FET/IVF - January 2023

Hey

I would love to get a group together of some of us who are undergoing IVF or FETs in Jan. I found it really helpful to have the support of those going through similar last time (Nov 2020).

My story: I am due to start my first FET in January of my one and only frozen embryo. The embryo is from a cycle in Nov 2020 when I was almost 36. I have low AMH and AFC and it was my first and only NHS round. I got 4 eggs all which miraculously fertilised, 1 made it to day 5 and was put back in with a fresh transfer. Sadly it did not stick. 1 egg was left until day 6 and it finally made it to blastocyst. It has been frozen. Rather than having a FET back then they advised me to do a banking package of 3 cycles due to my low AMH/AFC so in Jan 2021 we started our first private IVF cycle with the same clinic (Kings). Once again I was on max stims (gonal f and menopur) and it looked like we would get 4 eggs again but when I woke from EC they told me they only got 2. I had a bit of a breakdown. I was so upset going through all that including over £2k worth of drugs injected to only get two eggs. It felt even worse as I had let myself hope it would go well. Out of the 2 eggs only 1 fertilised normally. On day 3 the embryologist told me it was average quality and she wasn't sure it would be good enough to freeze on day 5 if it even made it that far. I couldn't handle the thought of going through all that mental anguish to not have anything to freeze so I made a last minute decision to go in for a day 3 fresh transfer. I had zero expectations but somehow that average embryo stuck. I was so stressed all pregnancy and worried about everything but amazingly I gave birth to my first baby in Sep 2021. He is now 14 months and I am turning 38 in 2 weeks.

Now it is time to get back on the IVF/FET train. I have been for my initial scan and blood tests. The scan was fine. Still not many follicles but not significantly worse. Waiting for a consult with the Dr next week for an update on my AMH (can't wait.... ) where she'll also decide on our protocol. I am leaning towards a medicated FET just so we can plan it a bit better. If that doesn't work then it is back to a 3 cycle package of IVF.

I hope I haven't bored anyone reading this to tears. Would be great if anyone else out there would like to be a cycle buddy? :-)

I started mine this morning and honestly I feel so stupid cause I just put them in and didn't realise how messy they were. Pads are a must. Stupid me

Has anyone here used them and got a postive result . I have googled so much about things to do before transfer and I jave one day left. Only advice is pinapples and drinking hot soups

Any other advice cause I know it's down to your body but am trying everything.

It's strange cause sometimes you think these things don't help but after I don't want to feel like I didn't do enough or should have tried things 🙃

Ivf is really a hard road and you drive tour own self crazy 🤪

I take my hat off to ever single lady out there that's going through this. Trying to keep everything together and doing your job as a mum if you alreahave kids is bloody hard .

My kids have no idea of what is happening . Injected in the room everyday as fast as I could and disclosed of everything. Crazy to think they have no clue am constantly keeping busy or I would just be going mad.

Sorry for the long mail but hope you all give your self some credit as its a hard journey and your over thinking all the time as well

Am here if anyone need a chat OK love you all and remember our bodies are amazing and we can do this don't give up cause I nearly did . I was so disappointed in my body not doing what it was meant to do . One day I woke up and looked in the mirror and said to my self I can do this my body and mind can do this. The day I started to think like that everything started going well and I used to come out of the clinic dancing around like an idiot .

Even of this does not work am happy that I did this and am proud and would not give up and il be back again. ❤️

@SusanTurner amazing did you have your previous children from IVF? Yes frozen transfer is when they freeze the eggs. I heard pomegrante juice helps thicken the uterus lining for implantation and Brazilian nuts before transfer are really good. Keeping your feet warm also. It sure is a hard journey I mean this is my first one so hoping it works I'm doing mine in the UK. Good luck for Monday x

SusanTurner · 21/01/2023 16:33

My youngest daughter is 10 but when I was with her dad it was not a good relationship and it beat me black and blue and kicked me in my private area and since then I just can't get pregnant naturally. I have 3 children with him 10 14 and 17 years old girls. Am in wonderful relationship with my husband now and he is so good to the girls too xx

DoxieGirl · 21/01/2023 18:02

A fresh transfer providing all goes well ☺️
My last round (NHS - this time is private) I had the nasal spray and injections and felt much more bloated/hormonal before egg retrieval but this time I don't feel any different so I am worried I won't have any luck 🫣

Frosty91 · 21/01/2023 18:22

@DoxieGirl I had no symptoms no cramps no bloating with all the injections. And had 18 eggs and 5 good grades embryos for the freezer. Don't look into the symptoms too much. Have a healthy diet and drink plenty of water x hope all goes well for you good luck x

DoxieGirl · 21/01/2023 18:34

Thank you xx

Im keeping everything crossed for you and sending sticky vibes your way xx

Purrrrr · 22/01/2023 09:54

@Hopefulfirstround Congratulations!

I’m 5dp5dt today. I had been feeling quite positive but I’ve had a bit of a meltdown this morning and I just can’t imagine this working for us. I’m trying to hold out until OTD to test, but I don’t know how I’m going to make it through this week 😂

JenM83beth · 22/01/2023 09:58

Hello all, I’ve been a bit absent from the group, as I had egg retrieval on Friday. But just wanted to update every one - as this group is a great support. So I started my medicated ivf cycle on Jan 5th. Was on gonal everyday and then had to take a trigger injection on Wednesday (36 hrs before retrieval. Plus had to take fyremadel everyday when the eggs started growing. On Friday they retrieved 20 eggs. Yesterday they called me and said that of the 20, 14 had fertilised. Retrieving so many eggs is a good thing but also comes with its risks. Because so many eggs were retrieved they said I maybe at risk of OHSS. They said it’s unlikely that I will develop OHSS but to be on the safe side I will have my egg transfer in February. They said they would call me on Wednesday and Thursday and let me know how the embryos are doing. But so far it’s been okay. With medication I felt very irritable and stressed but now I have a bit of a breather until Feb - so a quick update.

Lauralozzle · 22/01/2023 11:37

@Hopefulfirstround I see it! Fingers crossed for you!!

@JenM83beth 14 eggs fertilised is a great number! Will you be doing a FET?

JenM83beth · 22/01/2023 12:08

@Lauralozzle yep I’m doing FET on Feb. It’s been a tiring process but soooooo worth it!!

laurapop · 22/01/2023 13:24

@JenM83beth this is exactly what happened to me on my first round in 2020. I was really disheartened that I couldn't have an embryo transferred and had to wait 1 or 2 months. But it was the best thing in the end - it gave me time to rest and the frozen transfer worked and gave me my daughter 🥰. Everything happens for a reason

JenM83beth · 22/01/2023 14:02

@laurapop exactly! You are so right! I’m going to use this time to just prepare my body even more for the transfer etc! Thank you

countrypunk · 22/01/2023 19:39

Hello everyone, I had my FET today. Now the waiting game begins...

@JenM83beth 14 fertilised eggs is fantastic! Having to wait could be a good thing. I had a fresh transfer in November which failed and I was still suffering the effects of all the hormones and the egg retrieval. I've done a natural cycle FET this time and I just feel so much better than I did then - my body's had time to recover. Totally understand the desire to just get on with it but this experience has been far more positive for me. Best of luck to you for February ♥️

@Purrrrr If you have any good TWW distraction techniques, let me know..!

Frosty91 · 22/01/2023 19:52

@countrypunk omg how was it. Hope it all goes well for you. Mine is Tuesday. Did they give you a picture to take home with you x did everyone get a picture of the embryo when they did the transfer x

Frosty91 · 22/01/2023 19:53

@countrypunk take it easy have you taken time of work. Or will you be continuing. So many transfers this week fingers crossed for everyone x

countrypunk · 22/01/2023 20:09

@Frosty91 It was fine! Emotional, I cried on the nurse. But it takes minutes and it's really just like having a smear, only less uncomfortable! Yes, we got a pic 🥹
Honestly you'll be fine and the nurses/doctor will be lovely and will look after you if you're emotional. I'm not taking any time off work but I'm lucky because I work from home so can take it a bit easy if I need to. I've told my boss and he's very supportive which helps!

I'll be thinking of you on Tuesday. Let us know how it goes! Xx

Lauralozzle · 22/01/2023 22:00

@countrypunk Yay! PUPO. Fingers and toes crossed for you! When is your official test date?

countrypunk · 22/01/2023 22:12

@Lauralozzle Yay for PUPO! OTD is 2 Feb. My bday is 3 Feb. As I said on another thread this year's bday is either going to be GREAT or SHIT. At least if it's neg I can get pissed Grin

Piapea · 22/01/2023 22:40

@countrypunk congrats on being PUPO, hopefully a lovely little birthday present for you this year x

Fourfrosties · 23/01/2023 06:05

Glad the transfer went well @countrypunk and hope the wait isn't too horrendous.

Lots of transfers this week! Should find out today exactly when on Tuesday I'll be having mine. Always something to wait for, sigh.
