetrotide on day 8 of my cycle

marshk · 20/10/2023 15:12

How funny @MoonlightDreamer - same scan day and same number of follicles!

I've got my head round it now and I'm glad touch wood no OHSS which is what I was worried about. It's daft to be disappointed with 13 but hard not to be slightly disheartened.

I had it in my head that it would be a freeze all if we got that far - hadn't even considered a fresh transfer but based on the numbers id say we might be able to do a transfer?! Have they said anything to you about it specifically

GabbyGal · 20/10/2023 15:16

Hi all, egg collection went well this morning, doctor was hoping for 5-9 eggs and got 8 so I’m happy with that. Feeling ok, tired and a bit crampy but otherwise fine.

@IVFDublin fingers crossed for your embryos 🤞

@biscuitsndtea I wasn’t given an exact breakdown but I had a scan the day after I started cetrotide and had follicles measuring between 8-13 which the clinic was happy with at the time. Two days later they were measuring between 13-17 and egg collection was scheduled for 2 days later.

4thcyclelucky · 20/10/2023 16:39

Just had a phone call from the doctor re. blood test, I need to go in for another scan tomorrow and this cycle may be abandoned as one follicle is growing faster than the rest😢

Reading up about abandon cycles (I'm with Create Fertility), it's going to be more money down the drain + bloatedness and discomfort for nothing 😭

GabbyGal · 20/10/2023 19:39

@4thcyclelucky sorry to hear that, fingers crossed the scan goes well tomorrow and the cycle can continue 🤞

marshk · 20/10/2023 20:21

Really sorry to hear that @4thcyclelucky - fingers crossed for good news tomorrow

CDiamond · 20/10/2023 20:35

Hi all

Very good to follow everyone's posts and journey here (although catching up after 2 weeks so struggling to keep up!). I am on day 4 stims today; decided to do another fresh cycle rather than FET. My medicines have been changed a bit; this time I'm on Pergoveris+Fyremadel (as opposed to the last 2 cycles being Gonal+Menopur+Fyremadel). Anyone had a change of this kind and know much about Pergoveris?

Here is wishing everyone the v best of luck xx

CDiamond · 20/10/2023 20:54

@IVFKinster - I promised an update on what advice i was given. Given the 2 failed fresh rounds, I was asked to consider:

  1. doing an FET time, with the 1 frozen embryo from second round. They said it would provide a chance to test how embryo does in a cycle close to natural (least medicines, etc for FET)
  2. doing another fresh round this time but with a view to freezing any/all embryos - again similar rationale to option 1 with a later FET cyclerather than a transfer in a high medication fresh cycle

Guess what? I went with the option they didnt suggest - another fresh round with a view to transferring 1 - or even 2 - embryos. I guess ultimately one has to go eith their gut and my gut was just telling me i need to do more fresh cycles. Husband was happy to go with my gut feeling.

I did take their suggestion on a slight medication change. I'm on Pergoveris+Fyremadel this time (as opposed to the last 2 cycles being Gonal+Menopur+Fyremadel).

How is it going for you?!

biscuitsndtea · 20/10/2023 21:21

sorry to hear that @4thcyclelucky , fingers crossed the scan goes well tomorrow xx

biscuitsndtea · 20/10/2023 21:22

Thanks @MoonlightDreamer :)

IVFKinster · 20/10/2023 21:22

Thanks @CDiamond thanks for remembering to update! That's interesting. I'm so impressed that you made a decision based on your gut instinct! Way to advocate for yourself! 😊

I hope the medication change is helpful. Loads of luck for your cycle 🤞🤞

I've gone a bit quiet and not kept up with the thread as I've started progesterone and I'm going through a bit of a mental health wobble. It feels very selfish to keep moaning when I'm so close to transfer and it's a challenge to even get that far for a lot of us. I'm on day two of progesterone today. Lubion injections make me sore afterwards! Transfer Tuesday 🤞 just keeping telling myself it'll all hopefully be worth it!

biscuitsndtea · 20/10/2023 21:27

My DH normally does the injection for me. Today I did it alone for the first time. I screwed it up :(
I pricked the needle, started injecting and realised I havent removed air and there was loads of air in the syringe( atleast half the syringe)

So removed the needle out and injected into another site after removing the air. It started bleeding as soon I started injecting.

Now I am worried thinking that
If I have injected air the first time
If I have hit the vein the second time ( do vein actually exists in the tummy , no clues)

Is it ok incase if Injected some air ( in the tummy) . Is it normal to bleed while injecting ? 😓 My injection site was around my tummy where my clinic showed me.

IVFKinster · 20/10/2023 21:28

I hope you get good news @4thcyclelucky. That's an absolute shit and I've got everything crossed there's a way forward without cancelling for you!

8 is a great number @GabbyGal!

@IVFDublin I know it's hard not to be disappointed. I hope the disappointment fades over the next day or so as it settles in. It's understandable as an instant reaction regardless of how realistic we are. 3 embryos is really great though!

Welcome @Maddie23 I did short protocol due to OHSS risk and ICSI due to MFI too (but also PCOS for me). I hope AF turns up when expected for you.

Hope everyone is getting on okay!

IVFKinster · 20/10/2023 21:34

@biscuitsndtea well done doing it on your own so overwhelming the first time. You won't do that again as next time you'll hopefully feel calmer and be able to take your time. It'll be a blood vessel rather than a vein if anything but it's like if you stick yourself with anything sharp anywhere else, it might bleed sometimes. A little bit of air in the syringe is absolutely fine. Obviously good practice to avoid but harmless going into fatty tissue etc. As long as it stopped bleeding then it'll be fine. Try not to worry ♥️ if you are still worried then check in with your clinic tomorrow but I'm sure you're okay. It might get a bit more of a bruise though!

Babyplease23 · 21/10/2023 02:03

Hi all,

Period has arrived earlier than my clinic anticipated (typical!). I'm supposed to start stims on day 2 of period but I'm out of the country for work (also typical!). I stupidly didn't bring any meds with me as I wasn't expecting my period to arrive early and I won't be home until Sunday, so will miss the first day of injections. Stressing myself out now that this will affect my cycle and can't contact the clinic until they open in the morning! Hoping they will just tell me to continue meds from Sunday...

Sorry to hear about the complications with your cycle @4thcyclelucky I'll be keeping everything crossed that you get some good news at your scan and don't need to abandon the cycle!
