Anyone here about to start a cycle in March?

I am about to start my first IVF cycle tomorrow; short protocol.

@CDiamond

Haven't had my EC yet, think it will be Wednesday. I'm glad yours went smooth, hoping mine does too feel nervous about it!

nizo1245 · 26/03/2023 19:09

@CDiamond I think if they tell you they can't freeze them that's it really. I never really asked but they basically said that poor quality embryos that were below freezing quality wouldn't survive the freezing/thawing. Also if they haven't developed normally then they either wouldn't result in a pregnancy or could result in miscarriage. There's a big change they need to go through from day 3 to day 5.

I'm a bit of a control freak in general life so the hardest part with this whole thing is not knowing what will happen next, and not being able to do anything about it anyway.

I think a few cramps are a bit normal, but probably nothing too painful.

LF82 · 26/03/2023 20:19

@CDiamond i haven’t had a transfer yet so not sure what you should expect to be feeling like cramp wise but am guessing it’s normal. Congrats on getting the transfer done, I know you aren’t happy with potentially not having any to freeze this round but remember it only takes one! Try & relax as much as you can and take it one day at a time

i had my first injection of this round tonight & first scan is on Wednesday!

CDiamond · 26/03/2023 22:21

@LF82 good luck!!! fingers crossed for you xx

@CDiamond thank you!

nizo1245 · 27/03/2023 11:00

@CDiamond how was your scan?

I'm not ready to trigger yet, follicles aren't growing as fast as last time, they're only 12-13mm at the moment so a few more days of stims to go 🤦‍♀️

They also couldn't get blood out of me this morning for a while. It's always a bit tricky but none of my veins wanted to show up this morning.

nizo1245 · 27/03/2023 11:26

Whoops, sorry meant to tag @Nic64 in the below message, not @CDiamond

Sorry, this process is sending me a bit mad 😂

Nic64 · 27/03/2023 11:44

@nizo1245 pulling the trigger tonight! I've got 5-6 follicles on the left and only 1 on the right. Was a bit deflated with the numbers but staying positive. Egg collection Wednesday morning! Keeping our fingers crossed that everything goes ok!

nizo1245 · 27/03/2023 12:39

@Nic64 awesome, happy trigger day!
I have about 6 on the left and 2 on the right, so quite similar.

I was a bit worried about numbers last time as I had lower numbers, but my clinic assured me they're looking for quality over quantity. Higher numbers can have massive drop off rates at each stage.

Not gonna lie I'm jealous that I'm not triggering tonight. If I feel this bloated with 12mm follicles I hate to think how it will be in a few days time 😂

Nic64 · 27/03/2023 14:27

@nizo1245 ah I feel you with the bloating! Hoping for quality over quantity.

Keep us posted!

nizo1245 · 29/03/2023 10:15

@Nic64 good luck with your EC today!

Had another scan this morning and a few follicles have grown loads the last couple of days so we're triggering tonight for EC on Friday.

LF82 · 29/03/2023 11:07

@Nic64 good luck today!

@nizo1245 hope you enjoy your injection free day after the trigger & good luck for Friday!

Nic64 · 29/03/2023 13:01

@LF82 @nizo1245 Thankyou, it wasn't as bad as I thought. They got 3 eggs which is less than we thought but keeping our fingers crossed. They said something about my oestrogen levels being a bit low I think so that may be why some follicles didn't have eggs but I was a bit hazy afterwards 😂 keeping everything crossed.

nizo1245 · 29/03/2023 13:11

@Nic64 fingers crossed for your 3 eggs.
I don't want to sound like a cliche bur it only takes 1.

Were they monitoring your estrogen in the lead up to egg collection?

Nic64 · 29/03/2023 13:14

@nizo1245 I know we're trying to stay positive! No they weren't monitoring anything, came as a bit of a surprise when they said.

LF82 · 29/03/2023 13:25

@Nic64 got my fingers crossed for the call from the embryologist tomorrow for you! Make sure you get lots of relaxing done today

Nic64 · 30/03/2023 11:50

We've had our call this morning and it wasn't good news. All 3 eggs haven't fertilised. We had to have icsi due to low morphology and the embryologist said that one egg wouldn't allow fertilisation and the other 2 looked dark and granular in the middle and haven't fertilised.

We've had a big cry this morning and just feel really disheartened and confused as to why this has happened.

nizo1245 · 30/03/2023 12:02

@Nic64 so sorry to hear that.
Be kind to yourself and when you're feeling up to it I'd definitely push for a review of your case to see if they can figure out what went wrong.

nizo1245 · 01/04/2023 09:22

How is everyone getting on?

Had my EC yesterday and 8 eggs collected which is one more than last time.
Just had a call from the embryologist to say that 6 have fertilised so feeling hopeful at the moment 🤞

CDiamond · 01/04/2023 09:36

@nizo1245 wow that is great news fingers crossed for you.

@nizo1245 thats fab news!

CDiamond · 01/04/2023 10:05

@Nic64 gosh so sorry to hear that. I really hope they can find out what is happeneing in a review so you can try and mitgate next time.

I had 5 of 6 eggs fertilise but only 1 make it to day 5 (3to4BB); the rest were not even good enough quality to freeze. I asked what had happened after such good fertilisation rate and they said they couldnt tell especially as it was my first round (that they needed more rounds and data to try and have a guess). This stuff is so tough isnt it. I am going to be shattered if its negative this time as we have nothin frozen to go to despite 6 eggs collected.

Is it too early to test? My fresh transfer was last Sunday morning (so 6 days ago). I had some mild cramping 2 days later and today some severe cramping like period pains for a couple of hours now. I have been asked not to test till next Friday but all the cramping is making me anxious and wonder if doing an early first response test now would be a bad idea. Any thoughts from anyone?

OP posts:
nizo1245 · 01/04/2023 12:07

@CDiamond was it a day 5 transfer you had?

A test might work at this point. You're braver than me, the thought of a negative test is enough to make me wait!

My clinic book a blood test for 2 weeks after the egg collection so they must be confident that there will be enough HCG to tell by then.

Cramps can be a good thing though! Lots of people are convinced their period is coming on and it turns out to be pregnancy so it could be good news!

LF82 · 01/04/2023 13:26

@CDiamond I know it’s really, really hard but might be best to wait until they said to test? Sending you lots of luck x
