IVF/ICSI/FET - June 23

Hi!

I'm going to be starting my medications ready for a FET in June. Anybody else in the same boat or starting their cycles?

I've done one round of ICSI and had a fresh transfer in March that wasn't successful but we got 5 frozen day 5 blastocysts from it. Happy to answer any questions for anyone starting their journeys :)

@Raleighx welcome to the group! How are you finding the injections so far? Highly recommend sticking an ice pack on the area before injecting. I barely felt them that way 😊

Lebe14 · 07/06/2023 20:33

Oh @Floralsandsmiles I'm so so sorry to hear about the step back, especially when everything else was ready to go :( but at least they can get everything sorted (hopefully quickly and you won't have to wait too long), so that you're 100% fit and healthy when you do start your first IVF cycle. Better them finding this now than further down the line.. I know that won't make it any easier for you though. How are you feeling now? I hope you're okay xx

Lebe14 · 07/06/2023 20:39

Welcome @Raleighx!

I'm starting my first IVF cycle soon too. Meds are arriving on Friday and period is due next week around 14th. So just waiting for that to then arrange my first scan and fingers crossed everything's okay so we can move ahead. I guess I'll be around a week behind you- ish??

I'm really not looking forward to the stims. My nurse said the bemfola I'm taking isn't bad at all - thin needle and easy to use. But the Fyremadel which I'll need later on (as well as Bemfola) apparently isn't as nice - thicker needle and can sting. I'm hoping I'll be expert at the Bemfola by that point it won't be as bad haha..... wishful thinking! I have got an ice pack on order from Amazon though - nurse highly recommended that for the Fyremadel.

X

@Lebe14 i am so needle phobic and honestly didn’t find them too bad. I got my husband to inject me and I never looked. Ice pack is a good shout 😊 any questions, please feel free to ask and lots of luck!

Thanks @KG1244 that does make me feel better. Defo going to be using an ice pack - anything that'll help. Hopefully my mind will let me stick the needle in, otherwise the OH will need to be on call 😂

Weirdly, I really want to be able to do them - to get a kind of sense of achievement x

Raleighx · 07/06/2023 21:10

@KG1244 thank you! ooh thanks for the tip ☺️ finding them okay so far. I knew what to expect from doing my wifes but I thought they would be fine as I have quite a high pain threshold.

what are you ladies doing about alcohol? We’re not big drinkers anyway - probs share a bottle of wine once a month unless we’re on holiday. we’re currently on a break away so I had a few drinks last night and the night before which I felt bad about but hey. Totally cutting it out from today but my other half was saying have one it won’t matter, we’re on holiday! But I want to know I’ve done everything I could and give it the best chance.

what else have you girls cut out if anything? I need to massively reduce my caffeine intake - I love coffee and Coke Zero!

Lyrabee · 07/06/2023 21:35

Welcome @Raleighx good luck with all your injections!

I've cut down on my caffeine and I'm not drinking any alcohol! I did have one low alcohol drink during my first cycle which didn't take and I'd rather just not have that on my conscience this time but I genuinely don't think one drink will hurt.

I'm cutting back on sugar as well which is a killer and I'm taking vitamins!

@Floralsandsmiles oh my lovely I'm so sorry you've got another bump in the road :( hopefully they won't leave you too long before treating it as that can definitely be a worry, I'm not sure if you can try and speak to them and let you know what's going on so they might nudge it forwards faster?
It's better to be now though rather than it being something sinister and you being pregnant. I'll keep all my fingers crossed for you. Take your time, cry it out - we've all needed that at some point in this journey xx

Hi @Lyrabee 👋I have spoken to the GP, sent on the private results and they are urgently referring me to colospcapy. So hopefully they will see me soon and figure out what's wrong and a plan forward..
I know it's better to know now, but to be so close to starting and then this, was a shock.. I just need time to process is all xxx

I was told that I could use emla cream to help with injections by my clinic... so I had some ready. Pharmacy stock it. No good to me now, however thought I'd pass it on.. xxx

Lyrabee · 08/06/2023 09:06

@Floralsandsmiles hope you get sorted as quick as possible so you can get back to the treatment! I'm keeping fingers crossed for you x

@Floralsandsmiles very sorry to hear this, glad the NHS are jumping on it and hopefully any treatment you need will be done just as quickly! Glad you are feeling more positive today! X

Welcome @Raleighx ! Well done for getting the first injection out the way, I feel like it’s always the worst. I do all mine as my husband is super squeamish and I think he would annoy me. The injections I have this time are different to what I used last time and do look a bit more injection like, the other one was just a pen!

Also re drinking, when I did my fresh transfer I stopped drinking completely about 2 months before treatment started. This time as we are doing a FET I have been a little more relaxed, and stopped drinking a few weeks ago ready for treatment this month.

I can finally start my medication tomorrow after a 55 day cycle! 🙌

Hope you had a lovely holiday @HopefulHead When is AF due? Hopefully you haven't got too long to wait. V exciting x

Sqiggle85 · 12/06/2023 14:49

Welcome back @HopefulHead hope you had a lovely time. Where did you go?

Hope AF doesn’t leave you waiting and you can start soon!

I am currently on day 4 of meds, telling ok except I went out for dinner with friends on Saturday as I soon as I got out the car I just felt a massive leak from AF (sorry TMI) I had to pop home to sort myself out but literally all night I was in the loo every 30 mins needing to change. Not sure if the heaviness/clots were due to the medication or that I was so late. It’s calmed down now so hopefully was a blip.

Hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine! ☀️

Lyrabee · 12/06/2023 17:40

@Sqiggle85 oh no! Maybe it's just refreshing itself, getting rid of everything in preparation 🤣

I had my scan today, womb lining thickening nicely so having transfer next Monday

Oh exciting @Lyrabee ! Glad all is progressing nicely.

I’ve got my scan next Monday to see how it’s going.

HopefulHead · 12/06/2023 19:05

Thanks @Lebe14 & @Sqiggle85 🥰
I went to Benidorm, was good but the weather was a bit hit and miss, it was hotter here!!
AF was due today but no sign :( and I don’t have the symptoms that it’s on the way so I’ll just have to wait and see 🤷🏼‍♀️

what tablets are you on @Sqiggle85 ? That doesn’t sound like much fun at all 😬

@Lyrabee How exciting!!! How are you feeling?

KG1244 · 13/06/2023 08:58

Hi all, happy Tuesday! I’m looking for some advice, I’m hoping I’m not the only one that finds family gatherings with lots of small people quite challenging. How do you handle it when you have to go?
