Anyone here about to start a cycle in March?

I am about to start my first IVF cycle tomorrow; short protocol.

LF82 · 01/04/2023 14:15

@CDiamond mega stressful! Try & do some nice things to keep you occupied the next few days x

nizo1245 · 03/04/2023 08:42

Morning! Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Just had a day 3 update. Of the 6 eggs that fertilised we've got 5 still going.
1 really good quality, 3 reasonable and 1 that's a bit slow but you never know, it might catch up.

Booked in for a day 5 transfer on Wednesday.

Desperately trying not to get my hopes up, but last cycle we had to go with a day 3 transfer of a fairly low quality embryo because it was our only chance, so we're 1 step further this time!

How is everyone else getting on?

CDiamond · 03/04/2023 15:04

Got all my fingers corssed for you @nizo1245 xxx

Hi @nizo1245 , our numbers are very similar! I'm on day 3 post EC. They collected 10 eggs, 6 fertilised and 5 are still going on day 3 🎉 I'm also booked for transfer on Wed. I know there is a potential for a large drop off between day 3-5 but feeling hopeful we will get at least one good blast 🤞🤞🤞
How are you feeling post EC? I felt very sore on the weekend, pain worse than I expected to be honest. Turning the corner today, just feel a bit bruised.

nizo1245 · 03/04/2023 15:42

@CDiamond thank you! 😊

@Jupiteer it's a terrifying stage to be at, isn't it? So much hope but aware that it might all fall apart by the next update.

I'm feeling ok now. I had 8 eggs collected. Most follicles were on the left and I definitely had more pain that side the first day. I've been taking paracetamol and trying not to sit still for too long as it's always worse if I have to get up after being stationary for ages. The pain is mostly gone now but I've been sneezing a few times a day and I can't explain how much pain each sneeze causes in my stomach. 😳
Are you taking progesterone pessaries?

Fingers crossed for both of us on Wednesday! Trying to be cautiously excited!

Jupiteer · 03/04/2023 15:50

@nizo1245 yes I'm on the pessaries since yesterday. Already a bit sick of them, especially as doing 3 per day. But if they help will try anything. I've been scared of the side effects as always feel moody on the progesterone only pill. Feel ok currently but think it's too early to say!

nizo1245 · 03/04/2023 16:02

@Jupiteer I started them yesterday too. I don't find them too bad, haven't noticed being anymore moody than usual 😂
I think I'm just glad to be far enough through the process that I can see the finish line for this cycle.

I've spent far too much time today looking at research on how many day 3 embryos make it to day 5 etc.
Definitely need to find something to be more focussed on tomorrow to pass the time!

CDiamond · 04/04/2023 17:51

@nizo1245 @LF82 @Loulou2202 @Nic64 @Jupiteer Any of you know about cramps and bleeding in the TWW?

I had mild cramping c. 2 days post transfer; more period like cramps days 6-7 and today day 9, I have some slight bleeding. I just am barely abel to hod it together; feel like weeping. None of our other 4 embroys made it to day 5 so we will have to start all over again (and wont be NHS funded ever again).

@CDiamond I wish I had some advice but I haven’t had a transfer yet. It must be so hard, have you thought about ruining your clinic to ask their advice? X

Jupiteer · 04/04/2023 21:34

@CDiamond I'm in the same position as LF82, have not had a transfer yet, my first one is scheduled for tomorrow. In the paperwork I received from the clinic it does say spotting is common and not to be concerned. But I understand why you are worried. When is your test day?

CDiamond · 04/04/2023 22:14

@Jupiteer and @LF82 thank you for your kind responses. Tets day is Friday. I wouldnt worry about the bleeding so much if it wasnt for the cramps and back ache as well. Feels very much like i am getting my period :(

@Jupiteer good luck for your transfer tomorrow! my fingers crossed for you. xx

Loulou2202 · 05/04/2023 07:33

@CDiamond sorry I’m in the same boat as other ladies , too early in the process to give you any advice but I can understand why you’d be worried. I really hope it works out for you xx

nizo1245 · 05/04/2023 07:40

@CDiamond I've had 1 transfer before and I didn't start bleeding until a few days after I stopped the progesterone pessaries.

I don't think that's the same for everyone though as I've read about others who started AF before their test date.

I think it's another one of those 'it could be pregnancy or it could be AF' situations and only time will tell.

Really sorry you're in this position and hope it turns out well for you!

nizo1245 · 05/04/2023 14:19

@Jupiteer how was your transfer?

Just home from mine. I'm absolutely pinching myself that they've transferred a 5AA blastocyst. Last time we didn't get past day 3 so it feels a bit surreal!

We've got 1 other that looks good enough to freeze and they'll monitor the others until tomorrow but they don't think they'll progress any further.

Trying to be cautiously optimistic at this stage! 🤞

Jupiteer · 05/04/2023 15:36

Hi @nizo1245 yes transferred a 4AA today! Looks like we both have good looking embryos on board 🎉 are you testing on the 14th? It's going to be a long 10 day wait.
We have 2 looking good enough to freeze and a possible other one which may catch up. Not sure on the grades but they will let us know tomorrow. Feeling so grateful! 💜

nizo1245 · 05/04/2023 17:08

@Jupiteer yeah 14th for testing!
My clinic do a blood test which is non negotiable even if you've tested yourself.

I'll probably test that morning so I'm prepared in case it's negative.

2 to freeze is awesome, 3 would be even better!
Congrats!

Jupiteer · 05/04/2023 17:59

Yes I have a blood test booked for that day too. Unfortunately my husband has to work on the 14th and can't get out of it. I think will try and hold out and do a urine test the night before so we are together for the result. It will be hard not to test earlier though!
Did you do any of the embryo transfer old wives tales like the McDonald's fries? I choked down an entire pineapple core this morning (not v pleasant) and then only this afternoon I read that you are only supposed to eat a quarter a day for the first 4 days 🤣

nizo1245 · 06/04/2023 06:44

@Jupiteer I mentioned the McDonald's thing to DH and we were at the drive through within half an hour 😂
I'll be sticking to a healthy diet for the rest of the 2ww though.
There's absolutely no way I could eat a pineapple core so I'm going to try and not get too into any of those kind of things and just focus on lots of water and lots of short walks. The nurse also mentioned the occasional sports drink can be good to add in electrolytes, but not every day as they have caffeine in them too.

I'll be able to test the morning of the 14th with DH so I'll hold off until then. The thought of a negative test before then is a bit too much, I've never been an early tester because the disappointment just crushes me.

Will you be carrying on with the pineapple core?

Jupiteer · 06/04/2023 09:36

No I think as I had my whole dose of pineapple core in one day that will be enough 🤣
Looking forward to Easter as doing quite a bit of family stuff which will be good for taking my mind off the tww! Because we have unexplained infertility but no problems seen with sperm or tubes I have always worried if I have an 'inhospitable environment' and already wondering if the embryo is still going or has been ruined by my womb. It will be a long 10 days 😶

Jupiteer · 06/04/2023 09:39

Oh and have you guys on the thread told anyone you're having ivf? I only told one friend and our families / other friends don't know. I thought it would be too much to give them constant updates and field their disappointment if it doesn't work. However I am sure this will mean some comments this weekend like 'when are you going to have a baby' which always sting.

LF82 · 06/04/2023 09:54

@Jupiteer like you we have only told one friend, as I can’t deal with the extra pressure/questions. I truly hate the ‘are you/when are you going to’ comments but decided managing them were easy than telling people x

nizo1245 · 06/04/2023 10:18

@Jupiteer were the same, we've told 1 person but decided not to tell family.

I couldn't handle the pressure of people asking about it all the time.

Plus DH's family are very overbearing and he doesn't trust them with sensitive information. They have zero boundaries and regularly make us feel guilty that we haven't provided them with a grandchild yet.

Jupiteer · 06/04/2023 15:17

@nizo1245 that's terrible about your partners family. There is no way they should make you feel guilty about not having a kid. Surely everyone knows it can be hurtful to question this as nobody knows your situation. Even if it was by choice (which obviously it is not) then that would be your own personal decision and nothing to do with them! I hope you don't have to see them over Easter and can have a peaceful time xx
