IVF/ICSI/FET - June 23

Hi!

I'm going to be starting my medications ready for a FET in June. Anybody else in the same boat or starting their cycles?

I've done one round of ICSI and had a fresh transfer in March that wasn't successful but we got 5 frozen day 5 blastocysts from it. Happy to answer any questions for anyone starting their journeys :)

So I've had my consultation today and have been given a prescription for my meds - I can get them directly from the clinic however they usually cost more apparently so I've been given 2 other places to get quotes which are likely cheaper.

My period starts around 14th June so we're moving quickly to start this cycle. I've been prescribed 450 bemfola and have a nurse appointment next week to talk through everything in more detail.

The day I get my period I need to call the clinic to get a scan the following day. They'll check internally and if all good, I'll then start the daily bemfola injections. I've been given 12 on my prescription. I'll then need to take fyremadel which I believe stops ovulation and I'll be told when to use them, based on how the bemfola is working as reviews during the regular scans. I'm getting a full treatment plan sent via email but this is the short version!

Eeeeek so daunting... and definitely now becoming real.....!!!

Good news is that my husbands semen tests came back very good - so at least it's just me. My consultant is still recommending ICSI though - due to my eggs - which I'm glad about as would rather try everything in the first round.

Feels like we'll all be starting our meds a similar time this month! X

Aww this is fab! Thank you for the update! I'm so glad that we are all going into this together! Xxx

Definitely @Floralsandsmiles. I hope your appointment goes well tomorrow - keep us updated.

I forgot to mention that both me and my husband had to have blood tests today too - to check for certain things - usual protocol for IVF when you first start. Although I'm having to go into London next week for mine, as non-specialists can never get blood out of me for some reason 😂.

Thank you @Lebe14 , I will let you know!

And aww man, they haven't mentioned about needing DH blood, will ask tomorrow and hope they can do an appointment back end of the day for him to go when he has finished work xxx

I think I might be the first one to start taking the meds out of the group, should be around 3rd June although my cycles are often a few days different so I might end up being a bit later. All the calls and bloods have been done, everything paid for and now just waiting for day 1! I messaged to book in for their counselling session today. Having felt pretty excited up until now the reality of it all hit me last night and I’m so worried I’m going to go through the ivf only to have another miscarriage. I just can’t wait for this chapter of my life to be done with and to know I get a baby in my arms

Aww @MrsF111 , some really positive steps! You sounds ready for this journey and have thought of everything. I have every faith that you will have your BFP soon and all this pain will have been worth it. Sending you hugs xxx

@Floralsandsmiles and @Lebe14 thank you 😘 this is a lovely group, praying for lots of baby dust for us all

HopefulHead · 01/06/2023 09:20

@MrsF111 Ahhh exciting that you’ll be first to start 😃 and not long to wait!
It is super daunting, and I remember having a mini breakdown a couple of days before we were due to start (my poor Dh got the brunt of it!) but then once we got going it all just sort of rolled away by itself and I didn’t really have time to think about what I was doing, just got on with it and before you know its all done.
It is scary but we’ll all be here cheering you on and it’ll be so worth it ❤️

Lyrabee · 01/06/2023 16:44

Hiya Everyone, good luck @MrsF111 with your meds once they start!

AF came for me last night so I've started my tablets today. I've got my scan to check my lining on the 12th :)

Keeping my fingers crossed for all of us!

Hi @Lebe14 @HopefulHead !

So I had my consult! And all great news!

Results are as follows:

Amh 18.8 (my age is normally between 10 and 20)
Follicles 19

1.4 testosterone (previous gp bloods it was 3.7!!)

1.1 TSH (previous 1.7 - both normal readings).

All my vitamins she said are great and will help with egg quality and wants me to continue with them all. Especially happy about coq10, folic acid and vitamin d. So those are the main ones to take.

ICSI isn't needed as DH has above average performing sperm apparently. Lol

I need to have a mock transfer as when I had abnormal cells removed from a smear a few years back, she said sometimes the cells can grow back and form a scab and it interrupt the embryo transfer. So the mock transfer is to check there is no issue. If I wait until the day, they won't be able to do the transfer and it will cost me more to freeze all..

They are happy for us to go ahead with this cycle, said we are both straight forward and said our chances are 40%, with her saying within 1 or 2 rounds, we will be pregnant. Worst case 3. She said she was confident on that 😊

So more bloodwork this week for us both, the mock transfer if I can fit it in, the meds to be delivered and we can start on day 2 of my period 😊😊 xxxx

So glad to hear the consultation went well @Floralsandsmiles. It does feel like the first big step doesn't it?

Are you planning to start this month too then?

I've started getting quotes for my meds (quite expensive as I'm being put on a high dose of bemfola 😂 but luckily I budgeted worst case scenario) and have my nurse appointment next week to talk through everything in even more detail. Got sent some videos on the process (45 minutes worth!!) that I've had to watch today, plus how to inject the meds etc. Lots of info to take in xx

Yes it really does! And we are over the moon as a previous issue the GP found of high testosterone for me is gone! And its due to me loosing nearly 25lbs in the last 7 weeks 😊😊
Yep starting this month. Af is due on the 10th, although this may move as ovulation was late this month.
Aww that sounds like alot, having to price check all meds, ours luckily are included in our package and I've asked and all meds they recommend for me are definitely included, which is a relief 😊
We have our medication appointment to be scheduled next week, after the mock transfer. Lol I know I will have so many notes for this! Lol cxx

HopefulHead · 01/06/2023 19:07

@Floralsandsmiles Thats amazing news and definitely great numbers!!!
My AMH was 14 and I only had 7-9 follicles in my baseline scan (went up to 15 by the end of stims) and we got 7 eggs with 4 blasts from it so I think you’ve definitely got a great shot with those numbers! 😃😃😃

@HopefulHead aww thank you, this is super reassuring to know! Thank you! Xxx

Lyrabee · 01/06/2023 20:18

@HopefulHead yeah a frozen transfer this time! They do say sometimes it's a higher chance with frozen because your body has recovered from the medication so fingers crossed 🤞

@Floralsandsmiles those results are fab! What do they do on a mock transfer? That's a new one to me!

@Lebe14 we had loads of videos too! I watched them again when the medicine had been delivered but actually found the instructions in the box better for me to follow!

@Lyrabee they just said they set up as a normal transfer and make sure that the apparatus can get through OK to the cervix. So they can rule out an issue apparently xxx

Floralsandsmiles · 01/06/2023 20:28

So the medication that I've been told I will be on I've listed below, please can anyone let me know of any side effects they had from these? Or things I need to be aware of?

stimulation medication
(Bemfola, Cetrotide), trigger medication (Ovitrelle/Buserelin) and up to 2weeks of Luteal support medication (Utrogestan /progesterone pessaries)

Xxx

HopefulHead · 02/06/2023 05:47

@Lyrabee Yes I have heard that too, and my clinic told me my body would have almost certainly rejected a fresh transfer because my levels of progesterone & eastrodol (however it’s spelt lol) were so high, so I definitely feel more confident knowing my body has had time to go back to normal, and another reason I’ve opted for natural!

@Floralsandsmiles The only one I had out of those was Ovitrelle, my symptoms all the way through were pretty normal - bloating, heavy feeling ovaries, tiredness etc but everyone is different I think.

OK thank you @HopefulHead! I'm still confused on the timeframe between meds and egg collecting. They said I would have 10 days of stims, does that mean I there is more days for trigger shot etc? As i thought it was 12-14 days between. This is mild ivf with abc, so maybe different from standard ivf..xxx

Lebe14 · 02/06/2023 09:45

@Lyrabee I think I'll do the same. Not worry about the videos again for now and then read the instructions when they arrive. Really hope I can do them!!

@Floralsandsmiles I've also been prescribed bemfola. My AMH is only 4.4 and follicle count was 11, so I've got 450 iu. I've been prescribed 12 days worth, but it depends on the regular scans as to how many days I'll take it. E.g. if the follicles are growing well, I guess I might not need the full 12 days. I then have 6 days worth of Fyremadel which they will tell me when to start using based on the scans and follicle growth. Then the trigger shot - which is the same as yours, Ovitrelle - they will tell you when you need to administer this, again from the regular scans. Then I believe the egg collection takes place around 35/37 hours later. So they will tell you exactly when to administer the trigger, to the exact hour!

I've had two quotes for my meds now - both around £2,250, so think I'm just going to go with the place recommended by my clinic.

Xx

Lebe14 · 02/06/2023 09:47

To add to the below - I'm not doing a fresh transfer after egg collection, so it's only egg retrieval meds I'm taking. We're doing a freeze all cycle (if of course we have any good embryos to freeze) x
