FET/IVF - January 2023

Hey

I would love to get a group together of some of us who are undergoing IVF or FETs in Jan. I found it really helpful to have the support of those going through similar last time (Nov 2020).

My story: I am due to start my first FET in January of my one and only frozen embryo. The embryo is from a cycle in Nov 2020 when I was almost 36. I have low AMH and AFC and it was my first and only NHS round. I got 4 eggs all which miraculously fertilised, 1 made it to day 5 and was put back in with a fresh transfer. Sadly it did not stick. 1 egg was left until day 6 and it finally made it to blastocyst. It has been frozen. Rather than having a FET back then they advised me to do a banking package of 3 cycles due to my low AMH/AFC so in Jan 2021 we started our first private IVF cycle with the same clinic (Kings). Once again I was on max stims (gonal f and menopur) and it looked like we would get 4 eggs again but when I woke from EC they told me they only got 2. I had a bit of a breakdown. I was so upset going through all that including over £2k worth of drugs injected to only get two eggs. It felt even worse as I had let myself hope it would go well. Out of the 2 eggs only 1 fertilised normally. On day 3 the embryologist told me it was average quality and she wasn't sure it would be good enough to freeze on day 5 if it even made it that far. I couldn't handle the thought of going through all that mental anguish to not have anything to freeze so I made a last minute decision to go in for a day 3 fresh transfer. I had zero expectations but somehow that average embryo stuck. I was so stressed all pregnancy and worried about everything but amazingly I gave birth to my first baby in Sep 2021. He is now 14 months and I am turning 38 in 2 weeks.

Now it is time to get back on the IVF/FET train. I have been for my initial scan and blood tests. The scan was fine. Still not many follicles but not significantly worse. Waiting for a consult with the Dr next week for an update on my AMH (can't wait.... ) where she'll also decide on our protocol. I am leaning towards a medicated FET just so we can plan it a bit better. If that doesn't work then it is back to a 3 cycle package of IVF.

I hope I haven't bored anyone reading this to tears. Would be great if anyone else out there would like to be a cycle buddy? :-)

Laur0606 · 30/01/2023 19:33

Fabulous news, how special @Lucy5yearsttc. This group is insane for BFP’s, I hope they keep coming. Congratulations to everyone so far!

Egg collection today and they managed to get 5 which I’m super happy with as we went in with low expectations of 3-4. Praying they are fertilising well.

Egg collection was actually lovely, I have no real memory of it, I was given fentanyl and midazolam. The staff were also so kind and reassuring. Goodluck @DoxieGirl and @zarascan47

SusanTurner · 30/01/2023 19:48

Hi all - quick question.. so I had my collection a couple weeks ago. Now they have taken all the eggs, do I have to wait for my next period to have my frozen transfer? And if that’s the case surly I won’t have a period because they have taken my eggs for this next cycle. I have a meeting this week with my consultant but I wanted to see if anyone knew. Sorry I know this sounds like a basic question but I can’t wait for my transfer!

Lauralozzle · 30/01/2023 20:34

@Claireabella05 Thank you

@DoxieGirl It was ok. I got there about 8:30, was taken to the ward at about 9:00. Had to change into the gown and had a bit of an issue with the canular. Apparently I have bendy veins, they couldn’t get it to fit in my hand, and had to put it through my arm, where’d you have a blood test. That was the most painful part of it. I was very nervous but actually it was fine, I don’t remember much of it. Remember feeling meds going in, remember feeling dizzy/woozy - like being very drunk without the urge to puke! I remember they got the first egg quickly, I said that was quick, but I don’t remember much else. I remember waking up in the room, though it’s a bit hazy! apparently I said to my husband they had my legs in stirrups but not horse riding stirrups lol 😂

Had McDonald’s drive through on way home I was starving and then spent most of this afternoon asleep. I’m a bit crampy, I have some spotting. Cramps feel a bit like mild period cramps/wind, uncomfortable but period pain when it’s bad is much worse for me.

@zarascan47 I’m glad egg collection is definitely Wednesday! Trigger day! Yay! Tomorrow will be great - no injections!

@Laur0606 Im glad egg collection went well. Eek, hope we both great great news tomorrow!

Purrrrr · 30/01/2023 21:00

@JenM83beth When I had my egg collection I had a ‘breakthrough bleed’ about 10 days later. The clinic told me I could start taking medication for my FET on my next period, but we delayed a month due to a clash with Christmas!

Lucy5yearsttc · 30/01/2023 21:22

@SusanTurner try to keep positive and keep testing xx

JenM83beth · 30/01/2023 21:30

@Purrrrr thank you! That helps a great deal! Thank you!!

SusanTurner · 30/01/2023 21:39

It's so hard I am getting little sharp pains here and there but will this be from the progestan that's am taking

AnnaPr1992 · 30/01/2023 21:49

@SusanTurner I feel the same this evening
For a couple of hours all of sudden I get a very sharp pain on my left lower side is like thrombin pain comes and goes
I really don't know what is it and I don't know if it can be normal or no ...

SusanTurner · 30/01/2023 22:12

Do you ever get like little pains above your belly Button so not in your lower abdomen but over your belly button

Claireabella05 · 31/01/2023 08:00

@SusanTurner keep positive as its still very early days, although you are 7dp as your embryos are day 3, you are only the equivalent of 5dp if it was a day 5 blastocyst, (2 days begind) so it's still early to be getting a positive yet, not many do, I would test again in a few days :)
It's a perfect looking embryo though 👌

I also keep getting odd shooting pains, lower down and behind my belly too, so strange...
It almost feels like an elastic band being stretched lower down, sounds so werid haha I haven't had any more cramping since the 2/3dp, not sure if mine are good signs or just the progesterone.

SusanTurner · 31/01/2023 08:18

Thank you sweetie , I had two 9A transferred but they said they look the same so only gave me one photo

SusanTurner · 31/01/2023 08:42

Did you have a day 3 transfer or 5 hun? Am glad you think the grading is good as I don't know anything apart it's a 9A .

Hope it all goes well for you but the two weeks wait is a killer especially if you tested early like me xx

countrypunk · 31/01/2023 09:13

@SusanTurner It is really really hard. We all understand and we're all right here with you ♥️

Laur0606 · 31/01/2023 09:55

Morning all, embryologist has rung and out of the 5 mature eggs, 3 have fertilised. Clinic still want to wait to do a 5 day transfer on Saturday but feeling super nervous that they won’t survive until then. Do you think I should push for a day 3 transfer instead?
