IVF February 2023

1000 replies

HJen22 · 11/01/2023 14:06

Haven't seen a thread for February cycles so if anyone is waiting to start in the next few weeks and fancies some cycle buddies ❤️

Little about me, 34yo TCC #1. Low AFC/AMH. After two disastrous NHS cycles (NE Scotland) which resulted in no transfer, we went private and are away to start our second mild IVF cycle at Create in Manchester x

Hi all, I’m due to start my first IVF cycle next month (March 2023). I understand you have to start taking meds from the first day of that cycle. That means technically I have one last cycle to try naturally right? Does anyone know if it’s ok to ttc on the cycle right before IVF? I’ll be having my nurse consent meeting and baseline the week I’m due to be on high fertility. Any thoughts?

No problem with it. We always kept trying naturally right up to when the cycle would start. Depending on how you're paying for it you run the risk of having just forked out a couple of grand for meds that you then can't use but you'd have paid that money either way so I didn't see that as a problem.

Boofimus · 20/02/2023 15:55

Egg collection this morning. Five eggs retrieved, which is as many as the last two cycles put together. Husband's swimmers had low motility but we have ICSI so the embryologist doesn't think it'll be an issue. Now we wait. I'm still super groggy even though it was this morning.

Thank you for your response. I’m REALLY nervous about IVF and really gutted we’re having to go down this route. I guess we have one more shot before IVF then!

VioletCookie · 20/02/2023 16:09

@Purplemichelle so pleased for you!!! Everything crossed 🤞🏼🤞🏼

Purplemichelle · 20/02/2023 16:33

@VioletCookie thank you! Second hurdle over. Xxx

LF82 · 20/02/2023 16:49

@CurlsAndDimples we did the same as you, my clinic said that I had to do a pregnancy test when I got my AF before I started any meds. Bit of a wierd ask I thought but I did it

@Boofimus 5 is a great number - well
done! Try & relax as much as you can now

That makes sense, thank you for that! I was thinking I would do a test anyway for my own piece of mind before I start. Not that I’ve EVER had a bfp mind you…

LF82 · 20/02/2023 17:01

@CurlsAndDimples me too- it was a very wierd test to take!

West8690 · 20/02/2023 17:06

@TTCRose those numbers look great to me! A lot can change in a few days too.

@Purplemichelle so pleased for you!!! Are you having both transferred?

@Sj2505 I have PCOS too and mine started out slow and then caught up quickly, I think they are more cautious with meds to avoid OHSS - I'd much rather them be cautious and avoid the risk! I will say I think meds wreak havoc with bowels, mine went the other way 🙈

Had my scan and they saw 20 follicles that were a good size, booked in for retrieval on Wednesday at 8:30am (so at least we won't be waiting around all morning to go in!)

AM08 · 20/02/2023 17:36

Just a quick update from my side, the clinic called and said the pregnancy was likely a chemical, they want me to go in for one more bloods on Wednesday to confirm but said with HCG where it is, that it’s unlikely it’s viable.

I had prepared this weekend with the tests not going darker but honestly thought we had an amazing chance with a 3AA embryo and me having a hysteroscopy and everything looking all good - really not sure what’s went wrong and not sure how to move forward.

Purplemichelle · 20/02/2023 17:49

@AM08 I’m so sorry to hear this. Can’t imagine how you are feeling right now. Does your clinic offer counselling at all? Xxx

Summerishere83 · 20/02/2023 20:43

Hello ladies

Hope everyone's doing well!!

I had an egg collection last Wednesday at Create and got 2eggs, both of which were grade 2, 6 cell embryos at the day 3 update. I was supposed to get a day 5 update today, no one called, has that happened to anyone?! I called reception at 2pm , they couldn't put me through to embryology but only gave me a message that 'there's nothing to freeze today but maybe tomorrow and that's normal '.

I'm really really frustrated with this treatment, I don't know whether I'm not just directing my disappointment and frustration towards the clinic because I'm trying to process things are not looking good as the embryos didn't make day 5 blastocysts.

I'm sure everyone here understands what it means to be trying not to count the hours while expecting a result and not receive it, regardless of whether it's good or bad news. So is that professional, even ethical on their part?! I'm just feeling angry and frustrated and I don't know whether I'm right to be upset with the clinic? Has anyone else been not informed on day 5?!?!

I don't know if I'm making sense, previous two cycles were cancelled and I think this waiting and hoping is just taking a huge toll on me. Perhaps I'm overreacting!

Anyways, thanks for reading, would appreciate hearing your experience xx

LF82 · 20/02/2023 21:05

Hi @Summerishere83 i don’t have lots of experience but I am with Create & I got an update the day after collection, then day 3, day 5 and finally day 6 from the embryologist. They were good at updating me but rang at different times in the day. If you haven’t heard anything by mid morning tomorrow, I think if I was you I would ring them & ask to speak to some as you haven’t had a proper update today. Got my fingers crossed for you that you get good news

Sj2505 · 20/02/2023 21:23

@West8690 wow, that's a great number. Are they concerned about OHSS with you? Will you be doing a fresh transfer? Or freeze all?
I'm very happy with the slow and steady progress so far, I don't mind waiting. The nurses were quite surprised at my dose initially because the dr has name on a medium-high dose, but that's when she said that PCOS follicles can be quite stubborn to get going.
So have you done trigger tonight?

Purplemichelle · 20/02/2023 21:47

@Summerishere83 did they book you in for a transfer today provisionally? Perhaps this clinic does day 6 transfers but that should have been communicated to you. Definitely call them tomorrow if you haven’t heard by midday. Xx

Summerishere83 · 20/02/2023 21:48

Thanks a lot for your reply @LF82 !
I am thinking of calling at 10am tomorrow as I won't be available to receive their call 11-13 tomorrow due to work. And also because I'm worried by the time they call they might have discarded them if they are not blastocysts yet as I read that clinics in the UK don't wait for day 7. And day 7 have a 5% chance according to articles.
I'm seriously considering asking about that counsellor, need to be able to handle all this a bit better..:)

Summerishere83 · 20/02/2023 21:53

Hi @Purplemichelle
Thanks for your reply! No transfer this month, it's the first of a 3 cycle package due to low AMH/age. So getting two eggs and both made it to day 3 was amazing.. previous two cycles they cancelled as they couldn't reach the right ovary.. long story..but these embryos are precious.. :)
Good luck with your treatment! X

Purplemichelle · 20/02/2023 22:03

@Summerishere83 ah ok that makes sense. Fingers crossed for tomorrow. Maybe they just wait an extra day when doing a freeze all. I have very low AMH and am older and got 2 eggs which made it to day 3 today. Transfer booked for Wednesday morning. Xxx

Summerishere83 · 20/02/2023 22:06

Hi @Purplemichelle
Wow that's exciting, best of luck!! :)

LF82 · 20/02/2023 22:07

@Summerishere83 i would definitely call them - don’t even wait until 10 if you have a meeting from 11! Lots of luck x

Purplemichelle · 20/02/2023 22:08

@Summerishere83 thank you! Xxx

Little update from me, it's not too cheerful so apologies!

Had an incredibly faint postitive yesterday (6DP5DT) on two tests, tested again today, one line fainter than yesterday, almost not there and one negative. Sadly I think we're already at game over. Blood test Thursday to confirm. I've also started feeling period symptoms this morning.

So that's 2 miscarriages in a row and now this 😔

Sending you all the positive vibes. It may be game over but it may not be. It's still really early to be expecting a positive result, so there could be all sorts of explanations. You may just be more hydrated today? Keeping everything crossed for you!
