IVF/ICSI/FET - June 23

Hi!

I'm going to be starting my medications ready for a FET in June. Anybody else in the same boat or starting their cycles?

I've done one round of ICSI and had a fresh transfer in March that wasn't successful but we got 5 frozen day 5 blastocysts from it. Happy to answer any questions for anyone starting their journeys :)

Thanks @Lyrabee ❤️ Its made me change my mind about doing another transfer asap after this one if it doesn’t work though 😬 I found the 6 day wait to see if our embryos made it to the freezer really hard but this is even worse isn’t it?! Definitely feel like I’ll need a little break if this one doesn’t stick.

How are you feeling today?

KG1244 · 11/07/2023 10:02

Completely echo what @Lyrabee has said. It’s still really early. I know the waiting is like pulling teeth. Try and do what you can to keep yourself distracted xx

Lyrabee · 11/07/2023 10:04

@HopefulHead aww lovely :( I didn't mind the wait after EC, I think cause I was still so excited it passed very quickly for me. But the 2ww is the worst!
I'm okay, still quite tired but I think that's just me wanting more sleep 🤣

HopefulHead · 11/07/2023 10:07

@KG1244 I really thought I’d be better than this with the distractions to be honest lol. Wish I could just get in bed and sleep until OTD to be honest 🫣

@Lyrabee Hopefully the tiredness is starting to ease from the progesterone now though? 😬 honestly what we put our bodies through is actually mental isn’t it 😭

Lyrabee · 11/07/2023 10:12

@HopefulHead I think it's just normal tiredness, I stopped my vitamins so that won't have helped. I need to start those back up

OP posts:
HopefulHead · 11/07/2023 10:52

@Lyrabee I was wondering this the other day - because I’ve now been taking high doses of so many vitamins over the last year, surely if / when I stop those I’ll notice a difference in myself? Especially stopping the vitamin D! What do you take? They’re so bloody expensive too, that it’s just not feasible to take them long term is it.

Lyrabee · 11/07/2023 11:50

@KG1244 They are expensive! I've got a stockpile now because I ordered from Vitl and they accidentally sent me like 3 months worth. It's a monthly payment with them and they get delivered. It's like you choose what you want to focus on in yourself so they're customised to you.
I include their Fertility vitamin but I switched to pregnacare for the month I had the transfer.
I never know what's right with vitamins lol 😆

OP posts:
HopefulHead · 11/07/2023 13:18

@Lyrabee Oh that’s good! I’ve never heard of them, will definitely look at that! I always just order mine from Holland and Barrett as and when I run out of one, but the cost is just ridiculous 😭
I got pregnacare max for pregnancy on a 342 offer a few months ago so I switched to those after the transfer and it’s like a weight lifted just taking those, vit d and folic acid now compared to the 13 a day I was taking before transfer 🙈

Lyrabee · 11/07/2023 14:45

@HopefulHead omg thats a lot! Yeah the pregnacare are great but expensive. I got the trying to conceive ones on offer

OP posts:
HopefulHead · 11/07/2023 14:55

@Lyrabee Its because I read ISWTE and felt bad not getting all the supplements it recommended 🙈😂
Honestly I never imagine ivf would be as hard as it is. I’m not sure if I’d actually do it all again had I known what I know now. But when my Dh told me he was infertile when we got together I was like ‘oh ok, well there’s avenues we can try if we do want children so no biggy’ how naive I was 🤣🤣🤣

Lyrabee · 11/07/2023 15:02

@HopefulHead aww I know it's so full on with lots of misconceptions.
At least you knew in advance I guess? We had to do so so many tests and got the 'keep trying' advice a lot!

OP posts:
HopefulHead · 11/07/2023 15:11

@Lyrabee Yeah you’re absolutely right there! My DH had been married before so was already pretty aware he couldn’t conceive (she had a child from a previous relationship) but they just never really perused it so when we decided to start trying we only tried for about 6 months before he went to the docs as it just confirmed what we already knew.
We only got married last year and I keep thinking thank god we did know as it meant we got referred earlier, he did his first sperm sample in 2021 so if we’d waiting until we were married, then tried for 12 months before going to the doctors I’d have been nearing 40 by the time we got to the transfer point. I suppose I should be grateful to him for his honesty 😏😂

Was your unexplained then? Guessing it was a long process if they had to do a lot of tests on both of you 😞

wtawtaw · 11/07/2023 15:40

Hi all, I'm new to the forum, hope you don't mind me joining this thread!

I started to read through the posts and then realised I need a spare few hours for that 😅

I had my embryo transfer yesterday! This is my second IVF cycle (first was in January but it failed and we had no frozen as back up so had to start again). Fingers crossed it works this time!

My OTD is 21st July!

Good luck to you all xx

HopefulHead · 11/07/2023 16:19

Hey @wtawtaw Im in the TWW too 🥰 OTD for me is 18th July but I have already started testing 🙈

Sending lots of luck back at ya 😘

wtawtaw · 11/07/2023 17:01

Aww @HopefulHead that's brill, can't believe you're testing already 🤭 did you have a 5 day blast transferred? I'm guessing the tests say negative at the moment? It's such a wait isn't it!
Is this your first transfer?
Wishing you all the luck!

HopefulHead · 11/07/2023 17:26

@wtawtaw Yeah 5 day blast & first transfer 🥰
Definitely negative at the moment 🙈 I know I should have waited lol

pixiemum2 · 11/07/2023 21:10

Hi all,

Have had a couple of absolutely busy days with work, but I think the distraction has really helped me to stay occupied and sane.

@HopefulHead definitely too early to be testing, but I do understand how the temptation can be overwhelming, just don't let it get you down as it may well hopefully change!

@wtawtaw welcome! How are you feeling after your transfer? Are you on progesterone as well?

@Lyrabee @KG1244 it sounds like you could potentially be on the same timelines again for your next cycle!! How awesome would that be! I am glad things are moving forward for you and you can look ahead already!

So with a super busy weekend and crazy work days, I didn't get to message but my test day was today. Had a blood test in the morning and the clinic called to say that my result is positive! HCG level is around 57 (needs to be 25 to confirm pregnancy) but I have to go back tomorrow as they want to see that it's rising every day. So, am cautiously happy 🤗

wtawtaw · 11/07/2023 21:13

@pixiemum2 oh wow, congratulations!! 🥰 was this your first transfer? Good luck for tomorrow!

Yes I'm on cycolgest pessaries, my clinic say to stop them on OTD if positive though! When does your clinic stop them?

Lyrabee · 11/07/2023 21:33

@pixiemum2 yey! Congratulations! Amazing news I'm so happy for you ❤️

Welcome @wtawtaw so was yours a second fresh transfer? I don't ency you having to do the collection again! Fingers crossed for your tww to fly by!

@HopefulHead yeah we had to do a lot of tests, I was incredibly lucky to get them all through insurance and various health apps we have through work (I work in health care insurance lol) but we still had a wait while we got appointments and such. Weve paid to go privately - the NHS wait times were horrendous, we started their waitlist as well and had already done a cycle before we even got a consultation. I think we had quite a bit of bad luck in the beginning like scanners breaking so having to wait another cycle for appointments and the clinic didn't tell us some results from blood tests so we had to chase and wait another cycle or two it was a right palaver.

After all the private tests they confirmed DHs sperm count is good quality but there was a low percentage of motility so they're there just not swimming 🤣

Lyrabee · 11/07/2023 21:34

In other news my SIL brought twins into the world today so I'm feeling a bit sour 😬

OP posts:
wtawtaw · 11/07/2023 21:38

@Lyrabee yes second fresh. This time we have 6 in the freezer though. Where are you in your journey? Tww?

Lyrabee · 11/07/2023 21:46

@wtawtaw aaah amazing! 6 is how many we had after the 5 day wait :) I had a frozen transfer last month but it didn't take unfortunately so just waiting my follow up to sort out another transfer :)

OP posts:
wtawtaw · 11/07/2023 21:54

Aw @Lyrabee it's so hard to deal with when it fails doesn't it, do you know what grade you frozen was? Hope your next transfer comes around quick for you 😊

Lyrabee · 11/07/2023 23:09

Thank you @wtawtaw it is just that feeling of ugh another cycle to go through. I have no idea about grading, I go to Care Fertility and they didn't say. All they told us was we had one 9/10 and the rest were 10/10. Which tells me nothing lol

OP posts:
HopefulHead · 12/07/2023 05:53

@pixiemum2 Congratulations 😃😃 hopefully todays tests confirms all is good and your hcg is rising nicely 🥰❤️

@Lyrabee It seems that private arenas lax with things as the nhs clinics seem to be too 🫣 at least you did manage to speed up the waiting time though, I think it’s definitely worth going private if it’s an available option to you, I’m glad we got our free round from the nhs but it definitely is frustrating how long the wait times are!
