Anyone here about to start a cycle in March?

I am about to start my first IVF cycle tomorrow; short protocol.

@CDiamond the clinic told me it has to be exactly 36 hours between trigger & egg collection so I think you definitely need to tell them so they can adjust the timings of your procedure. Am sure it will be fine though!

nizo1245 · 20/03/2023 13:24

@CDiamond I hope everything goes ok and they can still proceed!
It's such a nerve wracking process as it is, but I know some people have had hard experiences with abrupt nurses etc. So hopefully they go easy on you.

Loulou2202 · 20/03/2023 15:05

Sorry @CDiamond this is my first round and I’m not that far yet so I have no idea about the timings . Looks like you got some good advice from others. Hope it all goes ok xx

CDiamond · 20/03/2023 16:04

@nizo1245 @LF82 @Loulou2202 Thanks a lot for the responses. They said no change for now and to come on planned time; but that they have made a note in the system and if the doctor wants to delay the procedure by 45 mins he might.

I have been having some mild cramp like pains since yeterday; is this normal to expect close to collection (and post trigger)?

Collection in tomorrow. Nerves.

LF82 · 20/03/2023 16:13

@CDiamond thats good news, I think I had mild twinges/cramps/generally uncomfortable- I blamed the injections
good luck for your egg collection!

nizo1245 · 20/03/2023 16:37

@CDiamond I actually can't remember from last time but I think I felt a few cramps. I just remember being really uncomfortable on the day of the egg collection because of the size of them.

CDiamond · 21/03/2023 17:13

Collection went well; they got 6 eggs and they need to do ICSI albeit SA much improved with the lifestyle changes and supplements. Now the wait begins.

@LF82 @Loulou2202 @nizo1245

How are you all doing in your journeys this month?

OP posts:
LF82 · 21/03/2023 17:29

@CDiamond thats fabulous news, just take it one day at a time now. Got my fingers crossed for you!

I am waiting for AF to start so I can start this round. Am a few days late but have had some twinges today so think it’s on its way. Just went to get going again. Am not telling anyone again so working out an excuse as to why I am not having a drink this weekend when seeing friends! X

nizo1245 · 21/03/2023 21:31

@CDiamond that's awesome, glad it went well!
We'll be doing ICSI too. DH has antisperm antibodies so it's always a bit of a gamble on the day to see whether the sperm is good or not. Last cycle the sperm was great on the random 'practice' day but poor on the ecc collection day when it mattered.

I'm on day 6 of stims. Had a scan today and it was a different doctor to the ones I've seen before. She couldn't seem to find my right ovary for ages and only counted 1 follicle there but I think someone else would have seen more as usually my right shows more than my left. She counted 3 big ones on the other side and a few more coming through, so not huge numbers but hopefully will have a few more at the next scan.
They're not scanning me again until Monday.

I was feeling really positive in the lead up to this cycle and now I've hit a brick wall and I'm worried it's not going to work again 🤦‍♀️
It's such an emotional rollercoaster!

Loulou2202 · 21/03/2023 22:02

@CDiamond thats amazing! How are you feeling after the procedure itself?

Im on my 2nd to last day of Norethisterone and all going as it should I start stims next week so not much going on for time this week apart from being a bit moody and spotty thanks to the Norethisterone lol x

SadieBarts · 23/03/2023 12:35

Have you all had your collections? Mine went ahead yesterday and I suffered very badly, the pain was awful. Short of breathe today, so having to monitor it in case it is OHSS.

CDiamond · 23/03/2023 17:27

@SadieBarts - so so sorry to hear; that sounds really bad. Is that a common thing in OHSS cases?

I had my collection on Tuesday and it went well; was fast asleep and very minor discomfort after for a few hours. I was lucky i guess.

@LF82 @Loulou2202 @nizo1245 - I was ok; as said above, the procedure was very smooth for me, thankfully. Had a call the next day (yesterday) saying all 6 eggs were mature but only 5 had fertilised (they said they'd keep the unfertilised one under watch in case it catches up but they didn't think likely). They think it will be a day 5 transfer on Sunday AM. All feels unreal really!!!

OP posts:
SadieBarts · 23/03/2023 17:31

@CDiamond Thats good to hear. I overstimulate, so always high chance of OHSS and that is one of the symptoms. I had it as soon as I come round from sedation but it hasn't got worse. The pain yesterday was unbelievable afterwards though, which I didnt have on collection day last time. Currently have 22 fertilised, I know a high amount will drop off on day 3 though.

My 2 cycles have been very different.

LF82 · 23/03/2023 19:28

@CDiamond that’s great news! Will have my fingers crossed for you for the transfer. My AF looks like it’s just about to start so time to start the ball rolling again x

Jupiteer · 24/03/2023 16:16

Hi all.
Congratulations to those who have had EC and hope your embryos are coming along nicely?
I'm on day 15 of stims and have 10 follicles but they are still only 12mm. They are growing very slowly, I was started on a super low dose of stims as grew 40 follicles last cycle and it had to be cancelled before the EC due to risk of OHSS. At least it doesn't look like OHSS this time but looks like I will be on stims for like 20 days before EC. Not great but the clinic says still a good chance of getting some eggs so to keep pressing on 🙂

LF82 · 25/03/2023 08:58

@Jupiteer sounds like everything is coming along even if it’s a little slower than you thought 🙌

My AF has finally arrived so first injection tomorrow and first scan booked for Wednesday!

SadieBarts · 25/03/2023 17:19

@Jupiteer I havent heard of them canx the collection before due to number of follicules. Last year I had over 80 and they still went ahead (only collected 34 that time). This time I had over 40 and it went ahead. Was on a super low dosage. Glad it is going well this time.

nizo1245 · 26/03/2023 10:31

Morning, hope everyone's having a great weekend!

I'm on day 11 of stims today and feel very bloated! We went out to do the weekly shop this morning and I was the most irritable person I've ever been 😂

I have a scan tomorrow morning where they'll hopefully say we're ready to trigger.
Definitely more bloated than last time, but they haven't scanned me since day 6 so really got no idea what's going on in there 🤷‍♀️

DH has had a cold the last few days. Not covid, he's been testing every day but a sore throat and sneezing. It's been affecting his sleep a bit too.
Anyone know if it's likely to impact sperm quality?

Nic64 · 26/03/2023 16:45

@nizo1245

Hi sounds like your same part of the cycle as me. I'm on day 11 and feeling ridiculously bloated today, I've also got my scan tomorrow and I think egg collection will be Wednesday.

I doubt it will affect sperm quality but I can relate as I've got a cough and sore throat and it's driving me mad just want it to go!

Good luck for scan tomorrow!

nizo1245 · 26/03/2023 16:52

@Nic64 I'm hoping they say egg collection on Wednesday too! I'm at the stage where I just want these things out of me 😂
Definitely more bloated on the left than the right which is weird as I usually have more follicles on the right.

Thanks, good luck for your scan too tomorrow!

Nic64 · 26/03/2023 17:59

@nizo1245

Ah me too! I've got more follicles on the left too. I'm really scared about the egg collection but at the same time I'm excited for what's to follow.

This our first ever round so no idea what to expect and just hoping everything goes smooth!

Let us know what they say tomorrow ☺️

CDiamond · 26/03/2023 18:08

@Jupiteer - ah very good ot hear you are going again and if they say slower is not a problem, then hopefully it will all work out well. Good luck and fingers crossed for you.

@Nic64 - welcome to the thread! I am a first timer too. Did you have EC this week? How did it go? Mine was smooth and lovely actually (had a good sleep!).

@LF82 @Loulou2202 @nizo1245 - So.. i had my fresh transfer today. Despite a good fertilisation rate (5 of 5 fertilised), I had a very poor development rate. Only 1 good quality embryo (3to4BB) that was transferred today and the rest are apparently not good enough for freezeing; they would not tell me the scores of those today as they said they will wait till tomorrow to give it all one more day and then call me.

I was so saddened by the news of the other embryos dropping of at such a rate given we had good fertilisation rate. Anyone know anymore about this?

Trying to keep calm and focus on the chance we currently have with the embryo transferred today (and looks like we will have to have another round if this doesnt take as there is unlikely to be anything frozen to go to). So frustrating and feel awful...

OP posts:
nizo1245 · 26/03/2023 18:29

@CDiamond sorry to hear your day 5 results.

We never actually got to day 5 on our first round. We had 7 eggs collected but only 3 fertilised and by day 3 they weren't sure any would make it to day 5, so we transferred the best quality one back in that day.
By day 5 none had developed any further.

It's such a rollercoaster, but I've seen lots of success stories from 'poor quality' embryos, so there's definitely still hope!

CDiamond · 26/03/2023 18:30

@Loulou2202 @nizo1245 @LF82 - also is it normal to have cramps on day of transfer? I currently have mild cramps.. like period pains. Transfer was this morning at 10:30am and I have been cramping since about 5:30pm.

OP posts:
CDiamond · 26/03/2023 18:33

@nizo1245 - aww thats so painful isnt it!! the whole thing feels so awful.

Will they tell me they wont freeze it because its poor? Or do I have the right to insist they do? Its an NHS funded round and frozen transfers from this round will be covered too in future. Its not about the funding though; its because, as you say, they may be deemed poor quality but maybe they still will be successful? What is the protocol here? Are there grades that should be discarded, or is it personal choice/clinic preference?
